Die österreichische Nahrungs- und Genussmittelindustrie zählt hinsichtlich Wertschöpfung und
Beschäftigung zu einem der wichtigsten Wirtschaftszweige Österreichs, was nicht verwundert,
wird doch in unserem Land gerne und genussreich gegessen und getrunken. Den Konsumenten
bietet sich heute in den heimischen und europäischen Supermärkten und Fachgeschäften ein
wahres „Schlaraffenland“ an Köstlichkeiten in einem Ausmaß, das sich vor einigen Jahren noch
niemand vorstellen konnte.
Die österreichische Lebensmittelwirtschaft ist klein und mittelständisch strukturiert. Gerade
in diesen überschaubaren Strukturen liegt die Stärke dieser Branche. Die österreichischen

In terms of creating value and providing jobs, the Austrian food and beverage industry is one of
Austria’s most important industry sectors. Hardly surprising, as one can be sure to eat and drink
very well in our country. Consumers in Austrian and European supermarkets and delicatessens are
now offered an astonishing array of gastronomic delights, which would have been unthinkable just
a few years ago.
The structure of the Austrian food and drink industry is primarily composed of small and medium
enterprises. Traditional production methods based on natural, unadulterated agricultural
produce enable Austrian manufacturers to offer a high-quality, delicious range of products which
will continue to delight consumers well into the future.

Die Lagen der Weingärten sind sanfte,

Westufer des Neusiedlersees. Feuchtigkeit
im Spätsommer und Frühherbst sind
entscheidend für die Entwicklung des
Edelfäulepilzes. Edelfaule, geschrumpfte

Weinqualität wie z.B. den Ruster Ausbruch.
At present approx. 55 hectares of vineyards
are cultivated, located within the limits of the
Free City of Rust, one of the best winegrowing areas in the world. The vineyards
are on gently sloping hillsides facing southeast,
on the west bank of Lake Neusiedl. Damp
conditions in the late summer and early autumn
plays a crucial role in the development of the
noble rot fungus. When carefully harvested, the
grapes shrivelled by noble rot produce wines of
the highest quality e.g. the Ruster Ausbruch.

product, a fine pesto made from roasted Styrian
