2016 Ministry Handbook
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.
Use them well to serve one another.
1 Peter 4:10
As part of the family of Northeast Church, we each are called to use the gifts and abilities
given to us by God to serve one another and proclaim the Gospel as we serve.
Our mission is to reach and disciple people within our circle of influence for Jesus Christ
with a loving and caring spirit.
This booklet will introduce you to the current ministries supported by NEC and provide you
with ways to contact ministry leaders so you can get involved. Learn more about each of
these ministries on the web at mynortheastchurch.com.
Connect
As a believer in Christ, you have been given gifts.
We invite you to connect with the ministries of NEC
and discover all the opportunities available to serve
others. Your unique gifts are pieces in the larger
puzzle of how we do ministry at NEC. Without your
piece, the picture is incomplete.
Engage
As you find your fit in a specific ministry at NEC,
we pray you will begin to engage with others who
serve in that ministry area. There is great joy and
fulfillment found in finding your place of service
alongside those who have the same passion, gifts
and abilities. Together we can do more than any
one of us can do alone.
Partner
As you become a partner in ministry with NEC, there will be a feeling of ownership and
responsibility to that area where you have connected and engaged. As we all partner
together to serve others we will truly experience what Christ intended for His Church.
Children and Preschool Ministry
Becky Richardson
The Children’s and Preschool Ministry at NEC is
exciting because we are planting seeds and reaping
a harvest of children who have accepted Jesus as
their Savior! Our goal is to help them understand
God’s Word and how to apply it to their everyday
lives. We are blessed with adults who have a heart
for children and a passion for pouring into their lives.
Volunteers are always needed in this vital ministry of
our church and the blessing will surely belong to you
as you serve these young ones.
Sunday Morning Life Groups
Our children and preschoolers learn the same Biblical concepts as our adults during Life
Groups. Age specific classes are taught by volunteers and a large group time of singing
and learning is led by Mrs. Becky. Teachers and assistants are always needed.
Wednesday Night KidzLife
A mid-week infusion of worship, targeted Bible teaching
and recreation awaits our children and preschoolers each
Wednesday night. Volunteers assist with worship, teaching,
games, listening and much more.
Vacation Bible School
TM
It takes the whole church to do VBS at Northeast! Teachers, small group guides, recreation,
snacks, crafts, decor, construction...there is room for your gifts and talents.
Crazy Praise Kidz
Teaching our children to worship through music and drama.
Events and Activities
Bowling...Water Park...Jumpin’ Jacks Indoor Playground...and much more.
Preschool Ministry
Northeast Church loves babies! It is our hope to partner with parents and volunteers
as we invest in the lives of preschoolers each week. We know that every moment is
a “teachable” moment with these little ones! If you have a desire to teach and nurture
preschoolers, many opportunities await you in this ministry area. Join us as we serve those
who are precious in His sight!
Connections Ministry Barbara Beverly, Carey Waldrip, Bud Eavenson
The Connections Ministry of NEC has several components and continues to expand as
God continues to grow our church family and ministry.
Guest Services
This team has the desire to make every person who
walks through our doors experience a warm and inviting
welcome. They do this by anticipating questions and
providing necessary information about our church and
the ministries available.
Ushers
This team is available for welcoming people into the
worship service and assisting them with finding seats.
Their goal is to never have our guests standing in the
back and looking for a seat. They also help with the offering time in our service.
Parking
This team is our first impression to guests and members each time the doors are open. Give
a smile, help a Mom, assist someone who is disabled and make a difference.
Life Groups Ministry
John Hartman
Life Groups are the heart and soul of Northeast
Church. This time in small groups each Sunday at 9:45
a.m. is the way we connect and build community by
studying God’s Word together. Each group also enjoys
times of fun and fellowship with activities throughout the
year. Visit us on the web to see more about our current
Life Groups.
Men’s Ministry
Greg Worley
We are Kingdom Men at Northeast Church.
Our mission is to serve the Lord at home, at
work, at play and in the Church. We strive
to help every man deepen his personal
relationship with God (Matthew 22:37-38), develop his relationships with other men (Matthew
22:39-40), and disciple his life for works of service (Matthew 28:18-20).
Kingdom Men
Through various strategies...social, situational, seminars, spiritual, you can become the
Kingdom Man God desires. Visit our web page for more details and specific ways you
can be involved.
Missions Ministry
Chuck Cook
The Caring Place, Clyde and Theresa Smith
On the first Wednesday of each month, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., NEC opens
its doors to those in need in our community. We have food, clothing
and haircuts available for free. Our Caring Place ministry team is a
group that serves those in need with great compassion and with a
desire to lead them to a saving knowledge of Christ. If your calling is
to work with those in need, then the Caring Place team needs you!
Peru Mission, Chuck Cook
At least once a year Coach Chuck Cook leads a team of adults and students to Peru
to serve an orphanage and also to share the gospel in the surrounding areas near the
orphanage.
J-Town, Chuck Cook
This is a new mission work that began with NEC Adult Student Ministry Leadership who
had a desire to take the Gospel into one of our local communities that most people would
avoid. The thought was, “Where would Jesus go?” They meet every Sunday at 6pm at the
Jefferson Pizza Kitchen for worship and fellowship.
Good News Club, Kay Davis
This after-school ministry is led by Kay Davis and reaches 150-175
primary and intermediate school children each Thursday afternoon
during the school year. It is an exciting fun-filled hour where Kay and
her helpers desire to reach these children through dynamic Bible
lessons, games and songs.
Backpack Buddies, Linda Hartman, Judy Rouse
There are children in our own community that leave school each Friday and arrive at home
with no food for the weekend. The Women’s Ministry of NEC provides food for these
children to take home with them. Our church family faithfully provides the necessary food
items and the Backpack Buddies team will pack those items to be given out on Fridays at
our schools.
Devin’s Stocking, Susan McDowell
Each December the NEC family purchases clothing and toys to over 200 families for
Christmas. Susan McDowell leads this team as they gather information from needy
families, pass those needs onto the congregation and then organize and pack all the gifts
into large bags to be handed out to the families the week before Christmas.
Office and Event Volunteers
Kathy Duke
Northeast Church is committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus in the community
around us in both our weekly activities and our special community-wide events. There are
always phones to be answered, copies to be made, folding, sorting, stuffing and a variety
of other tasks to be accomplished to not only help make these special events successful, but
also to assist in the success of our day to day demands in the church office. This is a team
of task-oriented individuals who serve the Lord by supporting the ministries of the church
behind the scenes.
Senior Adult Ministry
Linda Pugh, Clyde and Theresa Smith
We have a very active senior adult group at NEC called Prime Timers. They meet
the second Thursday of each month for a covered dish fellowship meal along with an
interesting and informative program as well. Our senior adult ministry team helps plan this
monthly meeting and the fun day trips and occasional overnight trips to places of mutual
interest. This is a fun-loving and very active group that is a vital part of the Northeast Church
ministry.
Student Ministry
Chuck Cook
Our Student Ministry exists to give every student the opportunity to KNOW Jesus Christ
as Lord and Savior and to be discipled as young believers to grow in their relationship
with Christ. In addition, we schedule a variety of activities to provide opportunities for our
students to connect and invite their friends to NEC. All you need is a love for Jesus and
students to volunteer in this important ministry of our church.
