Tap Night at the HorseFly Brewery
Truth mixed with fiction
Taylor and Sutton arrived just after 6, expecting to be the first of the invited revelers. But they were wrong.
Chamberlain, Pierson, and Olmstead were already knee deep in brew donating a $1 per tap to our chapter. But a table of
4 seemed too small for 6 so the late arrivals slinked to another table to eat and drink all alone, until an invited local
attorney of impeccable reputation joined them. Conversation with the brewery owner set any concerns to bed since he
assured us is that even though he didn’t know about the tap night, he would make sure we got the promised donation,
which is good. So we had another pint. Which was also good.
As you may surmise, 6:30 brought an avalanche of singers storming thru the door, ordering pitchers of Scottish beer,
and tuning off-key in anticipation of singing the entire evening. Ah, what a dream. Rex jumped on one table blowing a
round harmonica several notes at the same time yelling “pick the one you like and let’s sing an Irish tune.” Tom took the
bait and began waving both arms frantically, probably to “Irish Wild Rose” or whatever he named it. Toasting and singing
continued until the establishment was empty, which meant no more donations. I’m sure we didn’t drive them away. It
might have been that it was 2:30 am and Dennis felt the need to go home before he was missed. Some of us lost track
about how much we probably collected that night, but one of the more formidable quaffers estimated we should expect
from $500 to $1000 just from our chorus. That may be slightly optimistic, but we’ll see.
In case you hear some rumors, be assured there is no proof that any waitress ever asked any of the chorus to either
shut up or leave. That is simply fantasy. Most of them really acted like they like us and thought our rendition of “Let Me
Call You Sweathog” was clever and musical. Well, maybe the big guy with all the tattoos didn’t like it when what’s his
name pinched his girl friend during the reprise, but at least he didn’t smack what’s his name with the growler as
threatened.
Oh, and there was the time when one of the guys claimed he lost his car keys, again, and told us a familiar story to
ease his consicience. But I don’t really think he lost them where he was looking for them, but one never knows what
happens when one loses his keys. And the $200 does seem kind of expensive.
And of course one of the guys thought it would be funny to sing tenor when we didn’t have a tenor, and really didn’t
need one since we were singing so loud it didn’t matter. But singing tenor did cause some unpleasant confusion as to his
sexuality which caused some confusion to the drunk at the bar who thought our tenor was cuter than the tenor wanted to
be. Which resulted in unintended consequences. Whatever.
It was strange that the phone started ringing incessantly about 11 pm looking for most of the guys who claimed they
weren’t there anyway. It was strange cuz they were there and the phone kept ringing. Then angry females started
streaming thru the door looking for the guys who were not there. Really confusing. Then, after convincing them that a
brew or two would make things right, the evening settled down to a normal raucous brewery Tuesday night. Any fights
were really just minor misunderstandings, and any blood was easily cleaned up ...by the late staff. Some of you missed all

Splinters from the Board
Some of you, well one at least, would really like
to know what went on at the board meeting
and would like to know before it is history in
case there was something that needs to be done
and won’t be done because he is not aware of
what he is supposed to do. Normally that
information is available in a document called
“minutes.” In this case the name has been
changed to “hours” or “days” or even “months.”
So, he who needs information is just out of luck
other than the rather tacky effort is made at
this column. So take it for what it is worth.
PR-VP Dennis O tried to explain
how difficult it is to order something
as common as ‘name tags’ from our
sometimes inefficient Barbershop
Store. He also reported that he is
still sifting through boxes of stuff left
by Glenn Simpson and really doesn’t
know what to do with them. Seemed
like an easy solution. Tom, our
Historian, was not present so the
board simply decided to dump them
on Tom and he could take care of it.
President Larry W was in
Denver for some tests and was
not present. Secretary Rex P
picked up the gavel and
moved us thru the meeting
with dispatch but no
brownies. Others missed for
other reasons. Dr. Bob stayed
in Grand Junction, Larry C
stayed home, Carol M stayed
home, and David S stayed
home. And Tim D stayed
somewhere. All had good
excuses, or at least an excuse.

some surgery repair, Larry C
and Carol M feared the

white-out, David stayed home
with Catherine, and Tim, well
Tim didn’t come.
Probably feeling guilty by not accomplishing anything, someone made a
motion to keep our Show tickets the same price as last year so Rex could get
on with ordering them. It was seconded and passed, I think. Rex thinks so
too so this year’s tickets will say $15 and probably will not say the early price
of $10 so people will be confused when they get some change unless they get
tickets from a member who doesn’t know about the $10 early price. They will
know if they read this. And understand it. I certainly don’t.
Mainly the evening sort of just wandered around some
show details, but without Tom present, wandering was
just wandering. Rex, of course, now having the gavel,
gave us one of his typical excellent and detailed
treasurer reports, complete with lots of data and a
unanimous vote to accept it as presented. I mean, who
could question it? Hah, not me.
Those who attended went home with an unsatisfied sweet tooth. We missed Sally’s brownies.

RMD BOTY, last year, Jeff Click has
returned to the office of Music and Performance VP for the RMD, and is planning another outstanding Rocky Mountain
Harmony College. It will be full of the
classes and coaching we have come to
expect with the intensive learning experience of Rocky Mountain Harmony College, and will have the additional appeal
of a high powered Saturday night show
with the International Quartet Prelim
qualifiers added to the performance
lineup. EVERYONE will want to attend
this show of champions!

As a gentle reminder, the RMD has
negotiated the best room rate possible for
a block of hotel sleeping rooms, and
when you use these rooms, our Association of Chapters benefits with low-cost or
no-cost space for chorus rehearsal ballrooms, classrooms, and meeting room
space, etc.
Please do not think of lodging outside
of the RMD room block. Doing so might
save you $5 - $10 per night, and then
costs the District hundred of dollars in
rental of meeting room space for our
events. That’s YOUR District dollars being wasted unnecessarily. Thanks for
lodging together as a District family

approaching. Really, we are going to be on stage at the Pavilion
on June 15 and are expected to sing some girly songs to an
