CANCELLATION OF THE TEMPORARY IMPORTATION PERMIT
(“PERMISO DE IMPORTACIÓN TEMPORAL”)
STOLEN VEHICLE
1. Should the temporary imported vehicle not be returned because it was stolen, the importer
must pay the obligations from the Foreign Commerce Duty Tax, and any compensatory fees that
apply, aside from other obligations established on Article 95 of the “Ley Aduanera”.
2. The request for the cancellation of the temporary importation permit should be presented at
the nearest “Aduana” so that the verifier could assess the value of the vehicle and calculate the
Duty Tax that is owed.
3. The verifier will fill the corresponding form including determining the amount that the importer
must pay through any of the banks authorized to receive such payment.
4. Once the Duty Tax has been paid, the importer can request the cancellation of the “Permiso de
Importación Temporal”, by providing the following documentation:
- Copy of the Duty Tax payment slip.
- Copy of the stolen vehicle report filed with the Ministerio Público.
- Copy of the Certificate of Title of the vehicle.
- Original “Permiso de Importación Temporal de Vehículos”. If it’s missing, a report must be filed
with the Ministerio Público or fill the form “Declaración Bajo Protesta de Decir Verdad” that will be
provided.
- Copy of current ID.
TOTAL LOSS
1. If the imported vehicle was damaged beyond repair and considered a total loss by an insurance
company, no Duty Tax payment and/or compensatory payments will be requested. To be able to
waive off this payment, the importer must present a report to the Customs Authority in no more
than five natural days starting the day following the accident. This report must declare that the
vehicle is being put at the disposition of said authority (“Puesta a Disposición de los Restos”) and a
copy of the police report of the accident must be attached.
2. Once the report has been presented, the importer must send to the “Administración Central de
Planeación Aduanera” a request for the cancellation of the “Permiso de Importación Temporal”
(“Solicitud de Cancelación del Permiso de Importación Temporal”) and attach the following
documentation:
- Copy of the accident police report.
- Copy of the letter where you declare to put the vehicle at the authority’s disposition (“Puesta a
Disposición de los Restos”).
- Original “Permiso de Importación Temporal”. If it’s missing, a report must be filed with the
Ministerio Público or fill the form “Declaración Bajo Protesta de Decir Verdad” that will be
provided.
- Copy of current ID.
3. The “Administración de Información” will analyze the documentation submitted and in case it
should decide to agree with your request of cancelaltion, it will send a notice to Banjercito to
cancel the bond owed for the temporarily imported vehicle and notify by certified mail the result
of the request to the importer at the address he has established for notifications
