Nova Notes 7/2016
Heartland News Letter-July 2016
Heartland Novas, This club was Est. in 1994 for the preservation, history, hot rodding,
for enthusiast and owners. This club is for fellowship, car cruises, picnics, shows, and
gathering.
Hello from the Heartland!!! Wow! What can we say, talk about a Nova Reunion. If you are a Chevy Nova guy or gal you
know what was at the show and if not here’s a little break down: over a 3 day span we had 112 registered novas with
98 on Saturday. There were (6) 66-67 post cars, a 66 with a 153 4 cycl. (only 320 were made and this is the only one
found so far), we had a 72 sky roof citrus green (rare), (3) Yenkos, and (2) Spirit of Americas (one with the tent option),
(3) straight axel gassers, and (5) 69’s Wow! All on the same show lot, What a Nova show!!!!
There are so many people to thank for making our show a success that I can not mention everyone. As many of you know there is
so much that goes into a car show. I know a lot of you are a long distance and may feel that you are not able to contribute as
much, but donations and financial contributions also make the show a success. We as a club have done a great job getting really
cool donations for our raffles and I must say that at one of our raffle nights no person goes away with a prize that is not something
that they can not use. I think it is also important to thank our vendors that were at our show, including a big shout out to Joe
Grom for Donating (5) $100 gift certificates to Chevy II only. Thank you so much!
This year our show cost over $7000. to host. This is why our sponsors are so important! I think we all need to give our sponsors a
round of applause for helping cover some of the cost. Here are our Sponsors; Dale Gilmour with Best Distributing, Schoenthalers’
with Schoenthaler Restoration, Mike and Kayla Taylor with Engler Construction, Dave Belk with QC Networks, Tom Clary with SYC,
Dennis and Donna Albaugh with the Albaugh Collection.
It is also important for those who go out and get items for our goodie bags. There are so many companies out there that send us
samples, pens, pads of paper, and cool little trinkets. So if you have a connection with reaching out to companies to get those paper fillers, stickers and junk it really makes a cool goodie bag. For some reason everyone loves a goodie bag, even the ladies that
come to the show with the guys. Thank you to everyone who goes out and recruits the items for making them. I can’t think of a
time that we don’t take opportunity to get together, gives the ladies time to bond over lady things and catching up on the months
we missed each other and it gives the guys a chance to talk shop with out us women worrying about what the heck they are really
doing in the garage...sleeping? But this year a great group of people got together and stuffed goodie bags and then had dinner
together A Big thank you to the Loutschs’ for not only planning it but providing it.
Day of the show, these people really put their heart into making sure all the T’s are crossed and the I’s are dotted. Taking the time
from sun up to sun down, these people take ownership and work together it makes it a whole lot easier. The gals (and a few of
the guys we will let in...Alvy and Clayton you know who you are) at registration, you are all a great group to work with! But Registration can’t be done without the guys helping with parking car and those who are helping with trailer parking. We also need
some music what is a car show without music? This year one of our club members-Jeff Craft was not able to make the show but
he was so kind to let us use his equipment. He set up a playlist so we had those good car show tunes. I know many of you have
watched Jeff and I’s boys grow up and this year Ryan took on the responsibility of being our DJ and many of you got to let Logan
help park cars, wow what a great job they did! We had nothing but great comments.
We are always looking for people to help work the show, so if there is a job that you would like to help with please let us know.
One thing about the Heartland Nova Reunion is this is a great chance to build relationships with people who share the same interest. You make new friends, keep the old and we just become family.
This year our charity was Retrieving Freedom; Retrieving Freedom, Inc. (RFI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that trains service
dogs for placement into three main markets, Veterans, children with autism and adults and children with Diabetes. This was great
to see the therapy dogs come to the show, they were so sweet. This year we were able to donate $2255.00 to them. If you were
unable to attend the show please take the opportunity to look at their website www.retrievingfreedom.org.

What did we learn from the show? After all is said and done we decided to increase the show event to $25.00 for the
three day show (if they pre-register they will get a free shirt if they register the day of the show it is just $25.00 no
shirt), and the club will provide free pop and water with this increase and will help pay for our event shirts (since registration really breaks even on the show shirt). This might give the club a few extra dollars to do a free Friday night
meal for the show. We will put out a donation box for those who want to contribute to the “extra” freebies. This year
we had a club member step up and really make sure that we had the best parking lot, pizza night, hog roast and provided beverages for the whole weekend of the show. The club also decided that since we still have room to grow at
this lot we are going to plan to stay on this side of the casino. Dale is going to work with the event center to reserve
this lot again. We are on the lookout for more sponsors, if we can get enough sponsors then maybe we can do another Hog Roast since we have heard nothing but great things about it. We would love to have Chevy II Only and hopefully Scott Palmer will be back, have heard that Church Boys Racing would like to attend our show, so we hope to attract
more vendors. We will look into reaching out to J&W Nova as well.
