AGRIGENTE ET LA VALLÉE DES TEMPLES - A 6 km
de Porto Empédocle est l’une des destinations les
plus exaltantes des itinéraires touristiques internationaux,
en raison de son intérêt historique et archéologique. La ville
moderne est située sur la colline, ancienne résidence Arabe,
dominant la fameuse “Vallée” dont la splendeur évoque la civilisation grecque et la superbe puissance de l’ancienne Akragas (582 av. J.C.). Patrie du philosophe Empédocle et de Luigi
Pirandello, dont les cendres sont conservées au “Caos“ près de
la maison natale de l’écrivain, aujourd’hui monument national,
la ville est la siège du Musée Archéologique National qui jouit
d’une renommée internationale pour la rareté de ses “Pièces”.

AGRIGENT UND DAS TAL DER TEMPEL – Ist 6 km von Porto Empedocle entfernt und
dank seiner historischen und archäologischen Bedeutung eines der interessantesten Ziele
internationaler Reiseführer. Die heutige Siedlung zu dessen Füßen das berühmte “ Tal der Tempel” mit der Pracht seiner Ruinen an die griechische Stadt Akragas (582 v.Chr.) erinnert. Agrigent
war die Heimat des Philosophen Empedocles und des Schriftstellers Luigi Pirandello, der in der
Nähe seines Geburtshauses, heute eine nationale Gedenkstätte, begraben ist. Die Stadt beherbergt das staatliche archäologische Museum, das wegen der Außergewöhnlichkeit seiner Funde
von weltweitem Interesse ist.
ERACLEA MINOA - Située à 20 minutes en voiture de Porto Empédocle, elle se dresse sur
un promontoire surplombant la mer. L’ancienne ville, dont il ne nous reste que quelques
ruines, fut fondée au début du VI siècle av. J.C. par les Mégariens de Selinunte; elle fut souvent un
champ de bataille et soumise à de différentes dominations. Les fouilles ont mis au jour une partie
des murailles, des maisons et, au sommet de la colline, un théâtre du III siècle av. J.C. . Plus en
bas, la plage qui s’étend pour plusieurs kilomètres, à laquelle l’on accède en traversant une forêt
de pins, ce qui rend cet endroit très suggestif et unique.

AGRIGENTO AND THE VALLEY OF
THE TEMPLES – A 6 km from Porto
Empedocle it is amongst the most exalting
international touristic itineraries due to its
historical-archaeological interest.. The city
today is situated on the hill, ancient residence of the Arabs, on whose feet, lays the
famous “Valley” rich of well preserved vestiges which reminds the old splendor of the
Greek Akragas (582 B.C.). In the surroundings one can visit the house, to day National Monument, where the great dramaturge “Nobel Price”
awarded Luigi Pirandello was born and where his funerary cinders are cherished. Agrigento is
the native land of the Philosopher Empedocle and site of a national Archaeological Museum of
considerable interest for the exceptional pieces of its collection.
ERACLEA MINOA
Erhebt sich auf einem Vorgebirge, das sich
zum Meer hin senkt, und
ist 20 Autominuten von
Porto Empedocle entfernt. Diese Stadt wurde im
6.Jh.v.Chr. von den “Megaresi” aus Selinunte gegründet, die Mauerreste sind noch erhalten. Sie
war oft Schauplatz großer Schlachten und erduldete verschiedene Herrschaffen. Die Ausgrabungen haben, einen Teil der Wände, die alten Häuser und das Theater des dritten Jahrhunderts zu
beleuchten. v.Chr. an der Spitze des Hügels. Der Strand erstreckt sich über mehrere abwechslungsreiche Kilometer, hinter einem dichten Pinienwald, der ihm besonders schönes und romantische Aussehen verleiht.

AGRIGENTO E LA VALLE DEI TEMPLI – A 6 Km da Porto Empedocle costituisce una tra
le più esaltanti mete degli itinerari turistici internazionali, per l’interesse storico-archeologico. L’odierno abitato sorge, sulla collina, antica residenza Araba, ai cui piedi la famosa “Valle”
ricorda con lo splendore delle sue vestigia la Greca Akragas (582 a.C.). Patria del filosofo Empedocle e del grande drammaturgo Luigi Pirandello, le cui ceneri sono custodite al “Caos” nei pressi
della casa natale, oggi monumento nazionale, la città è sede del Museo Archeologico Nazionale
che per l’eccezionalità dei reperti viene considerato d’interesse mondiale.
ERACLEA MINOA - From Porto Empedocle it takes less than one hour of automobile to
reach Minoa situated on a cliff falling straight down to the sea. This very ancient town of
which only ruines remain, was founded at the start of the sixth century b. C., by the Megarians of
Selinunte; many battles were fought in that territory and was subjected to various dominations.
The excavations of the ruins have brought to light part of the walls of the city together with
dwelling constructions and on the upper side of the hill a theatre of the 3rd century B.C.; the beach which it extends along
the shores for several miles protected by a thick
pinewood, it makes of
this locality a beautiful
seducing view not to be
neglected.

ERACLEA MINOA - Distante 20 minuti d’auto da Porto Empedocle, sorge su un promontorio a strapiombo sul mare. Questa città, di cui rimangono le rovine, fu fondata agli inizi
del VI sec. a.C. dai Megaresi di Selinunte; fu spesso sede di battaglie e subì vari domini. Gli scavi
hanno portato alla luce parte della cinta muraria, edifici abitativi e, sulla parte alta del colle, un
teatro del III sec. a.C. La spiaggia sottostante, che si snoda lungo il litorale per svariati Km, a ridosso di una rigogliosa pineta, rende questa località tra le più belle e suggestive.

PORTO EMPEDOCLE – Importante centro portuale
della costa sud-occidentale della Sicilia, fu anticamente Borgo Marinaro legato alle esigenze economiche
della vicina Agrigento, dalla quale si affrancava ufficialmente nel 1863, mutando l’antico nome di “Molo di Girgenti” in quello attuale e costituendosi in Comune autonomo. La vita della città è relativamente giovane; sorge nel XV
secolo come “Caricatore” della antica Girgenti e la florida e
febbrile attività del traffici commerciali finirono per farne
un centro di affari accreditato. Nel 1554, per il perdurare
delle incursioni predatorie barbaresche, la Corona di Spagna fece erigere una “Torre di guardia” a difesa del borgo contro le navi dei Turchi.
Attorno a questa torre detta di “Carlo V” ed al primo braccio portuale, la cui prima
gettata risale al 1749, si è sviluppata l’odierna Porto Empedocle. La “Torre di Carlo V”
è oggi monumento principale, simbolo e memoria storica della città e centro delle
attività culturali. Il territorio Empedoclino gode di un litorale di oltre 4 Km di ampia e
bella spiaggia, dalla sabbia dorata, a ridosso di
un caratteristico costone di marna bianca che
fa del sito una delle più
suggestive e rinomate
località balneari. È anche
la terra natale degli illustri scrittori Luigi Pirandello, premio Nobel per
la letteratura e Andrea
Camilleri, autore delle
storie del Commissario
Montalbano.
PORTO EMPEDOCLE – Important seaport along the
south west coast of Sicily, in the past a small village facing the blue Mediterranean sea, economically bound to the
near city of Agrigento, but officially franchisee in the year 1863,
changing the old de nomination of “Molo di Girgenti” in the
actual, obtaining the right of autonomous municipality. The
town is thus very young; it raises in the 15th century as “Port
of shipment of the goods”of the old “Girgenti” and florid and
incessant activity it made of the site a very important business
center accredited. In the year 1554 , due to the constant raids
perpetrated by barbarians, the Crown of Spain provided the
villagers with the construction of a tower as a guarding against attacks of
Turkish ships. Around the tower called “Torre di Carlo V” (tower of Charles the 5th )
and close to the first seawall, whose first throwing dates back in the year 1749, has
developed the Porto Empedocle of present time. The tower of “Carlo V” today is the
main monument of the town and stands as a symbol of the town’s history, it is now
considered the central point of cultural activities. It is also homeland of eminent writers Louis Pirandello, Nobel Prize for literature and author Andrea Camilleri Inspector
Montalbano stories.
PORTO EMPEDOCLE – Wichtig Hafenzentrum der Südküste Siziliens, war einst ein Seeort, durch die wirtschaftlichen Bedürfnisse verbunden mit der nahegelegenen Stadt Agrigent,
von de es sich offiziell 1863 trennte, dabei seinen
alten Namen “Molo di Girgenti” in das heutige
“Porto Empedocle” umwandelte und sich als autonome Stadt konstituiert. Porto Empedocle ist
eine Junge Stadt: Es erblüht im 15, Jh. Als Landeplatz der antiken Stadt “Girgenti” und sein re-
ger Handelsverkehr verwandelt es bald zu einem wichtigen
Wirtschftszentrum.1554 ließ der spanische König wegen der
dauernden Pirateneinfälle zur Verteidigung des Ortes gegen
die Schiffe der türkischen Piraten die “Wachturm” errichten.
Rund um diesen Turm, genannt “Charles V” und der Handelshafen von 1749, hat es heute Porto Empedocles entwickelt.
Der “Turm Karls V” ist heute eine Hauptsehenswürdigkeit,
Symbol und Erinnerung an die Geschichte der Stadt und zugleich Zentrum kultureller Veranstaltungen. Das gebiet von
Porto Empedocle besitzt einen Küstenstrich mit einem über
4 Meilen langen weiten und schönen Strand mit goldenem
Sand und im Hinterland eine charakteristische Erhöhung aus
weißem Stein, die Küste zu einem der romantischsten un
berühmtesten Badeorte macht. Wurden hier geboren auch
die aufstrebenden Schriftsteller Luigi Pirandello, Nobelpreis für Literatur und Andrea
Camilleri, berühmten Autor von Kriminalromanen im Kommissar Montalbano.
PORTO EMPEDOCLE – Important centre portuaire de la côte sud-ouest de la
Sicile, ne fut, jusqu’à 1863, qu’une bourgade maritime liée aux exigences économiques de la voisine Agrigento. Après cette date elle se
constitue en Commune autonome en
changeant son ancien nom de “Molo
di Girgenti” (Débarcadère d’Agrigento)
en Porto Empedocle.
La vie de la ville est
relativement jeune:
bâtie au XV siècle
comme quai de chargement de l’ancienne
Agrigento, elle devint bientôt un port de commerce très important, grâce à un intense et
prospère trafic de marchandises. En 1554, à
cause de la persistance des incursions des pillards barbaresques, la Monarchie Espagnole
fit bâtir une “tour de guet” pour défendre la
bourgade. Tout autour de cette construction et
près du débarcadère, dont les premiers piliers
furent élevés en 1749, se développa, au fil des
années, l’actuelle Porto Empedocle. L’ancienne
“tour de guet”, appelée “Tour de Charles V” est
aujourd’hui le monument les plus important,
symbole et mémoire historique ainsi que centre des activités culturelles de la ville. C’est aussi
la patrie d’écrivains célèbres que Luigi Pirandello, prix Nobel de littérature, et Andrea
Camilleri, auteur des histoires de Commissaire Montalbano.
SCALA DEI TURCHI – Costabianca è chiamato il litorale di
questa località per le sue caratteristiche geologiche. Un
abbagliante costone di marna bianca fa da cornice all’azzurro
limpido del mare: è la “Scala dei Turchi” antico approdo delle
navi barbaresche, che si trova ad un paio di Km da Porto Empedocle e che oggi costituisce per i bagnanti un’oasi di naturale ed
incontaminata bellezza.
SCALA DEI TURCHI – Costabianca is called the coast of
this town for its geological features. A dazzling white marl
ridge framed by clear blue sea, is the “Turkish’s ladder” ancient
landing of Barbary ships, which is located a few miles from Porto
Empedocles and that today is a haven for swimmers of natural
and unspoiled beauty.
SCALA DEI TURCHI – Costabianca heißt der Küste dieser
Stadt für seine geologischen Besonderheiten. Ein blendend weißen
Mergel Grat von klaren,
blauen Meer umrahmt,
ist der “Stiege der Türken” alten Landung von
Barbaren Schiffe, die nur
wenige Kilometer von
Porto Empedocle befindet
und heute ist ein Paradies
für Schwimmer natürlicher und unberührter
Schönheit.
SCALA DEI TURCHI - Costabianca est appelée la côte
de cet endroit en raison de ses caractéristiques géologiques. Il s’agit d’une crête de marne blanche
éblouissante encadrée par la mer
bleu clair. C’est “L’escalier des Turcs”
ancien atterrissage de navires de
Barbarie, qui est situé à quelques
kilomètres de Porto Empedocle, paradis d’une beauté naturelle intacte
pour les nageurs.
