Join WIBW Farm Director Kelly Lenz and his wife Mary February 18-24 for an exciting
six-day trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. You’ll enjoy great fishing and sightseeing, first-class
accommodations, fabulous wildlife, and the beauty of the Rio Indio Maiz Biological Reserve.
The Rio Indio Ecolodge resides between the San Juan and Indio rivers, with the Caribbean
Sea just to the east.
February 18, 2014 - We depart Kansas City on American Airlines to San Jose,
Costa Rica. Dinner is usually provided.
We’ll be met at the airport and taken to the Windham Herradura Hotel in San Jose
for the evening.
February 19, 2014 - After an early buffet breakfast at the hotel, we depart at 7 am and
transported by bus through the city of San Jose and over the rain forest mountains to Puerto
Viejo. This 2-hour bus ride will take us through magnificent scenery and vegetation, as well
as coffee, pineapple, banana and coconut plantations.
At Puerto Viejo we board our boat for a journey down the Sarapiqui River to the San Juan
River where we enter Nicaragua and clear customs. On our boat ride you’ll see a variety of
wildlife, including crocodiles basking in the sun. This day is truly an adventure in itself!
On arriving at the Rio Indio Lodge we check into our rooms and are served lunch. If time
allows, anglers may get in 2-3 hours of fishing, or just enjoy the scenery and relax.
February 20-21, 2014 - Anglers will be divided into groups with some fishing the
Caribbean for Tarpon, and the rest fishing for Snook, Mojarra, and Rainbow Bass in jungle
streams and lakes. Non-anglers will be taken on various nature tours with a naturalist.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the Lodge.
February 22, 2014 - Fish in the morning followed by a short nature tour. After lunch, we
fly back to San Jose on a private charter flight.
February 23, 2014 - We depart the hotel 7:30-8:00 am - sightseeing by bus with stops
in San Jose, the Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Park. This makes a full day. Dr. Alfredo
Lopez, Owner of Rio Indio Ecolodge, has agreed to be our guide.
