FFA Travels to National Convention in Louisville
A record attendance of over 65,000 was set at National Convention in November.
Eleven students traveled to Louisville, Kentucky. While some had the privilege to
compete on the National Level, others got to explore the huge career and college
show, attend packed sessions in Freedom Hall, a leadership workshop, and a
morning doing Community Service at the Americana Community Center for
refugees. We had some fun at the hypnotist show and some chapter bonding at
the bowling alley. A highlight of the trip was spending some time with the Indiana
FFA Northern Region Vice President—our very own Brett Roberts.
Abigail Atkins was a finalist in the National Ag Mechanics & Repair division.
Abby started her supervised Ag experience by assisting her dad in the shop
restoring antique tractors by preparing invoices and sweeping floors. This
experience expanded to diagnosis, sandblasting, painting, wiring, and customer
service. She won state and competed in a final interview round at Convention
making it to the big stage where she was honored in the Top 4 winning $500.
The Columbia City FFA won the State Vet Science Contest at State Convention last summer and has been anticipating
Nationals for months. The team of David Kyler, Dayna Kyler, Rachel Halbrook, and Bailee Glass took on the country in a
two day contest event. The first day of the contest consisted of a written exam, a math practicum, two written scenarios,
and 100 ID’s of breeds, vet equipment, and parasites. The second day included the team presentation with Manny, the
yellow lab, as well as four clinical practicums and four handling and restraint practicums. The team earned a National Gold
Rating and finished in the top 15 in the country.
