OVERVIEW
Since its inception in 1990, KBU International College has an
excellent track record in producing employable graduates and
entrepreneurs. In recognition of our excellence in providing tertiary
education, the Ministry of Higher Education elevated KBU to FIRST
CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.
First City UC will continue KBU’s proud tradition of providing the
best learning experience for its students. The courses offered will
continue to be industry relevant. These will be the springboard for
our graduates to be successful in their chosen careers.
Campus expansion
The new phase of the Campus, which is next to the current premises,
comprises a new academic block and en-suite air-conditioned
student accommodation. A new IT Centre, library, food court and
indoor sports facilities are some of the exciting facilities of this new
phase.
This new phase is targeted to be completed by November 2016.

FACULTY OF DESIGN &
BUILT ENVIRONMENT
The Faculty of Design & Built Environment aims to equip future designers with the
competencies and skills needed to excel in the industry. The faculty conducts courses in
Graphic Design, Interior Architecture & Design and Furniture & Product Design.

This one-year programme provides a solid foundation in practical studio work, 2D & 3D
designs and research. It develops student’s skills in visual analysis, fundamental drawing,
colour studies, research and critical writing.
On completion of the programme, students will be able to:
• Understand drawing as a fundamental process for visual research and the development of
visual communication.
• Demonstrate an ability to conceive and develop ideas in a wide range of media.
• Demonstrate a professionally oriented attitude to studio practice and ability to work as a
team member.
Duration: 1 year (3 semesters)

This programme emphasises on creativity, exploration and
experimentation of mind, media and materials. Students will also
specialise in computer graphics, web-based applications, animation &
other forms of interactive design.
Graduates of Diploma in Interactive Design will be able to:
• Develop transferable and analytical skills
• Develop interpersonal and presentation skills
Duration: 2 years (6 semesters)

evolving needs of the design profession in the 21st century. The course is designed to
provide students with a professional and creative approach to all aspects of furniture and
product design.

• Exhibit creativity and show a personal aesthetic sensitivity through design
• Apply design techniques, independent study and explore within the context of
ambiguity
• Demonstrate the ability for critical engagement and formulate independent judgements
