PLAN NOW August 27th and 28th! This parish
weekend will be a kickoff to the fall season when many
of the parish activities resume after the summer.
Highlighting the weekend will be Michael James
Mette. Michael is a Catholic musician and speaker
who travels the country with his wife Michelle and
their six young children. His music is a modern
reflection of his faith, blending alternative rock with
faith based lyrics. The concert on Sunday, August 28th
will be at 3:30pm and will be 90 minutes that includes
lights, video, music and testimonies by Michael and
Michelle. It is a free concert. Michael will also be
speaking at all the masses on the weekend.
The Parish Picnic will be Saturday, August 27th
following the 4:30pm Mass. You will have a chance to
meet Michael and his family. It will be a time to give
thanks for the many volunteers who worked the
festival and for all the community support for the
festival. And it will provide an opportunity to come
together for an evening of fun and relaxation. Set
aside this weekend now and watch for future updates.
PARISH COUNCIL: Two members of the council
will be completing their term of service at the
September meeting and two new members will begin
serving on council at the October meeting. The
commitment to council is for two years and a person
can serve for two terms. Parish Council meets on the
first Thursday of each month with a break in August.
If you are interested in being on Parish Council please
see any one of the current members whose names are
listed on the front of the bulletin or to contact Fr. John.

addition, if anyone is interested in helping with the religion classes as a teacher or aide to please contact the parish

YOUTH SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist
and Confirmation take place during the regular Grade Level Faith Formation (GLFF) classes. Youth who are in
9th grade or older are eligible to become candidates for Confirmation. Children entering the 2nd grade are eligible

programs. Note classes begin September 11th at 9:30am in the parish hall.
CONFIRMATION: Any baptized adult Catholics who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation and are

“I AM Going to Join this Year!”
Being in the Music Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace is one way of being actively involved in our parish
community. It is also very rewarding and fun. Our OLQP Choir members make life-long friends, sing joyfully
the word of God and know that they are giving back to God and our community.
Our Junior Choir members also make new friends, and learn more about being Catholic through the singing of
psalms, hymns and songs. Jr. Choir members also gain self-confidence by singing in front of each other and the
community. Parents, please work this valuable experience into your family schedule for your child.
The OLQP Choir gathers each Monday from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the church beginning September 12th, 2016.
Anyone who is in high school or older is welcome to join us each Monday for rehearsal. The OLQP Choir will
lead each weekend at one of our liturgies. Reading music is not a prerequisite. We are also in the need of
instrumentalists to play with the OLQP Choir. (keyboard, guitar, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion) Now
is the time to get involved in this rewarding choir.
The Junior and Teen Choir rehearsals are most Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. beginning September 10th,
2016. Those who are in the second through high school are invited to join. The Junior and Teen Choir will lead
liturgy twice a month throughout the school year. We are also in the need of instrumentalists to play each mass
with the Jr. Choir. (keyboard, guitar, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion) Parents have commented that
they love that OLQP gives their child something extra to do, and that they are proud to see their child actively
participate at Mass. Kids love coming each week!
The Lazarus Choir at Our Lady Queen of Peace is a rewarding choir that ministers to families in their time of need.
Paulette says, “By singing in the Lazarus Choir, it keeps me in touch with my Dad.” Pat says, “I feel it is an
honor to give our parishioners a good send-off.” If you are available to attend morning funeral liturgies, you are
invited to join our Lazarus Choir.
The Cantors are the leaders of song at liturgies. If you have a strong, pleasant voice and feel that you can lead in
singing, consider being a cantor at OLQP.

Michael James Mette- lyrics
from his song “Drown us in
your Love”- In You I fall apart,
pieces of a broken heart,
fashioned into one, the body
and the son. Jesus, You are
holy. Wash us with Your blood. Oceans of Your
mercy. Drown us in Your love. Precious in your
eyes. Though my hands are dirty. Grace has made
me clean. Let Your kingdom come. Let Your
kingdom come. What a great way to focus on the
Year of Mercy - come hear him live on August 28.
