Saturday morning 16 brave souls opted to follow Star and I in to the “wilds” of central
Florida. There was Sue, Lew & Diane, Al & Maggie, Annette Gabardi, Pat & Frank, Bob &
Janet, Rhonda and Klaudia.
It started out a little chilly (53 deg) but with our Club jackets over our Club shirts, we set
out for Myakka City and the stables of the Lipizzan Stallions. We started out from the
Dimmitt parking lot and headed down I-275 where we met up with Paul & Carolyn. A quick
“pit” stop and we were off to find the stables. It was a nice, careful, drive into the
hinterland of Myakka City and the Lipizzan Stables. Upon arriving we were escorted to a setaside parking for our Corvettes. Al asked me “how did you ever find this place”. I had to
admit I’d been here before and with the help of MapQuest, it’s easy? It was a super show,
as usual but not as long as I remembered. Plenty of oohs and awes abounded and by 11:15
it was over. We then toured the stables to see the horses in their habitat and some more
pictures. We were not scheduled to be at “Der Dutchman” until 1 so I called them and they
said to come on over, they were ready. Another leisurely drive thru horse country and into
Sarasota. Some of us brought their 2-ways and we chatted while in route. When we got
there we were escorted to our reserved table with our name proudly displayed, “Reserved
for Bay Area Corvette Club”. Altho you can order off the menu after browsing the buffet
table, it was unanimous to partake of the vast quantities of food. As usual, the fare was
scrumptious and we ate and ate. The restaurant has a nice store where you can purchase
pies, cakes, cookies, apple butter, fudge, candies, and upstairs are some quaint quilts, and
other junk. Some departed to Ellington and others went to stores around the complex. Star,
Sue and I headed home, with another successful TGI under our belts!
