With the onset of the cold season,
we are again going swimming, even outdoors in the case of Riehen in Switzerland
and the Danish island of Funen. Great
creative intelligence and fantastic imagination have gone into crafting two places
there, in already exceptional surroundings, which further progress the conventional open-air swimming pool in terms of
urban development.

also been a financial success, as the visitor
numbers demonstrate.

FSB 2015
Modern halls make for new momentum
Even though the next FSB is still almost ten
months away, the outlook for the International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas and
Sports and Pool Facilities is already excellent. The move to the modern North Halls
of the Cologne exhibition grounds in particular grants new momentum to the trade
fair. From 27 – 30 October 2015, the trade
fair duo of FSB and aquanale, the International Trade Fair for Sauna. Pool. Ambience, running in parallel, will present its
new “themed-hall concept” on an exhibition area of around 80,000 sqm in halls
6, 7, 9 and 10. As of 2015, exhibitors at
both events will benefit from an improved
infrastructure in the northern area of the
Cologne exhibition grounds. The compact layout of the modern, naturally-lit
halls facilitates the optimum flow of visitors
through the fair area via the fairground’s
“Boulevard”. The North Halls also avail of
the perfect transport connection to Congress Centres North and East. In addition,
Entrance East is situated conveniently near
the ICE train station as well as near the
public transport hub of Köln Messe/Deutz.
With the new “themed hall concept”,
the successful trade fair duo continues
to build on its innovativeness, setting
the right course for a successful future in
the trade fair hub of Cologne. “We have
received a lot of praise for our new concept from within the industry. The new
structure of the FSB sections of amenities, sports and public pool construction
means that existing synergies – amongst
themselves and together with aquanale –
can be exploited more effectively, creating more business networks on a national
and international scale”, says Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer
at Koelnmesse GmbH. “The restructuring represents a further consolidation of
the trade fair duo’s leading position as
the world’s largest industry event in the
games and playground, sports, amenities
and pool construction sectors.“ The new
concept is already making an impact, as
can be seen from the excellent booking
figures for FSB and aquanale. In addition,
companies registering before 31 January
2015 will also benefit from the attractive
early bird booking prices of both fairs.
Showcasing trends within the games and
playground, sports, pools and amenities
industry every two years, FSB is the source
of inspiration for the design of tomorrow’s
urban living spaces. At FSB and aquanale,
all industry players get an overview of
new technologies, product innovations,
process optimisations and future-orientated planning.
Since 1969, the International Trade Fair
for Amenity Areas, Sports and Pool Facilities has combined new ideas with the
tried and tested and, in addition to the
fair, has offered an international congress
and workshop programme. A particular
highlight of FSB 2015 is the 50th anniversary of IAKS which will be celebrated over
the course of the fair. The anniversary will
be a central focus of the IAKS Congress
and the workshop events. In cooperation with the IOC and the IPC, IAKS will
again award its international architectural
prizes. Further highlights of the extensive FSB event programme include the 6th
Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness
Forum as well as the STADTundRAUM
Congress with the presentation of the
“Spielraumpreis“ (the German Amenities Award) for barrier-free public spaces
for play and exercise. Another top event
hosted by the trade fair duo is the 7th
International Swimming Pond Congress
under the auspices of the International
Organisation for Natural Bathing Waters
(IOB). Around 400 participants from all
over the world are expected to attend the
congress, which will be held in Cologne
for the first time.
The trade fair duo’s last edition successfully brought together the swimming pool
sectors from aquanale and FSB’s ‘Public
swimming pool construction’ area and
confirmed that joint trade fair concepts
are a guarantee for a successful future of
all sectors involved. The joint presentation means that all aspects of the public
and private swimming pool, wellness and
sauna sectors are now represented in
Cologne on one platform and in clearly
defined theme worlds. The 6th Cologne
Swimming Pools & Wellness Forum will
take place for the sixth time in Cologne in
2015 and will once again connect the private and public bathing areas.
With the new layout concept revolving around the themed halls, FSB is also
exploiting synergies among the other

IAKS Section Switzerland
SportAccord IF Forum 2014
IAKS Section Switzerland organised a
seminar on sports facility management on
28 October 2014. At the Legends Club of
the Bossard Arena in Zug, Section President Dr Stefan Kannewischer welcomed
some 85 participants.
The 8th edition of the SportAccord IF
Forum was held at the Beau-Rivage Palace
in Lausanne from 3-5 November 2014.
The IF Forum allowed international federations to share, learn and discuss, but also
to walk away with tools and ideas that
they will be able to implement. On behalf
of IAKS, Managing Director Klaus Meinel
participated in the event.

focus areas and delivering benefits for the
respective sectors. The “amenities” sector
unites the previously separate areas of
playground equipment/playground planning with amenities/urban furnishing in
one joint hall 9, creating a meeting place
where the industry’s public and private
decision-makers, landscape architects and
planners can exchange on future-orientated solutions.
From 2015 on, halls 7 and 10 will house
the sports and leisure worlds, with sports
facilities, accessories and equipment,
sports-facilities care, flooring, artificial
turf as well as ice and winter sports– thematically and spatially divided according
to indoor and outdoor categories. Many
sports activities will make even more of a
splash in the new halls, like basketball in
cooperation with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), soccer and ice-skating. In this manner, fair visitors will get indepth impressions of the diversity of the
sports and leisure infrastructure.
Review of 2013:
In October 2013, FSB and aquanale
together welcomed approximately 25,000
trade visitors from 115 countries. At FSB
alone, a total of 619 companies from 44
countries presented the complete range
of innovations, products and services from
the amenity areas, sports and pool facilities sectors. All the market-leading companies from Germany and abroad gathered in Cologne, to showcase the entire
spectrum of innovation from the amenity
areas, games and playground, sports and
public pool sectors. FSB 2013 was characterised by distinct growth in terms of
space occupied, the international nature
of the event and in visitor numbers.

Martin Bühler, head of the sports facilities
department in St. Gallen, showed in his
talk ways of improving the efficiency of
local-authority sports facilities. The presentation on maintenance strategies and
systems was given by Dr Frank Wadenpohl, Institute of Facility Management at
Zürich University of Applied Sciences.
Dr Stefan Kannewischer presented the
proposals for the development of sports
facilities in Switzerland which were formulated by the Executive Board of the IAKS
Section Switzerland on the occasion of its
anniversary. These were welcomed by the
vast majority of participants.
The talk on the financing and organisation of sports facilities for new sports was
given by Samuel Hubschmid, President
of trailnet and independent consultant.
Thomas Rogg, deputy head of the property department of the municipality of
Zug, and two building services technicians
then guided participants through the
Bossard Arena with its impressive technical and functional design. In the subsequent lecture, Rogg explained the goals,
procedure and contractual arrangements
of the Bossard Arena. Finally, Arjan Koelewijn, Sales + Events of the EVZ, gave an
introduction to the operating strategy of
the EVZ as the main tenant.

The IF Forum was opened by SportAccord
President Marius L. Vizer who spoke of the
importance of this year’s topic ‘Innovation
and Technology’ for all member federations and the need for constant change.
Delivering a welcome address, IOC President
Dr Thomas Bach congratulated SportAccord
for organising this year’s IF Forum and said,
“We need to change at a time when we
are successful and not when we are forced
to. We need to be in the driver’s seat and
not be driven around when it comes to the
global sports movement.”
This year’s IF Forum attracted over 300
participants and featured more than 45
speakers and presenters.
SportAccord Director General Vlad Marinescu led a discussion on the global .sport
project. This could help international federations to monetize their activities further
while using a common .sport domain for
consolidation of services and data. Vlad
Marinescu also led the audience through
a detailed understanding of the new
global sports calendar being incorporated
into the upcoming SportAccord website.
The huge response, the interesting range
of participants and the lively discussion
highlighted the topicality and importance
of the subject of sports facility management. The talks made available can be

The next SportAccord Convention –
World Sport & Business Summit will be
held from 19-24 April 2015 in Sochi. The
event will embrace art, culture, construction, telecommunication and healthcare,
in order to bring different industries into
the sphere of the sports world.

Facilities 2015
IPC/IAKS Distinction
for Accessibility 2015
Eligible to enter the 2015 competition are
new-built facilities as well as extensions,
modernizations, rehabilitations or conversions of already existing buildings and
facilities in the public and private sector.
The facilities must have been erected and
gone into operation between 1 January
2008 and 31 March 2014 and must have
been in successful operation for at least
one year.
The International Olympic Committee
(IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS)
have launched the 2015 edition of their
international architectural prizes.
The IOC/IAKS Award brings to public
attention exemplary buildings and complexes that integrate sensible sustainability and legacy considerations, strong
functional planning, and exceptional
architectural design. The goal of enhancing the human experience and appreciation of sport and leisure while protecting
the environment through design, material
use and creativity is fundamental to the
awards programme.
The IPC/IAKS Distinction is aimed at
increasing the accessibility of all sports
and leisure facilities as well as architectural projects in order to give opportunities to practise and view sport freely and
without barriers to all people, regardless
of their physical abilities.
The winning sports and leisure facilities
will receive the IOC/IAKS Award in gold,
silver or bronze and/or the IPC/IAKS Distinction. In addition to this, there will be
Special Prizes for facilities remarkable for
particular design features or particular
exemplary characteristics.

architects and designers to dedicate their
enthusiasm and imagination to create
areas and spaces for active living.
Temporary structures (e.g. for major

operator) of the facility.

for Students and Young Professionals 2015
The IOC, the IPC and the IAKS have also
started the 2015 Architecture and Design
Award for Students and Young Profes-
This award aims at young architects and
designers currently studying architecture,
landscape architecture, interior design or
general design, and at young professionals being in their first 2 years of professional practice. All participants must be
under the age of 30 years to participate.
Eligible to enter the competition is any
kind of design work which focuses on
the creation of spaces and areas to be
used for sports and leisure activities in
the broadest sense. It is provided that
the design concept targets on encouraging sports practice among the youth. By
bringing sport to the youth where they
are (e.g. in an urban environment), the
project should aim at creating a high
sports legacy.

Yoshiko Osamura has been a research
staff member at the Japanese Institute
of Sports and Culture since 2013. She is
also a graduate school student in Yokohama City College faculty of City Planning. Her basic interest was about sports
environment but later expanded into city
planning, since she believed that sports
can be practiced in a large almost unlimited space. She is especially interested in
German sports facilities, culture and management. After graduation she plans to
take up further studies abroad.
Miranda Kiuri is currently scientific collaborator at the Laboratory LEMA (Local
Environment Management & Analysis) of
the University of Liège. She participated
in different olympic bids as manager,
planner and architect. She also worked
as a consultant and expert for different
institutions and international sporting
organisations. Miranda Kiuri was professor in architecture at the University UCJC
in Madrid, head of Design Studio at ULg
Belgium, guest lecturer at several European universities and at the International
Olympic Academy (IOA) as well as at several international forums on sport, culture
and environment.
Hasco Mahler, Bad Neuenahr,
(DE)
Hasco Mahler works as an expert in sports
and leisure facilities and sports equipment. With over 400 expert reports he
informed many district courts, federal district courts and courts of appeal.
Her doctoral thesis was dedicated to
the sustainability of the modern Olympic Games and their safeguarding as an
intangible World Cultural Heritage (WCH).
Her research focuses on the role of sport
architecture in sustainable and creative
urban design and development from the
perspective of cultural heritage. Recently
she published in The Journal of Cultural
Heritage Management and Sustainable
Development and The International Journal of Architectural Research.
Miranda Kiuri is member of the Swiss
Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA)
and of the Spanish Official Association
of Architects (COAA). She is individual
member of the Union International des
Architectes (UIA) Sports & Leisure Group.

Aberdeen Aquatics Centre
For the fourth time the Olympic competitions in Trampoline Gymnastics are held
with trampolines from the German trampoline manufacturer Eurotramp. In addition to the Olympic Games in Athens,
Sydney and Beijing Eurotramp will supply
its competition trampolines also to the
Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
The Aberdeen Aquatics Centre, designed
by FaulknerBrowns Architects, provides a
10 lane 50m Olympic standard pool with
a dividing boom and part floating floor, a
25m x 16.5m diving pool with the latest
technology in water cushioning systems
and an adjustable floor to enable a range
of uses from competition to community use. In addition, the Centre provides
spectator seating for 600, a full timing/
video analysis laboratory, a land conditioning area, a health suite and a bridge
connection to the adjacent Aberdeen
Sports Village.

The Chinese development of aquatic facilities is underway. Regular swimming is
being recognised as one of the best lifestyle-health activities. Increased travels for
family vacations often go to water-related
destinations.
The demand to learn swimming is therefore booming in China. Swimming and
water polo clubs are being established
even in small towns. Diving, however,
remains the top water sport in China
when it comes to olympic gold medals
and politics.
Equipped with Anti Wave top sport performance inputs, the WaterCube was
a great venue for the 2008 Olympics.
After the Games it was visited by a multitude of Chinese tourists from far-away
regions of China. By 2011 this interest
has diminished, as is often the norm for
post-olympic facilities.
Now it is used mainly for top international
FINA events, whilst its 50m training pool
is open for public swimming. The Watercube’s main revenue provider now is the
attached water park, frequented by Beijing youth and families.
Additionally Eurotramp will supply the
trampolines and trampoline accessories
for the dry area of Olympic Diving. Furthermore, the contract with Rio OC covers
the complete competition services executed by the Eurotramp service team. It
includes the assembly and disassembly of
the trampolines in the training and competition area as well as maintenance of
the equipment executed by a Eurotramp
technician.

Eurotramp will also supply many more
national and international contests of the
next few years with its trampolines, such
as the World Cups 2015 in Spain and
Russia, the Trampoline World Championships 2015 in Denmark, the World Gymnaestrada 2015 in Finland, the European

ÖISS 50th anniversary
and 2014 Congress
On 13 and 14 November 2014, the ÖISS
- Austrian Institute of School and Sport
Facility Construction - celebrated its 50th
anniversary and held a two-day conference in the framework of the Education
Fair "Interpädagogica" in Vienna.

FSB 2015
Moderne Hallen sorgen für neuen Schwung
Auch wenn die FSB erst in knapp elf
Monaten ihre Pforten in Köln öffnet, sind
die Aussichten für die internationale Fachmesse für Freiraum, Sport- und Bäderanlagen jetzt schon hervorragend. Besonderen Schwung verleiht der Fachmesse
der Umzug in die modernen Nordhallen
der Koelnmesse. Vom 27. bis 30. Oktober 2015 präsentieren sich die FSB und
die gleichzeitig stattfindende aquanale,
internationale Fachmesse für Sauna, Pool
und Ambiente, in Köln auf rund 80.000
Quadratmetern Ausstellungsfläche in den
Hallen 6, 7, 9 und 10 mit ihrem neuen
Themenhallenkonzept. Aussteller beider
Veranstaltungen profitieren zukünftig
von einer verbesserten Infrastruktur im
Bereich Nord des Kölner Messegeländes.

Damit sind alle Bereiche des privaten und
öffentlichen Schwimmbad-, Wellnessund Saunabereichs in Köln komplett auf
einer Plattform und in klar gegliederten
Themenwelten vertreten. Die inhaltliche
Dachmarke für den privaten und für den
öffentlichen Schwimmbadbereich wird
erneut das Kölner Schwimmbad- und
Wellness Forum sein, das zum sechsten
Mal in Köln stattfindet.

19. IAKS Eismeisterschulung
in Willingen (Sauerland)
Rückblick 2013:
Im Oktober 2013 zählten die FSB und
aquanale rund 25.000 Fachbesucher aus
115 Ländern. Auf der FSB zeigten 619
Anbieter aus 44 Ländern die gesamte
Bandbreite an Innovationen, Produkten
und Services aus den Bereichen Freiraum,
Sport- und Bäderanlagen. Alle marktführenden Unternehmen aus dem Inund Ausland präsentierten in Köln das
gesamte Spektrum an Innovationen, Produkten und Services aus den Bereichen
Freiraum, Spiel-, Sport- und öffentlichen
Bäderanlagen. Damit verzeichnete die FSB
2013 ein deutliches Wachstum in puncto
Fläche und Internationalität wie auch bei
den Besuchern.

Im September 2013 war Baubeginn, am 6.
Juli 2014 wurde das neue Naturfreibad mit
angrenzendem Hallenbad bereits eröffnet.
Der lagunenartige Flachwasserbereich geht
langsam in das Schwimmer- und Sprungbecken mit vier 50-m-Bahnen über. Ein
weiteres Kinderplanschbecken im Freibadbereich grenzt direkt an den Sandstrand
an. Das Bad ist sehr familienfreundlich:
Strand- und Sandlagune sowie Planschbecken mit eigener Kleinkinderrutsche, Bachlauf und Stauwehr bieten Eltern die Möglichkeit, sich am Strand zu entspannen und
gleichzeitig ihre spielenden Kinder gut im
Blick zu haben.
Mit dem neuen Belegungskonzept rund
um die Themenhallen nutzt die FSB auch
in den anderen Schwerpunktbereichen
Synergieeffekte und lässt die jeweiligen Branchen profitieren. Der Bereich
„Freiraum“ vereint die bisher getrennten Bereiche Spielgeräte/Spielplatzplanung und Freiraum/Stadtmöblierung in
einer gemeinsamen Messehalle 9 und
bildet den Treffpunkt für kommunale
und privatwirtschaftliche Entscheider,
Landschaftsarchitekten sowie Planer für
zukunftsweisende Lösungen.
Die Hallen 7 und 10 beherbergen zukünftig die Sport- und Freizeitwelten mit
Sportanlagen, Sportausstattung, Sportgeräte, Sportstättenpflege, Sportbodenbelägen, Kunstrasen sowie Eis- und Wintersport – thematisch und räumlich getrennt
nach Angeboten für den Indoor- und
Outdoorsportbereich. Zahlreiche sportliche Aktionsbereiche wie Basketball in
Kooperation mit der Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA), Soccer oder
Eislaufsport werden in den neuen Messehallen noch stärkere Akzente setzen. Die
Messebesucher erhalten auf diese Weise
tiefgründige Eindrücke in die Vielfalt von
Sport- und Freizeitinfrastruktur.
Strandfeeling
Die 19. IAKS Eismeisterschulung findet
vom 28. bis 30. April 2015 im sauerländischen Willingen statt. Die alle zwei Jahre
stattfindende Eismeisterschulung ist mit
der alternierenden „IAKS Managementtagung Kunsteisbahnen“ die einzige Fachtagung im deutschsprachigen Raum für
Betreiber und Mitarbeiter von Eisbahnen
und Eishallen. Sie wird regelmäßig von
rund ca. 150 Teilnehmern aus der gesamten Bundesrepublik Deutschland, aus
Österreich sowie den deutschsprachigen
Teilen der Schweiz, Italiens und den Niederlanden besucht.
Im Rahmen des Seminars wird auch eine
Fachausstellung stattfinden, in der die
Unternehmen der Kunsteisbahnbranche
ihre Neuerungen sowie Maschinen und
Geräte zur Eispflege vorstellen.
Für Jugendliche und Junggebliebene
wurde eine Sprunganlage mit 1-m-Brett
und 3-m-Plattform errichtet. Als neue
Attraktion gibt es eine 16 m lange Breitwellenrutsche mit eigenem Auslaufbecken. Diese Rutsche kann auch wunderbar
separat an Schlechtwettertagen betrieben
werden. Man verlässt zum Rutschen einfach die Halle und bei zu großer Kälte ist
man auch schnell wieder im Hallenbad mit
dem auf 28° C temperierten Wasser.
Das Wasser im Freibad wird nicht technisch, sondern nur durch die Sonne
beheizt. Über den flachen Lagunenbereich und die zusätzliche Oberfläche des
Geomatrix® Bodenfilters konnten bislang
immer angenehme Freibadtemperaturen
von über 23°C im Wasser erreicht werden.

IAKS Bäderforum
zeigte Lösungsansätze aus der Bäderkrise
dvs. Umfragewerte zeigten, dass der
Schwimmsport in der Bevölkerung einen
hohen Stellenwert einnimmt, die präventive und therapeutische Bedeutung des
Wassers ist jedem bewusst. Nun sollte das
Schwimmen attraktiver gestaltet werden,
damit die Häufigkeit der Schwimmbadbesuche ansteigt. Der Schwimmsport müsse
verstärkt Berücksichtigung in den Schullehrplänen finden.
Am 13.11.2014 veranstaltete die Sektion
Deutschland der IAKS in Kooperation mit
dem DOSB ein Bäderforum für Architekten, Bauherren und Betreiber. Die rund 70
Fachbesucher des IAKS Bäderforums, das
erstmalig im Rahmen der „sportinfra“ des
Landessportbundes Hessen in Frankfurt
stattfand, informierten sich am Vormittag
über die aktuelle volkswirtschaftliche Situation der Bäderlandschaften in Deutschland. Am Nachmittag verlagerte sich die
Betrachtungsweise auf konkrete Beispiele;
die Experten referierten über die Herangehensweise von der Planung bis zur Realisierung und gaben einen Ausblick auf
die Neuausrichtung.
Nach einer Einführung in das Thema
durch Prof. Dr. Robin Kähler informierte Andreas Klages vom DOSB über
Schwimmbäder in Deutschland zwischen
Finanzierungsengpass und Sportpolitik.
Die Bäderkrise, entstanden zum einen
aufgrund einer angespannten finanziellen Lage (Sanierungs- und Modernisierungsstau) und aufgrund verbesserungswürdiger politischer Kommunikation, zum
anderen aber auch aufgrund der besonderen Herausforderungen, die das Bäder
umfeld mit sich bringt, benötigt Antworten. Klages forderte den Aufbau von
mehr Wissen und Erfahrungswerten, um
somit eine übergreifende bäderpolitische
Plattform zu schaffen.
Die sportwissenschaftliche Sichtweise
zur Notwendigkeit der Bäder schilderte
Prof. Dr. Kuno Hottenrott, Präsident des

GmbH analysierte den Status quo hinsichtlich Quantität und Ökonomie der
Bäderlandschaft. In der von 2hm erstellten Studie zeigte sie, dass sich der Badebetrieb zusätzlich zu den sozialen und
integrativen Aspekten auch wirtschaftlich lohnt. Um den volkswirtschaftlichen
Gewinn allen Prozessbeteiligten zugänglich zu machen, schlussfolgerte sie, die
Profiteure der Wirtschaftskette zu animieren, die Basis ihres Erfolgs, also die Sportstätte, zu unterstützen.
In seinem Vortrag Sportentwicklungsplanung bei Bädern zeigte Prof. Dr. Robin
Kähler die derzeitigen Probleme auf und
stellte die Frage, wie die Bäderlandschaft
nachhaltig gesichert werden kann. Rückblickend auf frühere Jahrzehnte betonte
Kähler, wie wichtig der Wandel eines
kommunalen Bades ist, das den Besucher
gerne als Gast empfängt. Das Bad muss
insbesondere auch der Öffentlichkeit zur
Verfügung stehen; der Auslastungsgrad
muss optimiert werden, beispielsweise
durch Zusammenschluss konkurrierender
Vereine. Kähler plädierte für eine stärkere
Einbindung des Bürgers in den Planungsprozess; so ließen sich auch unpopuläre
Maßnahmen besser durchsetzen.
Frank Müller, Geschäftsführer der BäderBetriebe Frankfurt GmbH, gab eine kommunalpolitische Sichtweise der Bäder, und
zwar am Beispiel Frankfurts. In seinem
Einzugsgebiet fördert er die interkommunale Zusammenarbeit, z.B. im Bereich
Ausbildung. Zum Thema Gebäudesanie-
rung hat sich ein Kompetenzteam gebildet. Kommunal übergreifende Transportmittel ermöglichen den Badegästen einen
optimalen Besuch des Bades. Müller ist
ein Verfechter der Vollkostenrechnung
anstatt der Investitionskostenrechnung.
Im ersten Vortrag des Nachmittages schilderte Paul Lawitzke vom Regionalverband
Ruhr die Bedarfsplanung als vernachlässigtes Stiefkind und Kern der Bäderproblematik. Der stetige Wandel der
Gesellschaft erfordert eine vorausschauende und kontinuierliche Bäderleitplanung und deren regelmäßige Revision.
Für den Badbesucher ist der Angebotsmix wichtig. Eine Region sollte also nicht
zwingend die Bädertypen hinterfragen,
sondern vielmehr das Angebot. Lawitzke
warnte davor, ein gut funktionierendes
Bäderkonzept unbesehen auf eine andere
Region übertragen zu wollen; den spezifischen Faktoren müsse Rechung getragen
werden.
Ernst-Ulrich Tillmanns von 4a Architekten GmbH argumentierte in seinem Vortrag, dass sich die Planung ändern müsse.
Bäder müssen Sport- und Freizeitimmobilien werden. Anhand vieler gelungener Beispiele veranschaulichte er seinen
Standpunkt, dass das Bad dem Gast als
Wohlfühlraum dienen solle. Atmosphäre
ließe sich durch zahlreiche Komponenten
wie Licht, Gestaltung, Einbindung in die
Landschaft, Raum, Material, Farbe und
Funktionalität schaffen.
Im abschließenden Vortrag forderte Dr.
Christian Kuhn, Geschäftsführer der Krieger Architekten Ingenieure GmbH, mehr
Professionalität bei der Betriebsplanung,
denn dort verbergen sich ¾ der Kosten
des Lebenszyklus. Zum einen wünschte
er sich eine bessere Vernetzung von Planung und Betrieb (Erfahrungen aus der
Praxis zurückspiegeln an die Planung),
zum anderen eine Professionalisierung
des Betriebes. Wirtschaftliche Potentiale
liegen beim Wareneinsatz, der Kunden

orientierung (durch Befragung) und einer
genauen Analyse der Betriebsabläufe (z.B.
Energieflüsse, Betriebszeiten). Sein Fazit
lautete, dass Bäder der Grundversorgung
ortsnah zur Verfügung stehen sollten. Ein
professioneller Betrieb erfordere sicherlich auch kompetente Unterstützung
(gerne auch durch Dritte). Neue Konzepte
können darin bestehen, Zentren zu entwickeln, d.h. an ein Bad weitere Infrastruktur (z.B. Geschäfte) anzukoppeln und eine
Mehrfachnutzung von Umkleideräumen
und Parkplätzen anzustreben.
Die Moderatoren der Veranstaltung resümierten, dass Schwimmen als volkswirtschaftlicher Faktor einen hohen Stellenwert einnimmt, der sein Dasein nicht
mehr nur über soziale und gesundheitliche Aspekte berechtigt. Das Bad entwickelt sich weiter zum Lebensraum, in dem
der Badegast sich wohlfühlen kann. Eine
Grundversorgung für die Bewegung im
Wasser sollte immer gewährleistet sein.

Die IAKS Sektion Schweiz veranstaltete
am 28. Oktober 2014 ein Seminar zum
Thema „Management von Sportanlagen“.
Im Legends Club der Bossard Arena in
Zug konnte Präsident Dr. Stefan Kannewischer rund 85 Teilnehmer begrüßen.
Martin Bühler, Leiter Sportanlagen der
Stadt St. Gallen, zeigte in seinem Referat
Möglichkeiten zur Effizienzverbesserung in
Gemeindesportanlagen auf. Diese liegen
vor allem im Bereich Vergabe der Trainingseinheiten, Reinigung, Outsourcing, Energie, Gebührenreglement und individuelle
Nutzung. Im Bereich Gebührenreglement
ergab sich eine interessante Diskussion
über Objekt- vs. Subjektförderung.
Der Vortrag über Unterhaltsstrategien
und Wartungssystematik wurde von Dr.
Frank Wadenpohl, Institut für Facility
Management an der Zürcher Hochschule
für Angewandte Wissenschaften, gehalten. Er vermittelte einen interessanten
Überblick über die theoretischen Hintergründe und lieferte auch einen Einblick
in die Praxis der Stadt Zürich. Die Diskussion fokussierte sich auf den Abgleich von
wirtschaftlicher und technischer Lebensdauer eines Gebäudes, die in Einklang
gebracht werden müssen.

in der Schweiz vor. Diese wurden von der
großen Mehrheit der Teilnehmer befürwortet.
Die Ausführungen zum Thema Finanzierung und Organisation von Sportanlagen
für neue Sportarten übernahm Samuel
Hubschmid, Präsident von trailnet und
selbständiger Berater. Er zeigte anhand
der gemachten Erfahrungen bei der Entwicklung eines Mountainbike-Trails die
Herausforderungen im Ausgleich der Interessen auf. Die spezielle Herausforderung
liegt in der Tatsache, dass es sich hierbei
meist um öffentlichen Grund oder viele
verschiedene Eigentümer handelt.
Thomas Rogg, stellvertretender Leiter
Immobilien der Stadt Zug, und zwei Haustechniker führten die Teilnehmer dann
durch die Bossard Arena, die in ihrer technischen und funktionellen Konzeption
überzeugt. Im anschließenden Vortrag
erklärte Thomas Rogg die Ziele, Vorgehensweise und Vertragskonstellationen
der Bossard Arena. Auch die Finanzierung
in Verknüpfung mit umliegenden Nutzungen und die Resultate wurden aufgezeigt.
Abschließend führte Arjan Koelewijn,
Sales + Events des EVZ, in das Betriebskonzept des EVZ als Hauptmieter ein.
Die große Resonanz, das interessante Teilnehmerfeld und die anregenden Diskussionen zeigen die Aktualität und Bedeutsamkeit des Themas „Management von

The Swiss municipality of Riehen, bordering the city of Basel, lies in the gently widening valley of the River Wiese, near to its
confluence with the Rhine. For decades,
the local population has yearned for a
new public swimming pool to replace the
obsolescent baths by the riverbank, with
various attempts having failed.
After winning a design competition in
1979 and several unrealised projects in
the following years, Herzog & de Meuron
again started to ponder the options for
a new bathing facility. The changed perspectives brought by the intervening
years prompted the idea of abandoning
the conventional pool concept with its
mechanical and chemical water treatment
systems in favour of a pool closer to a natural condition with biological filtration.
This approach was publicly discussed
by the citizens of Riehen and officially
approved by a municipal vote. The standard geometric swimming pool transforms
into a bathing lake where the technical
systems and machine rooms vanish, to be
substituted by planted filtering cascades.
This concept led to the notion of modelling the natural pool on the local “Badi”,
Basel’s traditional wooden Rhine-side
baths, which combine a lively atmosphere
with a timeless appearance.
The site is screened on two sides by
an enclosing timber wall: on the north
towards the road and on to the west from
adjoining private properties. The southern
perimeter facing the river, on the other
hand, is open, bounded only by a green
hedge.
On the eastern front, a timber fence
merges into the amenities building, which
incorporates the entrance and supporting
facilities, while the wall along the northern and western boundaries offers a 200
m long sheltered solarium with recliners.
Yet, from all parts of the facility, attention is focused on the bathing pond at the
centre of the site.
Riehen natural pool is not large, unlike
what it has to offer. For families, there
is a toddlers’ paddling pool with fountains, a special non-swimmers’ pool with

a beach zone and slide, a 25 m swimming
pool and a separate diving pool with a 1
m board and 3 m platform. Users can also
look forward to an attractive café, various
play opportunities and modern architecture.
Pool users access the bathing area – like
in other outdoor pools – via poolside
ladders or via wooden walkways and a
gently sloping shore surfaced with pebbles. People with physical disabilities have
a swimming pool lift at their disposal. The
bathing area of Riehen natural pool covers
more than 1,000 m². For sunbathing, sitting and play there is about 5,000 m² of
space – be it on the lawn, the sun deck
or a wooden platform at the edge of the
pool.
A natural pool is an outdoor pool in which
the water is treated ecologically. Not like
in conventional outdoor pools with chemical additives, but – on the principle of the
self-purification of natural water bodies –
with biological and mechanical processes.
All the same, a natural pool is not simply
a normal water body like a lake or river.

Because behind the scenes, advanced
technology in a special water treatment
system ensures a uniformly high water
quality, clear water and underwater visibility of at least two metres. The water purity
has to meet the strict quality standards of
the Federal Health Office.
A natural swimming pool is divided into
two zones – one for bathing and a second
zone for regeneration and water treatment where the pool water is clarified
and purified. This is done by feeding the
“spent” water through a plot of aquatic
vegetation where germs are eliminated
by microorganisms to create the nutrients
required by the plants for their growth.
In addition, as in chlorinated pools, skimmers connected to pumps ensure that
suspended matter (pollen, hair, grease
etc.) is sucked off the water surface. At
Riehen natural pool, cleaning performance is enhanced by additional filter systems situated on the other side of Weilstrasse (road). From there, the hygienic
and clear water is pumped back to the
pool to complete the natural self-contained cycle.
The biological water treatment basins –
the non-mechanical “heart” of the baths
– are embedded in the sloping landscape on the opposite side of the road.
Together with various leisure facilities
provided here, they form a recreational
area open all year round to the municipal
population. In terms of ecological cleaning capacity, the baths are designed to
accommodate 2,000 bathers per day.

Naturbad Riehen
Die Schweizer Gemeinde Riehen liegt
an der Grenze zu Basel im sanft auslaufenden Tal der Wiese, einem Zufluss des
Rheins. Die Bürger von Riehen warteten seit Jahrzehnten sehnsüchtig auf ein
neues öffentliches Schwimmbad – in
einem Zeitraum von 30 Jahren schlugen
mehrere Anläufe zur Schaffung eines
Ersatzes für das veraltete Bad am Ufer der
Wiese fehl.
Herzog & de Meuron begleiteten die Planung und den Bau eines Schwimmbades für die Gemeinde Riehen von Beginn
an. Nach einem gewonnenen Wettbewerb 1979 und mehreren, ebenfalls nicht
realisierten Projekten für diesen Stand-

ort begann das Büro 2007 erneut, über
ein neues Bad nachzudenken. Statt eines
konventionellen Bades mit einer mechanisierten und chemischen Wasseraufbereitung wurde nun ein naturnahes Bad mit
biologischem Filterkreislauf favorisiert.
Dieser Ansatz wurde von den Bürgern
der Gemeinde Riehen öffentlich diskutiert und in einer Abstimmung für gut
befunden. Das übliche, geometrische
Schwimmbecken mutierte zum Badesee, die technischen Maschinenräume
und Anlagen verschwanden zugunsten
von kaskadenartigen, bepflanzten Filterterrassen. Die hölzernen Basler Rheinschwimmbäder mit ihrer zeitlosen Erschei-
nung vor Augen, entstand der architektonische Leitgedanke, das Naturbad in
dieser lebendigen Tradition der Schweizer
„Badi“ zu entwickeln.
Mit zwei Seiten an einer abknickenden
Straße gelegen und im Westen an ein Privatgrundstück stoßend, schirmt sich das
Bad zu diesen Nachbarn mit einer hölzernen Umfassungswand ab. Nach Süden,
zum Fluss öffnet sich die Anlage – sie wird
nur durch eine grüne Hecke begrenzt.
Die Umfassungswand entwickelt sich
im Osten zum Badehaus mit dem Eingang und den zugehörigen Nutzungen,
während die Holzwand im Norden und

Westen ein über 200 m langes überdachtes Solarium mit Liegebänken beherbergt.
All diese Teile des Bades fokussieren den
Blick auf die Mitte der Anlage: den Badesee.
Die Badegäste erreichen den Badebereich
– wie in anderen Freibädern auch – über
Beckenzugänge oder über Holzstege und
gekieste Flachufer. Menschen mit körperlichen Einschränkungen steht zudem ein
Schwimmbadlift zur Verfügung. Die Badefläche des Naturbad Riehen ist mehr als
1.000 m² groß. Liegen, sitzen und spielen
lässt sich auf rund 5.000 m² – sei es auf
dem Rasen, auf dem Sonnendeck oder
einer Holzplattform am Beckenrand.
Das Naturbad Riehen ist nicht groß, sein
Angebot ist es schon: Für Familien mit
Kindern gibt es ein Kleinkinderplanschbecken mit Wasserspielen, ein spezielles
Nichtschwimmerbecken mit Strandbereich und Rutschbahn, ein 25-m-Schwimmerbecken und ein separates Sprungbecken mit 1-m-Brett und 3-m-Plattform.
Außerdem erwarten die Gäste ein attraktives Café, diverse Spielangebote und
moderne Architektur.
Ein Naturbad ist ein Freibad, in dem die
Wasseraufbereitung ökologisch erfolgt.
Nicht wie in herkömmlichen Freibädern
mit chemischen Zusätzen, sondern – in
Anlehnung an die Selbstreinigungskraft

natürlicher Gewässer – durch biologischmechanische Prozesse. Ein Naturbad ist
aber nicht einfach ein „normales“ Gewässer wie ein See oder ein Fluss, denn im
Hintergrund sorgt modernste Technik in
einer speziellen Wasseraufbereitungsanlage für eine gleichbleibend hohe Wasserqualität, klares Wasser und eine Sichttiefe
von mindestens zwei Metern.
Ein Naturschwimmbad ist in zwei Nutzungsbereiche gegliedert: den öffentlichen Nutzungsbereich für das Baden
sowie einen Regenerationsbereich für die
Wasseraufbereitung. In diesem Bereich
findet die Klärung und Reinigung des
Badewassers statt. Dies geschieht, indem
„abgebadetes“ Wasser durch einen mit
Wasserpflanzen bepflanzten Bodenkörper
geleitet wird. Dabei werden Keime durch
Mikroorganismen eliminiert und die Pflanzen nehmen die Nährstoffe im Wasser für
ihr Wachstum auf. Zusätzlich sorgen, wie
in gechlorten Bädern auch, an Pumpen
angeschlossene Skimmer dafür, dass
Schwebestoffe (Pollen, Haare, Fette usw.)
von der Wasseroberfläche abgesogen
werden. Im Naturbad Riehen wird die Reinigungsleistung durch zusätzliche, auf der
anderen Seite der Weilstraße gelegene
Filteranlagen gesteigert. Von dort wird
das hygienische und klare Badewasser im
Sinne eines geschlossenen, natürlichen
Kreislaufs ins Bad zurückgepumpt.
Der Regenerationsbereich für die biologische Wasseraufbereitung ist landschaftlich in den Hang auf der anderen Seite der
Straße eingebettet. Zusammen mit einigen
Freizeitangeboten formt sie dort einen das
ganze Jahr über frei zugänglichen Bereich
zur Erholung der Bürger von Riehen. Das
Bad ist von seiner ökologischen Reinigungskapazität her auf 2000 Badegästen
pro Tag ausgelegt.

With the opening of the Harbour Bath,
the inner city waterfront of Faaborg has
finally opened up to public activities like
bathing and recreation. This new public
space on the water adds a new dimension of recreational activity to the beautiful South Funen Archipelago. The Harbour Bath is designed to tie a closer link
between the city and the sea. Three thematic piers give room for everyone: toddlers, children and young people can
go wild while others enjoy the view of
Faaborg Fjord.
The “finger plan” with open basins
between the three piers offers multiple
ways to approach the water. The wooden
piers form ramps, stairs, sitting opportunities and small pools for children. The new
development invites to take a bath, go
on a kayak tour, go for a walk or just sit
in the sun or simply enjoy an exciting and
active public space.

The project invites for swimming and onwater actvity. It offers changing rooms
and facilities for rowers, a diving platform, a waterplayground and a sauna for
the winter bathers. The architects’ intention was not to overload the project in
advance, but to create a frame for an
unknown content, a place for public life
to unfold, the unexpected to happen, in
other words a place that people can adapt
in their own ways.

Erwarte das
Unerwartete
Mit der Eröffnung des Harbour Bath
wurde der Hafen der dänischen Kleinstadt Faaborg auf der malerischen Insel
Fünen endlich der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Diese neue Anlage auf dem
Wasser verleiht dem Süden der Insel ein
spektakuläres neues Freizeitangebot.
Ziel der Planung war eine engere Verbindung von Stadt und Meer. Drei unterschiedliche Themen-Piers bieten für jeden
etwas: Kleinkinder, Kinder und Jugendliche können sich hier richtig austoben,
während die anderen die Aussicht auf den
Faaborg Fjord genießen.
Die wie Finger in das Hafenbecken hineinreichenden drei Holzpiers bieten neben
Rampen, Treppen, Sitzgelegenheiten und
kleinen Kinderbecken sehr unterschiedliche Zugänge zum Wasser. Das Harbour
Bath lädt zum Baden ein, zu einer Kajaktour, zu einem Spaziergang, zum Sonnenbaden oder einfach zu einem unterhaltsamen Aufenthalt auf einer aufregenden
und abwechslungsreichen öffentlichen
Anlage.
Das Projekt bietet ideale Bedingungen für
das Schwimmen und andere Wassersportarten. Es gibt Umkleiden – am „Fuße“ der
drei „Finger“ – und weitere Einrichtungen für Ruderer, eine Sprunganlage, einen
Wasserspielplatz und eine Sauna für die
Winterschwimmer.
Die Architekten wollten das Programm
jedoch nicht überladen, sondern vielmehr den Rahmen schaffen für einen
unbekannten Inhalt, einen Ort, an dem
das öffentliche Leben sich entfalten und
das Unerwartete sich ereignen kann, mit
anderen Worten: einen Ort, der sich den
Wünschen und Vorstellungen der Besucher anpasst.
Das Projekt wurde gemeinschaftlich von
URBAN AGENCY und JDS entwickelt,
mit Unterstützung von Sloth Møller
Engineers und CREO. Auftraggeber war
die Stadt Faaborg-Midtfyn mit Unterstützung der Realdania Stiftung und

No one likes to forego something that
works and that one has become accustomed to. And this is certainly true in
Lippstadt, Westphalia, where an indoor
pool (Jakob-Koenen-Bad) in the town
centre and the outdoor pool had to
be closed. According to an analysis of
demand, however, there was still a need
for an indoor and outdoor pool.
The task in hand was therefore obvious.
What was required was a cost-effective
strategy that would reconcile the needs of
pool users, schools and clubs – and provide both types of pool. In the subsequent
standard tendering procedure for architects and engineers, KRIEGER Architekten |
Ingenieure made the best impression with
a solution for a family-friendly and competition-oriented all-weather pool on the
site of the old outdoor pool.
Planning got underway in December 2009
with construction starting in September
2011. Since opening in May 2013, the
combination pool has exceeded all expectations. In a satisfaction survey after a year
of operation, 96 % of those interviewed
awarded the new CabrioLi pool the ratings of “good” or “very good”. From its
opening until the end of September 2014,
some 241,000 public users and roughly
70,000 visitors from schools and clubs
had enjoyed the pleasures of swimming
and bathing in water with a total surface
area of 1,000 m².

The name says it all: CabrioLi is distinguished by its folding roof over the leisure
area which in fine weather can be fully
opened within nine minutes. This area
comprises a fun pool with a swimming
channel, underwater massage beds and a
climbing frame.
The bathing needs of smaller users have
also been catered for. They can have fun
in the children’s pool with its Viking ship
and in a paddling pool with a seal that
squirts water. These two pools are also
sited beneath the folding roof. So that
users large and small can relax, comfortable sun loungers are provided beside the
pool and in the gallery along one side.
The restaurant, which offers an exten-
sive range of food and drink, is located
between the foyer and the children’s fun
area. For club celebrations or children’s
birthdays, a multifunctional room is also
available.
One of the highlights is the “Lippracer”.
This is a Black Hole giant flume in which
the courageous can plunge into darkness
from a height of 10 m over a length of 85
m and a gradient of 11 %. Surprising light
effects and the possibility of using photoelectric cells to precisely time the descent
make the slide a special experience. The
racer with its engine sound also makes
competition possible: daily, monthly and
all-time best times are measured, and it is
possible to compete one against one or in
group mode. As a single slide, this is new
and thus effectively constitutes a world
premiere.
Another special feature of CabrioLi is the
course swimming pool that belongs to the
competition area of the pool. Depending
on its use, the water depth can be varied
in 0.3 m increments to a maximum of
1.8 m. Illuminations with a light projector and matching underwater music and
lighting create a special kind of relaxing
atmosphere after the swimming instruction. Films showing impressions of coastal
views, mountain streams or moor landscapes transport the pool user into other
worlds.
To meet the needs of competitive swimming, the 25 m competition pool with its
six lanes is available both to the general
public and, at certain times, to clubs and
schools. An opportunity for regeneration,
particularly after competitive swimming, is
offered by the textile sauna adjoining the
competition area with space for up to 15
persons.
With clearly demarcated zones, the architecture reflects the facility’s different uses.
On the organisational level, this is also
achieved with the aid of an access control
system specially developed for CabrioLi.
Via a separate entrance, club members
can gain entry at their training times by

using a programmed coin. This takes the
pressure off public bathing and makes
parallel usage possible without disruption. This is very useful, as there is bigger
demand at CabrioLi for use by clubs than
at other competition pools.
Warm summer weather at CabrioLi can
be enjoyed not only with the folding roof
open and the concertina walls of the
glass façade folded away, but in the outdoor pool area as well. The competition
and diving pool with seven 25 m lanes is
equipped with 1 m and 3 m boards. This
pool is smaller than its 50 m predecessor
for reasons of cost and space. Sun lovers
can quench their thirst with chilled drinks
at the beach bar or kiosk and enjoy a wide
range of snacks. In addition to the sandy
beach, there are other sand areas with a

children’s playground and two beach volleyball courts which can also be used as
a beach soccer pitch. Spacious terraces
and sunbathing lawns provide the necessary space for time-out and relaxation.
The existing trees have been deliberately
retained and give CabrioLi today not only
natural shading from the sun, but also a
special atmosphere.
The technical installations are as adjustable as the architecture. The pool is
heated by a modular cogeneration plant.
For redundancy and to permit largescale maintenance, temporary connection points are available in the grounds
to which heat generation of any kind can
be connected within a container. The
cogeneration plants are programmed to
yield optimum annual rates of capacity
utilisation. The gas system is designed to
accommodate a second modular cogeneration plant, should one becomes necessary.

Ingenieure have made CabrioLi a timeless
pool. This finds expression in its rectilinear architecture and its colour scheme of
warm wood and sand colours, harmonious shades of green and the blue of the
water.
The secret of the success of this project
is the successful interplay of many factors and contributors: the definition of
the task based on a precise estimation of
needs, the architectural strategy tailored
perfectly to this, and a creative and forward-looking management concept.

Der Name ist Programm
Das CabrioLi in Lippstadt
Was sich bewährt hat und woran man
sich gewöhnt hat, darauf möchte man
nicht verzichten. Diese Devise gilt auch im
westfälischen Lippstadt, wo ein Hallenbad (Jakob-Koenen-Bad) im Zentrum und
das Freibad geschlossen werden mussten.
Laut Bedarfsanalyse sollten aber weiterhin
sowohl ein Hallen- als auch ein Freibad
zur Verfügung stehen.
umfrage nach einem Jahr Betriebszeit
bewerteten 96% der Befragten das neue
CabrioLi mit „gut" bzw. „sehr" gut. Seit
der Eröffnung bis Ende September 2014
erfreuten sich ca. 241.000 öffentliche
Gäste sowie ca. 70.000 Besucher von
Schulen und Vereinen an dem Bade- und
Schwimmspaß auf insgesamt über 1.000
m² Wasserfläche.
Damit war die Aufgabenstellung klar: Ein
wirtschaftliches Konzept musste her, das
die Bedürfnisse von öffentlichen Badegästen, Schulen und Vereinen unter
einen Hut bringt – und beide Angebote
bereit hält. Im folgenden VOF-Verfahren
konnten KRIEGER Architekten I Ingenieure überzeugen. Ihr Konzept sah vor, ein
familienfreundliches und sportorientiertes
Allwetterbad auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Freibades zu errichten.
Der Name ist Programm: Das CabrioLi
zeichnet sich durch sein Cabriodach über
dem Freizeitbereich aus, das sich bei schönem Wetter innerhalb von neun Minuten komplett auffahren lässt. In diesem
Bereich befinden sich ein Erlebnisbecken
mit Strömungskanal, Unterwassermassageliegen und Klettergerüst.
Mit der Planung wurde im Dezember
2009 begonnen, Baubeginn war im September 2011. Seit der Eröffnung im Mai
2013 übertrifft das neue Kombibad alle
Erwartungen. In einer Zufriedenheitssb 6/2014
Auch für den Badespaß der kleinen Gäste
ist gesorgt: Sie können sich im Kinderbecken mit Wikingerschiff sowie einem
Kleinkinderbecken mit Wasserspritzseehund vergnügen. Diese beiden Becken
liegen ebenfalls unter dem Cabrio-Dach.

am Beckenrand sowie auf der längsseitig

angeordneten Empore bequeme Liegestühle zur Verfügung. Die Gastronomie
befindet sich zwischen Foyer und Kinder

Multifunktionsraum zur Verfügung.
Ein Highlight stellt der „Lippracer" dar.
Das ist eine Black-Hole-Riesenrutsche, mit
der sich Mutige aus 10 m Höhe über eine
Länge von 85 m und einem Gefälle von
11% in die Dunkelheit stürzen können.
Überraschende Lichteffekte und Illuminationen sowie die Möglichkeit, die Rutschzeit durch den Einsatz von Lichtschranken genau messen zu lassen, machen die
Abfahrt zu einem besonderen Erlebnis.
Der Racer mit Motorengeräusch lässt vor
allem Wettkämpfe zu: Gemessen werden
Tages-, Monats- oder Allzeitbestzeiten, und man kann gegen einen direkten
Gegner oder im Gruppenmodus antreten.
Als Einzelrutsche ist dies eine Neuheit und
stellt damit quasi eine Weltpremiere dar.

Eine weitere Besonderheit des CabrioLi ist
das Kursschwimmbecken, das dem Sportbereich des Hallenbades zugeordnet ist.
Je nach Nutzung lässt sich die Wassertiefe
in 0,3 m-Schritten auf bis zu 1,80 m variieren. Illuminationen per Beamer sowie
abgestimmte Unterwassermusik und
-beleuchtung schaffen nach den Kursen
eine entspannende Atmosphäre der ganz
besonderen Art. Filme mit Impressionen
von Küstenlandschaften, Gebirgsbächen
oder Moorlandschaften entführen den
Badegast in eine andere Welt.
Dem sportlichen Anspruch entsprechend
steht das 25-m-Sportbecken mit seinen
sechs Bahnen sowohl der Öffentlichkeit
und zu bestimmten Zeiten Vereinen und
Schulen zur Verfügung. Eine Möglichkeit
zur Regeneration, besonders nach dem
Sportschwimmen, bietet die dem Sportbereich angeschlossene Textilsauna mit
Platz für bis zu 15 Personen.
Die unterschiedlichen Nutzungsanforderungen wurden nicht nur architektonisch
durch eine klare Bereichsbildung berücksichtigt. Mittels einer speziell für das
CabrioLi entwickelten Zutrittskontrolle
werden diese auch organisatorisch gelöst.
Durch eine autarke Zutrittsmöglichkeit
sind Vereinsmitglieder in der Lage, sich zu
ihrer jeweiligen Trainingszeit mit einem
„programmierten" Coin über einen separaten Eingang Zutritt zu verschaffen. Dies
entlastet den öffentlichen Badebetrieb
und macht eine störungsfreie Parallelnutzung möglich. Das ist sehr nützlich, da das
CabrioLi im Vergleich zu anderen Sportbädern einen höheren Bedarf an Vereinssport aufweist.
Warmes Sommerwetter kann im CabrioLi
nicht nur bei geöffnetem Cabrio-Dach
und beiseite geschobenen Faltwänden
der Glasfassade genossen werden, sondern auch im Freibadbereich: Das Sportund Springerbecken mit sieben Bahnen

3-m-Brett ausgestattet. Das abgängige
50-m-Becken wurde hier aus Kostenund Platzgründen reduziert. Sonnenanbeter können sich an der Beach-Bar oder
dem Kiosk mit kühlen Getränken erfrischen und dazu vielfältige Snacks genießen. Neben einem „Sandstrand" gibt es
weitere Sandbereiche mit Kinderspielplatz und zwei Beachvolleyballfeldern, die
auch als Beachsoccerfeld genutzt werden
können. Großzügige Terrassen und Liegewiesen bieten den notwendigen Raum
für Rückzug und Entspannung. Der alte
Baumbestand wurde bewusst erhalten
und verleiht dem CabrioLi heute nicht nur
natürlichen Sonnenschutz, sondern auch
eine besondere Atmosphäre.
Ebenso wie die Architektur ist auch die
Technik variabel angelegt. Die Beheizung
des Bades erfolgt über ein BHKW. Zur
Redundanz und bei größeren Wartungsarbeiten stehen im Außenbereich mobile

The multifunctional swimming pool and
club accommodation 'De Geusselt' is
the beating heart of the Geusseltpark in
Maastricht. The park strings together various public functions in a slightly sloping
landscape. The sports complex reinforces
this image: situated on a hilltop it connects both programmatically and spatially
the adjacent sports park with the green
fields of the park. The small scale of the
volumes gives the building a pavilion-like
character.
The complex houses five pools (a leisure
pool, a combipool, a competition pool,
an instruction pool and an outdoor pool),
but also club facilities for four local sports
clubs: a hockey club, two football clubs

vibrant atmosphere during both day and
night. The functional layout and routing
enables users to share many central functions but also gives them the opportunity
to retreat to their own club atmosphere
and activities.

The energy consumption is minimized
through optimal use of natural light and
high insulation values. The strong ambitions in terms of sustainability called for a
comprehensive combination of innovative
installations. This has resulted in a system
where the connection to the gas network
is made redundant: the complex operates fully electrical and has proven to be
carbon neutral. A considerable contribution is provided by photovoltaic panels,
solar collectors serving the heating of pool
water and heat pumps, which extract heat
from underground water sources.
The complex is partly sunken into the hill
of the park. The construction is a combination of a concrete base with timber

frame elements. The application of structural wooden elements has many advantages: durable material usage, large
spans, fast construction, high insulation
values and a warm appearance for the
pool interior. These structural elements
are combined with prefabricated acoustic
wooden roof panels filled with wood chip
insulation.
For the facades a new cradle-to-cradle
ceramic tile has been developed together
with Mosa Facades. This cooperation
did not come out of the blue: Mosa is a
stone's throw away from the pool complex and forms part of Maastricht's rich
ceramic tradition.
Despite the scale and complexity of the
programme, slangen + koenis architects
sought to create a design that is sophisticated and durable at all levels: by incorporating the volume into the landscape,
optimal accessibility, good user comfort,
functional operation possibilities, low
energy consumption and minimized environmental impact.
Which theme will dominate sports
architecture in the near future?
Beyond technical sustainable solutions,
we have to challenge ourselves more and
more to accomplish the same on a societal, political and economical level. The
goal is to create long-lasting solutions for
a changing demand in activities, technologies and public interest.

Which is your favourite sports facility?
And why?
The Leca public swimming pools (Alvaro
Siza) and the soccer stadium in Braga
(Eduardo Souto de Moura) intrigue me
because of their open character and integration with nature. As a swimming pool
specialist I‘m also inspired by the quality
of the interior of London‘s Aquatics centre
(Hadid).
The building combines a unique series of
innovative solutions in the field of installations, the custom-developed concrete,
timber frame elements, triple glazing,
use of geothermal energy and more. The
exceptional energy performance (a consumption of 1/3 in relation to a comparable building) is acknowledged by the first
and only BREEAM certification for a swimming pool complex in the Netherlands.

favourite club? What does this sport
mean to you as an architect?
All sports, and their sports clubs, give
inspiration and motivation. With no particular club in mind, we enjoy the typical popular sports here like swimming,
ice-skating and soccer. To see so many
people passionately involved, it shows
the social importance of creating the best
sports facilities.

„De Geusselt“ in Maastricht
Die multifunktionale Schwimmbad- und
Vereinsanlage „De Geusselt“ ist das Herzstück des Geusseltparks in Maastricht.
Der auf einem sanften Hanggelände gelegene Park integriert verschiedene öffentliche Anlagen. Der Sportkomplex selbst
ist auf einer Hügelkuppe angeordnet und
verbindet programmatisch wie räumlich
die angrenzenden Sportflächen mit den
Grünzonen des Parks. Aufgrund seiner
vergleichsweise geringen Größe erinnert
das Gebäude an einen Pavillon.

Der Komplex verfügt über fünf
Schwimmbecken (Spaßbecken, Kombibecken, Wettkampfbecken, Lehrbecken, Außenbecken) sowie über Räumlichkeiten für vier örtliche Vereine (einen
Hockeyverein, zwei Fußballvereine, einen
Boule-Verein). Über diese Kombination
verschiedener Funktionen und Aktivitäten wird sichergestellt, dass die Anlage
tagsüber und abends gleichermaßen
intensiv genutzt werden kann. Das funktionale Layout und Wegesystem bieten
problemlosen Zugang zu den zahlreichen zentralen Funktionsbereichen,
ermöglichen jedoch gleichzeitig auch die
ausschließliche Ausübung der eigenen
Sportart in Vereinsatmosphäre.

Facilitating individual sports, indoor as
well as outdoor, and optimizing the operation of sports facilities by introducing a
higher multifunctional usage.
Which is your favourite sport and
favourite club? What does this sport
mean to you as an architect?
All kinds of sports have my interest for
different reasons; gladly I do not need to
choose. The one which interests me as an
architect is Formula 1, mainly because of
its complexity and duality. On one hand
it‘s a team sport, on the other it‘s an individual sport as a driver, it has a unique
combination of technical and athletical
skills and it symbolizes the key characteristic of top sport, which is perfection on
all levels to achieve results.
Which is your favourite sports facility?
And why?
Our 2521 SimplySwimming concept for
the Royal Dutch Swimming Association,
because the building is seen as an instrument to reach a perfect balance between
very low operation costs and high income.
This will make swimming sports more
affordable for all people.

erheblichen Beitrag hierzu leisten Solarpanels, Sonnenkollektoren, über die das
Wasser der verschiedenen Schwimmbecken beheizt wird, und Wärmepumpen,
die dem Grundwasser Wärme entziehen.
Teile des Komplexes sind in das Hangprofil des Parks integriert. Bei der Konstruktion handelt es sich um eine Kombination
aus Betonsockel und Holzständerwerk.
Die Anwendung von Strukturholzelemen-

ten bietet viele Vorteile: Verwendung
nachhaltiger Materialien, Eignung auch
für große Spannbreiten, schnelle Bauweise, hohe Dämmwerte und eine warme
Atmosphäre im Inneren des Bades. Diese
Strukturelemente wurden kombiniert mit
vorgefertigten Lärmschutz-Dachpaneelen
aus Holz und einer Holzspandämmung.
Für die Fassade wurde gemeinsam mit
Mosa Facades eine neue nachhaltige
Keramikfliese entwickelt. Diese Zusam-
menarbeit war kein Zufall: Der Standort
von Mosa befindet sich nur einen Steinwurf von der Schwimmanlage entfernt,
das Unternehmen ist in der langen Keramiktradition der Region Maastricht fest
verwurzelt.
Trotz des Umfangs und der Komplexität
des Projekts hat das Architekturbüro slangen + koenis ein Konzept entwickelt, das
auf allen Ebenen nicht nur mit Blick auf
das Design, sondern auch in Bezug auf

So wurde die Anlage in die Landschaft
integriert und gewährleistet optimale Barrierefreiheit, hohe Benutzerfreundlichkeit
und Funktionalität, niedrigen Energieverbrauch und hohe Umweltverträglichkeit.
Das Gebäude vereint eine einzigartige
Fülle innovativer Lösungen, angefangen von den hochmodernen technischen
Anlagen bis hin zu Materialien wie Spezialbeton, Holzständerwerk, Dreifach-

verglasung, Erdwärme usw. Die herausragende Energieleistung (der Energieverbrauch liegt um zwei Drittel niedriger als
bei vergleichbaren Gebäuden) wurde mit
der ersten und einzigen BREEAM-Zertifizierung für ein Schwimmbad in den Niederlanden gewürdigt.

The East Bohemian town of Litomyšl
in the Czech Republic is famous for its
Renaissance castle, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. In order to provide the
numerous visitors to the town with other
attractions, an ever evolving sports park
(“Černá Hora”) arose in the north-east of
the 10,000-inhabitant town. It boasts an
open-air pool, fitness club and stadium,
and the latest addition is a swimming pool
designed by the firm DRNH architektonická from Brno. The three-storey structure has been sensitively integrated into
its environment, with its wave shape very
skilfully and effortlessly creating a link to
swimming and the landscape.
Both the architectural and site designs
were very respectful of the project purpose and the site’s green context, incorporating a sizeable protruding roof, mature
trees, shrubs and grass-covered areas
sloping down from the Černá Hora massif
to the town.
The overall volume of the hall was
reduced as much as possible by fragmenting the structure into several modules that
have been softly modelled into organic
curved lines so that the shell of the building is visually linked to the Černá Hora
slope. The grass-covered areas smoothly
merge into the sheet-metal roof. Hall
modules of different sizes meet in a
rounded top, from where they continue
sloping down like a shed roof towards the
site’s western border. The structure’s visual
impact is minimised, especially on all sides
visible from the town. The excavated soil
has been reused for landscaping, thus
reducing hall operation and energy costs.
The project has been designed on “landscape architecture” principles and meets
all the parameters of an energy-saving
building.
The building is situated in the immediate
vicinity of an outdoor swimming pool with
which it can be operationally intercon-

nected in summer. The hall itself is functionally divided into three floors, forming operational sections: the technology
is located in the basement and on the
first floor, while the whole ground floor is
dedicated to the public and their waterbased relaxation. The swimming pool
hall itself has been designed as a central
space stretching vertically over two floors
roofed with a shed roof sloping down to
the western side of the site, which is visually completely open to an external leisure
space incorporating a patio with greenery
and the outer part of the swim-through
pool.
The hall accommodates a 25 m swimming
pool with five lanes, a fun pool for nonswimmers, a whirlpool and a steam room.
The summer leisure patio can be accessed
from the slide hall, which is formed by a
modular protrusion from the central hall
finishing with a vertical element in the
form of a tower for climbing up to the top

of the slide. The slide hall features an exit
to the external part of the swim-through
pool, with ergonomically shaped benches
and aerators (aerating nozzles).

(clear) tint. The roofing is made of pre-oxidised titanium-zinc sheets.
The main building structure is a combination of in-situ cast reinforced concrete and
steelwork supporting the roof and transparent cladding. The wooden roof forms
a compact structure with foamed-glass
thermal insulation and steel sheet roofing
with vertical joints. Natural materials have
been selected in their natural (original)
colours and patterns: reinforced fair-faced
concrete reflecting the pattern of the
splinter board formwork for load-bearing
elements, black granite for the floor on
the ground floor and external patio, and
ground-down concrete for the floor in the
technical rooms. The articulated wooden
roof structure is in the form of transparent
glaze–painted, glued trusses with acoustic
ceiling panels inserted between them. The

Schwimmhalle in Litomyšl
Die ostböhmische Stadt Litomyšl in Tschechien ist für ihr Renaissance-Schloss
bekannt. Es gehört zum UNESCO-Welterbe. Um den zahlreichen Besuchern der
Stadt weitere Attraktionen zu bieten, entstand im Nordosten der 10.000 Einwohner-Stadt ein stetig wachsender Sportpark
(„Černá Hora“) mit Freibad, Fitnesscenter
und Stadion, dessen jüngstes Mitglied ein
Schwimmbad des Büros DRNH architek-
tonická aus Brno ist. Der dreigeschossige
Baukörper wurde mit großem Gespür in
seine Umgebung eingefügt, seine Wellenform stellt sehr gekonnt und mühelos den
Bezug zum Schwimmen und zur Landschaft her.
Fokus, so dass der Komplex auf dem zur
Stadt hin abfallenden Hang des ČernáHora-Massivs nicht nur von einem ausladenden Dachüberstand gekennzeichnet
ist, sondern zudem von altem Baumbestand, Sträuchern und Grasflächen.

und das grüne Umfeld gleichermaßen im

Module wurden zu organisch geschwungenen Linien geformt, die den Baukörper optisch mit dem Berghang des Černá
Hora verschmelzen lassen. Fast nahtlos
geht die Rasenfläche des Geländes auf
der Straßenseite in das wellenförmige
Dach aus Titanzinkblech über. Unterschiedlich große Hallenmodule schließen
sich unter einem gewölbten Dach zusammen, das zur westlichen Grundstücksgrenze fließend in das Gelände übergeht.
Der visuelle Einfluss der Anlage wurde
minimiert, insbesondere an den der Stadt
zugewandten Seiten. Der Erdaushub
wurde zur Geländegestaltung verwendet, um die Betriebs- und Energiekosten
der Schwimmhalle zu senken. Das Projekt
wurde landschaftsarchitektonisch optimiert und erfüllt alle Anforderungen eines
Niedrigenergiegebäudes.
Im Sommer ist ein Einheitsbetrieb zusammen mit dem angrenzenden Freibad möglich. Die eigentliche Schwimmhalle ist in
drei Funktionsebenen unterteilt: Während
die technische Infrastruktur im Keller- und
Obergeschoss untergebracht wurde, ist
das Erdgeschoss ganz den Gästen und
dem Badebetrieb vorbehalten. Das Blechdach der zweigeschossigen Schwimmhalle ergießt sich wellenförmig zur westlichen Seite des Geländes. Die Schwimmhalle öffnet sich visuell zum externen
Freizeitbereich mit begrüntem Patio und
über eine Schwimmschleuse erreichbaren
Außenpool.
Im Inneren der Halle sind ein 25-MeterBecken mit fünf Bahnen, ein Spaßbad für
Nichtschwimmer, ein Whirlpool und ein
Dampfbad untergebracht. Die Sommerterrasse ist über einen modularen Anbau
erreichbar, der in ein turmartiges Element
mündet, über das man zu den Rutschen
gelangt. In diesem Anbau befindet sich
auch die Schwimmschleuse zum Außenbecken, das mit ergonomisch geformten
Bänken und Luftsprudlern ausgestattet
ist.

Der Hauptgebäudekörper besteht aus
Ortbeton und Stahlträgern, die als Tragwerk für das Dach und die transparente
Fassadenverkleidung dienen. Die hölzerne Dachkonstruktion bildet eine kompakte Struktur aus Glasfaserisolierplatten
und Titanzinkblech mit vertikalen Streben. Es wurden Naturmaterialien in ihren
ursprünglichen (natürlichen) Farben und
Mustern gewählt: heller Sichtbeton, der
das Muster der OSB-Schalungsplatten
aufnimmt, schwarzer Granit als Bodenbelag für Erdgeschoss und Außenterrasse
und geschliffener Beton für die Böden
in den Technikräumen. Der gegliederte
hölzerne Dachaufbau besteht aus farblos
lackierten Leimholzbindern mit integrierten schallisolierenden Dachplatten. Die
Stahlkonstruktion in der Schwimmhalle ist
mehrfach mit silbergrauer Farbe lackiert.
Die Glasfassade ist mit farbloser, wärmeisolierender Dreifachverglasung versehen.
Die Bedachung besteht aus voroxidierten
Titanzinkblechelementen.

The “Entdeckerbad” or “Discovers’ Pool”
in the small German Baltic town of Damp
(population 1,400) has been built on the
site of an antiquated leisure pool. The goal
of the new project was to create a modern
new swimming pool to the highest technical standards that would incorporate
and visually express the design themes of
the Baltic Sea, Vikings and Nordic culture.

about Nordic culture, the Baltic and the
life of the Vikings in a playful manner at
three different information cubes (“Eventcubes”). These contain various small-scale
experiments, exhibits and a cinema.
The facility’s modern leisure offering
includes a 96 m long family slide, an outdoor pool with a direct view of the Baltic
Sea and a sauna village in the style of
Viking houses. The array of pools has a
strong family orientation, and a rest and
relaxation zone has been created with
three different sauna buildings. Because
of its location right on the Baltic coast, the
building, slide and sauna buildings had to
be founded on over 200 piles.
Visitors access the two-storey building at
ground-floor level via the open, two-storey
entrance hall. This is where the staff and
ancillary rooms and pool plant are located.

A free-standing staircase in the form of
a Viking ship affords access to the bathing level. From the open gallery, users gain
their first glimpse of the bathing area.
Designed without the classical segregation
of outdoor shoe and barefoot zones, the
changing area can accommodate 410 visitors at any one time. Ten changing places
are barrier-free. A wheelchair changing
place and clothes lockers accessible to
wheelchair users have been integrated in
the changing area. Thanks to separate disabled changing rooms and sanitary installations, the disabled enjoy equal treatment
and independence.
The bathing area proper takes the form
of a hall with spacious glazing overlooking the Baltic while having opaque walls to
the south. The large-span roof construction
consists of a steel directional load-bearing
structure on reinforced concrete columns.
A suspended ceiling of fabric is illuminated
by modern lasers, and the Northern Lights
effects lend spectacular expression to the
predominant theme. The large swimming
pool takes the shape of the Baltic Sea, and
artistically shaped rocky landscapes are
reminiscent of Scandinavian skerries.
A play zone for toddlers and a self-service
restaurant are also provided – as are sufficient reclining and rest areas. The outdoor
pool with its bubble loungers and water
jets is accessed directly from the bathing
area via a channel.
The family slide accessed separately via a
slide tower can be used by up to three persons at a time on inflatable tubes. Changing flume diameters and various light
effects are attuned to the predominant
theme. The slide exit is on the entrance
level and offers an unusual view of the
swimming hall above via an opening like a
rock crevice in the ceiling.
Inspired by the Haithabu museum village
close by, the three buildings of the outdoor
sauna have been modelled on a Viking village. The sauna area within is entered via an
additional turnstile straight from the bathing
area. In the main Viking building are a rest
zone, sauna restaurant, cool-off area and
toilets. The three different outdoor saunas
are made of timber with thatched roofs and
appropriate interior design.
The swimming pool is heated via a transfer station connected to the existing district heating network. The rooms are
almost entirely supplied with heat via the
ventilation system. Only in the dry areas
such as staff rooms, store rooms, entrance
hall etc., are tubular radiators provided.
The building is supplied with fresh air
by four ventilation systems, distributed
according to temperature and use. Highgrade heat-recovery systems ensure minimal energy consumption. The filter system
employed uses low-pressure filters conforming to DIN 19643. Via a sludge water
treatment system, the filter backflushing
water is treated so that 75 % of the water
can be returned to the pool circuit. About
10 % is used as grey water in a separate
pipe network for the flushing of toilets
and urinals.
This holiday region now has a thoroughly
attractive, modern and forward-looking
pool complex at its disposal in the shape of
the new “Entdeckerbad” in Damp.

Entdeckerbad in Damp
Das „Entdeckerbad“ in der kleinen Ostsee-Gemeinde Damp (1.400 Einwohner)
entstand auf dem Gelände eines in die
Jahre gekommenen Freizeitbades. Neben
einem modernen Schwimmbadneubau
und der Umsetzung höchster technischer
Standards sollte das neue Freizeitbad die
Themen „Ostsee“,„Wikinger“ und „Nordische Kultur“ gestalterisch umsetzen und
diese erlebbar machen. Spielerisch kann
der Gast während des Badevergnügens
in drei verschiedenen Eventcuben anhand
von verschiedenen kleinen Experimenten,
Ausstellungsstücken und einem Kino viel
Wissenswertes über die nordische Kultur,
die Ostsee und das Leben der Wikinger
erfahren.
Eine 96 m lange Familienrutsche, ein
Außenbecken mit direktem Blick auf die
Ostsee und ein Saunadorf im Stil der
Wikingerhäuser runden das moderne Freizeitvergnügen ab. Neben der Familienfreundlichkeit der Badelandschaft wurde
mit drei unterschiedlichen Saunahäusern
ein Bereich der Ruhe und Entspannung
geschaffen.
Der Besucher betritt das Gebäude ebenerdig über die offene, zweigeschossige Eingangshalle. Über eine freistehende Treppenanlage in Form eines Wikingerschiffs
erreicht der Gast die Badeebene. Auf der
offenen Empore erhält man einen ersten
Blick in das Badeareal, kann an der Bar
verweilen und betritt über eine zentrale
Kassenanlage das Bad.
Auf Grund der direkten Lage an der
Ostsee mussten Gebäude, Rutsche und
Saunahäuser auf mehr als 200 Pfählen
gegründet werden. Das zweigeschossige
Gebäude wird komplett über die ebenerdig liegende Eingangsebene erschlossen.
Hier befinden sich u. a. die Personal- und
Nebenräume sowie die Badetechnik.
Die Umkleide ist ohne die klassische Trennung von Stiefel- und Barfußbereichen
konzipiert und für 410 Badegäste gleichzeitig ausgelegt. Davon sind zehn Plätze
barrierefrei ausgestattet. Ein Rollstuhlwechselplatz und unterfahrbare Garderobenschränke wurden in die Umkleide
integriert. Separate Behindertenumkleiden und Sanitäranlagen ermöglichen
einen gleichberechtigten und unabhängigen Badbesuch.

Der eigentliche Badebereich ist als Hallenkonstruktion mit einer großzügigen,
zur Ostsee offenen Verglasung konstruiert, nach Süden dagegen überwiegend
geschlossen. Die weittragende Dachkonstruktion besteht aus einem gerichteten
Stahltragwerk auf Stahlbetonstützen. Eine
textile Unterdecke wird durch moderne
Lasertechnik angestrahlt, der entstehende
Effekt des Nordlichts nimmt das vorherrschende Thema auf spektakuläre Weise
auf. Das große Schwimmerbecken ist an
die Form der Ostsee angelehnt, kunstvoll
gestaltete Felsenlandschaften erinnern an
nordische Schärenfelsen.
Eine Spielzone für Kleinkinder und ein
Selbstbedienungsrestaurant sind ebenso
vorhanden wie ausreichend Liege- und
Ruheflächen. Über eine Schleuse direkt
aus dem Badeareal erreicht man das
Außenbecken mit Sprudelliegen und Wasserspeiern.

Die separat über einen Rutschenturm
erreichbare Familienrutsche kann mittels Rutschringen von bis zu drei Personen gleichzeitig befahren werden.
Wechselnde Querschnitte und verschiedene Lichteffekte wurden auf das vorherrschende Thema abgestimmt. Der
Rutschenauslauf befindet sich in der
Eingangsebene und bietet durch eine
als Felsspalte gestaltete Öffnung in der
Decke der darüber liegenden Schwimmhalle einen ungewöhnlichen Ausblick.
Die drei Gebäude der Außensauna
wurden, angeregt durch das in der Nähe
befindliche Museumsdorf Haithabu,
einem Wikingerdorf nachempfunden.
Der Zugang zum innenliegenden Saunabereich erfolgt über eine zusätzliche
Drehkreuzanlage direkt aus dem Badebereich. Im Hauptgebäude befinden sich
eine Ruhezone mit Wikingerlager, die
Saunagastronomie, der Abkühlbereich
und die Toiletten. Die drei unterschiedlichen Außensaunen bestehen aus Holz mit
Reetdächern mit entsprechender Innenraumgestaltung.

The fresh sunrise at morning, the splendid
midday sun and the warm sunset – light
accompanies us throughout the entire
day. Similar to the daily changes in sunlight, our activity and productivity fluctuate throughout the day. In rooms where
there is little to no natural daylight available and artificial light is necessary, our
circadian rhythm can be affected. In this
environment, it is best to use a lighting
solution that imitates the natural course
of daylight. An automated lighting control and a matching lighting solution can
reproduce the dynamic change of light,
color, direction, and intensity.
Dynamically adjusted and chronobiologically controlled illumination doesn’t only
provide bright light but contributes to
well-being. The combination of Liner XB,
Nano Liner XB and Butler S2 produces a
bright, cold white light that has an energizing effect in the morning and throughout the day, while at night the light is
switched to warm white light, which supports relaxation and recovery. In fact, a
study by the Bergisch University of Wuppertal, Germany, shows in subjective and
objective measurements that chronobiological lighting has a positive effect,
especially on sleep.

Lichtlösungen zur Förderung der Gesundheit
Der frische Sonnenaufgang am Morgen,
die strahlende Mittagssonne und warme
Sonnenuntergänge – Licht begleitet uns
den ganzen Tag hinweg. Ähnlich wie der
tägliche Wechsel des Sonnenlichts verändern sich auch unsere Aktivität und
Produktivität über den Tag. In Räumen,
die über kein oder nur wenig natürliches Tageslicht verfügen und nur durch
künstliches Licht erhellt werden können,
kann unser circadianer Rhythmus gestört
werden. In diesen Fällen wird gerne auf
eine Beleuchtungslösung zurück gegriffen, die den natürlichen Verlauf des

Auch beim Bau der zwei neuen Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Norwegian Cruise Line hat
man sich die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten
der farblich steuerbaren und dimmbaren
LEDs zu Nutze gemacht und eine Beleuchtung installiert, die das Urlaubsambiente
auf den imposanten Schiffen abrundet. In
Spa- und Sportbereichen genauso wie in
Restaurants, Shops und Kabinen wurden
Beleuchtungslösungen installiert, die sich
durch Energieeffizienz, vor allem aber als
Beitrag zum Wohlfühlcharakter auf dem
schwimmenden Luxushotel auszeichnen.

The roof of this carport is very special. It
generates electricity in the summer, withstands storms in autumn and will support more than 60 tonnes of snow load.
Munich’s waste management company
AWM set high requirements when it came
to the new roof design for its central carport. The roof area, covering nearly 8,000
m², is composed of air-filled foil cushions.
The foil, which is made from the high-performance material 3M Dyneon ETFE, is so
transparent that a photovoltaic system integrated into the foil cushions can generate
up to 140,000 kWh of electrical energy per
year. The roof is designed to withstand large
snow loads, and requires virtually no maintenance owing to the incredibly smooth surface of the foil.
If you don’t have anywhere to shelter your
car from the weather, you have to get up
earlier in the winter to sweep away the
snow. In the case of professional fleets of
vehicles, this is not a productive use of time
and leads to significant costs. However, in
its call for tenders for a new roof for the carport, which houses 140 vehicles, AWM was
looking for something extra: the municipal
company has a commitment to sustainability in all areas of its business, at the same
time aiming for the highest economic efficiency to keep waste collection fees down.
The design by architectural firm Ackermann
& Partner met these requirements.
Using an existing pillar construction with
a 10 x 12 m grid, the architects designed
a completely new roof structure. The roof
skin is carried on triangular trussed girders
mounted in the cross direction and has a
high load-bearing capacity to support even
extreme snow loads. The construction was
carried out by Taiyo Europe a market leader
in the planning and implementation of
membrane architecture.

The roof is made up of 220 three-layer
foil cushions each measuring 3.30 x 10.40
metres. The foil layers – NOWOFLON® ET
6235Z extruded by Nowofol Kunststoffprodukte GmbH & Co. KG – are made from
the high-performance material Dyneon
ETFE. This material does not require the
use of plasticizers during production and
is 100% recyclable. These foils are increasingly being used in architecture because
they provide a range of special properties:
They are highly transparent and almost universally resistant to chemicals. In addition,
they are largely maintenance-free as they
are cleaned by rainfall. What’s more, they
have already proven their longevity with
over three decades of use in a wide range of
climates.
Each of the curved foil cushions of the
AWM Carport comprises an aluminium
frame in which three layers of foil are tightly
held. The load-bearing upper and lower
foil layers are 250 micrometres thick. The
middle foil layer is the thickness of a human
hair, around 100 micrometres. The cushions
are given their characteristic shape using
compressed air, which also ensures a high
level of stability. Under normal weather conditions, the pressure in the cushions is 300
pascals which is around 0.2% of the pressure in a car tyre. In the event of a storm
or snowfall, the pressure is increased to a
maximum of 600 pascals. This is sufficient
to safely support a load of up to 600 kg/m²
of snow. The blowers generating the compressed air are designed with dual redundancy so that even if two blowers were to
fail, pneumatic support would be maintained. Even in the case of a failure of the
entire pressure supply, the high loads specified would be held by the foils, which have
a very high tensile strength.

surfaces of the solar cells are protected by
highly transparent UV resistant Nowoflon®
ET 6235 Z film both on the front and backsides. To achieve a permanent and reliable
bond to the cells, Nowofol put a special
coating onto the ETFE. This combination of
ETFE cushions with ETFE covered photovoltaic cells provides weldability of the system
which allows for maximum freedom of
design. The solar modules, together with
the printed lower foil layer, contribute to
shading the carport in the summer, protecting it from exposure to excessive sunlight.
Taiyo Europe constructed the entire roof
structure in such a way that all the modules and elements can be replaced individually. The aluminium dual interlocking panel
holds the lower foil layer and the middle
foil layer with the solar cells together in one
groove. The solar elements can be replaced
easily by opening a separate clamping
device that holds just the upper foil layer.
In total, the foil design weighs 720 tonnes
less than a glass roof of the same size. This
saves valuable resources and means that
the steel beams can also be of considerably
more filigree construction. The carport won
the Engineering Prize 2013 of the Bavarian
Chamber of Engineers. This prize is awarded
for objects that use the latest technology
and at the same time are visually appealing.
The foils, which are made from Dyneon
ETFE, are highly transparent and allow more
than 90% of the sunlight to pass through.
This is important because 12 flexible solar
cells are mounted on the middle foil layer of
each cushion, protected from the effects of
the weather. A photovoltaic system covering 3,200 m² has a peak output of around
140 kW and provides 1,000 kWh/kwp of

Extrem belastbar
Foliendach in München trägt 60 Tonnen Schnee
Dieses Carport-Dach hat es in sich. Es
erzeugt Strom im Sommer, hält Stürmen
im Herbst stand und trägt fast 60 Tonnen
Schnee. Der Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb München stellt hohe Anforderungen an die neue
Dachkonstruktion des zentralen Carports.
Die fast 8.000 m² große Dachfläche besteht
aus luftunterstützten Folienkissen. Die
Folien aus dem Hochleistungswerkstoff 3M
Dyneon ETFE sind so transparent, dass eine
in den Folienkissen integrierte Photovoltaikanlage bis zu 140.000 kWh Strom pro Jahr
erzeugt. Das Dach ist auf hohe Schneelasten
ausgelegt und durch die extrem glatten Folienoberflächen nahezu wartungsfrei.
Wer keine Unterstellmöglichkeiten für das
Auto hat, muss im Winter früher aufstehen,
um den Schnee abzufegen. Bei professionellen Fahrzeugflotten ist das eine unproduktiv eingesetzte Zeit. Bei der Ausschreibung eines neuen Dachs für den Carport
von 140 Fahrzeugen hatte der Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb München (AWM) aber noch
mehr im Sinn: Das kommunale Unternehmen hat sich zu Nachhaltigkeit im gesamten
Handeln verpflichtet. Der Entwurf des Architektenbüros Ackermann und Partner erfüllte
auch diese Anforderungen.
Auf Basis einer vorhandenen Pfeilerkon
struktion im Raster 10 x 12 Meter entwarfen die Architekten eine komplett neue
Dachkonstruktion. In der Querrichtung
montierte Dreigurt-Fachwerkbinder tragen
die Dachhaut. Sie weist eine hohe Tragfähigkeit auch von extremen Schneelasten
auf. Die Bauausführung für das Foliendach
übernahm Taiyo Europe, einer der Marktführer für die Planung und Realisierung
von Membranarchitektur.
Das Dach setzt sich aus 220 dreilagigen
Folienkissen mit den Maßen 3,30 x 10,40
Meter zusammen. Die von der Siegsdorfer Nowofol Kunststoffprodukte GmbH &
Co. KG extrudierten Folien NOWOFLON®
ET 6235Z bestehen aus dem Hochleistungswerkstoff Dyneon ETFE. Dieses Material benötigt bei der Produktion keinerlei
Weichmacher und ist vollständig recyclebar. In der Architektur kommen diese
Folien immer häufiger zum Einsatz, weil
sie eine Reihe besonderer Eigenschaften
bieten: Sie sind hochtransparent, chemisch
nahezu universell beständig und weitgehend wartungsfrei, da sie vom Regen
gereinigt werden. Die Folien beweisen
außerdem ihre Langlebigkeit seit mehr als
drei Jahrzehnten in den unterschiedlichsten
Klimazonen.
Die gewölbten Folienkissen des AWMCarports bestehen jeweils aus einem Aluminiumrahmen, in dem drei Lagen Folien
eingespannt sind. Die tragenden oberen
und unteren Folien sind 250 Mikrometer
dick. Die mittlere Folie ist so dünn wie ein
menschliches Haar, rund 100 Mikrometer. Druckluft spannt die Kissen zu ihrer
charakteristischen Form und sorgt für eine
hohe Stabilität. Der Kissendruck liegt unter
normalen Wetterbedingungen bei 300
Pascal, das entspricht etwa 0,2 Prozent
des Drucks in einem Autoreifen. Bei Sturm
oder Schneefall wird der Druck auf bis zu
600 Pascal erhöht. Das reicht aus, um eine
Last von bis zu 600 Kilogramm Schnee
pro Quadratmeter sicher zu tragen. Die

Gebläse für die Druckerzeugung sind doppelt redundant ausgeführt, so dass auch
bei Ausfall von zwei Gebläsen die pneumatische Unterstützung gewährleistet ist.
Selbst bei einem Ausfall der kompletten
Druckversorgung halten die extrem reißfesten Folien die spezifizierten hohen Lasten.
Die Folien, hergestellt aus Dyneon ETFE,
sind hochtransparent und lassen mehr als
90 Prozent des Sonnenlichts passieren. Das
ist wichtig, weil witterungsgeschützt auf
der mittleren Folie jedes Kissens 12 flexible
Solarzellen montiert sind. Die 3.200 m²
große Photovoltaikanlage hat eine Maximalleistung von etwa 140 kW und liefert durchschnittlich 1.000 kWh/kwp Strom pro Jahr.
Die Oberflächen der Solarzellen selbst sind
mit hochtransparenten und UV-beständigen
Nowoflon® ET 6235Z Folien sowohl frontals auch rückseitig geschützt. Für die dauerhafte und feste Verbindung mit den Zellen
wurden die Folien mit einer geeigneten
Beschichtung versehen. Damit ist durch die
Kombination von ETFE Folienkissen mit ETFE

Die gesamte Dachkonstruktion von Taiyo
Europe ist so ausgelegt, dass alle Module
und Elemente einzeln ausgetauscht
werden können. Das doppelte AluminiumKlemmprofil hält in einer Nut die untere
und die mittlere Folie mit den Solarzellen. Um die Solarelemente auszutauschen,
reicht es, eine weitere Klemmvorrichtung
zu öffnen, die nur die obere Folie einspannt. Die Folienkonstruktion ist im Vergleich zu einem Glasdach insgesamt 720
Tonnen leichter. Das spart kostbare Ressourcen und ermöglicht eine deutlich filig
ranere Konstruktion der Stahlträger. Der
Carport erhielt von der Bayerischen Ingenieurkammer den Ingenieurpreis 2013.
Er zeichnet Objekte aus, die technisch
auf dem neuesten Stand und gleichzeitig
optisch ansprechend sind.

A new CALISTHENICS Street Workout Park
opened in Delbrück near Paderborn (Sportplatz am Nordring, Delbrück, Germany) in
October 2014. Working together with Calisthenics enthusiasts in Delbrück in Westphalia, Playparc GmbH has developed a
compact sports facility that can be set up in
parks or designated playgrounds and play
areas and made available to the general
public.
With controlled exercises, professional athletes can now train all the muscles of their
bodies as and when they choose – wholebody training in the fresh air without any
appreciable need for equipment and totally
free of charge.
Calisthenics, a sport that has come from
the USA and Eastern Europe to Germany,
is a form of physical exercise that exploits
the body‘s own weight. The weight-training and body exercises are highly gymnastic and make use of the body‘s own weight
and, in some cases, extra weights.
The purpose of Calisthenics gymnastics equipment is to improve the user‘s
strength, mobility and body control,
encourage well-being and build up all the
muscles. Inter- and intramuscular coordination is improved and the cardiovascular
system is invigorated. As a great side-effect,
the body literally gets back into shape.
Calisthenics is conceived, however, as a
holistic way of bringing body and mind
into harmony. Behind it is philosophy of
life based on respect for others, non-violence and also abstinence. Anyone who
takes care of his body and himself will
develop a keener mindfulness that will
make him more aware of other people
and their needs.
The Calisthenics or street workout courses
mainly consist of various pull-up bars, parallel bars and hand-over-hand rings. Calisthenics is a departure from isolated exercises on machines in fitness centres.
Although one can use existing outdoor
structures for this, it is simpler and more
effective to train on equipment especially
designed for Calisthenics.

TV Hechtsheim
With its almost 2,600 members, TV
Hechtsheim 1882 e.V. is one of the biggest sports clubs in Mainz, Germany,
today. Originally established for men‘s
gymnastics and extended in 1909 to
include a women‘s section, the club has
evolved over the years into a sport-for-all
club offering its members from toddlers
to the aged an extensive range of activities. In 1907, the club‘s own 11 metre
high hall was opened and, over a hundred
years on, is still in operation in the service
of physical exercise.

tubes. This already means power cost
savings of over 50 per cent per lamp element. According to the club, users of
the gymnastics hall are very happy with
the new LED lighting, because although
the lighting conditions are the same as
before, the new light is more pleasant and
appears brighter. And the current electricity bill is already much lower.
Electricity is a major cost factor for any
sports club. The energy turnaround has
found expression in constantly rising costs
whenever the power supplier raises its
charges. In Mainz-Hechtsheim, the members maintain their own hall and therefore
regularly consider ways of improving the
hall and keeping it in good shape. Largerscale construction measures are subsidised
by the Rhine-Hesse sports federation.
During an eco-check by the sports federation, the hall lighting was also scrutinised,
as the lights are kept on almost all day.
After consulting with LEDeXCHANGE,
the club’s managing committee decided
to retrofit the lamps with LED equivalents. Club members were surprised and
delighted to hear from Managing Director
Stephan Boehme that re-equipping with
LED T8 tubes could be carried out swiftly
in the course of a day. These are retrofit
LED tubes with contacts for a G13 socket.
The lamps are simply replaced – that‘s all
there is to it. The quoted price was very
attractive, particularly in view of the fact
that other suppliers wanted to completely
replace the light fixtures as well – something the club could not have afforded. At
the beginning of October 2013, a LEDeXCHANGE employee replaced the old lamps
with 34 LED T8 tubes – within a day as
promised. The arithmetic service life of T8
tubes is 50,000 hours and hence up to ten
times longer than that of conventional fluorescent tubes.
With high-performance LED T8 fluorescent tubes from LEDeXCHANGE, it
is possible to save up to 70% of electricity charges over conventional luminous tubes. With a Colour Rendering
Index (CRI) exceeding 85, the tubes have
the best value of all VDE-tested products available on the market. This index
describes the quality of colour rendition of
light sources with the same light colour.
As a comparison, a 27 W T8 from LEDeXCHANGE is as bright as a conventional 34
W LED tube. This amounts to more than
120 lumens per watt.

Historische Sporthalle erstrahlt in LED-Licht
Mit fast 2.600 Mitgliedern gehört der TV
Hechtsheim 1882 e.V. heute zu den größten Sportvereinen in Mainz. Als Turnverein
(TV) für Männer ins Leben gerufen und
1909 durch die Gründung der Damenabteilung erweitert, wandelte sich der Club
im Laufe der Zeit zu einem Breitensportverein, der seinen Mitgliedern vom Krabbel- bis zum Seniorenalter ein umfangreiches Angebot bietet. 1907 wurde die vereinseigene, 11 Meter hohe Halle eröffnet,
die auch nach mehr als 100 Jahren noch
im Dienste der Körperertüchtigung steht.
Stromkosten stellen für jeden Sportverein einen hohen Kostenfaktor dar. Die
Energiewende schlägt sich in stetig steigenden Belastungen nieder, wenn die
Stromlieferanten die Preise erhöhen. In
Mainz-Hechtsheim unterhalten die Mitglieder die vereinseigene Halle. Deshalb
macht man sich regelmäßig Gedanken,
was an der Halle verbessert und wie sie
instand gehalten werden kann. Größere
Baumaßnahmen bezuschusst der Sportbund Rheinhessen. Im Rahmen eines
Ökochecks durch den Landessportbund
wurde auch die Hallenbeleuchtung auf
den Prüfstand gestellt, denn das Licht
brennt fast den ganzen Tag. Beraten
durch LEDeXCHANGE entschied sich der
Vereinsvorstand, auf LED-Licht umzurüsten. Überrascht und sehr erfreut zeigten sich die Sportler, als Geschäftsführer
Stephan Boehme ihnen versicherte, dass
die Umrüstung auf die LED T8 Tubes sehr
schnell innerhalb eines Tages durchführbar sei. Dabei handelt es sich um Retrofit LED Leuchtstoffröhren mit G13-Sockel.
Die Leuchtmittel werden „einfach“ ausgewechselt – fertig. Das Angebot war
preislich hochattraktiv, besonders vor
dem Hintergrund, dass andere Anbieter
alle Beleuchtungselemente komplett aus-
tauschen wollten. Diese Kosten wären
für den Verein nicht zu stemmen gewesen. Anfang Oktober 2013 tauschte ein
Mitarbeiter von LEDeXCHANGE die alten
Leuchten termingetreu an einem Tag
gegen 34 LED T8 Tubes aus. Die kalkulierte Lebensdauer der T8-Röhren liegt mit
ca. 50.000 Stunden bis zu zehnmal höher
als bei einer konventionellen Leuchtstoffröhre.
Die LED T8 Tubes sind geprüft und besitzen das VDE-Vollzertifikat. Die quecksilberfreien, bruchsicheren Leuchten zeichnen sich durch eine gleichmäßige Lichtverteilung, eine hohe Schaltfestigkeit und
eine sehr geringe Wärmeabgabe aus.
Statt Neonröhren mit 58 Watt erhellen
nun LED T8 mit 27 Watt die Halle. Somit
war eine sofortig wirksame Stromkostenersparnis um mehr als 50 Prozent pro
Lichtelement gegeben. Die Nutzer der
Turnhalle sind laut Vereinsangaben sehr
zufrieden mit der neuen LED-Beleuchtung, denn obwohl die gleichen Lichtverhältnisse wie vorher bestehen, ist das
neue Licht viel angenehmer und wirkt
sogar heller. Und die aktuelle Stromrechnung fällt bereits erheblich niedriger aus.
Mit den leistungsstarken T8 LED-Leucht
stoffröhren von LEDeXCHANGE lassen sich
bis zu 70 % der Stromkosten gegenüber
herkömmlichen Leuchtstoffröhren einsparen. Mit einem Colour Rendering Index
(CRI) >85 weist die Röhre den besten Wert
aller am Markt erhältlichen VDE geprüften
Produkte auf. Dieser Farbwiedergabeindex
beschreibt die Qualität der Farbwiedergabe von Lichtquellen bei gleicher Lichtfarbe. Im Vergleich ist eine 27 W starke T8

ages. The aim of the Arctic Worlds is to
make a difference in every way. The building can consist of a turnkey instant structure or concrete fixed dome structure
or can be incorporated inside existing or
locally erected permanent standalone or
mixed use buildings. Recent developments
show an increased interest in combinations with amusement parks, shopping
malls, hotels and indoor water parks. Arctic
Worlds can come in many different shapes
and sizes, such as round domes with a
variety of diameters, stretched domes, triangular, rectangular or otherwise. A size
of approx. 4,000 m² (43,000 sq. ft) can
already encompass an attractive indoor
snow circuit. A good size for an optimal
variety of snow play fun rides and activities
is between 4,000 and 6,000 m² (43,000
to 65,000 sq.ft). XS snow slopes may generally range from 15,000 to 30,000 m²
(161,500 – 323,000 sq. ft). It is important
to have a sufficient variety of attractions in
order to generate repeat visitors.

& attractions, TapeMyDay visitor video systems and so on.
The rides and attractions can be changed
and enhanced over time. Projections can
change the settings at any time. The prefab
skid-mounted plant room installations are
re-locatable. Optional instant structures
make these facilities adjustable and moveable to any new site. They can even be
enlarged over time. The possible mobile
snowmaking, ice rink and other activities
and rides also provide opportunities for
promotional events and additional revenue
outside of the facility.
Although Arctic Worlds are new, the technical installations and the majority of rides
and activities are established and welltested products. Unlimited Snow and event
partners have executed many snow events
around the world since 1995, which have
also served as a valuable consumer survey.

Wie Holz, nur besser geeignet
Terrassendielen im Wülfrather Hallenbad
Das Wülfrather Hallenbad wurde in den
letzten Jahren vergrößert, modernisiert
und auf den aktuellen Stand der Technik
gebracht. Im Rahmen der umfangreichen
baulichen Maßnahmen erhielt die rund
180 m² große Außenterrasse mit WPCTerrassendielen von NATURinFORM einen
neuen Charakter und wurde gleichzeitig
ganzjährig nutzbar gemacht. Entscheidend für die Materialauswahl waren die
Faktoren Sicherheit beim Begehen, Lang
lebigkeit und Widerstandsfähigkeit unter
variierenden klimatischen Bedingungen.
Das Bad ist Anziehungspunkt für Wassersportler jeden Alters. Sowohl Kinder und
Jugendliche als auch Erwachsene und
Senioren nutzen das Bad zum Schwimmen, Saunieren sowie zur Entspannung
und Erholung. Das Becken im Hallenbad hat eine für das Schwimmen angenehme Länge von 25 m. Eine große Panorama-Glasfront sorgt für hervorragenden
Lichteinfall. Und die rund 180 m² große
Terrasse lädt seit 2012 mit ihrem neuen
WPC-Dielenboden ganzjährig zum Entspannen und Frischlufttanken insbesondere zwischen den Saunagängen ein.
Einen essentiellen Faktor stellte die Sicherheit des Bodens dar. Schließlich sollen
die Badegäste zu jeder Jahreszeit – auch
im Nasszustand – bedenkenlos barfuß
und rutschsicher darauf gehen können.
Außerdem standen Langlebigkeit, Wirtschaftlichkeit und Widerstandsfähigkeit
auf der Produktagenda der Projektverantwortlichen. Sehr genau waren auch ihre
Vorstellungen hinsichtlich der Optik: Eine
attraktive Holzoptik sollte es sein, die den
Freiraum angenehm betont und sich harmonisch in das Umfeld einfügt. Auf Empfehlung eines ortsansässigen Holzhändlers
entschieden sich die Verantwortlichen für
WPC-Terrassendielen von NATURinFORM.
Zur Ausführung kam eine Massivdiele in
der Farbe „Anthrazit“ und mit einer Sonderlänge von ca. 7,20 Metern.

At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marbella, in the southern part of Trinidad, world
champions are back flying
around the track again. Since
mid March 2014, after several
months of reconstruction work
the track has now been available for the sports world again.
The PORPLASTIC partner company Advanced Performance
Technologies Ltd. professionally
laid the high performance coating PORPLASTICSW competition for an area of 5,000 m².
In the whole program to build
up the sports infrastructure
by the Ministry of Sports, it is
the third track which was constructed with PORPLASTIC
products. The first order with
the system PORPLASTICM
olympic was given by the
Ministry in 2010/2011 for the
Hasely Crawford Stadium in
the capital city Port of Spain.
The IAAF class I certified
coating system is applied as
the top track of this region.
Many athletes that were so
far forced to practice abroad,
mostly in the United States,
are now sweeping back with
the knowledge that there are
premium conditions available
at their home stadium. And
nothing less is expected for
Trinidad’s world class athletes.
As a second step, the Larry

Mähroboter im Einsatz
Der neue Sportrasen beim SV
Eggetal war zuvor ein dioxinbelasteter Tennenplatz. Beim
Rückbau 2012 trug man den
gesamten Aufbau bis auf das
gewachsene Erdreich ab. Die
Planung wurde dem Büro
Brinkmann und Deppen anvertraut, welche sie in gewohnt
sehr guter Weise umsetzte.
Der INTERGREEN-Partner
Büttner erstellte im Frühjahr 2014 das neue Erdplanum für das Großspielfeld. In
das neue Erdplanum wurden
sodann das Drainsystem und
eine Beregnungsanlage eingebaut. Parallel verlief das
Herstellen der Platzeinfassung und im Anschluss der
Einbau einer Drainschicht. Die
Rasentragschicht erstellte Fa.
Büttner in einer Mischung vor
Ort und baute diese anschließend in vorgegebener Dicke
auf der künftigen Spielfläche
ein. Zuletzt erfolgte die Einsaat mit einer Mischung aus
hochwertigen Sportrasengräsern. Sämtliche Baustoffe und
auch die eingebaute Rasentragschicht wurden vom im

Schneider geprüft und als
DIN-gerecht bewertet.
Nachdem die Einsaat aufgelaufen war, erfolgte die Fertigstellungspflege. Diese bestand
aus dem Mähen, dem Düngen
und dem Belüften. Das Mähen
übernahm der INTERGREENMähroboter. Frühzeitig
installiert, konnte dieser bereits
für den ersten Schnitt eingesetzt werden. Der SV Eggetal
betreute den Roboter während
der Fertigstellungspflege und
wurde damit zu einem absoluten Experten in Sachen Mähtechnik. Der Verein übernahm
das regelmäßige Säubern des
Roboters mit Druckluft und
Bürsten. Zudem wechselte er
bei Erfordernis die Messer und
stellte sicher, dass das Gerät
nicht unsachgemäß genutzt
wurde. Diesem tollen Einsatz
des Vereins war es zu verdanken, dass der Sportrasen
bereits im Juli 2014 übergeben
und von den Sportlern genutzt
werden konnte.

Alle BFGW Fachfirmen sind

bilden die Grundlagen aller
Tätigkeiten und Dienstleistungen, die BFGW Mitgliedsfirmen herstellerunabhängig im
Bereich von sicherheitstechnischen Überprüfungen und
Wartungen durchführen.
In den ersten Kapiteln werden
die grundlegenden Begrifflichkeiten festgelegt. Die Leitlinien definieren vier Kategorien, in denen die Vielzahl der
Sport- und Freizeitanlagen
eingeordnet werden. In jeder
Kategorie wiederum werden
die einzelnen Geräte aufgeführt mit ihren jeweiligen
Prüfelementen, die bei jeder
sicherheitstechnischen Überprüfung begutachtet werden
müssen. Jedem einzelnen
Prüfelement ist die entsprechende Norm zugewiesen. So
werden in jeder Kategorie für
jedes einzelne Prüfelement die
zugrunde liegenden Normen
und Vorschriften kompakt dargestellt.
Alle Mitgliedsunternehmen
haben sich verpflichtet, nach
den definierten Standards ihre
Tätigkeiten durchzuführen.
So kann den Betreibern von
Sportanlagen, die BFGW-Fachfirmen vertrauen, ein Höchstmaß an Sicherheit geboten
werden.
