12th Blues Festival Basel – die Stadt Basel lebt den Blues
Internationale Stars der Bluesmusik geben sich in der Zeit vom Dienstag, 12. April, bis Sonntag,
17. April 2011, in Basel ein Stelldichein. Beim 12. Blues Festival Basel wird im Volkshaus, und auch
an anderen Schauplätzen, einiges los sein.
Den Auftakt bilden die Musiker der Brazz Attack Streetjazz Band, die am 2. April und am 9. April
zweimal durch die Stadt ziehen wird und im Stücki Shopping ein Platzkonzert geben wird.
Empfehlenswert ist die mit Newcomern besetzte Swiss Blues Talent Night am 12. April in der
Galery Music Bar in Pratteln. Anschliessend finden die Veranstaltungen durchwegs im Volkshaus
statt.
Einige Perlen aus dem reichhaltigen Angebot sind der kanadische Spitzenmann JW Jones mit
seiner JW Jones Band, Monster Mike Welch mit seiner Band sowie CH-Klasseblueser Philipp
Fankhauser, welcher seine brandneue CD im Gepäck hat. Gespannt sein darf man insbesondere
auf Tommy Castro & Band. Der sensationelle Gitarrist Tommy Castro wurde auch schon mit
Robert Cray, B.B. King und Albert Collins verglichen. Gleichentags wird auch Shanna Waterstown
– eine neue Blues-Vokalistin mit viel Verve und Pep – auftreten.
Mit Spannung erwartet wird der Abend vom 15. April. Dann wird sich Blueslegende Jimmy
Johnson in Basel die Ehre geben. Der berühmte Altmeister des Blues wird von Saxophonist Sam
Burckhardt, Guy King, Ben Peterson, Isaiah Spencer und anderen hochkarätigen Bluesern
begleitet. Die Musiker logieren während dieses Festivals im Kleinbasel, im Hotel Palazzo und im
Hotel Wettstein.

12th Blues Festival Basel - The City lives the Blues!
International stars of Blues Music are gathering in Basel from Tuesday 12 April, to Sunday, 17th
April 2011. During the 12th Blues Festival Basel something great is cooking at the Volkshaus and
other hot-spots!
As a prelude, the musicians of the Brazz Attack Streetjazz Band will march through the city on the
2nd and 9th April, and regale us with a concert at Stücki Shopping. Another treat is the Swiss
Blues Talent Night - with plenty of newcomers - on the 12th April at the Galery Music Bar in
Pratteln. All following events will take place exclusively at the Volkshaus.
Some exquisite jewels of the rich agenda are the Canadian top musician JW Jones with his JW
Jones Band, Monster Mike Welch with his Band, as well as our very own Swiss top notch blueser,
Philipp Fankhauser, who has a brand new CD up his sleeve. We are also particularly anxious to
see Tommy Castro & Band. The sensational guitarist Castro has been compared to the likes of
Robert Cray, B.B. King and Albert Collins. On the same day, we shall see the performance of
Shanna Waterstown - a new Blues vocalist with plenty of verve and pep.
Also eagerly expected is the evening of the 15th April: that night, Blues legend Jimmy Johnson will
do us the honour of performing in Basel. The famous grandseigneur of Blues is accompanied by
famous saxophonist Sam Burckhardt, Guy King, Ben Peterson, Isaiah Spencer, and other high
carat blues artists. During their visit the musicians will be staying in Kleinbasel, at the Hotel
Palazzo and the Hotel Wettstein.
During the festival all CDs as well as the big "Jubilee Book" (which was published on the occasion
of the 10-year anniversary of the Blues Festival Basel) will be on store at Georg Tanner Records.
