IT’S IN THE CARDS
COLLECTABLE CARD GAMING
Booster packs of the new set for Magic: The
Gathering, Zendikar contain over 90 powerful
vintage Magic cards inserted on a random basis. These are original cards, not reprints.
Despite a heavy print run the product is currently
sold out at the manufacturer level. WotC expects to have “more product
available soon.”
The inclusion of rare, powerful cards from past Magic sets was, according to
WotC, in keeping with the theme of the Zendikar set, “deadly perils and
priceless treasures,” with the emphasis on the “priceless treasures.”

Thunderstone is a new fantasy deck-building card game from the
Alderac Entertainment Group. Designed by Michael Elliott, the
Thunderstone game includes more than 500 cards featuring stunning
fantasy art by Jason Engle. Thunderstone,
which can accommodate 2-5 players ages
12 and up, takes about 60 minutes to play.
Using a card drafting and hand management mechanic, players fight the evils of
the dungeon in order to prove their worth,
gain new weaponry, and build up their
characters into new and mighty hero
classes. Winners claim the best cards and
survive to take the Thunderstone.

On November 23rd Mayfair Games is releasing World Without End, a board game set in
Knightsbridge England in the early and middle
14th Century. Based on Ken Follett’s bestselling novel the game is for 2-4 players ages
12 and up. Players in the game have to navigate the turbulent events caused by the appearance of the Black Death, which disrupts the
stable late medieval world of wool dealers, farmers, builders, and
merchants.
Mayfair Games is also set to release
Atlantis, a casual game for 2-4 players ages 10 and up, on November
19th. Players in the innovative game
control a faction in Atlantis, the richest and most powerful city in the
ancient world. As the bridge linking
Atlantis to the mainland starts to
crumble, players must move their
people along the great bridge before
it collapses. Players can pick up
artifacts as they evacuate, but they
must be careful not to create gaps in
the bridge.
