In 2017, Canada will turn 150 years old. It is a country that has
welcomed the world through its borders.
To celebrate this birthday, the Mural Mosaic team is launching a
bold undertaking. Over a two year span, the trio plan to create a
mural including all provinces and territories, over 80,000 paintings
and 150 individual murals that when united will form one gigantic
mural mosaic. The mural, if ever connected would be over 365
meters wide (4 football elds) x 2.5 meters high (8 feet).
The mural will represent a cultural mosaic, a time capsule, a
visual portrayal of history, an art masterpiece from the soul of the
nation. An art piece that fty years from now, may inspire another
generation, who will in turn be able to celebrate through the mural,
and maybe take it upon themselves to add to this memory.

ENJOY WHAT PONOKA HAS TO OFFER!
A message from Mayor Rick Bonnett
As Mayor, I am proud of the many programs, services and special events that Ponoka community groups,
organizations and the Town provide for residents of all ages to choose from year round. It's part of what makes
Ponoka such an active, vibrant and healthy community. As summer approaches, that list of activities and
programs grows longer than ever!
The Ponoka Stampede will offer a full week of world-class rodeo events and entertainment, including the
annual parade on June 30. The Stampede will once again attract thousands of visitors from across the province
and beyond as it celebrates its 80th anniversary in Ponoka.
Centennial Park will once again be a hub of activity this summer as families flock to the splash park, mini golf,
fishing pond and the new playground being installed by the Ponoka Kinette and Lions Clubs with support from
the Town. Canada Day activities and our second annual Ponoka Day in the Park will also offer
entertainment and fun for all ages.
The Town will be installing two new playgrounds this summer in Westview Park and Coop
Subdivision Park. And, of course, our trail system will be alive with people walking, biking and
jogging in our beautiful river valley.
This new Community Guide was created by the Town to raise awareness of the many programs,
events and recreational facilities available to our residents. Continued growth of recreational
opportunities, and the health and wellness our community are important priorities identified in the
Town's 2015-17 Strategic Plan and in our new Recreation Master Plan. I invite you to look at these
documents on our Town website at www.ponoka.ca. You can find them under Town Hall.
Enjoy your summer in beautiful Ponoka!
Sincerely, Rick Bonnett, Mayor
