MV Experiencing Strong Growth
Dear Friends,
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is on a steady growth path. In 2014, the gross domestic
product in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern increased by 1.6 percent in real terms. I am
particularly pleased that the gross value added rose by an impressive 8.1 percent
in the manufacturing sector and by 2.4 percent in the construction industry. The
manufacturing sector saw its share of the state’s total economic output grow from
10.1 percent in 2013 to 11.8 percent in 2014.
The labor market in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is also developing well. Over
the past 10 years, our unemployment has dropped by more than half. The jobless
rate was 21.6 percent in April 2005 and only 10.6 percent in April 2015. Furthermore, the number of employees paying mandatory social security contributions in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has risen steadily: from approx. 503,000 in 2005 to
approx. 550,000 in 2014.
This positive economic development can be seen in almost all sectors: from the manufacturing, healthcare, and service industries to the skilled trades. For the tourism
industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, 2014 was the most successful year to date,
with 28.7 million overnight stays and 7.3 million guest arrivals. The goods-producing
industry, particularly the manufacturing sector and the skilled trades, has been a
powerful engine for growth. The economic upswing has also reached the service
sectors.
This shows: Our state’s economy is on firm footing. More jobs, companies with a
strong willingness to invest, a record-breaking number of overnight stays in the
tourism sector – these facts make me optimistic about the future. That being said,
now is not the time to rest on our laurels – we must continue to work hard for this
success every day. Many tasks and challenges still lie ahead.
We will continue to work on the improvement of economic conditions for our small
and medium-sized companies and on the creation of attractive and secure jobs and
training opportunities. Above all, we must reduce the seasonal fluctuations in employment.
Thanks to the new EU-funding programs for 2014 to 2020, we are still able to offer an
attractive portfolio of support opportunities. Grants for research and development
are aimed at strengthening cooperation between the state’s innovative companies
and universities.
The state economic development agency Invest in MV plays an important role in the
recruitment of new businesses to our state. This year, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
will celebrate its 25th anniversary of statehood. This is a perfect opportunity for us
to look back with pride on our many achievements. The state economic development
agency was created shortly after Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was founded and, since
then, has made a sustainable contribution to its economic development through
business-recruitment activities. Many companies that have set up operations here
over the past decades are now well established and set on a course of expansion. And
“course” is a good buzzword for us. We need more new businesses, and Invest in MV
will help us attract them.
I would like to thank the entire staff of Invest in MV for their great work. Special
thanks also go to YOU, the business leaders who have invested – and are still investing – in our beautiful state. You have recognized and embraced the opportunities
available in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
We are happy to support you in the implementation of your plans.

The year 2014 was marked by the creation of new opportunities. In addition to tried-and-tested locationmarketing activities, more than 100 other individual initiatives were carried out. In the context of roughly
90 trade fairs and events, approx. 46,000 business representatives were approached and 133 new projects
generated for the state. This success has laid the foundation for the recruitment of further businesses
and for new economic opportunities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Invest with Strong Partners
Invest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH is the economic development agency
for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As a “one-stop agency,” we are a
partner for companies interested in expanding to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

& the EU

Trust in Our Services – Supporting You Since 1991
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers ideal conditions for your investment. The
excellent investment climate, effective resources for recruiting skilled workers
and management personnel, cutting-edge research institutes, and active networks offer outstanding opportunities for new and expanding businesses, as
well as exceptional prospects for development. We support national and international investors, providing guidance on all relevant matters.
To this end, our experts offer project-management and support services, ranging from site evaluation to the implementation of the investment project.
All inquiries are treated confidentially, and our services are free of charge.
For Invest in MV GmbH, 2014 was an especially active year. The additional ERDF marketing activities initiated by
the Ministry of Economics in 2012 have created new opportunities in location marketing that otherwise would not
have been possible. With the support of three additional staff members, our agency was able to carry out more than
one hundred initiatives over and above its normal activities. Most importantly, our location-marketing campaigns
were complemented by targeted initiatives, such as mailings and promotional films for the respective industries. In
the context of roughly 90 trade fairs and events, our agency was able to generate approx. 46,000 contacts to business
representatives and 133 new projects for the state. As experience has shown, the more projects we attract and support,
the more new businesses set up operations in the state.
In 2014, Invest in MV also succeeded in securing additional federal funds for strengthening its business-recruitment
activities in Japan. The federal project “Japan” was mainly focused on electrical engineering companies and projects.
For the implementation of this project, we recruited Doreen Hanke as a new project manager for our team. This
means that we can plan for the year 2015 with additional staff and budget resources. The new businesses that have
been recruited through projects supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) are a great testimony
to the success of our work. In this area, our efforts are always focused on the creation of more and higher-quality jobs
in the manufacturing industry.
The projects that were successfully completed in 2014 are proof that we have taken important steps in this direction.
Examples include the company AqVida, a producer of oncology medicines, Aero Coating, a manufacturer of coatings
for the aerospace industry, and Lenzen-MillTech, which is building a recycling facility for the recovery of copper in
Grevesmühlen. We would like to thank our partners from industry and politics for the outstanding support they have
provided and hope you all enjoy this Annual Report.

“Invest in MV means the promotion of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern internationally. This fact became clear to me when
I started my job as project manager for
the implementation of the Japan project.
My responsibilities included, above all, the generation of new contacts
through visits to Japanese trade fairs and events. Through this work,
I am able to apply the theoretical principles that I learned during my
studies. At Invest in MV, I experience firsthand what “International
Business” means.
I look forward to the new and exciting areas of responsibility awaiting
me in Team 1. I am looking forward to the new business year and
the upcoming projects in our state. In addition to these new roles, I
will still serve as the main contact person for Japanese investors. As a
native of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, I am proud to support the state
in its continued economic development.”

“Team 1 focuses on the sectors of the manufacturing industry that
fit to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. These include the classic mechanical engineering and special-machinery manufacturing, the
maritime sector, renewable energies, aviation, and the chemical
and plastics industries. We also initiate and actively support
projects in the automotive industry. As in the past, we will continue
to focus our outreach efforts on Turkey, Benelux, and Japan.”
“Team 2 focuses on highly innovative sectors like life sciences and
medical technology, as well as the high-revenue food industry
and related segments, including food technology and packaging.
Outreach efforts in 2014 were mainly aimed at Benelux, Italy,
the Baltic region, Austria, and Switzerland. In 2015, initiatives
will be added in Scandinavia and Switzerland.”

There is no substitute for the direct and face-to-face exchange of experiences and information. This is why
Invest in MV visited companies in several countries, organized investor conferences, and established business
contacts with European partners. These activities received significant funding from the “European Regional
Development Fund” (ERDF). In addition, a new federal project focused on Japan was launched in 2014 with
the aim of expanding business recruitment in Asia.

Financial support from the “European Regional Development Fund” is expected to be approved for an additional five years beginning on August 1,
2015. In the past few years, these funds have been used effectively in several
areas. For example, Invest in MV was able to generate many new leads and
initiate projects, of which 14 were brought to a successful conclusion.
With the approval of renewed funding, this work can be continued in the coming year. Plans have been made for visiting several trade fairs and events,
and for making contact with potential investors. In 2015, the ERDF 1 and 2
projects will be focused on targeted business recruitment in various countries.
Owing to recent developments, Switzerland has become one of the main
priority countries. As part of its Switzerland project, Invest in MV will produce a booklet that will inform Swiss companies about opportunities in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Participants were given practical tips and advice about setting up operations
in Germany and even had the opportunity to ask specific questions in personal
consultation sessions. One workshop focused on the cultural and legal differences
between the Netherlands and Germany. In preparation for the event, a total of 4,000
Dutch companies were contacted with information about the investment location
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Priority Region Benelux
In the context of the ERDF Priority Region Benelux, two events were organized in
2014: one in Belgium and a second in the Netherlands.
The speakers Bert Doldersum from Ostseestaal GmbH & Co. KG (Stralsund) and
Diederik Parlevliet from Euro-Baltic Fischverarbeitungs GmbH (Sassnitz) gave impressive and practical presentations on the advantages of investing in MecklenburgVorpommern. Harry Glawe, Minister of Economics, and Michael Sturm, Managing
Director of Invest in MV, also outlined the state’s locational advantages.
Wilkom + Welkom: Round Table in Belgium
On September 24, 2014, an investor event in the form of a round-table discussion
took place at the Xpo Meeting Center in the Belgian city of Kortrijk. Two Invest in
MV employees supported the German-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce
(AHK Debelux) in the organization of the event. Furthermore, visits were made to
several companies that had been identified through lead-generation activities as
having interest in setting up operations in the state. The northern Belgian region of
Flanders has several companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sectors.
Conclusion: Further events could be focused on this region in the future.
Welkom Nederland!
Another investor event in the context of the ERDF Priority Region Benelux took place
on November 26, 2014, in the Dutch city of Nieuwegein (near Utrecht). This event was
organized by the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce (DNHK) in close cooperation with Invest in MV. Attending the conference were Dutch investors and companies
from various branches of industry, including the service, trade, steel construction,
mechanical and plant engineering, electronics, metalworking, renewable energies,
food, transport, and logistics sectors.

Günter Gülker
Director of the German-Dutch Chamber
of Commerce (DNHK)
“For Dutch companies, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been
one of the most important investment destinations for many
years now. Leading companies from the fisheries, agriculture,
food-processing, metalworking, and tourism sectors have set up
operations here and are very satisfied with the location. In recent
years, Germany overall has become even more attractive as an
investment location. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which has
much in common with its western neighbor, is also profiting
from this development.
With its central location on the important transport artery
Hamburg – Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers a very
appealing business environment for Dutch companies. Significant growth potential can be seen, particularly in the energy,
shipping, transport & logistics, and food sectors. This is one of
the many reasons why we look forward to continuing our
good cooperation with Invest in MV.”

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Presented in Northern Italy
From March 18 to 20, 2014, representatives from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern toured
the Milan metropolitan region and Bologna to promote the investment location in
northeastern Germany, organizing company visits and a conference.
The tour began on March 18th with visits to several companies from the food-technology, packaging, and electrical engineering industries in and around Milan,
accompanied by Dr. Stephan Rudolph, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economics,
Construction, and Tourism Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition, business meetings were held at the University of Bologna with the aim of exploring potential for
R&D cooperation between the important life sciences centers of Northern Italy and
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
As a follow-up to these meetings, an investor conference organized by Invest in MV,
the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK), and DE International Italia took
place on March 19, 2014, also in Bologna. The conference featured presentations
highlighting the locational advantages of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Prof. Horst Klinkmann, MD, Ph.D., Dr.h.c.(mult.) from Rostock, President of BioCon
Valley and Board of Trustees for the Health Economy (Kuratorium Gesundheitswirtschaft) of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, presented the key features of the research landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and outlined various opportunities
for potential investors in the economic region. Since 1992, Prof. Klinkmann has
served as Dean of the International Faculty for Artificial Organs at the University of
Bologna, which enjoys an excellent reputation in the field of medical research and is
considered to be the oldest university in the world. In 2011, the University granted
Prof. Klinkmann an honorary doctorate.
Dieter Gelzer, Managing Director of the Malchin plant of Cargill Deutschland GmbH, outlined the locational advantages of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the food industry. The production facility in Malchin
is the largest pectin plant in Germany.

With these facts in mind, Invest in MV and the German-Turkish Chamber of
Commerce and Industry are organizing an event for Turkish business leaders in
2015 at the summer residence of the German Embassy in Istanbul.
Hoş geldiniz
Business Contacts Between
the Bosporus and the Baltic
Dr. Stefan Rudolph
Since as early as 2013, it has been clear that more and more Turkish companies are
becoming interested in investment in Germany. Therefore, the agency decided to
continue building upon this success in 2014 and designate Turkey as a “Priority
Country” within the context of the ERDF-funded project. Invest in MV worked
with the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Istanbul to plan
further measures aimed at informing Turkish companies about the advantages of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as an investment location.
Emin Doganay, a business leader and recently appointed “economic ambassador”
for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, proved his merit as a representative for the state.
In numerous meetings, he was able to offer valuable support with his knowledge
of the Turkish language and culture, contributing substantially to the generation
of new investment projects. Invest in MV would also like to take this opportunity
to thank Mr. Doganay for his support at the meetings with Turkish companies in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
In January and April of 2014, Invest in MV visited several companies in Istanbul,
accompanied by Vice Minister Dr. Stefan Rudolph. Following these constructive
meetings, arrangements were made for site visits in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In
December 2014, Invest in MV held a roadshow in Izmir and Istanbul and visited the
International Istanbul Plastics Industry Fair “Plast Eurasia.” In total, these activities
generated six new projects from the automotive, plastics, electrical engineering, and
mechanical engineering sectors.
In summary, we have learned that Turkish companies are interested in foreign investment but also require local partners who can help pave the way for them to plan
and implement their investment projects. Direct and personal contacts with Turkish
investors will continue to be essential for building trust and conveying a true impression of the location Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Therefore, a significant presence in the region is of crucial importance, not only for developing and strengthening
relationships, but also for expressing esteem and interest as clearly as possible. Vice Minister of the Ministry of
Economics, Construction, and Tourism
“ ’Made in Germany’ remains a valuable selling point of many
German products, which makes the business location Germany
attractive for foreign investors as well. We market our state successfully worldwide as a top location for business, highlighting
the reputation of the ‘Made in Germany’ label and other locational advantages, such as the professionally qualified workforce,
business-friendly infrastructure, business-oriented science and
research, and our authentically welcoming culture. In this work,
it is important to view and utilize business-recruitment activities
as opportunities to overcome possible prejudices and build trust.
We’re on the right path.”

At the heart of its production portfolio is the manufacture of complex and customized slewing

for this project.
Dobro pozhalovat‘
Russia Day in
Rostock-Warnemünde
Russia plays a vital role in the economic cooperation between the Baltic
Sea States and is also an important strategic partner for MecklenburgVorpommern.
The business conference held on October 1, 2014, was an outstanding success, attracting more than 500 guests. This event focused on the direct
exchange of experiences and information between Russian and German
companies in four industry forums (maritime, logistics, energy/energyengineering, agriculture and food). The conference succeeded in achieving
its aim of keeping the channels of dialog open, even in difficult times.
The Russian investor Kirovsky Zavod JSC is enabling the company Deutsche
Großwälzlager GmbH (DGWL GmbH) to establish a production facility at
Rostock’s “Fishery Port” (Fischereihafen). For the first phase of development, the company will be investing roughly €5 million and creating
22 permanent jobs.
The NEVA Exhibition and Conference for shipbuilding, shipping, and offshore technology was
held in St. Petersburg in September 2013. Invest in MV and Rostock Business coordinated the
exhibitors from our state for the exhibition’s German Pavilion.
Important contacts were also made at a healthcare-sector conference that was organized in
Russia at the same time. State representatives visited the V.A. Almazov Federal Center for
Heart, Blood & Endocrinology. In 2014, a collaboration was established between this Russian
clinic and the Heart and Diabetes Center of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Karlsburg. This collaboration involved the exchange of personnel between the two clinics for training purposes.
Dr. Albrecht Bochow
Representative of the main shareholder of DGWL
“As a young Russian-German industrial company,
we were looking for a suitable location with storage
facilities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for our
slewing-bearing production facility.
With support from the state economic development
agency Invest in MV, we eventually found just what
we were looking for at the Rostock Cargo and Fishery
Port. With convenient and direct links to the Baltic
Sea, we are now able to transport even very heavy
loads and to ship products to our international customers, not only by road, rail, and air, but also by sea.
Thanks to the excellent cooperation between politics,
administration, and economic development, we felt
very much at home in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
from the beginning. The welcoming culture for
investors is impressive indeed.”

Lead Generation in Switzerland 2014
Representatives from the Economic Development Corporation Vorpommern (WFG) and its partners
visited the parallel trade fairs SWISSTECH and PRODEX in Basle/Switzerland to promote the region
of Vorpommern and attract new investment. This trade-fair visit was organized and carried out
in close cooperation with the regional development agency Förder- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft
Uecker-Region mbH and Invest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH.
The state economic development agency co-financed the visit with resources from the European
Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Local economic development agencies from the city of Neubrandenburg and the district of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte were also involved in the planning process.
Further support for the event preparations was
provided by ExperConsult. From mid-June to
December 2014, this consulting company conducted a telemarketing campaign to generate leads
for Invest in MV, exhausting all possible avenues.
As a result, a total of 142 companies in the mechanical engineering, medical technology, food, and
chemical-pharmaceutical industries were personally contacted.
“The Swiss business sector is one of the most important investors in Germany. In 2013, the
capital invested in Germany by Swiss businesses amounted to more than CHF 50 billion.
This investment contributed to the maintenance of nearly 300,000 jobs in Germany. From a
Swiss perspective, it is also worthwhile to look to Northern Germany for possible investment
locations: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a competitive and attractive investment location
with excellent business prospects for companies and investors. The state’s location as a hub
in the economically thriving Baltic Sea region with close links to the metropolitan areas of
Hamburg, Berlin, and Szczecin, the attractive range of available properties including commercial sites located in large-scale business parks or directly adjacent to ports, the excellent
infrastructure, and the qualified and flexible workforce are some of the locational advantages that Swiss companies find attractive. Germany is Switzerland’s most important
trading partner by far. Outstanding locational advantages are an important argument in
strategic planning, especially in the export-oriented Swiss industries, e.g. the chemical,
pharmaceutical, machine, electrical, metal, and food sectors. Furthermore, the beautiful
landscape and pristine nature at the Baltic coast and in the Lake District are important
not only for tourism, but also for the location factor ‘quality of life.’ Therefore, promoting
the business location Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Switzerland in my role as Germany’s
ambassador is not just a duty, but also a pleasure.”

Harry Glawe, was also in attendance. For Invest in MV, this prestigious
event offered an excellent opportunity to present our state in its best light.
An Invest-in-MV Lounge was set up especially for this reception and
attracted numerous interested guests.
On June 9, 2015, Invest in MV was back in
Vienna, this time for the “Roadshow II,” an event
initiated by Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI).
Further trade-fair visits and other events in
Austria have already been planned, including
an investor conference on October 21, 2015, that
is being organized by Invest in MV.

The project has exceeded its targets for the number of initial contacts made
in Japan. Numerous contacts, one project, and various leads were generated.
Furthermore, the project succeeded in informing a large number of Japanese
professionals about the locational advantages of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in
the context of face-to-face meetings at events (trade fairs, forums) and company
visits in Japan.

Project “Japan 2014”
One of the stated aims of Invest in MV is to significantly expand businessrecruitment activities in Asia. This aim is being supported with funds from
the Federal Government and the Ministry of Economics, Construction, and
Tourism Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The project “Japan 2014” was initiated in this context, and Doreen Hanke
was hired as the project manager. The main objective was to gain a thorough
understanding of this fascinating Asian country and make initial contacts.
To this end, Invest in MV made three trips to Japan in 2014, taking part in
leading trade fairs in large Japanese cities and meeting with potential investors. This investor-outreach work was focused on the automotive industry
(incl. energy storage, alternative propulsion systems, storage technologies,
etc.), renewable energies, mechanical engineering, and the plastics industry/
lightweight construction (e.g. carbon fiber production).

“Japan is one of the most technologically advanced countries
in the world and will be playing a prominent role in the most
important industrial issue of the future: ‘Industry 4.0.’ In Japan,
continuity is the prerequisite for lasting business relationships
based on trust. Invest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is laying the
foundation for this continuity by participating actively in our
annual Japan-German Industry Forum (JGIF) in Tokyo. The agency’s presentation on Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s advantages to

Success is Snowballing
for the Industriepark Schwerin:
A Magnet for Companies
In September 2014, Nestlé—the global leader of the food industry—opened Europe’s largest
coffee-capsule plant at the Industriepark Schwerin. Other companies with facilities at this industrial
park include the aerospace supplier FLAMMAEROTEC and the automotive supplier PTS Precision.
Furthermore, the company SAS Schwerin (Schweriner Abfallentsorgungs- und Straßenreinigungsgesellschaft mbH) is currently investing in a modern anaerobic digestion plant for organic wastes
at this site. There’s no question: The Industriepark Schwerin has become a popular location for
national and international companies.

Nestlé Opens Its Largest European Factory in Schwerin
In 2014, after roughly two years of construction, Nestlé opened its new factory at the Industriepark
Schwerin. At an inauguration ceremony on September 5th, Nestlé Europe CEO Laurent Freixe,
Minister President Erwin Sellering, and German Federal Family Minister Manuela Schwesig
pressed the symbolic start button. Also in attendance: Nestlé Deutschland CEO Gerhard
Berssenbrügge, Minister of Economics Harry Glawe, and 200 other guests.

The Sky’s the Limit:
FLAMMAEROTEC Expanding
New in Schwerin:
Hamburg-Based Polyethylene Recycler FVH
Plans to Build at the Industriepark
Last year, the company FVH Folienveredelung Hamburg GmbH &
Co. KG decided to build its new production facility in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. FVH uses HydroDyn recycling
technology, an innovative, patented process that makes it possible to
produce high-quality polyethylene granulates (PE granulates) from
plastic film wastes.
The investment volume for this new facility will total roughly €18.6
million. One factor that contributed to the company’s decision for
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was the effective cooperation between
Invest in MV, the City of Schwerin, and the Ministry of Economics,
which is supporting the project with approx. €6.8 million. In the first
phase of development, 40 new jobs will be created, with more than
100 planned for the long term.
Michael Hofmann
“We have received new orders,” announced Managing Director Lothar Brecht in
August 2014. Word of the company’s expertise had spread to China, where a new
customer was acquired. FLAMMAEROTEC, from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s
state capital, is reaching new heights of success as a widely recognized supplier
to the national and international aerospace industry. Plans have been made to
expand the production facility at the Industriepark Schwerin by 2016. “We currently have 10,000 square meters (108,000 sq. ft.) and plan to add an additional
4,000 to 5,000 (43,000-54,000 sq. ft.),” reported Frieder Flamm, also Managing
Director at FLAMMAEROTEC. Some 70 new jobs will be created, bringing the
total number of employees to 350 by 2016. In the last financial year, the company’s
280 employees generated sales of €43.4 million. The company also plans to offer
additional training positions.

Plastics Specialist Coming to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern:
Topping-Out Ceremony at PROCAP
“Over the coming years, we would like to establish Europe’s largest
recycling center for plastic wastes on the outskirts of the capital city. This
project will require good logistics options, which are provided, above all,
by the convenient location of the Industriepark Schwerin. The industrial
park, located directly on the A24 and A14 autobahns, offers quick and
direct access to major metropolitan areas like Hamburg and Berlin, as
well as Poland. This advantage is very decisive in our industry.”
In late August 2014, the Luxembourg-based plastics specialist PROCAP celebrated
the topping out of its new building at the Industriepark Schwerin. PROCAP’s customers include Nestlé, Unilever, Monsanto, Bayer, BASF, Pfizer, L’Oréal, and Chanel.
A total of €26 million will be invested in the new facility. The Ministry of Economics is supporting the project with approx. €4 million in funds from the Joint
Task Program for the “Promotion of Industry and Trade” (GRW).
In April 2013, PROCAP took over the company Schoeller Cap Systems in the state
capital. Its production lines are being moved to the Industriepark Schwerin. The
company, which currently has 45 employees, will create an additional 17 jobs with
the move.

Well-Connected: TEUFELBERGER Locating to Stralsund
“IDT Biologika GmbH (Riems) has rapidly assumed an
important role in the company IDT as a whole. We are
benefiting greatly from the Riems facility. Our research
work at the site profits from the proximity to the
Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, with whom we have been
cooperating closely in the field of animal health for
many years. In addition, we are taking advantage of
the strong networking in the state’s healthcare industry.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern gave us a warm welcome
from all sides. We are especially pleased with the
support we have received from the government and
the economic development agencies.”
Managing Director, IDT Biologika
The globally active rope manufacturer TEUFELBERGER Holding AG from
Austria plans to invest €38 million in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The
direct access to the Baltic Sea offered a clear advantage for shipping the company’s rope reels, which can weigh several tons. The shipment of these reels
by land is very expensive and requires compliance with strict regulations.
Exceeding Expectations:
IDT Biologika Building Research Center in Riems
The new factory building directly on the Baltic Sea will cover an area of
14,000 square meters (151,000 sq. ft.) and employ 70 people. It is the largest
expansion project in TEUFELBERGER’s 225-year history. The company
plans to finalize construction and launch production by the end of 2016.
The state economic development agency Invest in MV, along with regional
partners, is providing support and assistance for this investment project.
IDT Biologika (Riems) specializes in the field of animal health. When the subsidiary was
first established in 2013, the state government made it clear that it had high expectations for
its activities. The results of the first year are impressive indeed. In 2014, the original number
of jobs was slightly increased. The most visible sign of this positive site development is the
research center that the company began building in the spring of 2015. A total of €10 million
is being invested in this new facility. The groundbreaking ceremony on May 26, 2015, was
attended by German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and other prominent guests.

Sensational Motivation:
Prolupin Researchers Win 2014 Deutscher Zukunftspreis
On November 19, 2014, the Fraunhofer researchers Dr. Peter Eisner and Dr. Stephanie Mittermaier, together
with Prolupin’s founder, Katrin Petersen, were awarded the 18th Deutscher Zukunftspreis. German Federal
President Joachim Gauck presents this award to honor exceptional achievements in the areas of technology,
engineering, and the natural sciences that lead to market-ready products. It is endowed with €250,000 in prize
money. Oliver Gollnick, Managing Director of Prolupin GmbH, viewed the award of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis as recognition of the company’s valuable work and a source of motivation for the whole team.
As a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV, Prolupin GmbH
produces pure plant proteins in Grimmen. Since 2011, the supermarket chain EDEKA in southern Bavaria has
been selling various Prolupin products under the brand name “Lupinesse.”
Kick-Start:
Deutsche Ölwerke Lubmin Expanding Capacities
In 2013, Deutsche Ölwerke Lubmin GmbH opened a new
production facility on the grounds of a decommissioned
power station. Since then, demand has increased for the
company’s motor oils, which it produces for cars and trucks,
including customers on the Formula 1 racing series. In October 2014, the company announced its plans to ramp up
production capacity to meet the growing demand.
Deutsche Ölwerke Lubmin has since invested €1.2 million
in three new filling lines for the factory and another €2.5
million in 20 additional oil-storage tanks. The construction
of a new production facility is also planned. By March 2015,
the company’s 40 employees had gained 15 new colleagues.

Topping-Out Ceremony for Lenzen-MillTech in Grevesmühlen
On September 19, 2014, Lenzen-MillTech GmbH & Co. KG celebrated the topping out of its new
building in the Business Park Northwest, Grevesmühlen. The recycling specialist from Rosbach has
been operating successfully in the field of materials recovery for more than 60 years. Owing to its
continued success, MillTech required additional production space. The Grevesmühlen site will be
the company’s first branch facility in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A total of 18 permanent jobs will
be created. Support and assistance for this investment project was provided by the Federal State
Institute for Public Funding (LFI), MBG Schwerin, the HCM Group Schleswig Holstein, and the
state economic development agency Invest in MV.

Berendsohn Expanding in Brüsewitz
Berendsohn AG, one of the leading European companies in the promotional products market, is
expanding its facility in Brüsewitz by adding almost 3,000 square meters (32,300 sq. ft.) of production and storage space. On February 14, 2014, a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony was held,
followed by a guided tour of the plant. In attendance were the CEO of Berendsohn AG, Jörn Lambertz, and the Minister of Economics, Construction, and Tourism of the State of MecklenburgVorpommern, Harry Glawe. A total of approx. €2.75 million will be invested. The Ministry of
Economics supported the project with €399,500 in funds from the Joint Task Program for the
“Promotion of Industry and Trade” (GRW).
Construction Begins in Dassow:
New Pharmaceutical Plant for AqVida
On October 22, 2014, the Hamburg-based pharmaceutical company AqVida celebrated the start of construction on its new production facility in the Holmer
Berg business park in Dassow. The Minister of Economics of MecklenburgVorpommern, Harry Glawe, joined investors in turning the first shovelfuls of earth
in the presence of guests from industry and politics. In 2016, the new facility will
begin producing medicines, with an emphasis on cancer treatments. The Dassow
site will be AqVida’s first production facility in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A
total of 25 permanent jobs are being created locally. Invest in MV is also providing
support and guidance for this investment project. Wolfgang Heinze
Managing Director, AqVida GmbH
“Bucking the global trend of moving production to low-wage
countries, we are building a plant in Dassow for the production
of anti-cancer medicines – ‘Made in Germany.’ The complexity
of the project requires close cooperation with the government
agencies, and we are very satisfied with the strong support
we have received from all sides. As they say, ‘MecklenburgVorpommern is good for you.’ ”

News from Neustadt-Glewe: AcryliCon GmbH Opens Production Facility
AcryliCon Polymers GmbH manufactures synthetic resins –
so-called polymers – primarily for the construction sector and
for use with industrial flooring. Invest in MV provided support
and guidance for this new investment project in 2014, which was
partially the result of a visit that Minister of Economics Harry
Glawe made to Switzerland in November of 2012.
A total of €9.5 million will be invested in the Neustadt-Glewe facility. The Ministry of Economics of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
is supporting the project with approx. €3.6 million. The production and storage facilities will cover roughly 4,000 square meters
(43,000 sq. ft.); an additional 1,800 square meters (19,400 sq. ft.)
are available for laboratories and administration.

On August 5, 2014, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new folding
box plant being built by Schur Pack at the Business Park A24 with a floor area
of approx. 28,000 square meters (301,000 sq. ft.). The company will also be
investing in new production equipment, including sheetfed offset presses, automatic punching machines, and folder gluers. With this investment project,
production will be moved from Büchen to Valluhn.
A total of nearly €69 million will be invested by the 165-year-old internationally
successful company. The Ministry of Economics is supporting the project with
nearly €17 million in funds from the Joint Task Program for the “Promotion of
Industry and Trade” (GRW).
Schur Pack Germany GmbH
“We decided for the Business Park A24 because it offers outstanding
conditions for our company. The convenient location right on the
autobahn between Berlin and Hamburg plays an important role, as
does the availability of additional space that can be used for future
expansion. A committed workforce is available to serve the needs of
our company and contribute to its economic success. Another factor in
our decision for this location was the competent advice and practical
assistance we received from the Southwest Mecklenburg Business
Development Corporation. Any questions that arose throughout
the entire planning and implementation process were promptly
answered. And, lastly, our product portfolio fits nicely into the region’s
value chain.”

Each year, Invest in MV makes regular visits to trade fairs in Germany and abroad and organizes investor
conferences, business meetings, and informational tours. These activities are integral to the promotion of
economic development in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On these trips, Invest in MV presents the state as a
business location, keeps abreast of the latest trends, recruits investors, establishes new contacts, and
strengthens existing relationships. The calendar of events in 2014 included the Business Dinner in Hamburg,
the EXPO REAL in Munich, and the JEC Composites Europe in Paris.

The program in April included visits to the Institute for Community Medicine at the University Medicine Greifswald, the BioTechnikum, and Europe’s largest non-university institute in the field of
low-temperature plasmas, the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science
and Technology (INP Greifswald). Also on the schedule was a panel
discussion on the subject of biomaterials at the Chamber of Industry
and Commerce Rostock and visits to both the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rostock in Warnemünde and
the annual event of the BioCon Valley Initiative in Neubrandenburg.
Business Dinner in Hamburg
The proximity to Hamburg plays an important role in the promotion of
economic development in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – partially due to
the fact that the western parts of the state have been part of the Hamburg
Metropolitan Region since May 1, 2012. The promotion of networking
and regional infrastructure, cross-border projects with MecklenburgVorpommern, and joint location-marketing activities are also gaining
importance for expanding companies from Hamburg.
On October 28, 2014, the Minister of Economics, Construction, and Tourism, Harry Glawe, gave a presentation at the Business Club Hamburg,
promoting the business location Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to an audience of more than 100 business leaders, political figures, and government officials. Under the motto “Working Together to Move Markets,”
participants were informed about the strengthening of cooperation
between the two states.
The event was organized by the state economic development agency
Invest in MV with a special focus on the food industry. Since 1990, the
Ministry of Economics has supported more than 422 food-industry
projects with a total of €448 million in the context of the common task
“Improvement of Regional Economic Structure” (GRW) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This support has triggered
investments totaling €2.6 billion.
BioCon Valley Meets Medical Valley
On April 3 and 4, 2014, experts from the medical-technology cluster Medical Valley of Middle
Franconia (Bavaria) visited various companies and research institutes from the life sciences
sector in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on a tour organized by Invest in MV. Under the motto
“Promising Opportunities for Operating and Investing,” the hosts and their guests discussed
mutual opportunities for the two regions in these fields and explored the potential for northsouth cooperation between companies in the sector.
Prior to this informational tour, experts from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern had visited the
medical-technology cluster in Erlangen. The project was organized by Invest in MV GmbH with
support from the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry users’ club “Medicine and
Healthcare,” the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Rostock, and the network BioCon Valley.

“In the context of the ERDF-funded project ‘technology
trends’ aimed at expanding our location-marking
activities, we would like to strengthen the positioning
of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a location for

segments in the life sciences industry that could profit
from increased location marketing, particularly from
outreach activities in Southern Germany.”

Energy Storage Technology
as a Location Factor
Numerous companies require enormous amounts of energy for their production processes. These energy requirements are associated with enormous costs. Therefore, reductions in electricity costs are essential for enabling companies to grow and remain competitive in the global market.
With these issues in mind, Invest in MV organized the colloquium “Energy Storage Technology as a Location Factor” on September 16, 2014, at the Schleswig-Holstein House in
Schwerin. At the presentations given by Stefan Krakowka from the Federal Office for
Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) and Dr. Ulrich Bünger from the company
Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik GmbH, company representatives had the opportunity to
discuss how new technologies “made in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” can help save and/
or store energy.
From October 6 to 8, 2014, Rostock Business, together with 14 partners, attended
the EXPO REAL in Munich for the 11th time, presenting the city as a premium
location for business and real estate to the international visitors. Their promotional
campaign focused on the coveted locations and properties on the Baltic Sea in close
proximity to ports. Every year, a presentation entitled “Best of Northern Germany: Investieren am Wasser” is prepared in cooperation with the municipalities of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and used in discussions and meetings at the trade fair.
The presentation showcases exclusive development projects from the entire state.
For many years now, the state economic development agency Invest in MV GmbH
has been partnering with Rostock Business, the economic development agency of
the Hanseatic City of Rostock, in the organization of this trade-fair visit.
BioFach
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was represented by Invest in MV GmbH and others
at the world’s leading trade fair for organic food from February 12 to 15, 2014, in
Nuremberg. On behalf of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the association
Agrarmarketing Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e. V. (AMV) organized and staffed
a joint stand with a maritime theme. Over an area of 228 square meters (2,450
sq. ft.), eleven exhibitors from the state presented their products and know-how
to the professionals attending the trade fair. In the cooking studio of the state’s
own “MV Lounge,” regional dishes were freshly prepared using organic products
from the exhibitors. With an annual turnover of approx. €4 billion, the food
industry is one of the supporting pillars of our state’s economy.

Health Ingredients Europe
International
The Health Ingredients Europe exhibition has established itself within a niche
of the food industry. The world’s leading health and natural food ingredients
event, which is held every two years at various locations, attracts roughly 450
exhibitors and 8,000 visitors. A team from Invest in MV attended last year’s
event in Amsterdam from December 2 to 4, 2014. Their mission was to meet
with potential investors and exchange experiences. From numerous successful
meetings and discussions, six new leads were generated.
SIAL
SIAL, the world’s largest food exhibition, takes place every two years in Paris,
alternating with the Anuga in Cologne. From October 16 to 20, 2014, more than
155,000 visitors from 194 countries were counted in the Parisian exhibition halls,
among them high-ranking politicians and company representatives. Invest in MV
took advantage of this excellent opportunity to meet with companies from the food
industry and present Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a business location. Three leads
were generated through contacts with interested investors.
JEC Composites Europe
Seafood Expo Global
In 2014, Invest in MV made its third visit to the Seafood Expo Global in Brussels.
This event is the world’s largest seafood trade fair and has been increasing in
size every year. From May 6 to 8, 2014, it attracted nearly 26,000 visitors from
150 different countries. A team from Invest in MV attended the trade fair to
learn about the latest trends, products, and services of the industry and actively
present Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as an investment location. This visit generated four leads and two new projects.
From March 11 to 13, 2014, representatives of Invest in MV GmbH attended the
JEC Composites Europe in Paris for the second time in the context of the ERDF
project. At the event, the team from Invest in MV took part in a total of ten
prearranged meetings. From these meetings, three new leads were generated.
Most companies use the JEC Composites Europe as an opportunity for winning
new orders. This event is also one of the world’s leading trade fairs of the composites industry, which has experienced a surge in demand from the current
policies aimed at achieving energy efficiency objectives. Furthermore, composite
materials are still not linked to a well-established, traditional network of suppliers with their downstream services.

Meeting Places for Guests
from Industry and Politics
In 2014, the traditional Invest in MV Summer Reception once again brought together politicians, business
leaders, and economic development professionals for chats and a barbecue in the garden of our agency on
Schlossgartenallee in Schwerin. Many of the guests who attended the reception met again just a few weeks
later at the Hanse Sail in Rostock, where Invest in MV hosted a high-caliber, international business meeting.

Summer Reception of the State Economic Development Agency
Invest in MV
On May 27, 2014, representatives from companies, economic development
agencies, and politics met for lively conversation and debate at the traditional Invest in MV Summer Reception under the motto “More Location
Marketing for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.”
The patron of the evening event was the Minister of Economics, Construction, and Tourism of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Harry Glawe.
During a “beach chair talk,” Minister Glawe, PROCAP GmbH Managing
Director Harry Briese, and former Nestlé Deutschland AG Executive Board
Member Michael Ulrich discussed growth opportunities and recent successes in attracting new businesses to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Another highlight of the event was the announcement of several new economic ambassadors for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including Emin
Doganay, Managing Director of Insel Groß-Einzelhandel, Gerd Warchol,
Managing Director of MAPLAN GmbH, and Jörg Sinnig, CEO of SIV.AG.
Initiated by the Ministry of Economics, this program calls upon respected
members of the business community to serve as active intermediaries between companies and economic development agencies, promoting investment through personal contacts.
In the context of this project, a total of 66 business leaders and other wellknown figures have been awarded the title of “economic ambassador.”
Host Michael Sturm, Managing Director of Invest in MV GmbH, and journalist Thomas Böhm shared the role of master of ceremonies. The reception was
followed by a “get together” with a barbecue in the garden of Invest in MV.

Drop Anchor at “Business meets Hanse Sail”
From August 8 to 9, 2014, more than 400 eminent guests from business, science, and
politics attended the event “Business meets Hanse Sail” in the Hanseatic city of Rostock.
This well-known business-promotion and networking event is hosted by the economic
development agency Rostock Business, the state economic development agency Invest
in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH, and the project group Landesmarketing MV.
Against the maritime backdrop of Warnemünde, guests enjoyed a unique program
of activities with opportunities for establishing valuable national and international
business contacts. The two-day “Business meets Hanse Sail” event included an evening reception, Sail Brunch, sightseeing program, and sailing cruise, offering excellent
networking opportunities, time for in-depth discussions, interesting presentations on
current topics, and space for sharing new ideas.
Keeping with tradition, the 11th annual event was kicked off with a reception hosted by
the Mayor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, Roland Methling, on August 8th.
On the morning of August 9th, the Sail Brunch at the yachting and spa resort Hohe
Düne offered participants insights into the strategies of leading companies. A panel
discussion was moderated by Erwin Sellering, Minister President of the State of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with successful business leaders and managers. The topic
was “A Discussion with the Minister President: Movers of Markets – How Leading Companies Stay Ahead of the Competition.”
The panel included Dr. Bertram Kandziora, CEO of
STIHL AG in Waiblingen, Manuela Muschter, Managing Director of folian gmbh in Groß Lüdershagen
(Stralsund), Detlef Borghardt, CEO of the SAF-HOLLAND Group in Bessenbach, and Cathrin Wilhelm,
Managing Director of FORUS GmbH in Waren (Müritz). Invest in MV GmbH once again had the opportunity to invite guests for a cruise with the Minister
President on the “Artemis.” The closing highlight was
an evening cruise on the tall ship “Kruzenshtern”
with a fireworks finale.

Meeting of the State Economic
Development Agencies in Rostock
On May 8, 2014, representatives of the economic development agencies of
all 16 federal states met in Rostock for their traditional spring meeting. It
was the first time in eight years that the meeting was held in MecklenburgVorpommern. Invest in MV organized the event.
The “Consortium of State Economic Development Agencies” (AG WFB) serves
as a central point of contact for the federal government. Its objectives and
tasks also include the organization of regular meetings, presentations, and
trade-fair participation. The AG WFB meets twice a year at various locations.
From June 2 to 3, 2014, representatives of the economic development agencies of the state of MecklenburgVorpommern met to share experiences in Dömitz at a
meeting hosted by Invest in MV. The program included presentations about new projects and activities, discussions with Minister of Economics Harry Glawe, and
visits to local companies.
Svea Schünemann, Head of Division at the Ministry of
Labor, Equality, and Social Affairs, spoke about the promotion of vocational training. Detlef Schubert, former
head of Leipzig’s Economic Development Office (and retired State Secretary of Saxony-Anhalt), explained how
the city of Leipzig successfully attracted BMW. Robert
Fankhauser, Managing Director of the Federal State Institute for Public Funding (LFI) Mecklenburg-Vorpommern,
presented a status report, and Berit Steinberg, Managing
Director of the Southwest Mecklenburg Business Development Corporation, discussed marketing activities and her
agency’s ideas for attracting and securing skilled staff.
Invest in MV was also in attendance, represented by Deputy Managing Director Waldemar Hoppe and Team
Leaders Ursula Goldacker and Ulf Riedel, with the aim
of developing proposals for a possible continuation of
the ERDF projects 2015 – 2020.
New Cooperation in the State

The Food Academy
On November 10, 2014, five companies from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s traditionally strong food industry joined together
in founding the organization Food Academy e. V. The founding members are Dr. Oetker in Wittenburg, Nestlé’s factory in
Schwerin, riha WeserGold in Dodow, SternMaid in Wittenburg, and the affiliated companies Sweet Tec and Toffee Tec in
Boizenburg. Through the Food Academy, member companies will share responsibility for training their employees and for
attracting and securing skilled staff for their industry.

“In 2014, we once again achieved a significant increase in the number of letters, telephone calls, and emails
(direct outreach) to potential investors. From the large number of activities, 44 percent more leads were
generated than in the previous year. We would like to continue this growth in 2015 and strive to further
expand our business-recruitment efforts. Therefore, several visits to trade fairs and other events have already
been planned for 2015. These activities enable us to successfully position ourselves and give investors insight
into the investment location Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.”

Invest in MV Proudly Presents Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Last year, Invest in MV successfully organized and implemented numerous
projects and activities aimed at promoting Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in a
wide range of contexts and media. These projects included online activities,
social media channels, radio commercials, reports, promotional films, flyers,
advertorials, advertisements, press conferences, and even a press visit. Trade
journalists visited Northern Germany in the context of a press trip organized
by Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), the foreign trade and inward investment
agency of the Federal Republic of Germany.
On September 24 and 25, 2014, five reporters from the US, Canada, and England, together with Team Leader Ulf Riedel and PR & Marketing Consultant
Claudia Neufert, visited several companies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The
visit was focused on the energy sector and renewable energies. Germany’s internationally acclaimed “energy revolution” is already in full swing in MecklenburgVorpommern, thanks to the fresh Baltic Sea wind and abundance of sunlight
(more than any other German state). This fact did not go unnoticed by our overseas
guests, who were very interested in the offshore wind farm Baltic 1, with its 21 wind
turbines.
On September 24th, the visiting journalists set off from Barhöft in a catamaran
from OPUS MARINE GmbH in order to experience these “engineering masterpieces” up close. Once back on land, the group traveled on to the WIND-Project
GmbH (WIND-projekt Ingenieur- und Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH)
in Altentreptow, to learn about the demonstration and innovation project RH2 –
The program for the morning of September 25th included a visit to the Stralsund-based company ESG, which is part of the GICON Group and specializes in
environmentally friendly innovations in the processing of steel and other metals.
Later that day, the guests made a short trip to Sassnitz to visit the ferry port
before traveling on to Berlin.
All in all, these two days were an excellent opportunity to present MecklenburgVorpommern to foreign journalists in the best possible way and to continue
building upon our state’s worldwide reputation as an innovative and environmentally conscious location for business and particularly the energy sector.
A photo showing the construction of an RH2 – WKA from Altentreptow was
even featured on the cover of the magazine North American Clean Energy, which
boasts a hard-copy circulation of 32,000.
Immediately following this press visit, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was mentioned a total of 26 times in print media, podcasts, videos for blogs, YouTube videos, and online publications as a key location for business and the energy sector.

Furthermore, numerous events with networks and regional economic development agencies were also covered
by the media. Many of these events are presented in this Annual Report.
The planning and implementation of advertising campaigns were also part of the marketing mix in 2014. To
mention just one example, Invest in MV managed an entire campaign for the food industry, covering four
magazines and their online editions. Ads were placed from 2012 to June 2015, above all for trade fairs like
BIOFACH and Anuga. The campaign also included articles in food-industry publications, prepared in close
consultation with the respective editors.

ie Hansestadt Rostock ist mit
mehr als 203.000 Einwohnern
die einzige Großstadt in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und zugleich wirtschaftliches Zentrum des
Landes. Über Traditionen und aktuelle
Trends sprachen wir mit Oberbürgermeister Roland Methling.
Frage: Was charakterisiert Rostock als
wirtschaftliches Schwergewicht?
gut ans Hinterland angebunden.

bieten Start-ups beste Bedingungen,

Furthermore, video reports of the Business Dinner in Hamburg and
the festive reception in Vienna were prepared and posted on YouTube.
Promotional films were also made and uploaded to this Internet channel. Invest in MV used radio spots to promote the business location
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in general and to publicize the Hamburg
Business Dinner. The commercials were aired on the station Klassik
Radio in the spring and fall of 2014.

The high-caliber German “Congress of Global Market Leaders” (Gipfeltreffen der Weltmarktführer) is an
outstanding platform for attracting new investors. In the context of the Congress, Invest in MV organized
a business lunch. Future business-recruitment activities will focus on Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy.

Meeting of Global Market Leaders
in Germany
The annual “Congress of Global Market Leaders” has become one of the most important
meetings of international market leaders from the German “Mittelstand” (SMEs). In addition to presentations and panel discussions, this event offers numerous opportunities
for making contact with global players and successful family-owned companies. In the
context of the Congress, Invest in MV organized a business lunch on January 28, 2015.
This event was attended by eminent managing directors, board members, and owners
of companies that were looking to expand and considering Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
as a business location.
Visit to
EWEA OFFSHORE
in Denmark
In recent years, the world’s largest offshore wind energy conference and exhibition EWEA OFFSHORE has been attracting
more than 450 exhibitors and around 10,000 visitors. As both a
show and a marketplace, the EWEA OFFSHORE offers an ideal
forum for making new business contacts and strengthening
existing relationships. The prestigious event is held annually at
various locations in Europe. From March 10 to 12, 2015, Invest
in MV attended the European Wind Energy Association event in
Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen.

in Switzerland
Switzerland is one of the largest foreign investors in
Germany. At the same time, Switzerland is also a popular investment destination for German companies.
Due to current developments, production sites in the
Eurozone are becoming more and more attractive. This
is where the new federal project comes into play. In 2015
and 2016, Invest in MV will be making contact with an
increasing number of Swiss investors. This outreach will
be conducted in the form of self-organized events, like
the Business Dinner on June 18, 2015, in Berne, various
business “round tables,” and visits to trade fairs and
forums in Switzerland. A direct outreach campaign will
run throughout the entire project period. Furthermore,
advertisements will be placed in Swiss newspapers. A
new project-related staff position will also be created.
Visit to the
Ferrari Town, Maranello
During the theme week for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at
the universal exhibition Expo Milano 2015, Invest in MV presented the
business location Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Italy on May 21 and 22,
2015, with a special focus on the automotive industry. In cooperation with
the organization automotive-mv e. V. and the Italian Chamber of Commerce,
a conference was organized in the automobile cluster “Motor Valley” for the
region of Emilia-Romagna. Minister of Economics Harry Glawe delivered
an opening speech. This event was also used as an opportunity to promote
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as an attractive business location for international investors. The investor conference took place on May 21, 2015, in the
hometown of Ferrari, Maranello (province of Modena).
Owing to Germany’s thriving economy, Danish companies are generally very interested in Germany as a business location. Germany is Denmark’s most important
trading partner. A successful market entry in Germany is often the first step in a
company’s internationalization process. To realize the full value of their growth
strategies, Nordic companies must therefore proactively seize opportunities in the
German market. Invest in MV is planning an investor seminar in Denmark with the
aim of promoting Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as an investment location. The event
will take place in September 2015 in Aarhus.

Project terminology:
The term contact refers to an initial exploratory talk
with an interested company representative in the context
of preparing for a trade-fair visit or event. During the
contact phase, the company is not expected to make any
commitment regarding a possible investment project in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
A lead goes beyond this initial contact. An initial meeting has already taken
place at a trade fair or event. The potential investor is considering MecklenburgVorpommern as a possible business location. General and/or industry-specific
site information has been provided in person or sent to the company following
the visit. The potential investor still cannot – or prefers not to – describe the
possible investment project in greater detail.
In the case of a project, a project description, business requirement specification, or business plan is submitted by the potential investor. On the basis of
these documents, a list of appropriate sites is prepared in accordance with the
site criteria specified by the company. Site visits and meetings are organized
and conducted individually (site, employment agency, ministries, government
agencies, etc.).
