In My Life

Fact or Fiction
In my midst of meeting people I have gotten a few shocks in
my life, one of which happened recently when I was given a
manuscript of a book someone was writing called “The War of
Equality,” which I enjoyed very much. It mixes science fiction
with psychology to create a perfect scenario in which to create
a great daydream.
The book starts with a young man named Syris who was an
abused and beaten gay boy when he was young. This background has given him the drive and strength to lead to his
rise in power in the world later in life. He becomes one of the
most powerful men on the planet, with trillions of dollars at his
disposal and the most advanced technology hidden away for
himself.
With his political mind he thinks about waging war upon the
world for Equal Human Rights. Personally that kind of scared
me about talking military action to spread equality, but to each
his own. So he bides his time as mainly homosexuals are
stripped of their rights and are starting to be taken as servants, almost.
To protect himself and further his plans, he builds an underground lair in which is a tower unlike anything seen on this
planet. Making the world trade Centers looking like tinker toys,
this massive tower erupts from underground and traps Florida
within a shield, no one in and no one out.

The love scenes are very intimate while the war is exhilarating and full of insight and
thoughts. Everything melds
together pretty good in the
mid section while the war, at a
boiling point, spreads across
all the continents and even
the moon.
It’s surprising to see a mind
think of this but still a good
thing to see new ideas. If
anyone would like a copy I’m

as the writer has given me

This month brings both a solar and
lunar eclipse. With the solar eclipse
and the new moon on the 8th in Aries,
you will feel either a freedom from old
emotions that do not serve you anymore or yourself fighting to hold on
to them. The Aries sun gives you the
capability to live in the now. Use this
to not let the day-to-day problems get
to you. Allow those old wounds to heal.
Like the fool, have faith, because when
the lunar eclipse and the full moon arrive on the 24th in Scorpio, either those
wounds will be inflamed or you will
find the peace you are looking for. This
month, no matter what, will set a new
emotional cycle for all, however it’s up
to you how you’ll use those changes.
Aries March 22- April 21 Happy solar

this month; you have many opportunities
available. Use the time through the 12th to
network and look at which opportunities
are best for you. Your hard work and talents will be seen. After the 12th you are
free to move forward with your decisions.

Taurus April 22- May 21 Make sure to
take time out of your hectic schedule to
pamper yourself. Both personally and
professionally you will be asked to assist
more than usual; don’t spread yourself to
thin. It’s a good time to learn how to prioritize and find your limits. Don’t feel bad
about saying no. It will be to their benefit
and yours.
Gemini May 22- June 21 This month
you’ll feel your personal and professional
lives are one in the same; realize they
are not. Take the time to let those close
to you know that it isn’t all business. Balance your month by catching up with your
work by the 12th, then pay attention to your

personal life. This month will be all about
balance for you.
Cancer June 22- July 21 It’s your month
for recognition. Don’t feel humbled by it.
Use it to take advantage of the business
opportunities coming your way. Now is a
good time to mix business with pleasure.
Through combining the two, you will at the
least find new friendships. If you aren’t involved in a relationship, you may find that
special one you’re looking for.
Leo July 22- August 21 Feeling restless?
The plans you had made aren’t going the
way you intended. Maybe there is a reason for that. This is a month for observation, not action. Be open-minded to the
possibility of your goals changing. Even
though you may want to assert yourself,
this is not the time. All will be revealed
when it should and then you will know
what to do.
Virgo August 22- September 21 Your focus this month is on finances. Not that you
are in financial trouble, but it raises more
of a concern. Not to worry, your finances
are fine. This month you will find a more
efficient budget or receive unexpected
additional monies. Instead of focusing on
your finances, look at the business opportunities being presented to you. You may
find it profitable.
Libra September 22- October 21 The
people who are close to you will support
you this month. This is a good thing. Because when it comes to business, all your
critics will come out. Handle them with finesse; you know the quality of your work.
Don’t allow them to doubt you. Don’t enter
into any partnerships. Continue on your
path and go with the flow. All will prove
itself in time.
Scorpio October 22- November 21 Your
work speeds up. You’re shouldered with
more responsibilities and no one to help.
Make sure you work smarter instead of
harder. Don’t hold all the stress in or you
will implode. The good part about this
month is that your friends will be there
to support you. Lean on them. They will
listen.
Sagittarius November 22- December 21
Time isn’t on your side this month. You will
find yourself running behind. Make sure to
plan extra time to be able to do the most
important tasks on your list and meet your
obligations. Your focus should be on finishing those loose ends. Personally, you
need your quiet time. Those close to you
will need to be patient.
Capricorn December 22- January 21 Details are important this month. All must be
discussed openly and agreed upon, both
in business and your personal life. Any deception on your part or passively ignoring
a problem will come back to haunt you.
This is a time for you to take action, clean
up the remnants from the past, and move
on to the goals at hand. Remember; keep
looking forward
stored for years. Do not make any important change or plan an event just before, during or shortly after an eclipse as
things become very unpredictable at this
time. However, it is difficult for an Aries
to wait patiently for anything. Developing
a healthy independence and self-confidence and finding out who we really are
is what this eclipse is all about. Eclipses
are powerful events in astrology. The two
mentioned above closely oppose the degrees held by the 2004 autumn eclipses.

Before I start on the tea, I need to say thank you to all the advertisers who have made
this magazine possible. This is our second anniversary issue and no matter how hard
we work or what we do, this magazine would not be possible without the support of our
advertisers. If you want a real shock, dig out issue #1 and compare it to this issue. We
are proud to still have three of the five original advertisers in issue #1: our very first
advertiser, Eclectus Antiques in Vero Beach, Club Bλrd Cage and East Coast MCC.
VIP’s is gone and The Bellwood Restaurant in Titusville no longer advertises. While you’re
at it look through this issue and see if you can stop in and buy something at each of the
advertisers to say thank you for making Out on the Coast magazine possible. Without
our current list of advertisers we could not continue to bring you the quality magazine you
have come to expect. We hope that a growing advertising base will allow us to expand
again this year to bring you, our family, even more. Additionally, I want to thank those of
you who have told me how much this magazine means to you. It makes the hard work,
long hours, frustration and sacrifices all worth it. I am proud to be part of a community
that is growing, coming together and becoming better and better.
The Treasure Coast Pride Festival is coming! True it got delayed a few weeks due to a
scheduling conflict at the park, but it’s definitely on for June 12 at Sand Hill Crane Park
(next to the Savannas Preserve off Walton Road) in Port St. Lucie. It’s amazing what a
little work will do: Kelli Randell, Club Bλrd Cage and Jim and Gerry of REBAR have
gotten things going in a big way bringing in Bud Light as a sponsor with a host of other
big name sponsors lining up. There will be more info next month, but at this point we
know there will be live entertainment and a karaoke contest, a hawk or eagle released
by Busch Wildlife Sanctuary (to attract the media) and a number of booths with food,
beer and games. Even Compass in West Palm Beach has called to see how they can
help. Circle the date on your calendars now, ‘cause this is something you won’t want
to miss!
Bliss, at Bombay Louie’s in Vero is an event
that keeps on keeping on. Although attendance is spotty, Elton keeps the talent on
stage and the place going. However, cut
backs were inevitable and unfortunately
advertising just had to go. I do know that
Bombay Louie’s is taking a Sunday in the
near future for a fund-raiser of their own, so
we’ll see how things go after that.
After the benefit for Gage at Club Bλrd
Cage this old girl was really confused!
Everyone on stage with tits was a boy and
the ones with baskets and facial hair were
girls. It was hard, um, difficult to know who
to get excited about – if you follow my drift.
So I just gave up and was excited about
everyone! If you missed that show, make
sure you don’t miss the next one because
it is truly amazing to see professional drag
kings and queens on stage together creating illusions as only they can. BTW, check
the pictures on page 16 and remember that
Gage, in the cowboy hat, isn’t a boy! Other

Another date to put on your calendar is May 6, the Miss $1.69 contest at Club Bλrd
Cage. This year the beneficiary will be PFLAG Vero Beach. Both to acknowledge the
great good this group does and as a nod to the reigning Miss $1.69. This is definitely a
good cause and it’s a fun show. Kelli Randell is always throwing outstanding benefits
and this one is sure to be another roof-raiser.
Speaking of roofs — The Cold Keg has a new one, that is one that is newer than the new
one that leaked and caused them to close for a few days. Contrary to rumor the ceiling
did not fall on Tasha Scott (she wasn’t even there). You know that old saying about the
fastest way to spread news being telegraph, telephone and tell a queen doesn’t mention
a thing about accuracy. Ask a queen about something and if she doesn’t know the facts,
she’ll just make them up!
And I’m sure they’re all out there making up a bunch of stuff about the Rainbow Room.
No it isn’t closed, yes they will be moving, but at press time they didn’t know when or
where (anyone who has bought a house can understand why things can take longer and
change at the last moment). The Rainbow Room decided not to advertise in this issue
because they didn’t know what to tell you about where they would be and what events
they had planned. Stay tuned for info next month on their next grand opening event.

The Rev. Dr. Jerry L. Seay is a former
pastor in the Assemblies of God. He has
been a pastor in the Metropolitan Community Churches since 1989. He and
his life-partner of twelve years, Mike Lufriu, moved to Brevard County to start
the East Coast Metropolitan Community Church. East Coast MCC meets in
Melbourne at the Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship, 2185 Meadowlane Avenue,
on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each
month at 6 p.m. Services in Vero Beach
are at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 355 43rd Avenue, on the 2nd and 4th
Sundays of each month at 6 p.m. Services in Port St. Lucies are at the Unity
Church in Lake’s Plaza, 8438 US 1, on
the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 5 p.m.

and two other women were on their way
to anoint the corpse with spices. Their
concerns were practical, ordinary: were
they strong enough to move the stone
aside? As they drew near, however,
they saw that the tomb was already
open. Puzzled, they went inside, and a
young man in a white robe – not Jesus
– sitting on the right side of the tomb
said: “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He
has risen; he is not here, see the place
where they laid him.” The women, Mark
said, “went out and fled from the tomb;
for trembling and astonishment had
come upon them; and they said nothing
to anyone, for they were afraid.”
The story, it seemed, was over. Convicted of rebellion, condemned to death
by crucifixion, nailed to a cross on a hill
called Golgotha, Jesus of Nazareth had
endured all that he could. In the chaos
of the arrest and crucifixion, the early
followers of Jesus had scattered. They
had expected victory, not defeat.
And so begins the story of Christianity
– with confusion, not with clarity; with
mystery, not with certainty. According
to Luke’s Gospel, the disciples at first
treated the women’s report of the empty
tomb as “an idle tale, and they did not
believe them.”
Instead, on the Friday of this particular Passover, at just the moment they
were looking for the arrival of a king of
heaven on earth, Jesus, far from leading the forces of light to triumph, died a
criminal’s death. Of his followers, only
the women and John stayed as Jesus
was taken from the cross, wrapped in
a linen shroud and placed in a tomb
carved out of the rock of a hillside. A
stone sealed the grave and, according to Mark’s Gospel, just after the sun

little more than provocative put powerless rhetoric. The women at the tomb
were stunned; confronted with the risen
Lord. Thomas initially refused to believe
his eyes; and at the end of Matthew’s
Gospel, some disciples still “doubted.”
When we are faced with an unexpected
event, our first reaction is usually to not
believe. We tend to have difficulty with
reality when it first hits us in the face.
We don’t want to admit that something
unexpected or unplanned has happened.
Once the reality sinks in, we have difficulty believing in any hope. We don’t
want to believe that any good news can
follow bad news. In our first reactions
to bad news, we find it easier to accept
the bad than to believe in the hope. We
panic. We lose our faith. We lose any
hope for the future.
When something good begins to happen after the bad, we don’t easily accept the news. Why is it easier to believe bad news than to believe good
news? Why do we have so much difficulty finding faith for our lives?
Like the early followers of Jesus, we
quickly give up the hope of our dreams
ever coming to life. We grieve. We become depressed. Some give up and run
away. Others gather for comfort and to
talk. We often fail to see any future.
Then a resurrected Jesus appears
in front of us. A Jesus of power and
strength – a Jesus of victory and overcoming: and we panic. We don’t believe.
Maybe the real story of the resurrection
is that we shouldn’t be so fast to give
up, to write people off, to say all is gone,
to give in to depression and despair.
Maybe there is something else coming
our way. Maybe there is something that
we have forgotten or not realized.
There is more to come. Disappointments, broken relationship, hurts, illness, betrayal, even death – these are
not the end. The bad news is not the
end of the story. The diagnosis is not
the end of the story. A casket is not the
end of the story. It’s just the end of a
chapter. Turn the page of life and find
resurrection and new life and dreams
coming back to life.

Appearances at The Cold Keg are changing. First the front bar has gone all burgundy
and gold with a wood ceiling and next up, I hear, is cyan and silver for… well, you’ll just
have to keeping popping in to see, won’t you? And while you’re there you can sing on
Wednesdays at karaoke at The Cold Keg or take your clothes off on trash Thursdays
or see a show and dance your ass off on the weekends. Be sure to check out the disco
hits with Roz Russell on April 9 for their Studio 54 party, destined to be another The
Cold Keg theme party success.
With the successes of the religious right insinuating themselves into our government
policies, it’s important to know exactly what they’re teaching about us. Did you know
that the literature used by religious right schools and used extensively in home schooling
and “faith based” groups states that it’s better to be dead than gay? That shocker came
from Marc Adams’ talk at PFLAG Vero Beach at their March 8 meeting. It makes the
work of groups like PFLAG all that more important. We need visibility, we need to be
out, we need the truth to be told, we need to save lives, we need to keep religion out of
our government!

On a more positive religious note, in July, the Metropolitan Community Churches will
be meeting in Calgary, Canada for their General Conference. At this conference, Rev.
Troy Perry, founder of MCC, will be retiring. The delegates will be electing a new leader
for the denomination. The nominee is the Rev. Nancy Wilson, former Vice Moderator
of the denomination and currently pastor of Church of the Trinity MCC in Sarasota, FL.
Among the special guest speakers will be the Rev. Gene Robinson, the first out gay
Bishop for the Episcopal Church. He will also be joined by another Episcopal bishop
who is president of the Episcopal seminary. On October 29, the MCC churches will
gather in Washington DC to install their new Moderator. The installation service will be
held at the National Cathedral in Washington DC, which has been turned over to the
denomination for that day. For more info on these items, you can visit the MCC website

Those who go to CHARLOTTE’S WEB religiously have lately been grooving on the tunes
of DJ CeeQ from Chicago. You know there really is a mellower sound from vinyl and with
a mix of old and new CeeQ keeps toes tapping and people moving up in Cape Canaveral.
And there’s a lot of vocalizing going on up there too. You know, karaoke. Three times
week. Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday at CHARLOTTE’S WEB. Complete with a
singing bartender. If you haven’t been, stop in and check the place out for a relaxing time
with pool and darts or socializing at the bar or a great show or dancing yourself silly.
REBAR chilli contest great success with a first prize of over $300! What a yummy follow
up to the amateur strip contest. Next month brings an amateur drag contest followed by
a bake off (first prize is guaranteed to be $100 with the $10 entry fees being added on,
so the more entries the bigger the… prize). And to top it all off Mercedes is the hostess
with the mostest for the talent contests bringing her unique talents to each contest. In
between times there’s karaoke with Chris on Wednesdays and a VJ Jag to entertain you.
Watch for more fun REBAR events in the near future!
Gay Rights tidbit: Do your elected representatives pay more attention to the religious
right than they do to your rights? Maybe you should contact them and let them know
how you feel because you can be sure the religious right is contacting them constantly.
