WANDELPARADIJS
La Forêt-Fouesnant verwent zijn gasten op
niet minder dan 30 kilometer uitgezette
paden die zich lenen voor korte en langere
tochten in de natuur rond het dorp en in het
dorp zelf. Te voet, op de fiets of te paard,
maakt niet uit.
De natuur en de plaatselijke monumenten
staan centraal in alle tochten. Dit Bretonse

THE COVE OF
LA FORÊT
To visit the cove of La Forêt-Fouesnant, follow the
heritage discovery path. This trail offers walkers
the chance to discover the vast wealth of forest
heritage.
The first of the 8 information boards is located in
the “Place de la Baie”. This one-hour circuit starts
off towards the Cornouaille golf course, on the
left.

DE+ BAAI VAN
LA FORÊT
Rond de baai van La Forêt- Fouesnant is een
monumentencircuit van ongeveer een uur
uitgezet. In dit circuit komen alle plaatselijke
monumenten aan de orde via borden met uitleg.
Het eerste van de acht borden staat op de Place
de la Baie. Vervolgens gaat de weg naar links
richting Golf van Cornouaille.

THE OLD PORT
From 1850, many merchant ships came here to
load firewood, pigs, poultry, butter...
The harbour’s main activity from 1920 revolved
around the maerl industry (calcified seaweed).
The season began in late October and ended in
early May.
During the war, the old harbour was used as a
port of refuge for merchant ships and State
vessels.
DER ALTE HAFEN
Damals als Hafen von « Stang Al Lestreg » bekannt,
war der alte Hafen das Herz des Handels. Die
strategische Lage und die Bedeutung des
kommerziellen Warenaustausches ermöglichten
ab 1850 den Bau der Quais und die der 2
Frachträume. Jährlich werden hier hunderte
von Schiffe mit verschiedenen Waren be- und
entladen (Sand, Kiesel, Wälder, Körner...).
Am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts nahmen
zahlreiche Bauern an dieser winterlichen Aktivität
und Besonderheit des La Forêt- Fouesnant teil
und ergänzten somit ihr Einkommen. Zu dieser Zeit
kamen auch Sardinen- und Makrelen Fischer.
DE OUDE HAVEN
Vroeger was de oude haven een waar
handelsknooppunt en werd hij ‘Stang Al Lestreg’
genoemd: het dal waar boten werden gebouwd.
In 1850 waren de strategische ligging en het
drukke handelsverkeer redenen genoeg om
kades en twee scheepshellingen aan te leggen
in de haven. Jaarlijks leverden en laadden een
stuk of honderd schepen goederen van diverse
aard (zand, hout, granen, kalkwier).
In het begin van de twintigste eeuw werkten veel
boeren uit La Forêt- Fouesnant ’s winters in de
haven om wat bij te verdienen. In die tijd werd
in de haven ook aangemeerd door sardien- en
makreelvissers.

THE COVE OF
SAINT-LAURENT
The cove of Saint-Laurent is an extraordinarily beautiful site with
lush flora and a wealth of fauna, offering walkers one of the best
walks in the local area.
According to the season, along the banks lined with beech, oak
and chestnut trees, in the shelter of peaceful coves, walkers can
spot white herons, great cormorants, swans, kingfishers…
Food-lovers can collect shellfish, mushrooms or chestnuts along
the way.

SAINT-LAURENT
Eine außergewöhnliche Gegend, die mit einer wunderschönen
Flora gesäumt und mit einer üppigen Fauna versehen ist. Die Bucht
von Saint-Laurent bietet Spaziergängern einen der schönsten
Ausflugsziele der Gegend. Je nach gewünschter Jahreszeit,
können Naturliebhaber die bewaldeten Uferbuchten, Eichen
und Kastanienbäume genießen, welche geschützt durch die
friedlichen kleinen Buchten sind. Beobachten Sie die Seidenreiher,
die großen Kormorane, die Schwäne, die Martinsfischer...
Feinschmecker können zu Fuß ihr Fischfangglück versuchen oder
sich der Pilz- und Kastanienernte widmen.
DE BAAI VAN
SAINT-LAURENT
De baai van Saint-Laurent is een uitzonderlijke plek door zijn
schoonheid: een weelderige flora en een opmerkelijk rijke fauna.
Het is een van de mooiste wandelgebieden van de badplaats.
Natuurliefhebbers en vogelaars vinden in elk seizoen activiteit
tussen de beuken, eiken en kastanjebomen langs de kreken:
kleine zilverreigers, aalscholvers, zwanen, ijsvogels…
Maar ook ‘voetvissers’, paddenstoelenzoekers en kastanjerapers
vinden een spekkie naar hun bekkie in de omgeving van La ForêtFouesnant!

PENITI CHAPEL &
ITS OPEN AIR THEATRE
This chapel, known as the Saint Maudez or Peniti (penance)
Chapel, was built in the XVIIIth century.
Like many chapels in the region, this rectangular construction,
with an angular apse, was built at the top of a steep slope.
Inside, fourteen frescos recount the passion of Christ. They are the
work of Victoire de Saint-Luc, a nun from Douarnenez, guillotined
in 1794 at the age of 33.
Within the open air theatre, just near the chapel, is a fountain which
has been restored to look identical to the original construction. Its
water is believed to help small children learn to walk.
DIE PENITI KAPELLE
UND SEIN FREILUFTTHEATER
Im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut und als Kapelle von Saint Maudez oder
Peniti bekannt. Wie viele Kapellen dieser Region, markiert die
rechteckige Absis mit ihren abgestumpften Ecken am Steilhang
errichtet, den regionalen Stil. Im Inneren berichten 14 Fresken über
das Leiden Christi. Sie sind das Werk von Victoire de Saint-Luc, ein
Gläubiger von Douarnenez, der im Alter von 33 Jahren im Jahre
1794 hingerichtet wurde. Die Innenräume sind für die Öffentlichkeit
nicht zugänglich. Innerhalb des Freilufttheaters, ganz neben der
Kapelle, befindet sich ein Brunnen im ursprünglichen Bau neu
restauriert. Sein Wasser wurde als Begleitung des Lebens für Kinder
erkannt.
DE KAPEL VAN PENITI
EN HET OPENLUCHTTHEATER
De kapel dateert uit de achttiende eeuw en kreeg de naam Saint
Maudez of Peniti (penitentie).
Het bouwwerk is zoals veel kapellen in de regio gebouwd op de
top van een heuvel. Rechthoekig van vorm met een koornis met
gebroken hoeken.
Binnen vertellen veertien muurschilderingen het Passieverhaal:
het werk van Victoire de Saint-Luc, een non uit Douarnenez die in
1794 op 33-jarige leeftijd onthoofd werd. Bij het openluchttheater
naast de kapel ligt een fontein die herbouwd is in de originele stijl.
Het water uit deze fontein had de reputatie kleine kinderen eerder
te leren lopen.

THE HAMLET OF
LOC AMAND
Here we find the remains of the Saint
Amand priory which was founded in
1069 : a vast surrounding wall and a
beautiful ornate gate.

DAS DORF
LOC AMAND
In Saint-Amand entdeckt man die
Spuren des ehemaligen Priorats,
welches 1069 gegründet wurde. Ein
Spitzturm mit 2 runden, geschmückten
Blattwerken
überragt
die
große
Ringmauer und ein sehr schönes
bildhauerisches Portal. Vor dem Portal
befindet sich eine frühgeschichtliche
Stele der Eisenzeit; das Kreuz ist die
Markierung der Christianisierung. Lange
Zeit unberührt, wurde diese Stele gegen
1903 wieder neu errichtet und 1967 als
historischen Denkmal klassifiziert.
HET GEHUCHT
LOC AMAND
In Loc Amand staan de resten van de
voormalige priorij van Saint-Amand,
gesticht in 1069. Een tegenboog met
twee met bladwerk gesierde pinakels
op een hoge ringmuur en een zeer fraai
bewerkt portaal met korfboog.
Voor
het
portaal
staat
een
protohistorische grafzerk uit de ijzertijd
met daar bovenop een kruis. De zerk
werd in 1903 weer overeind gezet en
staat sinds 1967 op de lijst van historische
monumenten.

DE KERK ‘NOTRE DAME
IZEL VOR’
Een heuse ‘boerenkathedraal’ die
grotendeels gebouwd werd in de eerste
helft van de zestiende eeuw. De kerk is
gewijd aan Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Izel
Vor, wat staat voor ‘Laag Water’.

NOTRE DAME IZEL VOR
CHURCH
A genuine little country cathedral, this church was built for
the most part during the first half of the XVI century and is
consecrated to Notre Dame Izel Vor (Our Lady of the low
Sea).
Its elegant bell tower is one of the most representative of XVI
th century architecture in the Cornouaille area. Its calvaire,
dating back to the XVI th century, acted as an outdoor
pulpit for days when the crowds were abundant. An oak
frame carved with roses displays a Rosary painting gifted
to the parish in 1680, a work of art of Flemish inspiration
produced by a Dominican priest, classed as a Historic
Monument. Polychrome statues from the XV th and XVII th
centuries adorn the inside of the church. The baptismal fonts
from the XVII th century are also worthy of note, as well as
the altarpiece, supported by spiral pillars and embedded
with niches, statuettes and two medallions recounting
the mysteries of Annunciation and Assumption, the
handiwork of the master sculptor Jean Rufflay. It was
produced in 1640.
A slanted roof, a fine slender steeple, an old Calvary in a
verdant parish enclosure at the point of the bay.

■ Visit outside :
▪ The Calvary
Erected during the XVI th century, its base is a square
precinct with a small gothic spire at each angle. Two of
these spires carry the statues of Mary (now decapitated)
and of apostle John. The central shank spreads out in
brackets or consoles that carry the two thieves. On the
reverse side of the cross, is the crowned statue of the Virgin
and Child. Three steps lead to the precinct that served
long ago as a pulpit.
▪ The West Facade (see the front cover)
Very beautiful, typical of the Breton religious architecture.
The vertex of a triangular wall serves as a base for the bell
tower.
The adjacent and very decorative turret houses the stair
leading to the bell room. The bells were cast in 1614. On
the small spire above the gargoyles, one can read, in
the light of the setting sun, the words : Mr. Le Guyader,
pastor. The elegant spire is decorated at the base with fine
pinnacles and chiselled contours. The low porch, graced
with gothic small spires is embedded in the west facade,
something quite uncommon. Three statues mount guard :
Peter and his key, Paul and his sword, Mary quite worn out
through the years. Two stone statues wait for us under the
porch. These statues most probably belong to the 15th
century ; they still bear traces of their old original
polychrome. They are Saint – Roch, his dog, his pilgrim hat
stamped with the keys of Rome and Saint Melar a Breton
king. On the right, at the level of the water fount, one can
read the date : 1538.
■ Visit inside :
As soon as the door is open and before the eye catches
on the details, the soul is taken up by the spiritual atmosphere of the church, the harmony, the gracefulness of the
architecture, the spirit of recollection that pervades the
whole building. The nave is protected by a vaulted ceiling resting on twenty eight ribs. Dragon’s heads decorate
five tie – beams. From the round, cylindrical pillars, soar up
arches made light and elegant by prismatic ribs. Crystal
chandeliers light up the central aisle and the stained glass
window in the sanctuary. On both sides of the church are
windows of one, two, three mullions.
We begin the visit of the interior of the church by the left
side aisle. Let us remember that a church is a house of
prayer which invites us to pray, at least to be respectful.
▪ The Baptistery
Six Corinthian columns support an oak tester or canopy
decorated by a “leaved” frieze and crowned with small
statues representing the baptism of Jesus by John the
Baptist ; the baptismal vat and piscine are carved from
a single granite block. Way up, on the roof beam, a red
escutcheon bears the date : 1628.
▪ The Statues
They are numerous all around the church. Eleven of them
are made of wood, many are classified by the Committee
on fine arts. Let us discover them, starting at the Baptistery
and considering, as we move along, the Stations of the
Cross, “the retable”, the deposited crowns at their feet ;
the king has the face of Christ ; he carries in his hands the
crown of thorns. His royal mantle is already of the « Great
Century » ; in the second row, one can recognize Louis XIV.
In the background, the Turkish flag reminds us of the battle
of Lepanto to which, according to tradition, are attached
the name of Pius V and the devotion of the rosary.
▪ Santig-Du, the little black Saint
Mediocre statue, made of plaster, one of the most
venerated saints in all Quimper. Santing-Du won the heart
of the people at the time of the « Great plague » of 1349.
▪ Saint-Diboan, in wood, XVI th century
A very simple statue. Boan means pain in the Celtic
language ; this is a negation. People pray to the saint for a
painless agony, a peaceful death.
▪ Saint-Egarec, wood XVII th century,
A very elaborate statue. There is movement in the body ;
the carriage is powerful, the face rather common. The old
Breton Saint is represented in the garb of a Franciscan friar.
▪ The Stations of the Cross
Recent work of a local artist, are remarkable by the
harmony of colours.
▪ Saint-John the baptist, wood XV th century
It is a fine, precious work of art. The hieratic face, the
backward movement of the shoulders and the forward
one of the knee gives it life and nobility. The lamb of
God, announced by John, has come to close the Old
Testament.
▪ The Pieta, wood, XVIII th century
Work of the sculptor Antoine from the studio of the
Royal Navy at Brest.
▪ Saint-Abibon, wood :
Abibon is another name for Diboan.
▪ Saint-Alan, : wood XVII th century.
▪ Saint-Nicholas, wood, XVIII th century.
▪ Saint-Euthrope, wood XV th century :
He was the bishop of Saintes ; the Romanesque crypt
of the basilica of Saintes sheltered the pilgrims on their
way to Saint James of Compostello.
Our two statues of the Blessed Mother and child, on either
side of the main altar deserve our attention : they are two
jewels.
▪ Our Lady Of Kergornec, wood, end of the XVII th century :
A gracefulness somewhat affected. The young mother
marvels at the child playing with her breast. Their eyes
interlock ; their hands trace, one toward the other, the
circle of their intimacy.
▪ Our Lady Izel Vor (our Lady of the Low Sea), wood XVII
th century :
Splendid features ! It is the strong happy woman. All is

KIRCHE
«UNSERE LIEBE FRAU ZUR BUCHT»
Ein steil abfallendes Dach, ein zierlicher Glockenturm, ein
alter Kalvarienberg in der Grünanlage des Pfarrbezirks am
Ende der Bucht.
■ Äußerlicher Besuch :
▪ Der Kalvarienberg
Er wurde um 1500 errichtet und besteht aus einem Sockel,
dessen vier Ecken sich jeweils in gotischen Laternen
fortsetzen. Eine der Laternen trägt die Statue der Mutter
Gottes (ohne Kopf), eine andere die des Apostels Johan.
Die Mittelsäule weitet sich zu Konsolen, die die beiden
Schächer tragen. Auf der Rückseite des gekreuzigten
Christus befindet sich eine gekrönte Jungfrau mit kind. Drei
Stufen führen zu dem Sockel, der einst als Kanzel diente.
▪ Die Westfassade (S. Umschlagbild) :
Sehr schön und typisch für die religiöse Architektur der
Bretagne. Der obere Teil einer dreickigen Mauer bildet
die Grundlage des Glockenturm : In dem kleinen, sehr
dekorativen Nebenturm befindet sich der Treppenaufgang
zu der Glockenstube. Die Glocken wurden 1614 gegossen.
Auf den Laternen über den Wasserspeiern kann man im
Licht der untergehenden Sonne manchmal die Inschrift
lesen : ME LE GUYADER, CURE.
Die elegante Turmspitze wird an ihrer Basis von zierlichen
Giebeln und durchbrochenen Ornamenten geschmückt.
Die gedrungene Portalvorhalle, deren Gewölbe von
Gurtbogen getragen wird, ist mit gotischen Laterner
geschmückt und in die Westfassade eingelassen. Drei
Statuen : Petrus mit seinem Schlüssel, Paulus mit seinem
Schwert und eine Statue der Mutter Gottes, die im Laufe der
Jahre sehr gelitten hat.Unter der Portalvorhalle befinden
sich zwei Steinfiguren, die wahrscheinlich aus dem 15. Jh,
stammen. Sie tragen noch Spuren ihrer ehemaligen.
Vielfarbigkeit : Rochus mit Hund und Pilgerhut (mit
päpstlichen Wappen), Melar, ein heiliger König der
Bretagne
Rechts, in der Höhe des Weihwasserbeckens – ein Datum
: 1538
■ Das Innere der Kirche :
Noch bevor das Auge sich auf Einzelheiten konzentriert,
wird der Besucher ergriffen vom Geist des Gebäudes :
Harmonie, Anmut, Andacht.
▪ Die Wölbung des Kirchenschiffes hat 28 Rippen
Fünf Bundbalken sind an ihren Enden mit Drachenköpfen
versehen, aus deren geöffneten Rachen sie zu entspringen
scheinen (engoulant).
Runde Pfeiler ohne Kapitelle bilden Arkaden, die dank
ihrer prismenförmigen Rippen eine grössere Leichtigkeit
gewinnen.
Die Kronleuchter des Mittelgangs geleiten den Besucher
zu dem Chorfenster. Auf beiden Längsseiten erheben
sich elegante, durch ein, zwei oder drei steinerne Pfosten
geteilte Fenster.
Wir beginnen die Besichtigung in dm linken Nebenschiff.
Vergessen wir dabei nicht, dass die kirche ein Haus des
Gebetes ist !

Den Heiligen bittet man um einen sanften Tod. Der hl ;
Egarec, Holz, 17 Jh, schon sehr entwickelter Stil – Der körper
ist in Bewegung, die Haltung vermittelt den Eindruck von
Stärke, das Gesicht ist fast vulgär. Der alte bretonische
Heilige wird hier als Franziskaner dargestellt. Der kreuzweg
ist das Werk einer zeitgenössischen Künstlerin aus unserer
Gegend. Farbharmonie, Gestaltung des Raumes, der
Ausdruck der Gesichter fesseln den Betrachter.
Der hl. Johannes der Täufer, Holz, 15. Jh – ein zierliches,
bescheidenes und zugleich kostbares Kunstwerk. Durch
das ehrwürdige Gesicht, die zurückgenommene Schulter,
das nach vorn geschobene Knie wirkt es lebendig und
edel.
Das von Johannes verkündete Lamm Gottes bringt das
Alte testament zum Abschluss.
Unsere beiden Jungfrauen mit Kind auf beiden Seiten des
Hauptaltares sollten aufmerksam betrachtet werden : Sie
sind die Kleinode unserer Kirche.
Unsere Liebe Frau von Kergornec, Holz, Ende des 17.Jhs
– Eine etwas manirierte Anmut : Entzückt betrachtet die
junge Mutter das mit ihrer Brust spielende kind. Mutter und
Kind sehen einander an. Die Hand der Mutter und die des
Kindes deuten einen Kreis an, den ihrer Verbundenheit in
Liebe.
Unsere Liebe Frau Izel Vor (zur Bucht), Holz 17.Jh. – Ein
herrliches Gesicht ! Sie ist die starke, blübende Frau. Alles
ist geöffnet : die Augen auf den Horizont, die Zukunft hin,
die Arme zu dem Betrachter hin. Eine innige Freude erhellt
die kräftigen Gesichtszüge des Kindes und die der Mutter,
die uns ihr Kind entgegenhält.
Die beiden Statuen sprechen von den beiden Aufgaben
der Mutter, der Mutter Gottes : Sie nimmt auf, sie bringt zur
Welt.
▪ Die drei musizierenden Engel
Zwei stehen vor den Chorpfeilern, der dritte hinten
rechts. Die Linienführung verrät die grosse Bildhauerkunst
der Champagneim 13. Jh. Diese Engel sind Kopien ; die
Originale befinden sichin Reims. Zur Linken des Altars sehen
wir noch die hl. Margarete, Holz, 19Jh, den hl. Amandus,
Holz Ende des 17. Jhs. Er war Prior des 1 km vom Dorf
entfernten Priorats Loc – Amand, das im 12. Jh vom Grafen
Hovel gegründet wurde, von dem heute jedoch nur noch
Ruinen übriggeblieben sind.
▪ Das Rosenkranzbild 1680
Die Zahl der Medaillons ist gleich der der Geheimnisse des
Rosenkranzes – freudenreiche, schmerzhafte, glorreiche !
Überall Rosen ! Sie umgeben Maria und Jesus, Dominikus
und Katharina von Siena. Zu ihren Füssen haben der Papst
und der König ihre Kronen niedergelegt. Der König mit den
Gesichtszügen von Christus trägt in seinen Händen die
Dornenkrone. Sein Mantel ist schon wie zur Zeit Ludwigs
XIV. , der in zweiter Position zur erkennen ist.
Der türkische Pavillon im Hintergrund soll an die Schlacht
von Lepanto erinnern, mit der die Tradition den Namen
von Pius V und die Verehrung des Rosenkranzes verbindet.
▪ Das Altarbild
Die Handschriften sprechen von einem Werk von Jean
Ruffay aus dem Jahre 1640. Das vor uns stehende
barocke Altarbild scheint neueren Datums zu sein. Eine
Fülle von Arabesken, Engelchen, Blattornamenten und
anderen Motiven umrahmt zwei zierliche Medaillons :
Maria Verkündung und Maria Himmelfahrt. Uber den
beiden aufeinanderstehenden Tabernakeln sehen wir die
Himmelfahrt Christi. Der ursprüngliche Altar war eine breite
Steinplatte, die heute mit einem bunten Antependium
bedeckt ist. Der heute zur Messe dienende Altar ist nur
die Holzverkleidung des Steinaltars, der sich jetzt in der
Rosenkranzkapelle befindet.
▪ Die Pieta, Holz, 18 Jh, von dem Bildhauer Anthoine in
den Königlichen Marine – Werkstätten in Brest Geschaffen.
▪ Der hl. Eutrop, Holz, 16. Jh. Er war Bischof von Saintes,
wo die Domkrypta die Raststätte der Santiago – Pilger
war.
▪ Der hl. Abidon – ein anderer Name für Diboan.
« Santig – Du », der kleine schwarze Heilige. Mittelmässige
Gipsfigur für den in Quimper am meisten verehrten
Heiligen, der die Herzen der Einwohner dieser Stadt bei der
grossen Pest von 1349 eroberte.
▪ Der hl. Alan, Holz, 17. Jh, herrlich in seiner Stärke.
Bewundern Sie die eines Bischofs würdige Kopfhaltung !
▪ Der hl. Nikolaus, Holz, 18Jh, mehr Farbe als Relief.

DE KERK
«NOTRE DAME IZEL VOR»
Een heuse ‘boerenkathedraal’ die grotendeels gebouwd
werd in de eerste helft van de zestiende eeuw. De kerk is
gewijd aan Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Izel Vor, wat staat voor
‘Laag Water’.
De elegante klokkentoren is een prachtig voorbeeld van
de zestiende-eeuwse bouwkunst in de Cornouaille. Het
kruisbeeld werd op drukke dagen gebruikt als preekstoel.
Een polychroom beeld siert het interieur, evenals de
zeventiende-eeuwse doopvonten, een afbeelding van
de Heilige Maagd met Rozenkrans en het fraaie retabel
van het hoofdaltaar.
De kerk is het hele jaar te bezoeken.

■ Buitenlands bezoek
▪ De calvarieberg
De calvarieberg werd omstreeks 1500 opgericht en
bestaat uit een sokkel, waarvan de vier hoeken met
sierlijke gotische spitsen bekroond worden. Op twee van
deze spitsen ziet u beelden van Moeder Maria (het hoofd
is verdwenen) en van de apostel Johannes. De centrale
zuil toont Christus aan het kruis met aan weerszijden
misdadigers, die eveneens gekruisigd werden. Aan de
achterkant van het kruis ziet u de gegraveerde contouren
van de Maagd en het kind. Drie treden leiden naar de
sokkel, die lang als preekstoel dienst deed.
▪ De westkant
Een zeer mooie en typisch bretoense architectuur werd
gebruikt voor de bouw van de westelijke gevel. De
achterliggende driehoekige muur leidt naar de sierlijke
klokkentoren en in het decoratieve ronde zijtorentje
bevindt zich de torentrap die eveneneens naar de klokken
leidt. Deze laatste werden omstreeks 1614 gegoten. Op
de spitsen boven de waterspuwers kan men, door de
lichtinval bij zonsondergang, hetvolgende opschrift lezen:
ME LE GUYADER, CURE (Meneer de Guyader, pastoor).
Fijne pinakels en doorbroken ornamenten sieren de
gotische spits. Het gedrongen portaal draagt een gewelf
en rondbogen, ook hier versierd met typische gotische
spitsen. De manier waarop dit voorste gedeelte in de
westelijke gevel ingebouwd werd, is eerder ongewoon.
Drie beelden sluiten het geheel af: Petrus met zijn sleutel,
Paulus met het zwaard en Moeder Maria (met duidelijke
sporen van verval. Onder het portaal ziet u nog twee stenen
beelden, die waarschijnlijk uit de 15de eeuw stammen. Zij
vertonen nog sporen van hun oorspronkelijke polychromie.
De heilige Rochus met zijn hond en pelgrimshoed (met de
sleutels van Rome) en de heilige Melar, een bretoense
koning. Rechts, ter hoogte van het wijwaterbekken, ziet u
de datum 1538.
■ Interieur van de kerk
Bij het betreden van de kerk, wordt de bezoeker meteen
overvallen door een spirituele atmosfeer die in deze
ruimte hangt: harmonie, architektonische bevalligheid en
mysterie... Een rondgewelf steunt op 28 ribben die het schip
accentueren. Vervolgens ziet u de vijf steunbalken die aan
hun uiteinden gedecoreerd worden door drakenkoppen.
Ronde pijlers zonder kapitelen worden met elkaar
verbonden door tussenhangende arkaden, die dankzij hun
prismatische vorm een grotere lichthoeveelheid toelaten.
De opvallende kroonluchter boven de middengang leidt
de bezoeker naar het priesterkoor.
Aan de beide zijbeuken ziet u prachtige ramen, die
bestaan uit één, twee of drie onderverdelingen, begrensd
door stenen posten.
De diepere studie van de kerk begint aan de linker zijbeuk.
Laat ons u er even aan herinneren dat dit een religieus
gebedsgebouw is, respect is een vereiste!
▪ De doopkapel
Zes korinthische zuilen dragen een eiken baldakijn dat door
een fries met bladmotieven en kleine beelden bekroond
wordt: “De voorstelling van het doopsel van Jezus door
Johannes de Doper.” Het doopvont bestaat uit één groot
granieten blok. Helemaal bovenaan op de balken, toont
het rode wapenschild de datum 1628.
▪ De beelden
U treft vele beelden aan, waarvan er elf uit hout gesneden
zijn. Bovendien staan verschillende van deze beelden
onder de bescherming van monumentenzorg.
Aan de doopkapel ziet u reeds twee beelden:
De heilige Diboan, een eenvoudig houten beeld uit de
16de eeuw. Uit het keltisch vertaald: “Boan”= pijn en
“Di”=mensen die de heilige om een pijnloze en vredevolle
dood smeken.
De heilige Egarec, een houten beeld uit de 17de eeuw
dat tekenen vertoont van een zeer ontwikkelde werkwijze.
U kan de beweging in het sterke lichaam en het bijna
vulgair gezicht duidelijk waarnemen. Deze oude bretoense
heilige wordt hier als Franciskaner voorgesteld.
De kruisweg, een recent werk van een lokaal artiest. De

harmonie in de kleuren en de uitdrukking op de gezichten
zijn werkelijk opmerkelijk.
Johannes de Doper: een sierlijk, bescheiden en duidelijk
kostbaar houten kunstwerk uit de 15de eeuw. De
eerbiedige blik, de terughoudende schouder en een
naar voren leunende knie zorgen voor het levendige en
ijdele beeld. Het door Johannes’verkondigde Lam Gods
herinnert ons aan het Oude Testament.
Het loont de moeite om ook de twee beelden aan beide
zijden van het hoofdaltaar te bestuderen: “Moeder Gods
met het Kind”, de juwelen van deze kerk.
▪ Het Rozenkransbeeld, 1680
Elke medaillon komt overeen met een mysterie uit
de Rozenkrans: vredevol en glorierijk! Overal rozen! Zij
omringen Maria en Jezus, Dominikus en Katharina Van
Siena. Aan hun voeten hebben de paus en de koning
hun kronen neergelegd. De koning, met het gezicht
van Christus, heeft de doornkroon in zijn handen, zijn
mantel stamt uit de tijd van Louis XIII, die hier de tweede
positie inneemt. Het turkse paviljoen op de achtergrond
herinnert ons aan de Slag van Lepanto, een verhaal dat
samenhangt met Pius V en de Rozenkrans.
▪ De heilige Abidon, Abidon is een andere naam voor
Diboan.
▪ Santig-Du, de kleine zwarte heilige
Matig gipsen beeld van één van de meest geëerde
heiligen van de streek.
▪ De heilige Alan, hout, 17de eeuw.
▪ De heilige Nicolas, hout, 18de eeuw; meer kleuren dan
reliëf.
Onze Lieve Vrouw van Kergornec, houten beeld uit de
17de eeuw. De jonge moeder kijkt het, met haar borst
spelende, kind aan. De moeder-en kinderhand vormen
een kruis als teken van hun verbondenheid in de liefde.
Onze Lieve Vrouw Izel Vor, houten kunstwerk uit de 17de
eeuw. Een prachtig zicht! De sterke stralende moeder,
starend naar de horizon, de toekomst tegemoet. De armen
uitgestrekt naar de bezoeker. Een diepe vreugde toont de
sterke band tussen het kind en de moeder die ons haar
zoon aanreikt. Deze twee beelden zijn het symbool van de
dubbele missie van Maria, die het kind baart en opneemt.
▪ Retabel
De oudste geschriften spreken van een werk van de
hand van Jean Ruffay uit 1640. Maar in werkelijkheid
zou dit barokken altaarstuk van recentere datum zijn.
Een overvloed van arabesken, engelen, blad-en andere
motieven versieren twee medaillons: “Maria Boodschap”
en “de hemelopneming van Maria”. Boven de medaillons
ziet u de “Hemelvaart van Christus”.
▪ De heilige Eutrop, hout, 16de eeuw.
Hij was de bisschop van Saintes; in de romaanse crypte
van de basiliek van Saintes overnachtten de pelgrims
tijdens hun tocht van Saint James naar Compostello.
▪ De musicerende engelen
Twee ervan bevinden zich links voor het koor en de derde
ziet u rechts achter. Het lijnenspel verraadt de hoogstaande
13de eeuwse beeldhouwkunst van de Champagne. Deze
engelen zijn echter copies, de originelen bevinden zich nu
in Reims, in 1989 zijn ze ontvreemdt geweest. Links van het
altaar ziet u nog de heilige Margaretha, houten beeld uit
de 19de eeuw en de heilige Amandus,eveneens uit hout,
einde 17de eeuw; hij was de geestelijke eerwaarde van
Loc-Amand, een kloostergemeenschap op 1km van het
gehucht. Vandaag blijven er enkel ruïnes van over.
▪ De Pieta, uit hout gesneden, begin 18de eeuw; gerealiseerd door beeldhouwer Anthoine in zijn atelier in Brest.
