For decades EWK Umwelttechnik
has built plants for air purification and
flue gas cleaning. Proven technology,
experience and continued development
have resulted in an efficient method of
flue gas cleaning in the chipboard
industry.
Emissions from dryers and presses,
such as dusts, organic hydrocarbons,
aerosols, phenols, aldehydes as well
as the widely visible blue haze in the
neighbourhood of chipboard plants,
can be successfully separated. Odour
emissions have also been reduced to
a no longer pestering level. Today we
are thus able to achieve a visible and
noticeable improvement in the quality
of environment.
About the System
The waste gas from the driers as well
as the exhaust air from the presses is
brought to dew point temperature in
the crude gas pipe system by evaporation cooling. Pollutants are simultaneously pre-absorbed.
The absorptive separation of phenol,
formaldehyde as well as other watersoluble pollutants takes place in the
wet absorber.
Aerosols, solids and particularly blue
haze are separated in the down-stream
wet electrostatic precipitator. The
precipitation surfaces are periodically
cleaned by a brief surge of water
during operation.
The post oxidation stage effects an
additional reduction of organic hydrocarbons before the cleaned gas reaches the chimney via a spin collector.
The closed absorbent cycle is
continuously cleaned by coarse and
fine substance filtration in self-cleaning
reversible flow filters. The thickened
sludge is drained by a decanter and
can be disposed in the plant’s furnace,
used in the boards or has to be handled according to local requirements.
With a heat recovery system heat
energy can be recovered out of the
absorbent cycle. This energy can be
used for heating up combustion air,
for heating production hall or even for
feeding into a town heating grid.
The Components
Material:
The collected emissions generate
organic acids because of their solubility in water. To prevent corrosion,
all media-contacting parts are made
of stainless steel. Fittings consist of
stainless steel or non-corrosive
material as well.
Construction:
To keep production, transportation
as well as assembly as economical
as possible, a modular construction
is chosen today. The patented central
support with integrated spin mist
collector bears a key static function.
Key Elements:
With a rotation screen coarse material,
such as loosened caking or coarse
chips, can be collected to reduce possible clogging in the absorbent cycle.
The direct current for the
electrostatic separator is controlled
by thyristors via a high-voltage
aggregate. Current and voltage are
optimized by a special flash-over
control for maximum separation.
Critical components, such as the
absorbent pumps, are implemented
in several units to assure operation
even during breakdowns.
Reversible flow filters, specially
developed for these systems,
remove even the finest solids from
the absorbent cycle.
Filter casing with central support
during assembly
Different types of heat recovery
systems enable to win back valuable
heat of several MW, giving a large
payback of the investment.
The scrubber packing is constructed
of crimped perforated sheets with an
excellent record of resisting clogging.
The actual wet electrostatic precipitator is manufactured of hexagonal
honeycomb clusters. They offer the
largest precipitation surface in the
smallest place.
