Up to $99 - Ludlow Community Center | Randall Boys and Girls Club
Opening A New Door
The past year has been dedicated to improving ourselves as a Community Center and as a Boys &
Girls Club. At the end of 2014, we partnered with Envision Marketing Group and conducted research
through surveys and focus groups, and have been working on new marketing initiatives. The Club
and the Board of Directors have been learning from this information and we continue to discuss
how these suggestions could be incorporated into our strategic plan. Over time, our members
and the community can expect information on how we plan to accomplish our goals.
Our doors have always been open, and the survey and focus groups have allowed the Club to
realize the opportunity that is present. Inside our doors you’ll find our great facility, experienced
staff, and life enhancing programs. Thanks to the overwhelming support of the town officials and
the community, we have been able to collect helpful information.
A new look was an important step for the Club to better serve the community. We began with the
introduction of a brand new website and logo. Our website incorporated the feedback from our
research and has a mobile friendly design and is easy to navigate. We have also updated our
mission statement and core beliefs to reflect the needs of the community.
Mission Statement
The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club is a community based not for profit,
which provides youth and adult life enhancing programs. Our programs focus on promoting
healthy lifestyles, academic success, and developing strong character and leadership skills.
Vision & Core Beliefs
We Pledge…
• To provide a safe and nurturing environment for opportunities to learn and grow.
• To offer quality programming and services to our community.
• To lead our programs by well trained, professional part time and full time staff members.
• To provide opportunities to help youth gain leadership skills.
• To being a good community partner by reaching out and collaborating with
various town organizations and local businesses.
• To provide programs that are affordable and accessible.
• To provide leadership and innovative thinking from the Board in order to continue to move
forward in a strategic direction.
We continuously strive to provide life enhancing programs to better the lives of both the youth
and adults in our community. As we undergo this journey, we ask that you join us by stepping
inside our doors. It is because of the continuous support and help of the town officials, members of the club, corporate sponsors, and community that we are able to keep our doors open.
As we grow, we hope you’ll grow with us. We look forward to serving the community for the next
65 years and with your help, great futures start here.

OUR
COMMUNITY
The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys &
Girls Club is committed to providing low to no cost
family events to the community. These events give
families the opportunity to spend quality time
together while having fun and interacting with
other members of the community. Some examples
of these events are: Father & Daughter Dance,
Easter Egg Hunt, Day for Kids, Halloween Carnival
and Rag Shag Parade, Breakfast with Santa, family
game days, trips, and more.
One of our most successful events is our Father &
Daughter Dance. One Sunday afternoon each
February hundreds of girls dress up and come to
our dance with their father (or someone who is like
a father). The day is filled with music, dancing,
food, games, raffles, and most importantly smiles!
Last year we had close to 500 fathers and
daughters here.
Another hugely successful annual event is our Rag
Shag Parade and Halloween Carnival. Each year
close to 500 kids and their families attend this free
event. The event is kicked off with a parade led by
the Baird Middle School band. Once at the Club
children participate in many activities such as
games, face painting, arts & crafts, raffles,
temporary tattoos, food and more. New last year
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Department sponsored a “Trunk or Treat”. Several businesses and
local organizations decorated their trunks and gave
out treats. Events such as these take a huge team
to make happen. Staff, members, and volunteers
all come together to plan fun, family time for the
community.

ACADEMIC
SUCCESS
BOARD PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
Academic Success is one of three priority areas identified as a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s
Great Futures Initiative. By creating programs that
promote Academic Success we are keeping our
members on track to graduate from high school on
time, ready for college, trade school, the military or
employment. Students spend twice as much time
out of school as they do in school. For this reason,
we have implemented several educational
components into our programs to boost Academic
Success and limit learning loss.
Reading Club is an example of a program that
supports Academic Success. Students who are in
grades K-2 and a part of our After School program
have the option to join our Reading Club. Reading
Club meets as a small group twice per week. The
group is led by our Literacy Coordinator, a certified
teacher who currently works in The Ludlow Public
Schools. The goal of The Reading Club is to enhance
children’s literacy development through fun games
and activities. As a part of The Reading Club children
have access to books, writing materials, educational
games, a listening center, computers, ipads, and
more. Our Literacy Coordinator plans weekly
lessons that are fun, but at the same time provides
opportunity for students to practice their reading
and writing skills. Last year we had 34 students
participate in this United Way of Pioneer Valley
funded program.
An additional example of our Academic Success
initiatives is our Joseph & Anna Dias Family Tech
Program funded by The Joseph & Anna C. Dias
Foundation. This initiative enables us to provide
programs that enhance children’s digital literacy and
prepare them for our digital world. Examples of
programs are Clay Tech, word processing, digital
photography, internet safety, myfuture.net, and our
newest program Robo Tech. The Robo Tech robotics
program provides students with a fun and
educational introduction to the field of robotics as
well as, electronics, mechanics and software.
Members work as teams with Lego Mindstorm kits
to build and program a robot that interacts with its
environment in numerous ways. This past summer
we had 40 different students participate in our Robo
Tech program.

Welcome to the Ludlow Community Center/ Randall Boys and Girls
Club Annual Meeting and Donor Reception. Thank you all for being
here tonight and for the financial support you provide. Your on-going
support allows us to continue to offer the wonderful programs and
services that are important to the members of the Ludlow
community as well as those in surrounding towns and cities.
As I conclude my term as Board President, I feel a bit sad but proud
of the work we accomplished over the past few years. During my
term, the organization has been focused on surveying the
community for the purpose of strategic planning and rebranding
efforts. What we discovered in the survey process is that many
community members are very satisfied with the services provided but others are unaware of the
remarkable programs offered to both children and adults. We have taken this data and have
updated our marketing materials and web site to paint a more complete and accurate picture of
what we do. Please visit our new web site at: www.ludlowbgc.org.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer Aldworth, President and CEO, for her
leadership of the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys and Girls Club. Jenn is surrounded by
a talented management team, creative staff and dedicated volunteers whom I also want to thank
for everything they do on behalf of the Club. Finally, I would like to recognize my fellow board
members for the leadership they provide and for their support of me in my role as Board Chair.
It takes a community to ensure the continued success and growth of the Ludlow Community
Center/ Randall Boys and Girls Club. I hope all of you will continue to utilize the resources of the
Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys and Girls Club and share all the wonderful things that go
on behind our doors with your family, friends and neighbors.
Sincerely,
Joanne Ollson
Board President

PRESIDENT & CEO’s
MESSAGE
HEALTHY
LIFESTYLES
Imagine all the people, sharing all the world.
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.
(Imagine, John Lennon)
As we’ve heard many times before, imagination is a powerful thing.
Because of the imagination of inventors, engineers, scientists and
countless thinkers and dreamers, we live in a world that rockets to the
stars, wipes out diseases, feeds billions of people, and communicates
instantaneously to allow cultures from all over planet Earth to learn from
each other. There are countless forms of music, art, drama, literature,
architecture, and entertainment that come from the imaginations of people devoted to making the world
a more beautiful place. And imagination drives us in small ways too as we look around our community,
imagining Ludlow even better, taking up the mantle of civic engagement and responsibility.
The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club believes in imagination. We make real
opportunities for our members so they can use their imaginations to become caring and productive citizens
of our nation and of the world. We spark imagination throughout the Club with fun, high yield activities
and targeted programs that help young people see the potential of their future and to begin that future
now. Our Club provides young people with fun activities in literacy, technology, science, arts, sports and
fitness so that they become engaged with these subjects now and can imagine these opportunities for their
futures in these fields.
Sparking imagination doesn’t just happen. It takes dedicated staff to provide opportunities to Club members
to use their imaginations. Our programs are lead by well trained, professional part time and full time staff
members. It takes creative activities and programs that are fun and engaging. Boys & Girls Clubs of America
offers tested, proven and nationally recognized programs in five core program areas – Character and
Leadership Development, Education and Career Development , Health and Life Skills, The Arts and Sports,
Fitness and Recreation. And it takes partners to bring their expertise and resources so the Ludlow
Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club can offer quality programming and services to our
community.
Thank you all – Board Members, Corporators, Board of Selectmen, Volunteers, Staff and Donors – thank
you for investing in our kids and our community. You are making a difference in the future of our children!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Aldworth
President & CEO

Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle is one of three priority
areas identified as a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of
America’s Great Futures Initiative. By creating
programs that encourage healthy living, members are
engaging in daily physical activity, making healthy
nutrition choices, employing good resistance and
decision-making skills, and refraining from
participating in risky behaviors. We offer a variety of
programming to members of all ages from infants up
to senior citizens to encourage an active and healthy
lifestyle.
Adults and teens ages 14 and up can purchase fitness
memberships. Fitness members have access to our
fitness center, swimming pool, and several group
fitness classes. Classes include: Strength Class,
Express Sculpt, Zumba, Pilates, Core Stability, Mat
Science, Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, Boot Camp,
Balletone, Zumba Toning, and Cardio Mix. Our fitness
center is open 7 days a week for a total of 88 hours
per week and staffed by our Fitness/Wellness Director
and Fitness Specialists.
Another avenue for keeping families fit and active is
our various youth sports programs. We offer several
youth athletic programs such as: Swim Team, Swim
Lessons, Flag Football, T-ball, Coach Pitch, 8-10
Baseball, Youth Volleyball, Start Smart Soccer, Track &
Field, Cross Country, and Basketball.
Basketball always proves to be one of our biggest
athletic programs. Last year we had 21 traveling
basketball teams for boys & girls in grades 3-High
School with a total of 215 kids! The teams compete
locally in Suburban, CYO, and recreation leagues. Our
in-house basketball program for grades K-2 has also
been well attended. The Basketball Basics program is
for students in Kindergarten and had 20 participants
last year and Biddy Basketball program is for grades
1 & 2 and had 59 kids enrolled. Basketball Basics is
designed to teach the basic fundamentals of the
game. Biddy Basketball also teaches the
fundamentals of basketball and begins to develop the
concept of team with the start of controlled game
play. For our youngest athletes we offer our Start
Smart Basketball program for children ages 3-5 and
their parent. Start Smart athletic programs focus on
teaching basic athletic skills from the start. Last year
the program was at capacity at 10 participants.
Combined, our basketball program provided age
appropriate instruction to 304 different boys & girls
ages 3 – 18 last year.
21
CHARACTER &
CITIZENSHIP
2015 YOUTH
OF THE YEAR
Good Character and Citizenship is one of three
priority areas identified as a part of Boys & Girls
Clubs of America’s Great Futures Initiative. By
creating programs that promote Good Character
and Citizenship we are teaching our members to
treat others with respect, demonstrate civility,
serve others at the Club or in the community, and
understand their rights and responsibilities as
citizens.
Strong character is an underlying
message in all of our programs however, we have
some specific programs specifically designed to
promote good character and citizenship.
Torch Club is an example of a program reinforcing
good character and citizenship. Torch Club is a
Boys & Girls Clubs of America National program for
boys and girls ages 11-13. It is a small-group
leadership and service club in which members
learn to work together to plan and implement
activities in four areas: service to Club and
community; education; health and fitness; and
social recreation. Last year we had 14 boys & girls
who helped to plan and volunteer at several events
such as:
food drive, giving tree, Rag Shag
Halloween Carnival, Breakfast with Santa, Day for
Kids, reading buddies and more.
An additional program is our Youth of The Year
Program. Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of
The Year Program recognizes and celebrates
leadership, academic success, civic responsibility
and engagement. Each month the management
team gets together to nominate a youth member
ages 14-18 who demonstrates these characteristics
to be our Youth of The Month. From that pool, the
management team narrows the search to three
nominees who participate in our local competition.
At that time Jordan Regadas was chosen as our
Youth of The Year. Jordan then participated in the
State Youth of the Year competition on May 3rd &
4th in Boston.
20
As the new Youth of the Year for the Ludlow Community Center/
Randall Boys & Girls Club, 16-year old Jordan Regadas is a true
example of an extraordinary young man recognized by Boys & Girls
Clubs of America (BGCA) for his sound character, leadership skills
and willingness to give back to the community.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls
Club member can receive. As BGCA’s premier youth recognition
program, Youth of the Year recognizes outstanding contributions to
a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well
JORDAN REGADAS
as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. Youth of the Year
encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading
healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Youth of the Year honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.
Jordan has been a member of the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club for over 10
years. He started attending the Club for preschool, then before school, after school and summer
camp, eventually he grew to participate in the Club’s athletic and social recreational programs.
While he was attending the Club he developed a positive attitude, great personality and self
confidence. Jordan is a positive role model for today’s young people. He has devoted his time as
a volunteer and most recently became a staff member of the Ludlow Community Center/Randall
Boys & Girls Club. As a staff member, he is working as an after school Assistant Group Leader.
Jordan is a sophomore at Ludlow High School and is very happy with all of his classes. He’s enjoying
his year thanks to the great teachers he has. He also is a student in Honors Portuguese.
“The Club is like a second home for me. I always feel welcomed here. The Club’s great staff has
taught me to be a better person and taught me right from wrong. As I grow older my goal is to be
a part of that staff and continue teaching that philosophy,” said Regadas.

We have audited the accompanying financial statements of Ludlow Boys & Girls Club, Inc. (a nonprofit organization),
which comprise the statement of financial position as of December 31, 2014, and the related statements of activities
and changes in net assets, functional expenses and cash flows for the year then ended, and the related notes to the
financial statements.
Management’s Responsibility for the Financial Statements
Management is responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of these financial statements in accordance with
accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America; this includes the design, implementation,
and maintenance of internal control relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements that
are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.
Auditor’s Responsibility
Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit. We conducted our audit
in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. Those standards require
that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free
from material misstatement.
An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial
statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s judgement, including the assessment of the risks of
material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments,
the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity’s preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. Accordingly, we express no such opinion. An
audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of significant
accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.
We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit
opinion.
Opinion
In our opinion, the financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position
of the Ludlow Boys & Girls Club, Inc. as of December 31, 2014, and the changes in its net assests and its cash flows for
the year then ended in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America.

Thank You!
First, I would like to thank the staff, the Board of Directors,
Corporators and all our great volunteers for all their hard work
and commitment to this wonderful organization.
Our independent auditor, Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald CO., P.C.,
completed our audit for the fiscal year ending 12/31/14 in July of
2015. If anyone would care to review these documents please
contact Jennifer Aldworth, Maryann Swift, or myself to schedule
an appointment. Please note that we changed our Accounting/
Auditing firm in 2015 for the 2014 audit.
The year 2014 ended with a positive change in Total Assets. In addition, we saw our total receipts
increase in 2014 from 2013 which was mostly made up of increased revenue in the childcare
programs and in support/fundraising. Total expenditures in 2014 increased from 2013 which is
justified with the increase in revenue.
Our annual memberships in 2014 served over 500 adults. As you may recall, 2011 was the last
year that we received the United Way Base Allocation funding. In 2014 our United Way funding
was only through a request for funding (RFP’s). The current request is a 3 year RFP for $37,500
per year that will expire in June 2016.
In 2014, we saw another increase in Mass Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America which
contributed $24,390 vs. $19,634 in 2013 from the State budget.
The following pages are excerpts from our 2014 Audit and include the Independent Auditor’s
report, Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activities. Lastly, feel free to call
Jennifer Aldworth or any of the Board members to discuss any thoughts or suggestions to help
our Community Center be the best possible resource for our children, adults and citizens of our
community.

Jennifer Aldworth or any of the Board members to discuss any thoughts or suggestions to help
our Community Center be the best possible resource for our children, adults and citizens of our
community.

To the Board of Directors
Ludlow Boys & Girls Club, Inc.
Ludlow, Massachusetts

CHARACTER &
CITIZENSHIP
2015 YOUTH
OF THE YEAR
Good Character and Citizenship is one of three
priority areas identified as a part of Boys & Girls

MESSAGE
HEALTHY

ACADEMIC
SUCCESS
BOARD PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
Academic Success is one of three priority areas identified as a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s
Great Futures Initiative. By creating programs that
promote Academic Success we are keeping our
members on track to graduate from high school on
time, ready for college, trade school, the military or
employment. Students spend twice as much time
out of school as they do in school. For this reason,
we have implemented several educational
components into our programs to boost Academic
Success and limit learning loss.
Reading Club is an example of a program that
supports Academic Success. Students who are in
grades K-2 and a part of our After School program
have the option to join our Reading Club. Reading
Club meets as a small group twice per week. The
group is led by our Literacy Coordinator, a certified
teacher who currently works in The Ludlow Public
Schools. The goal of The Reading Club is to enhance
children’s literacy development through fun games
and activities. As a part of The Reading Club children
have access to books, writing materials, educational
games, a listening center, computers, ipads, and
more. Our Literacy Coordinator plans weekly
lessons that are fun, but at the same time provides
opportunity for students to practice their reading
and writing skills. Last year we had 34 students
participate in this United Way of Pioneer Valley
funded program.
An additional example of our Academic Success
initiatives is our Joseph & Anna Dias Family Tech
Program funded by The Joseph & Anna C. Dias
Foundation. This initiative enables us to provide
programs that enhance children’s digital literacy and
prepare them for our digital world. Examples of
programs are Clay Tech, word processing, digital
photography, internet safety, myfuture.net, and our
newest program Robo Tech. The Robo Tech robotics
program provides students with a fun and
educational introduction to the field of robotics as
well as, electronics, mechanics and software.
Members work as teams with Lego Mindstorm kits
to build and program a robot that interacts with its
environment in numerous ways. This past summer
we had 40 different students participate in our Robo
Tech program.

Welcome to the Ludlow Community Center/ Randall Boys and Girls
Club Annual Meeting and Donor Reception. Thank you all for being
here tonight and for the financial support you provide. Your on-going
support allows us to continue to offer the wonderful programs and
services that are important to the members of the Ludlow
community as well as those in surrounding towns and cities.
As I conclude my term as Board President, I feel a bit sad but proud
of the work we accomplished over the past few years. During my
term, the organization has been focused on surveying the
community for the purpose of strategic planning and rebranding
efforts. What we discovered in the survey process is that many
community members are very satisfied with the services provided but others are unaware of the
remarkable programs offered to both children and adults. We have taken this data and have
updated our marketing materials and web site to paint a more complete and accurate picture of
what we do. Please visit our new web site at: www.ludlowbgc.org.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer Aldworth, President and CEO, for her
leadership of the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys and Girls Club. Jenn is surrounded by
a talented management team, creative staff and dedicated volunteers whom I also want to thank
for everything they do on behalf of the Club. Finally, I would like to recognize my fellow board
members for the leadership they provide and for their support of me in my role as Board Chair.
It takes a community to ensure the continued success and growth of the Ludlow Community
Center/ Randall Boys and Girls Club. I hope all of you will continue to utilize the resources of the
Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys and Girls Club and share all the wonderful things that go
on behind our doors with your family, friends and neighbors.
Sincerely,
Joanne Ollson
Board President

Staff, members, and volunteers
all come together to plan fun, family time for the
community.
