Career Fair 2015 at Jacobs University
Program and Catalogue of Exhibitors
One of the key tasks of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce is to
optimally shape conditions for Bremen’s business in the best
way. The intensive transfer between business and science
plays a significant part in this.
The expansion of the science and research infrastructure has
contributed immensely to the economic structural change in
Bremen and Bremerhaven. In the past years our State has
developed into a globally recognized, powerful science location.
Bremen’s universities have made decisive contributions to this
development in a multitude of ways.
Otto Lamotte
Vice President Bremen
Chamber of Commerce
Jacobs University can look back at a successful development as
a talent pool for the German and particularly also for the
Bremen-based industry. In view of the expanding
internationalization and the associated requirements for
qualified employees within the region competencies and
qualifications of students are increasingly sought after. The
Bremen Chamber of Commerce and Jacobs University have
been collaborating in this area for many years.
The Jacobs Career Fair provides Bremen’s and international
companies with a platform to get to know international
students. At the same time students can find out about the
different requirements that are important for starting a
professional career with these companies.
I wish everyone participating in the “Jacobs Career Fair”
interesting and beneficial conversations and contacts.
Otto Lamotte
Vice President Bremen Chamber of Commerce

Career Fair 2015 at Jacobs University
Program and Catalogue of Exhibitors
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Jacobs University is a very special place of inspiration. Research
and education aren’t restricted to stringent boundaries of
single subjects at our university. We focus on topics, not on
disciplines, and address these topics from a multitude of
different perspectives in order to find sustainable solutions for
the challenges of our time. Our students are not educated to be
specialists in a single subject but are taught the ability to think
beyond the boundaries of their profession benefitting from the
broad knowledge and practical experience they have gained
during their studies.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katja Windt
President of the
Jacobs University Bremen
This is of particular importance when addressing problems in
the real world – including the work environment. But
professional success needs more than just a specialist training.
In our opinion, competencies such as team and communication
skills, flexibility and entrepreneurial thinking are essential as
well. At Jacobs University our students therefore also learn key
qualifications they need for a successful start in their job. This is
not only a benefit for the young people but also for businesses
and organizations. As future employees, our graduates will be
highly skilled and well trained for their profession.
At our Jacobs Career Fair on February 25, 2015 you can find
this out for yourself. Get to know Jacobs University and our
students. Find new employees with whom you can shape the
future of your company.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
With best wishes

Research
Number of employees: 1000
http://www.awi.de
The Alfred Wegener Institute carries out research in the Arctic and Antarctic as well as
in the high and mid latitude oceans. The institute coordinates German polar research
and makes important infrastructure, e.g. the research icebreaker Polarstern and
research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic available to national and international
science.
The Institute's research mission is to improve our understanding of ocean-iceatmosphere interactions, the animal and plant kingdoms of the Arctic and Antarctic,
and the evolution of the polar continents and seas. Given the major role played by
these regions within the earth's climate system, global change is a central focus of the
research effort at AWI.
AWI collaborates in numerous international research programmes and maintains
close contacts with many universities and institutes in Europe and farther afield. It
sends scientists to other institutes throughout the world, to other research ships and
stations, and invites scientists from other nations to cruises aboard the Polarstern, as
well as to Bremerhaven and Potsdam. About a quarter of those participating in
Polarstern expeditions are scientists from abroad.

We are the innovators that you can count on
After more than 20 years of hard work and successful collaboration with others, we are happy
to report that even those who never heard of Materialise have probably been touched by the
work made possible by our products, services, and solutions.
Through our work with Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known in the popular media as 3D
printing, Materialise is helping bring great ideas to life. We work with others to put great
products aimed at niche markets directly into the marketplace as well as helping make the
prototypes of products later manufactured by the millions. What’s more, through our software,
we enable others to do the same with their own AM equipment and services.
Our software is also powering new innovations in biomedical research, helping others make
discoveries that save lives. Furthermore, we are taking patient-specific healthcare to new
heights by working closely with surgeons for the planning and execution of complicated
surgical procedures. Our work with surgeons and the improved medical solutions being
created with our software are getting people back on their feet, and putting smiles back on
patient’s faces.
Materialise is also putting the power of Additive Manufacturing into the hands of everyday
people. With an easy-to-use online service, now anyone can create a truly customized object.
We have also challenged some of the world’s top designers to use this technology in the
creation of an award winning line of 3D printed objects available for sale online and in different
shops around the world.
Headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, Materialise is present globally. The biggest offices are in
Belgium, Ukraine, Malaysia, the Czech Republic and the USA. Medium sized offices are in
China, Germany (Bremen and Munich), Poland, France and the UK.
We are Materialise and we are all around you, making the world a better and healthier place to
live.

School of Marine Microbiology (MarMic)
MSc/PhD program focusing on marine microbiology, oceanography, physiology,
ecology, evolution, molecular biology, bioinformatics
Number of employees: ~ 25 MSc & 65 PhD students
www.marmic.mpg.de
The International Max Planck Research School of Marine Microbiology (MarMic) is an
MSc / PhD graduate program for highly qualified and motivated national and
international students. MarMic is a joint program of the Max Planck Institute for Marine
Microbiology, the University of Bremen, the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and

MarMic teaches students to take an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of
marine prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbiology, offering training in physiology,
ecology, evolution, molecular biology, bioinformatics and other related subjects.
The MarMic concept is unique: we are educating a new generation of marine
scientists, and providing them with the tools to better understand microbial life and the
matter in which it affects our biosphere. MarMic students are trained to think globally
and to choose from both holistic and reductionistic research approaches. The breadth
of theoretical and practical experiences at MarMic enables students to address
questions ranging from biogeochemistry to genomic analysis, from single-cell
interactions to behavior in mixed communities. These abilities make MarMic students
attractive scientists for international research teams, institutes, universities, and
industry.

TobyRich GmbH
Consumer Electronics, Next Generation Smartphone Controlled
Toys and Gadgets, Low Power Wireless
Number of employees: 10
www.tobyrich.com
TobyRich started as a small company with one simple idea: to build a smartphonecontrolled airplane that was lighter than a sheet of paper which they then wanted to
bring to the masses.
Over the past two and a half years, TobyRich has been pushing the limits of Bluetooth
Smart technology to create surprising breakthrough products. Their faith in the market
was substantiated when they developed PowerUp 3.0, a smartphone-controlled paper
airplane, and raised over $1.2M at Kickstarter to become an overnight media darling.
Since then other companies have partnered with TobyRich with the mission to cut the
cord and build connected, wireless, smart gadgets that tickle our fantasies.
Now with 6 full-time and 4 part-time employees, TobyRich remains focused. There's a
lot of cool tech cooking in our open-plan office in Bremen, Germany. The weather is
mostly terrible but the enthusiasm is always skyrocketing ahead!
TobyRich was founded by the entrepreneur and Internet of Things architect Tobias
"Toby" Dazenko, the German aviation engineer and product designer Ulrich "Rich"
Ditschler and the Jacobs University graduate and software developer Prashant
Vaibhav.
