“...confirmed and strengthened in the way that
leads to life eternal”
— Congregational Baptismal Response (UMH,p.44)
The 2010-2011 Confirmation Class will be helping lead worship in both of
our Traditional worship services this Sunday, May 1. They have each met with
a pastor and confirmed their personal answer to Christ’s call for a personal
relationship, to His “Great Commission” of all disciples, and to take the local
church membership vow of supporting their home church with their “prayers,
presence, gifts, service, and witness.”
The Pollard Family of Faith is reminded to pray for and encourage these
youth and to support them with your attendance at worship on their special
Sunday! Their official confirmation liturgy and process will take place in the
11:00 Traditional service. In both of the Traditional services they will be
assisting pastors with the communion serving and leading the congregation in
saying their Christian creed which they have written. At the 11:00 hour, they will
be named, celebrated and prayed for in the Contemporary worship service by
members of their new church family attending that service.
There will be an informal reception for the confirmation class members and
their families in the Church Parlor at 9:45am.
Please continue prayers for:
Gracie Boudreau, Collin
Damskov, Daniel Dobbins, Josh
Jenkins, Will Lively, Payton
Nelson, Erin Roberts, Matthew
Rocha, Pierce Thomas, and J.J.

Prayer and Healing Service to be Held on May 5, 2011 (6:30 pm)
On Thursday evening, Pollard UMC will have a Prayer and Healing Service for our church and
community in observance of the National Day of Prayer. We will meet together in the Sanctuary
at 6:30 pm for a time of prayer.
“All healing is of God. The Church’s healing ministry in no way detracts from the gifts God gives
through medicine. It is no substitute for either medicine or the proper care of one’s health. Rather, it adds to our resources
for wholeness. God does not promise that we shall be spared suffering but does promise to be with us in our suffering.
Trusting that promise, we are enabled to recognize God’s sustaining presence in pain, sickness, injury, and estrangement.
Likewise, God does not promise that we will be cured of all illnesses; and we must all face the inevitability of death. A Service of Healing is not necessarily a service of curing, but it provides an atmosphere in which healing can happen.” (UM
Book of Worship).
We realize that there are many suffering people in our congregation and in our community. God is concerned about our
“wholeness” which includes our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. I am convinced that every one of us needs healing
for some “brokenness” in our lives, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual.
“Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any
among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the
name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed
sins will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The
prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.” (James 5: 13-16) If you would like to come and pray for yourself, a family member, a friend, or for the community and world, or have someone pray for you, please come and join your Pollard pastors and your church family on Thursday evening for this “prayer and healing” service.

Hello All,
Please take a moment and look at the calendar to write down these coming events. There are meetings coming
up and events where I need to see many familiar smiling faces. I am certain everyone is super busy, and I appreciate the
time you take to help make this youth family work the best it can.
Wednesday, April 27, is Youth Fellowship at the church at 6 pm. I would love to get a massive game of “pelt” working.
Sunday, May 1, is the Phone-A-Thon. It starts at 1:30 and goes until 5:30 pm. Please sign up for shifts to work making phone calls if you are attending summer missions.
Sunday, May 1, following the Phone-A-Thon is RECHARGE. The dinner provided by Clark Thomas will be amazing
as always; I just hope what I have to say will be equally inspiring.
Wednesday, May 4, is YOUTH NIGHT at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church. The 4-6th of May is a Revival at
Lanes Chapel with different activities happening every night. It just happens that Wednesday is youth night during this
time.
Sunday, May 8th: Graduation RSVP cards are due for the Graduation Luncheon, and it’s MOTHER’S DAY. So...NO
YOUTH, spend the time with your mom or the person you consider to be a mother figure to you.
Wednesday, May 11, is the Senior Meeting at 6:30 pm. If you are a graduating Senior, it is very important that you do
everything possible to be at this meeting to help determine the layout of services on Graduation Sunday.
If you have any questions, please let me know. God Bless, Derek
