Combination band takes the stage to entertain
students and staff

On May 5, a high school music program
from West Humber Collegiate Institute in
Ontario, Canada, came to Ravenna to play
with Ravenna’s Steel and Jazz Bands. An
assembly took place during Raven Pride
Time in the auditorium. Many of Ravenna’s
high school band students were involved,
while West Humber’s group consisted of a
wider range of ages. Their group was largely
made up of steel band members, but they
also presented their guitar program,
drumline, and Motown Band as well.
The assembly began with a combined
effort of the steel bands playing both
countries’ anthems. The audience clapped
and cheered for the national anthem, but also
respected the performers as they played a
unique steel drum version of their own
Canadian anthem.
The assembly started off with a fun,
familiar tune, which really got everyone
involved and set the tone for the event: One
of West Humber’s members rapped along to
the cover of “See You Again” by Wiz
Khalifa.

into the music.
Drew Adametz and Joe Cullen have been
planning the trip since September 2015 and
finally finalized it in January of this year.
Ravenna’s band had the opportunity to go to
Toronto in 2001, and are finally going back
Moms deserve love, appreciation

Mother’s day has passed this year but it is
still a cherished day for mothers and wives.
It's a family's job on this day each year to
make mothers and wives feel appreciated
and loved. Hopefully you didn't forget your
wife or mother this year, but if you did,
don't make the same mistakes next mother's
day. When next year comes around, don't
forget your mother or wife on the their
special day... you may never live it down.
By forgetting the wife or mother in your
life, she may want revenge. Not only could
the women in your life never let you live it
down, but it could also make daily life
unbarable. After all, most mothers and
wives out there have a lot of control over
your life or do a lot for their families and
most of them are sneaker than you think.
The most important thing to do is to not
forget even if that means putting reminders
in your phone. Then next thing to do it is to
get her a gift or make a homemade one.
Store bought gifts are always nice, but
homemade gifts show that more thought and
emotions were put into the gift. These are
the types of things that all mothers and
wives appreciate and may even get you
more points.
Pinterest is filled with ideas of the classic
paperweight, or homemade breakfast.
However, up-and-coming websites, such as
Shutterfly offer deals for cards with
pictures, mugs, or even pillows showcasing
memories made with mom.
Saying “I love you” or just saying “Happy
Mother’s Day” is never a bad idea either.

the tradition. “Every time we come to
Ravenna, we are welcomed like family and
it’s just really awesome to be here,” said
Cullen at the assembly.

to their families.
A good idea to keep in mind is to record
dates throughout the year when your mom
does something nice for you, or gives you
advice. Record the dates and memories in a
secret place. Then, when Mother’s Day rolls
around again, design a calendar on
Shutterfly, or by downloading images and
templates from online, and include the
memories as special dates your mom can
reflect on as she uses the calendar. Just
proving that you care (and that you didn’t
run out to Wal-Mart the night before for a
card) can mean the world.
Next year, don't forget to remember your
mothers and wives on their important day
because it shows just how much you love
and appreciate the women in your life. Don't
forget that the women in your life do a lot
for you, so one day of the year treating her
to a gift or maybe buying her dinner isn't
such a bad deal.

International:
-Obama is the first president to visit Hiroshima since the atomic
bombing to apologize.
-ISIS kills at least 66 and wounds 87 in a car explosion in a
Baghdad Market.
-Romania is trying to give back property to Holocaust survivors
decades later.
National:
-Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for President with
John Kasich dropping out of the race on May 3, 2016.
-The Bison is the First U.S. National Mammal
-Debates over The Stonewall Inn to be a National Monument due
to the transgender rights arguments happening recently.
-Issues with the death of Prince arise. According to the Associated
Press, a Minnesota doctor saw Prince twice in the month before
his death - including the day before he died - and prescribed him
medication, according to a search warrant. Authorities returned to
Prince's estate outside Minneapolis on Tuesday.
Local:
-Medical marijuana is now legalized in vapor form in Ohio.
-Amnesty International is now banned at a high school in New
Albany, Ohio, due to 17-year old Ellie Henze putting up anti-war
protest posters around her school.
-Trump and Clinton are tied in the polls in Ohio and
Pennsylvania.
- On May 10th Stephen Curry was unanimously voted by the
N.B.A as the most valuable player. This is the first time in history
that there was a unanimous vote.
Summer
Suggestions

Projects, finals, graduation and many more
stressful things are coming up, but that only means
we’re a step closer to summer! Summer means
complete freedom to do whatever you like, to
explore new things, starting your careers or even to
just be a couch potato.
There are many fun things to do over the summer
with friends, and you don’t always need money to
do so. Approximately, 21 percent of students spend
their summer playing sports or staying at home, 17
percent of students go on vacation, 23 percent do
something other than playing sports, staying home
and going on vacation, while 18 percent do all of
above. While some students may spend their
summer working, there is still time to go out with
friends and have fun.
Summer gives students a break from all the stress
they carry on their backs for exams, projects and
homework. Summer is also a great way to make
easy cash if you need some by finding a fun
summer job at a waterpark, zoo or other fun
attractions you can enjoy while working.
Over the summer there are many events that are
going to be held such as festivals and concerts
downtown Kent. There are also fun places to visit
that cost money like Kalahari Resorts, Cedar Point,
Wild Water Kingdom and many more fun attraction
sites. Some fun free places to visit in the summer to
cool off or go for a walk could be the Kent River,
The Ledges, and Towner's Woods.
Places to visit over the summer that you may not
have been to are the Midway- Drive in theatre,
Emerald lake for a water ski show, museums and
many fun attraction parks.

Rapper "NF" is becoming popular
with recently released songs

NF is a Christian hip hop/rapper who has
recently become popular. NF was born as
Nate Feuerstein, in the small town of
Gladwin, Michigan. Through a rough
childhood, he developed a love for music
and found it an escape to his often abusive
environment.
His parents were divorced when he was
young; he was raised by his mother until she
died from a drug overdose when he was 18
years old and after that, he was raised by his
dad. All of his life experiences turned him
towards music.
NF has three albums so far. His first one is
called “NF,” his second one is called
“Mansion” and his third one is called
“Therapy Session.” Not too bad for
someone who began his career recording rap
segments on a karaoke machine.
NF started writing music when he twelve
years old. When he first started, everybody
told him that he wouldn’t make it, but now
he said those same people are “blowing up
his phone and calling him.” NF said that he
was terrible and it took him a while to get
better but he achieved his goal.
When he was a kid, he grew up on
Eminem because they both were going
through the same stuff. NF signed with
Capitol CMG and Sparrow Records in 2014,
before the release of the album NF. He said
that his album Mansion was “just a glimpse
of what it is like to be in his head.” NF’s
first album was released in 2010 the name
of the album was Moments.
He recently released a song called “Intro
2” and a song called “I Just Wanna Know.”
It is a fast paced song with unapologetic
lyrics such as: “Only time you ever call me
is when you feelin’ like don't nobody else
wanna listen-When’s the last time you saw
me-You probably don’t remember that
’cause that was back then you were
different-I don’t wanna hear the sorrys.”
NF usually writes about what motivates
him, and what all the people who doubt him
say.
He also takes memories and
experiences from his childhood to inspire
his song. But he also has a few love songs
about his past relationships to round out his
albums as well. For more information on
