New Zealand’s forest harvesters have radically changed operating practices. A drive to
improve safety has brought major new advances. Applied learning by leading logging
contractors has pushed mechanized harvesting up steeper slopes. Increased safety and
productivity has been the result. Led by the Kiwis, these new traction assist, camera
grapples and more innovations are going to work in North America.
Robotics, automation and remote controlled felling are also being developed where the
operator is well out of harm’s way. “World-first” operational trials from leading New
Zealand forest contractors will be reported at this conference.
