The MEDICAL FAIR ASIA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE’s main objective is the interdisciplinary exchange between international sports medicine experts, professional athletes and sports techies, the sporting goods and healthcare industry.
Taking place for the first time, the MEDICAL FAIR ASIA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE will be held on
1st of September in Singapore. The conference is a part of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, the leading medical trade
fair in the region with 10,000 attendees and 1000 exhibitors from all over the world.
This cooperation platform was established in 2013 at MEDICA, the largest medical trade fair in the world, to
foster new exchange formats, new sport medical therapies, and innovative products for prevention, recovery
and population health management. Connecting sports medicine and innovative technologies will result in
new and breakthrough advancements. By joining the inaugural MEDICAL FAIR ASIA MEDICINE + SPORTS

Dr. Ben Tan is Chief and Senior Consultant of Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital. The
Department runs two of Singapore’s leading Sports Medicine Centers - Changi Sports Medicine
Centre and Singapore Sports Medicine Center. Dr. Tan is also the Chairman of the Exercise is
Medicine Singapore and Exercise is Medicine Southeast Asia; Co-Chairman of the National Sports
Safety Committee and Past President of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore; Together
with this, Dr. Tan is also a published author as well as a researcher. His original research has been
published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

Prof. Dr. Norbert Bachl
Expert Committee
Prof. Dr. Norbert Bachl is a professor at the Department of Sports and Exercise Physiology in the
Centre for Sports Science and University Sports of the University of Vienna. Prof. Dr. Bachl also
serves as Director of the Austrian Institute for Sport Medicine, Vice President of FIMS and Honorary President of EFSMA. In addition to this, he is a member of the Medical Commission of IOC,
EOC, ÖOC and of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prof Dr. Bachl acts as the Head of
the Medical Commission of the UCI.
Ben Cheam
Expert Committee
Benjamin Cheam serves as the Director for Strategic Services at Changi General Hospital and is
a member of Hospital Management and Quality Risk Council which leads and manages the organization’s affairs, and is responsible for determining the vision and setting its strategic course.
He leads the development of strategic services for the hospital and is also the General Manager
for Home Care Enterprises, a social enterprise focusing on making caring at home easier. He has
substantial regional experience, having served in various senior appointments in healthcare, oil
and gas, NGO, F&B and manufacturing with operations in South East Asia, UAE, China, Japan,
Taiwan and South Korea.
Malia Ho
Speaker
Malia was awarded the prestigious Overseas Specialist Award from the Ministry of Health and
graduated with an honours degree from the University of Salford (UK) in 1998. She went on to obtain her Master’s degree from the National University of Singapore with her research work focused
on footwear for diabetic patients. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral degree in Sports Science
in Nanyang Technological University focusing on Foot structure, foot stability and running. Malia
is also the Principal Podiatrist of Singapore Sports Medicine Centre where she manages mainly
high performance athletes. She is also lectures at Nanyang Polytechnic and HMI International
regularly. She is also involved in research work and has presented her studies at various sports
conferences locally and abroad.
Dr. Joni Kettunen

Mr. Joni Kettunen, PhD, is a pioneer in physiological analytics and its applications. He is leading
Firstbeat at the cutting edge of heartbeat analytics for wearables, fitness devices, wellbeing services and professional sports. As of today, Firstbeat analytics is used by hundreds of elite sports
teams, thousands of corporations, and millions of consumers to improve their performance and
wellbeing. Before founding Firstbeat in 2002, Joni has published research in the areas of psychophysiology, behavioral medicine, autonomic nervous system function and stress quantification.
Joni received his PhD from the University of Helsinki in 1999.
Dr. Priathashini Krishnasamy

Dr. Pria Krishnasamy is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine. She completed her Sport
and Exercise Medicine (SEM) training in the UK and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine of UK (FSEM UK) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore (FAMS), in
the Sports Medicine sub-section. She also completed a Masters in Science in Sport & Exercise
Medicine (MSc SEM) from the University of Nottingham and obtained Membership of the Royal
College of Physicians UK (MRCP UK). Besides treating sports injuries, she is a passionate advocate of physical activity both in wellness and chronic diseases and is involved in an Active Lifestyle and Fitness program for persons with disabilities at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore.
Ping Kow

Kow is the Director and Co-Founder of Well Being Digital Limited, a company that is into building the world’s largest suite of highly accurate Pre-Medical IoT devices through B2B2C Branded
Products and having control of those Brands. The end game is to deliver meaningful recommendations to monitor and enhance people’s physiological conditions and modernize industries such
as Insurance, Media and Consumer Products. Kow co-founded Well Being Digital with a vision that
as semiconductors and sensors get smaller, more accurate and less power hungry; it would be
possible to add such technologies into things that people wear on themselves so that they can have
a better sense of their personal well-being and avoid later stages medical conditions whether
heart, fitness or posture related.

Dr. Jason Lee
Speaker
Dr. Jason Lee obtained his PhD in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University, UK. Jason is
a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. Capitalizing his experience as a Commando
Officer in the Singapore Armed Forces, Jason applies his military knowledge to his current work
as the Head of Human Performance Laboratory at DSO National Laboratories. He serves in various national and international boards pertaining to human performance and safety. Jason’s main
research interests are in heat mitigation strategies. He studies the demands associated with extreme exposures to ensure survival and optimal performance. He serves as an Adjunct Associate
Professor in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and consults
for the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Steve Leftly
Speaker
Steve Leftly is a world-leading expert in the field of electronic textiles and has led research in
the wearable technology field for over 18 years, authoring many patents in the field. Steve has
co-founded and launched MYOVOLT which is leading the global innovation in wearable Localised
Vibration Therapy (LVT) technology. He leads a research team at Sentrix Technology, working on
textile based wearable technology products for sensing, performance and actuation applications
in the sports therapy and heath care markets. He is also co-founder of award winning iLume
Wearable Lighting technology. In 2004 Steve set up Fibretronic Ltd developing ground-breaking
textile electronic solutions for many global garment brands, such as Levis, Nike, Adidas, and the
North Face.
Timothy Lim

Timothy Lim is head bikefitter and engineer at LOUE Bicycles, a facility specializing in cycling analysis. He is a gebioMized bikefit trainer for Asia, advanced SICI, Bikefit Pro, Shimano and Retül certified, and also a certified cycling coach with the Singapore National Registry of Coaches (NROC).
He has had experience teaching and training with bikefitters, sports scientists, physical therapists
and sports doctors from all around the world. Timothy also holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and is currently pursuing his
Masters of Engineering in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He designs, researches and
consults on bicycle parts, tools and cycling analysis technology, with NTU, Singapore Institute of
Manufacturing Technology (SIMtech), the Institute of Sports Research (ISR) etc.
Dr. Cormac O’Muircheartaigh

Dr. Cormac O’Muircheartaigh is currently the Director of the Sports Medicine Lab. He completed
his postgraduate Masters in Physiology (M.Sc Physiology) from University College Dublin (Ireland)
in 2000. He has also successfully completed a Dip. Sports & Exercise (Great Britain & Ireland) in
2003. Dr. O’Muircheartaigh commenced with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) in September
2004 and became Medical Director of the Singapore Sports Institute(SSI) in 2008. In this role he
was responsible for the medical care of Team Singapore athletes and managed all aspects of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of elite athletes in Singapore and internationally. In his role as a
Consultant Sports Physician and Medical Director (SSI), he has planned and coordinated support
for multiple major Games including SEA Games, Asian Games as well as the Olympic Games.
Prof. Dr. Raymond So
Speaker
Dr. Raymond So is currently the Director of Elite Training Science and Technology of the Hong
Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), the elite training center in Hong Kong. His major responsibility at the
HKSI is to drive innovation and scientific, medical and technological support to coaches to systematically and positively impact athletes’ high performance results. His research work is published
in international academic and professional journals and numerous keynote and invitational presentations. Dr. So has served the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science
(HKASMSS) for 20 years and was the President from 2001 to 2005, he now serves as the Honorary
Treasurer of the Association.
Christian Stammel

Christian Stammel is the founder and CEO of WT Wearable Technologies the leading innovation
platform for wearables. Being a visionary entrepreneur with broad technology know-how and a
pioneer in new fields of technology, Christian already founded his first successful ICT company in the mid 1990s. With more than 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship, marketing and
sales, and an excellent international network, he has supported companies from start-ups to
multinational industry giants in terms of business development, technology marketing and increase of sales. Christian holds an MBA in Business Management of the University of Regensburg.

Dr. Sonja Sulzmaier
Moderation
Sonja is Managing Partner of Navispace. Navispace organizes the Innovation World Cup Series
the biggest open innovation platforms in the IoT and wearables space with many innovative sports
and healthcare solutions. In cooperation with partners MEDICA, FIMS, ACSM, DGSP, EiM, EFSMA,
FESI, ISPO, and WT, Sonja and her team have set up an ecosystem that connects sports medicine,
sports and healthcare sector. Before, she was heading marketing of embedded systems company
ESG and worked for the Boston Consulting Group. She worked as an assistant professor at Witten/
Herdecke University and University of Arts Berlin. Sonja holds a degree in business management
and her phd thesis won the university award for being the best across all faculties. Her interest in
sports medicine has already started in 1989 with her high school thesis about the athlete´s heart.
Raymond Teo
Speaker
Raymond Teo is a Sports and Exercise Physiologist at the Changi General Hospital, Sports Medicine Unit. He has a decade of experience working with sports, clinical and general populations
in both locally and overseas. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a level
2 Clinical Pilates practitioner. Some of the major accomplishments include creating prototype
fitness testing for aviation fire-fighters and appointed as a Strength and Conditioning coach for
Sophia Pang during her 900km trek across the Antarctica in 2009. Raymond is passionate about
helping others enhance their performance and prevent overuse injury through scientific evidence.
Dr. Visit Thaveeprungsriporn
Speaker
Dr. Visit Thaveeprungsriporn is currently an innovator by profession; turning his passion about
technology ideation into more than 20 granted patents to-date. He also acts as the Executive Director of Zensorium. He has over 15 years of technology experience spanning across wide technologies and industries from materials design, non-destructive technology, hard disk drive manufacturing, laser technology, flexible circuit technology, and currently into optical sensor, wearable
technology, and even medical device sensors. Dr. Thaveeprungsriporn trained as a nuclear materials scientist from Purdue & University of Michigan.
Dr. Roger Tian

Dr. Roger Tian graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1996 and subsequently
trained and obtained postgraduate qualifications in Surgery (Masters in Surgery and Membership
of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh). He joined the Changi Sports Medicine Centre in 2004
after obtaining his Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Besides
his current appointment as a Consultant Sports Physician, he is also the Medical Director for the
Singapore Sports Medicine Centre at Novena Medical Centre. His clinical practice includes injury
management and prevention, performance optimization, and sports nutrition. Dr. Tian has served
as a sports physician/ medical director at several major events including the inaugural Asian Youth
Games and Youth Olympics.

Alexis Zervoglos

Alexis Zervoglos is Chief Business Officer at Qardio, the award-winning heart health solutions
company. Qardio creates connected medical-grade sensors, smartphone/tablet apps and cloudbased high performance analytics to drive deeper health insights. Alexis’ 22-year career spans
the finance and technology worlds. In the 1990s, he co-founded and ran a NASDAQ-IPOed company pioneering OLED technology, which is now starting to dominate the smartwatch, smartphone
and TV landscape. Alexis graduated from Oxford University with degrees in Engineering Science,
specializing in Artificial Intelligence, and from the London School of Economics with a degree in
Public Policy.
