28th Infantry Division Association
Inaugural Benefit Dinner Edition
Inaugural Benefit Dinner Held
The 28th Infantry Division Association held its
first benefit dinner and silent auction on Friday,
April 30, 2010 at the LeTort View Community
Club at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle.
The purpose for our event was to raise funds for
projects that fulfill the mission of the organization, specifically, 28th Infantry Division Scholarship Fund, the Monument Fund and the Military
Museum Fund. None of these are supported by
government funding and rely on private donations and member support.
The Pennsylvania National Guard's 28th Infantry
Division Association is a non-profit 501 (C) (3)
organization that was founded by a group of
Pennsylvania National Guard Officers from Fort
Indiantown Gap over 20 years ago. One of the
Association’s missions is to raise money for the
Pennsylvania National Guard’s projects that are
not supported by government funding and rely
completely on donations.
In the past, the Association has relied on membership fees and private donations to try and
meet their financial goals. But with dwindling

membership due to the aging of our World War
II and Korean Conflict veterans, and the need
for educational services and monuments for our
Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans, these past
methods were no longer enough. To help remedy the situation, the proceeds from the newly
created annual dinner will be used for these
projects. The event is open to the public and
both corporate and private donations are
accepted.
Our first event exceeded all of our expectations
and we raised several thousand dollars. We
would like to give a big thank you to everyone
that came out or sent a donation to support the
event. Hope you had as much fun as we did!
Save the Date! Second Annual Benefit Scheduled
We had such a positive response at our Inaugural Event, that we have scheduled our benefit
for next year already so that everyone can make
plans now. Our 2nd Annual Pennsylvania National Guard 28th Infantry Division Benefit Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, April
30, 2011 at Felicita Resort and Spa in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania. Next year’s theme will be A
Salute to WWII. The event will start with a cock-
tail hour and feature a dinner buffet with entrees
of Stuffed Breast of Chicken and Pasta and
Shrimp. Look for more new and exciting auction
items as well as some popular times from the
past. Golf packages, spa packages and overnight accommodations are available at a special
rate for our dinner guests. For information and
details, call Felicia 1-888-321-3713 or 717-5995028 www.felicitaresort.com

The 28 th ID Scholarship Fund
An annual $500 scholarship is given on behalf of the Association
through the Pennsylvania National Guard Scholarship Awards Program. The purpose of this scholarship is to help a member of the
28th Infantry Division achieve their undergraduate educational
goals and is open to 28th Infantry Division members in good
standing or the child of a member who has died or become permanently disabled while on National Guard duty.
The primary goal of the Association for the scholarship fund is to
establish a $50,000 annuity so that the scholarship fund can become self sufficient. This will ensure that all of our soldiers have
every opportunity to further their education. The Association
would like to raise the initial $50,000 within the course of ten
years.
The Monument Fund
The 28th Infantry Division Association supports memorials honoring the division and assists in their maintenance to the extent possible. The Monument Fund is a special purpose fund designated
for monument projects that are approved by the Executive Council. This includes purchase, restoration, or repairs of monuments
that honor the 28th Infantry Division or its regiments. Any monument across the Commonwealth can be seen as a worthy project.
The 28th Infantry Division Association dedicated two new monuments in Boalsburg this May. One honoring the call up of our 28th
Infantry Division soldiers for the Korean Conflict and one honoring
the 28th Infantry Division Band’s heroic actions in Wiltz, Luxemburg during World War II.
The Military Museum Fund
The 28th Infantry Division Association supports the collection and
preservation of historic records appropriate to the heritage of the
28th Infantry Division. This fund is to help promote the history and
heritage of the Pennsylvania
National Guard and the 28th
Infantry Division. Examples
of uses are for museum restoration projects, archival storage building or to preserve
or acquire historical artifacts.
The PA Military Museum and
the PNG Military Museum are
the primary benefactors of
this fund.

Our Guest Speaker - Captain F. W. “Bill” Rohm, US Navy, Retired
Captain Rohm is the great-grandson of
Ferdinand F. Rohm, Chief Bugler, 16th
Pennsylvania Cavalry and the author of
No Braver Man. The book is a story of
the factual events that occurred surrounding the activities of the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry from the formation of
the regiment in 1862 until it was mustered out in 1865. The book highlights
the battle at Reams Station in which
Ferdinand F. Rohm saves the life of
James Addams Beaver, who later becomes Governor of PA, and for
which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
Captain Rohm went to Penn State as an NROTC Midshipman and
served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, having commanded two nuclear
submarines and the Naval Maritime Intelligence Center. Since
then, he has served on the Director's staff of the Applied Research
Laboratory of the Pennsylvania State University. He resides in Juniata County, Pennsylvania with his wife, Shirley.
Captain Rohm donated the proceeds from his book sales the night
of the dinner to the Association. Many thanks to Captain Rohm!
