The Baptist Men would like
to invite EVERYONE,
to our breakfast on Sunday,
September 11th at 8 AM.
Bring the whole family for a
time of fellowship and good
food!
This is a monthly event
sponsored by the Baptist
Men
Each September for the past 26 years, young Christians across America have gathered
around school flagpoles to pray. See You at the Pole (SYATP), which began at three
schools in Burleson, Texas, is now an international event, with about 3 million participants
annually.
Students organize prayer gatherings, usually at 7 a.m. local time. Teachers, parents and
youth pastors often join them. The theme verse for this year’s event, which occurs
September
28,
is
Psalm
24:3-6
—“We
cry
out!”
Student-led prayer, even at public schools, is free speech protected by the U.S.
Constitution. By gathering around their flagpoles, young people take a stand for Christ as
they call on his name in prayer.
Crestview High School: 6:30 am
Shoal River Middle School: 7:45 am
SYATP Rally: 5:45 pm @ First Baptist Church
Labor Day, The first Monday of September was established to commemorate the social and economical achievements of American Workers. It is a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the
strength, prosperity and wellbeing of our country. There is much argument of who the real founder of
Labor Day is. Some believe that Peter J. McGuire, the General Secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Foundation of Labor was first to suggest a day of honor
for workers. Others believe Matthew Maguire, a machinist and Secretary of Local 344 of The International Association of Machinist in Paterson N.J. is the founder.
The first Labor Day was observed the first Monday of September 1884. It became an official holiday
following the deaths of workers at the hands of United States Army and United States Marshals Service
during the Pullman Strike of 1894, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve legislation
to make Labor Day a national holiday and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law six days after
the end of the strike. Labor Day is called the "unofficial end of summer" because it marks the end of the
cultural summer season.
God also established holidays for Israel to celebrate their hard labor.
Ex 23:14-17, Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year. Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me
empty:) And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and
the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of
the field. Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord God . (KJV)
The feasts of unleavened bread, harvest, and ingathering were all feast to remind the Israelis of God’s
divine provisions and blessings. God blessed labor as a source of satisfaction as a fulfillment of purpose
as a reward of joining Him in His ministry to the world. Have you ever stopped to think of how your
work is an expression of your worship to God?

I would like to say thank you to all the people who expressed their sympathy and concern to Rhonda
and our family in our family in the loss of Rhonda’s cousin, Teresa Huntley. Thank you so much for being the loving church family that you are. We are so blessed to be called to be a part of this fellowship.
Please don’t forget to look over the calendar for September. There are a lot of activities that you do
not want to miss. Please remember to pray for our church leaders and teams as continue to serve you. I
look forward to seeing you worship and may God bless.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? We are into September already. Pretty soon we will be talking about
Thanksgiving and Christmas. But let’s get through this month first. We and our youth have a GREAT
opportunity to witness THIS month during “SEE YOU AT THE POLE” which is Wednesday, Sept.
28th. The theme is “We Cry Out” and verses Psalm 24:3-6. As usual, youth are to meet at the flagpole at their school one half hour before the first bell and gather to pray with other Christians. You
will not be made to pray out loud but this is a time to encourage others who believe like you do. If
you ordered a tee shirt, please wear it to school. This is another GREAT way to witness. Then later
that evening we will gather at First Baptist Church at 5:45pm for food and then the rally. There will
be music and a speaker you will not want to miss. This is the time where you can really impact the
Kingdom of God by inviting your unsaved, unchurched friends. This rally will be evangelistic and
who knows what God will do through you inviting someone. It is up to you to decide, first to participate or not and second to invite someone to join you. I truly believe God wants to do GREAT things
here in Crestview and wants to use you if you will only let Him. We will see youth saved and who
knows, we may even see them join our youth group. Know you are prayed for daily and I hope to see
you on Wednesdays during our “WYN” at 6:30pm and Sunday mornings, 9:45AM for Bible study.
As always, remember, Jesus loves you and I do too.

What is Patriot’s Day?
Patriot Day is an annual
observance on September 11
to remember those who were
injured or died during the
terrorist attacks in the United
States on September 11, 2001.
Many Americans refer Patriot
Day as 9/11 or September 11.
What time is the moment of
silence for 911?
Additionally, a moment of silence
is
observed
to
correspond with the attacks,
beginning
at
8:46
AM (Eastern Daylight Time),
the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11, struck
the North Tower of the World
Trade Center on September
11, 2001.
Sometimes the next big thing isn’t what
you expect. Slick, big city sports agent
Rob Decker has it all. But on his latest
mission to sign a high school baseball
superstar, Rob becomes stranded in a
small town where the simplicity of life
and the faith of the people stands in stark
contrast to his own fast-paced, win-at-allcosts mindset. Torn between these two
worlds, will Rob have the courage to let
faith transform his life? This heartwarming story of redemption will entertain and
inspire the whole family.
Check out “Ring the Bell” and many more
great movies and books in The LOBC
Library.

Modern miracles
At the mention of miracles, we often picture the biblical
kind: a dead person brought back to life, a small amount of
food feeding a crowd, sight restored to a blind man. Yet
even today we look for unexpected healings or an earthquake victim found alive after days amid rubble.
But consider someone born with poor eyesight who, thanks
to technology, can work as a professional proofreader or create intricate digital paintings. Consider someone with a prosthetic leg who can run and even win races. Consider someone who, thanks to a donated heart, kidney or blood, continues to live. Consider friends in the United States and Europe
who can connect in “real time,” offering support during a
crisis.
Technology — whose source is the human brain created by
God — makes possible a new, modern-day type of miracle.
When used for good, it can overcome barriers, allowing us to
celebrate life and serve one another. Miracles, indeed!
Florida's DR command center located at 10915 Florida Blvd is a center point for a
very active flood response. Only four days into the Baton Rouge response we have
received over 800 requests for assistance. Our assessors are busy completing over
100 assessments during the first days of our response. Five C/R teams are now
engaged mucking out homes damaged by the August 12th flood. The water level in
some homes can be measured in inches but we're finding that the damage in most
homes is several feet.
Fifteen spray jobs and five muck out jobs have been completed to date. One of our
assessment teams was instrumental in leading a family of three to the Lord on Thursday and another team had a profession of faith on Friday. God's Spirit is active here!
By Monday 8/29 we will have 11 Florida C/R teams and over 100 C/R volunteers on
the ground serving here in Baton Rouge Aug 28-Sept 3.
I wish I could say that these volunteers could complete the task we've been assigned but unfortunately the first wave
is only the tip of the ice-burg; we will need many more teams before completing this task.
If you are serving or preparing to serve we thank you. If you are wondering if there would be work waiting for your
team's arrival, the answer is yes. We need C/R teams, Florida's incident command team is expected to be operational
for at least a month, and we desperately need C/R teams for the weeks starting 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, and 9/24 or any dates
during this time period you or your team can serve.
Louisiana is open to our C/R teams bringing un-credentialed volunteers. If you know of church teams who are willing
to bring teams, we will have plenty of work for them also. If church teams or individuals plan to work through
Florida DR we ask that they coordinate their arrival and departure through our command center # 304-400-2598 or
304-400-2257 or e-mail [email protected].
To date the Florida volunteers have had 180 chaplain contacts, 4 professions of faith, shared the gospel 30 times and
presented 71 bibles.
All DR volunteers, individuals or C/R teams should continue to use the [email protected] email and
send their roster into Linda & those listed at top of form.

Each September for the past 26 years, young Christians across America have gathered

schools in Burleson, Texas, is now an international event, with about 3 million participants
