Chamber Plans
Visit to China!
The Yadkin County Chamber of
Commerce is organizing an opportunity
to explore China for area Chamber
members, business owners or anyone
interested in world travel. The nine-day
trip, which will include stops in Beijing,
Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, is
scheduled for Oct. 19-27. The trip is
open to chamber members and nonmembers. The cost for members is
$2,475 and $2,575 for non-members.
The price includes round-trip airfare
from JFK, all transportation within
China, five-star hotel accommodations,
three meals a day, English speaking
tour guide, sightseeing and more. Bobby
Todd of the Yadkin County Chamber of
Commerce had an opportunity to visit
China on a similar trip last October and
he said it was amazing. “We had a great
experience,” he said. “The Chinese people
are friendly, they’re very inquisitive. It
was just a great experience.” Seeing and
walking on The Great Wall of China
and visiting the market in Shanghai
were some of his favorite things. He
said the meals during the trip were
fantastic, and accommodations were as
nice as anywhere. The trip is organized
specifically for business leaders and
chamber members though anyone
interested in Chinese culture and
tourism would enjoy it, Todd said. There
are numerous other chamber groups
from the United States that participate
and Todd said it is a great opportunity
to network.
Highlights for the upcoming trip will
include tourist stops in Beijing, Tian An
Men Square, Temple of Heaven, The
Forbidden City, Summer Palace, The
Great Wall of China, Ming Tombs and
more.
“We visited a lot of cultural and tourist
sites, as well as a meeting with business
leaders in China,” Todd said of his
previous trip to China. “We had a sit
down dinner with them and had a lot
of good dialogue, discussing ways to
improve economies in both countries.”

News Briefs from Around the Area
Ford Motor Company recently announced that interiors of the 2015 Ford
F-150 trucks will be manufactured using material made of REPREVE ® by
Unifi. Ford is the only automaker to use REPREVE, made from 100 percent
recycled materials including plastic bottles, in its vehicles. Ford is currently
using REPREVE in five vehicles built in plants all over the world.
Yadkin County was recently designated a “Storm Ready” county. Yadkin
is the 52nd county in North Carolina to achieve the designation, which
implements certain procedures to reduce potential disastrous results from
weather related events.

Dollar General recently opened a new store at 4109 East Old 421 Highway
in the Forbush Community. This is the sixth location for Dollar General in
Yadkin County.
Unemployment Rates in Yadkin County continue to remain below the state
average, and are the lowest in the area. The most recent period, through
March 2015, is reported at 4.6% for Yadkin County. This rate compares
to Davie at 4.7%, Forsyth at 5.2%, Iredell at 5.2%, Stokes at 5.1%, Surry
at 5.3%, and Wilkes at 5.5%. The unemployment rate statewide in March
2015 was 5.4%, and 6.4% in March 2014.
