Welcome from the President,
September is approaching and we would
like to welcome you in Brazil for our
Congress in the beautiful Barra da Tijuca.
We are expecting more than 1500 plastic
surgeons from all over the world. You
can‘t miss this opportunity to take part in
a unique scientific and social program.
As the Congress will run for four days
from Friday to Monday, we suggest that
you plan to arrive on Thursday in Barra da Tijuca – a wonderful
new area of Rio not far from Copacabana, Ipanema and about 40
minutes from the International Airport. Our congress venue will
be the Windsor Barra Convention Center and all hotels, shops,
restaurants, golf courses, and the beautiful beaches are nearby.
Jorge Herrera and Nazim Cerkes are organizing a high level
educational program involving more than 500 speakers, moderators,
panelists and video presenters. In this catalogue, you will find the
nearly final program with an excellent international faculty that will
certainly bring us the most recent advances in our specialty. Our very
special social program, The Carioca Way of Life, will make your stay
in Rio unforgettable.
September is our springtime, a wonderful season in Brazil. You
must not miss other regions of Brazil like Iguaçu Falls, the Amazon,
and so many other beautiful places in our country.
We will continuously update our program on the congress website.
Please don’t forget to register and make your hotel reservation. Rio
de Janeiro is a very busy city at that time of year. If you have any
questions, please let us know.

BANKS
Banks in Brazil will normally all be open on Monday-Friday from

CLIMATE
Brazil’s climate can be characterized by five general climatic regions:
equatorial, tropical, semi-arid, highland tropical, and subtropical.
The climate ranges from tropical in northern Brazil near the equator,
to temperate zones below the Tropic of Capricorn. Temperatures in
Rio in September average a very pleasant 22°C (72 °F).

CURRENCY EXCHANGE RATES
The monetary unit in Brazil is the Real (plural Reais) (BRL). The rate
of exchange varies but is usually 2 Reais to 1 US dollar. Travelers’
checks and foreign bank notes are exchanged by banks, official
exchange offices at airports, or through ATM machines which
are readily available. Personal checks are not normally cashed by
Brazilian banks.
DISABLED FACILITIES
If you require disability specific facilities or have other special needs,
please indicate this on your registration form where you will be
requested to provide detailed information.
ELECTRICITY & WATER
Rio de Janeiro electricity is 110 volts or 120 volts, 60 cycles,
alternating current. An adapter is not needed for American
appliances. The most common electrical outlet accepts appliances
with two round pins as well as American style connections that have
two flat prongs and a ground. The Windsor Barra Hotel has both
types of outlets in every room.
It’s best not to drink the tap water in Rio de Janeiro, but instead
opt for bottled water. Restaurants serve only bottled water, either
carbonated (com gas) or non-carbonated (sem gas).
INSURANCE
For your own peace of mind, we strongly recommend that you obtain
adequate travel and health insurance prior to beginning your travels
to Brazil.

Congress Organizers are not liable for personal accidents, losses
or damage to the private property of registered attendees or any
accompanying persons during the Congress. Please make your own

VISAS and PASSPORTS
Most travelers are admitted into Brazil with a valid passport and a
visa. Some countries are exempt from the visa requirement. Please
check well in advance to determine if you will need a visa or not
and begin your application process at least three months before the
Congress.
VISA DOCUMENTS - INVITATION LETTERS
To allow us to assist you in obtaining any required visas or
travel documents, it is essential that you complete the Congress
registration using the on-line payment system and include a valid
email address. Congress Organizers will process your registration
and send a receipt of your payment. You can present this receipt

documents.
We cannot issue visa invitation letters until you have registered for
the Congress. If you need a letter of invitation to complete your visa
application, contact Carolina Pepe at [email protected]
and type VISA LETTER in the subject line of your email. Include your
name and address as they appear in your passport and advise if any
family members will be traveling with you who also need a visa.
In the event that your visa application is not successful, you must
advise the Executive Office by email at [email protected] by August
18, 2014 to receive a refund of your registration fee. No refunds for
unsuccessful visa applications will be made after August 18, 2014.

RIO DE JANEIRO - YOUR HOST CITY
Sitting on the southern shore of the magnificent Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro has, without
a shadow of a doubt, one of the most stunning settings in the world. Extending for 20km
along an alluvial strip, between an azure sea and forest-clad mountains, the city’s streets and
buildings have been moulded around the foothills of the mountain range that provides its
backdrop, while out in the bay there are many rocky islands fringed with white sand. The aerial
views over Rio are breathtaking, and even the concrete skyscrapers that dominate the city’s
skyline add to the attraction. As the former capital of Brazil and now its second largest city, Rio
has a remarkable architectural heritage, some of the country’s best museums and galleries,
superb restaurants and a vibrant nightlife – in addition to its legendary beaches. With so much
to see and do, Rio can easily occupy a week and you may well find it difficult to leave.
Barra da Tijuca or simply known as Barra is the youngest neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro
which was developed around 30 years ago. This neighborhood is famous for its Barra
Shopping Mall which houses over 700 stores and restaurants and its 17 km long sandy
beach. Barra is home to many luxury condominiums and large office complexes, making it
an emerging spot for the rich and affluent. The neighborhood is also known for its American
influenced lifestyle. Surfing, kite surfing and body surfing are popular sports here. It is one of
the richest neighborhoods and is known for its public and private safety largely due to the lack
of favelas in the area.
Certificates of Attendance will be provided at the Congress on request.
