My Desaru Trip on 9 Dec to 10 Dec 2006
My Journey To Desaru on 9 Dec 2006 and 10 Dec 2006
It was on Saturday early in the morning at about 5am that I woke up and getting
to depart to Desaru, our destination at about 5.30am. I guess you must be
wondering why the heck I am waking up so early. Its because my dad are
meeting his golf mates at Compass Point, Sengkang.
While we are driving on the way to Causeway Point, we heard the radio stating
there is a huge jam there. My dad grumbled on why there is huge jam early in the
morning even though after meeting at Compass Point, we went straight without
any delay, for goodness sake; we plan to eat our breakfast at Malaysia to beat
the jam. Therefore we divert our way and traveled to 2nd Link at Tuas. It is not
only further distance traveled to Desaru and it’s also expensive. We have to pay
quite a number of toll charges.
After cruising past the 2nd Link, we went to the next stopover for toilet break and
have quick bite at the famous and delicious Ramly burger. I did not manage to
take a photo of the stall, as I was still quite sleepy…haha=D.
Brief History of Ramly Burger
Ramly Burger does not need introduction for Malaysians, and the popularity of the Ramly brand itself eclipses its very
own creator, Ramly Mokni. Ramly is the guy who has almost single-handedly changed the way how burgers are
commercialized via the 'gerai' concept.
In 1970s, imported meat became very popular in Malaysia and Ramly saw the opportunity to have burger meat locally
produced at high volume which could match the standard of the imported meat while maintaining its halal standard. So,
he opened up a burger processing stalls which later became hot in the town. He named the product after his very own
name, Ramly Burger.
Ramly quickly moved to expand the business further by incorporating a company as well as using machines to speed
up processing and increase daily productions. They also embarked on extensive research to diversify their products and
later introduced nuggets, fritters, fingers and others.
Today, Ramly Burger Processing continues to produce millions of burgers with its revenue raking up year after year,
and with many accolades to its core. The company's annual revenue is now exceeding RM100 millions per year. The
Ramly Burger brand is currently not only popular in Malaysia but also selling like hot cake in Singapore.
For those who have not tasted the Ramly Burger, you can stop reading this now and walk to the nearest Ramly Burger
stall to have a bite. Or if you want extra adventure, you can try the following recipe to make your own Ramly Burger:1. Heat up some margarine or butter (1/2 table spoon) on a hot plate.
2. Fry some chopped onions to give you the irresistible aroma.
3. Fry the Ramly Burger meat until cooked.
4. Slice a bun into half, and use sliced cucumbers, shredded cabbage and a slice of cheese.
5. Add additional flavor of your own - you may use oyster sauce, Lea & Perrins sauce, Maggie seasoning, pepper and
mayonnaise.
6. Enjoy your DIY-ed Ramly Burger special

After eating our breakfast and another one hour traveling on the road, I happen
to see a unique figurine of Kota Tinggi when we stopped at the traffic light.
After seeing the picture, I guess you may agree with me that it is quite a unique
figurine. Soon after we passed it, one of my dad’s golf mates has to find the
nearest restroom to do his business. We passed a very old petrol station and
after seeing the picture, you will agree with me that you cannot find this type of
petrol station in Singapore.
As soon as my dad’s golf mates finished his business, we immediately went
straight to our destination. We not only come to Desaru for a game of golf, but
also attend our church camp. It has been a long time that I went for a church
camp due to our holiday vacation oversea clashed with our church camp.

Once you see the next picture, you will realize that we have reached our
destination. It is a nice hotel, but it is also an old hotel if you know what I meant.
In fact, I have actually taken some photos of the hotel lobby but they are not
good. Anyway this is the macro image of the hotel logo at the lobby and lobby
area.
While we are waiting to check in, we sit around the hotel café, which is just in
front of the lobby. I wanted to order some drinks there, while waiting for the hotel
room to be ready and able to unload our luggage inside the hotel room, so that
we can go straight for the church service, as we arrived kind of late. Just about to
order the drink, my parents said that they have the key and maybe later we order
the drink if you want to try their standard of coffee. Customer Service is good.

room at S$170 per day (Special Price).

After seeing the above pictures, will you come to Desaru for relaxation moments,
even though my scenery from our balcony may not be that good..hehe=P.
Once we have unloaded our bags, we decided to have our lunch at their
restaurant. Come, Come and I will show you how the restaurant looks like.
However, in my own opinion, don’t try their lunch buffet, as it is not really that
delicious but can try their breakfast buffet.

After our lunch buffet, we looked around the hotel resort and my mum suddenly
came towards us. She smiled and told us that at 2pm, we will take a bus to a
nearby shopping place. I was so excited and finally I can get some shopping, but
to my horror, it was not. I will tell you through pictures and you will understand
what I have meant. Anyway while waiting for the time to past, I looked at my
watch and realized that I have about an hour to go. Hence I have decided to
explore my hotel resort.
Are the photos well taken? If yes, you must say thanks to me and my
brother…hehe. Remember we are not trying to boast our photo taking skills=D.

Anyway after past the swimming pool section, we saw the Desaru beach. The
sea out there is really an empty sea. Everywhere is water. Your Left and your
Right you can only see is sea.
Did I bluff you? Its really empty!!!
Hardly can see the rock…Look how strong is the waves!!!

I guess you have seen quite a number of photos of the beach and its time to talk
about the shopping centre. It’s about 2pm in the hot and humid afternoon. I
guess the temperature is 40 degree Celsius.
At first I was disappointed when I see this bus approached the hotel, I was
thinking how the hotel management can let the guest traveled in this bus. Take a
look at it:
The good news is that it is not our bus. Here is our beautiful and comfy bus and I
have took some pictures to show you.

This is the place where we shop!!!
Here is the bus
where the driver
alight us
These are some of the images of the shopping centre. In my opinion, I feel that
this is for the locals to buy their necessity stuffs and not for tourists like us to
shop around.
One of the church friends who I feel it is a joker told the bus driver to come back
and pick us up after one and half hour. Here there is no place for youngster like
us to come and there is nothing for us to buy. “Oh dear, what am I going to do
here?” I sighed.

After all my sighing, I should just walk around and explore the area there.
Perhaps I can find something unusual. True enough, I hit the bull’s eye=D.
Inside the Restaurant
The restaurant is selling this exotic Malay delicacy, selling at RM$1 for 5 pieces
and we, Singaporeans called it as Fish Keropok. Do you have any idea what it is?
What is it called in Malay? You can buy the uncooked one that looks like a “dog
shit or big and fat hotdog” if you see this for the first time. But always remember
to eat on the spot and do not keep too long, as it will be not tasty anymore.
After walking the entire shopping place and my parents bought some necessity
stuffs, we still have to wait for the bus to come, and saw all the church friends in
the café drinking coffee and talking to one another. Therefore, we decided to join
in to wait for the bus to come.

Once we reached to our hotel, we unpack our groceries and went out to eat for
our dinner. We decided not to take the risk to eat at the hotel café, as the lunch
buffet is not delicious at all. Through our church friend’s recommendation, we
decided to go there to eat. Even though it is RM$50 per person, we get to eat
dinner buffet, barbequed chickens, mini sirloin steaks, prawns, oven-baked lamb
and fish, of course not forgetting their big and mouth-watering barbequed
lobsters.
To our surprise, they are celebrating their anniversary and the tourists’ birthday
that fall in the month of December. There was karaoke, games and even fresh
and delicious birthday cake. Once you took the first bite, you will go for the
second bite, but unfortunately, the crowd there was huge and hence there is no
remaining cake for me to eat.
After our dinner, we have to rush back to our hotel to attend the last church
service for this year church camp. Here are some of the highlights, which
included me in taking part of the games=P.

The entire church service that night ended at around 11pm. After that, we went to
our hotel room and that’s how our busy and hectic Saturday had ended. Overall,
we enjoyed ourselves.
On Sunday morning, we woke up at about 7am in the morning and dragged
ourselves to eat our complimentary breakfast, as we thought that our breakfast
will going to be yesterday lunch. However, to our amaze, the breakfast is good
and has different varieties of food for you to choose from. At the back of our mind,
we are thinking what about the dinner buffet that we have missed. Will it be better
than the lunch and same class as the breakfast buffet? Nevertheless, we enjoyed
our dinner very much. It is totally different dining experience.
After our breakfast and church debrief, we went to the next destination with our
church friends. Guess what’s destination? Perhaps you have guess right, it is our
lunch destination, JADE GARDEN SEAFOOD CORNER
My Dad’s
Car
The lunch was great especially the herbal chicken and lobster. You must be
wondering why my dad order lobster again. Truth is my dad heard wrongly
lobster as crayfish. What a joke? Guess how much it’s the lobster dish?
RM$110!!! To me, even though it is expensive, but it is truly worth to be the
restaurant or even Malaysia’s champion dish. The gravy is fantastic and the
lobster meat is fresh and soft. It will melt in your mouth, trust me!!!!
After our lunch, we head to Jusco at Johor Bahru for some shopping and we
thought that we can go another shopping centre to do more shopping, but we
have to stop, as one of our church friend left his passport in Desaru Hotel Resort
and my pastor have to rush back to Singapore to attend very important meeting.
As a Good Samaritan and follower of God, we should help one another and fetch
my pastor back to Singapore. And this will end My Desaru Trip.
