Almost a year has passed since I first
launched guided. The positive feedback has
motivated me to once again seek out new and
fascinating discoveries to unearth for you in
the shopping sector.
Especially the Westbahnstrasse in the 7th district has really blossomed. Several interesting
shops have sprung up around ‘365 – The Fox
House’, which offers a mixture of culinary specialties, art, and shopping. Two of these shops
are the concept store comerc, which presents
a cool blend of simplicity and art, and the
‘guate stoffe’, which brings a varied and colourful bit of Guatemala to Vienna. Pure Scandinavian design can be found at ‘designqvist’,
and one can book a great sewing workshop at
the ‘Stoffsalon’.
Another area that is becoming more and more
interesting is Theobaldgasse in the 6th district.
Since I decided to look for culinary delicacies
in addition to fine shopping, I struck it lucky
here; for example at ‘feinkoch’ and the ‘Café
Akrap’.
And because great children’s shops are springing up like mushrooms, guided 2012/13 is
offering a special edition completely devoted
to children. In co-operation with the creative
children’s magazine ‘kleinformat’, its editor
Dolores Wally presents you with the best
children’s shops.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the participants, who have made guided possible. My
thanks also go to the new partners and to the
fairs, festivals, hotels, and others for also believing that guided belongs everywhere.

Was mit dem Bugaboo anfing, ist heute der Brio. Auch in Wien ist
das der Indikator für die neuen Eltern: urban, gerne dj, gerne mit
Freitag-Tasche. War klar, dass diese für ihre Kinder genauso „coole“
Sachen wollen, wie für sich selbst. Bio und Fair Trade sowieso.
Mittlerweile ist der Trend auch hier angekommen: Kleine Läden,
oft inhabergeführt, haben ihren eigenen Stil und Kunden, die
genau deswegen wiederkommen. Auch die diy-Welle passt da dazu:
Gerade Mütter wollen selber machen. Einige sind so erfolgreich,
dass sie ein kleines Unternehmen mit ihren Sachen betreiben. Ob
Fliegenpilze oder Kindermode aus Kalifornien, in Wien lohnt sich
der Blick in die Nebenstraßen.
What started with Bugaboo is Brio today. It’s the same with new
parents in Vienna, who are urbane, would secretly have liked to have
been djs, enjoy walking around with Freitag bags, etc. So it’s obvious
that they want the same cool stuff for their kids – and organic and
Fair Trade to boot. The movement has also landed here: little shops,
often run by the owners, have their own unique styles and customers, who come back just for that reason. The diy craze fits right
in: especially mothers want to make things themselves. Some are so
successful at it that they start up their own small businesses to sell
their products. Whether you’re looking for the trendy red and white
polka-dotted mushroom motif or kids’ clothes from California, it
pays to have a look in the side streets of Vienna.

Almost a year has passed since I first
launched guided. The positive feedback has
motivated me to once again seek out new and
fascinating discoveries to unearth for you in
the shopping sector.
Especially the Westbahnstrasse in the 7th district has really blossomed. Several interesting
shops have sprung up around ‘365 – The Fox
House’, which offers a mixture of culinary specialties, art, and shopping. Two of these shops
are the concept store comerc, which presents
a cool blend of simplicity and art, and the
‘guate stoffe’, which brings a varied and colourful bit of Guatemala to Vienna. Pure Scandinavian design can be found at ‘designqvist’,
and one can book a great sewing workshop at
the ‘Stoffsalon’.
Another area that is becoming more and more
interesting is Theobaldgasse in the 6th district.
Since I decided to look for culinary delicacies
in addition to fine shopping, I struck it lucky
here; for example at ‘feinkoch’ and the ‘Café
Akrap’.
And because great children’s shops are springing up like mushrooms, guided 2012/13 is
offering a special edition completely devoted
to children. In co-operation with the creative
children’s magazine ‘kleinformat’, its editor
Dolores Wally presents you with the best
children’s shops.
