By European standards, Austria has a high
employment ratio and a very low rate of youth
unemployment. This is due largely to the excellent integrated vocational training system.
80 per cent of all students in upper secondary
education in Austria are in vocational training
– this is world class.
Österreich hat im europäischen Vergleich besonders gute Beschäftigungswerte und eine
sehr geringe Jugendarbeitslosigkeit. Das ist in
hohem Ausmaß auf das hervorragend ausgebaute Berufsausbildungssystem zurückzuführen. In Österreich befinden sich 80 Prozent der
Schülerinnen und Schüler der Sekundarstufe II
in einer Berufsausbildung – das ist Weltspitze.
Dual vocational education ensures that young
people are integrated smoothly into the labour market. Apprentices are already actively working in their firm during their training and will have gained not only theoretical
knowledge, but also relevant work experience when their apprenticeship is completed.
An important criterion for the success of dual
vocational training is, that both employers
and employees can contribute their knowhow in determining the content and framework of the training. On the one hand, this
social partnership fosters the willingness of
companies to take on and train new apprentices and on the other hand it increases the
confidence of young people and their parents
in dual vocational education.
The combination of theory and practice is the
great strength of dual vocational training.
The knowledge that what has been learned
can be directly applied in the work situation
is a great motivation to young people to study.
The continuous application of what is being
learnt makes immediate sense of the various exercises to the apprentices. Sustained
learning is thus guaranteed.
In particular the company Julius Blum GmbH
is renowned beyond the Austrian borders for
high-quality vocational training. It offers apprenticeships in seven high-tech occupations
and has already exported its training concept
a few years ago to the United States.

Austria‘s universities have an excellent
reputation. In the year 2010, some 15.4
per cent of students at Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences
came from abroad. Only in Luxembourg
(41.4 percent), Australia (21.2 percent) and
Great Britain (16 percent) was the percentage of international students greater.

Investment in Education:
A good education is the be-all and endall on the international labour market.
Austria is therefore prepared to pay for
its educational system. From elementary
school through to university, Austria invested on average US$ 12.285 per head
in 2009 for education. Thus, Austrian
investment was significantly greater than
the OECD average of $ 9.252 dollars per
head. Overall, only the United States,
Switzerland, Norway and Denmark spent
more on education than Austria.

out of 100, Austria ranked third, equal

and skills to the Middle East, China, Vietnam,
Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and the Ukraine.
The IMC has successfully set up the 1st ArabEuropean model University in the Middle East
which is a showcase project. IMC University of
Applied Sciences Krems was awarded the contract to set up the University of Buraimi in 2009
in competition against five major competitors
and has been charged with the planning of the
infrastructure, the implementation of the processing and management consultancy.

Die IMC Fachhochschule Krems hat erfolgreich das 1. arabisch-europäische Universitätsmodell im Mittleren Osten initiiert und
realisiert damit ein Vorzeigeprojekt. Sie erhielt 2009 den Zuschlag für den Aufbau der
University of Buraimi und konnte sich damit
gegen fünf große Mitbewerber durchsetzen.
Die IMC FH Krems war mit der Planung der
Infrastruktur, der Prozessimplementierung
und dem Management-Consulting betraut.
The University of Buraimi in the north of
Oman, which involved an expenditure of
EUR 40 million, is Austria‘s largest education export. When fully developed, approximately 10,000 students will be studying the
subjects: Engineering, Health, and Business
studies in Buraimi.

The interdisciplinary research and teaching

Every year the Mozarteum University organises the International Summer Academy which
invites thousands of young musicians from all
over the world to study in Salzburg. The Summer Academy was founded in 1916. Nowadays
it offers over 60 masterclasses. Master courses
with outstanding teachers are inspirational and
provide opportunities to achieve perfection by
benefiting from a wealth of encounters during
the festival season.
