FRI, JULY 22, DAY 1: DEPARTING USA: We depart USA
en route to Krakow, Poland, with meals and beverages
aloft.
SAT, JULY 23, DAY 2: ARRIVE & TRANSFER TO
KRAKOW: We arrive and are met by our representative
of Catholic Travel Centre. We proceed to Krakow where
we have some time to rest from our journey and celebrate
Mass. Tonight we enjoy dinner at our hotel. (D)
SUN, JULY 24, DAY 3: KRAKOW: EXCURSION TO
WIELICZKA SALT MINES & DIVINE MERCY SHRINE
& JOHN PAUL II CENTER: We start with a visit to the
world famous Salt Mines in Wieliczka near Krakow. It is
the oldest salt mine in Europe, in operation since the 13th
century. This UNESCO
treasure now serves as
a museum and contains
an impressive display of
chambers, galleries, and
unique salt works. We
will descend 54 floors
below the surface to view
the labyrinthine mines
and the Church of St. Kinga, entirely carved from salt!
From Wieliczka we drive the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy
in Krakow-Lagiewniki where St. Faustina, the Apostle
of Divine Mercy, lived and died. We will enjoy the tour
of the convent guided by one
of the sisters. We also go to
the Basilica of Divine Mercy
built in 2002. Two popes have
visited the shrine, and millions
of pilgrims from around the
world continue to visit it every
year. Next to Divine Mercy
Sanctuary we visit the new
Pope John Paul II Center. We
return to the center of Krakow
for some time for shopping
and leisure. (B, D)
MON, JULY 25, DAY 4: KRAKOW: EXCURSION TO
KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA & WADOWICE &
AUSCHWITZ NAZI CAMP: In the morning we leave
for Wadowice. On the way we go to a place where as a
young man, Wojtyla came to pray and reflect upon his life
and service to God. In the lush, green hills of Kalwaria
Zebrzydowska, we find the famous Calvary paths, an
intertwining mesh of churches, chapels, and wayside
shrines originally built to replicate the city of Jerusalem.
These structures are the only examples (except for Gdansk)
of Dutch Renaissance architecture in Poland.
From Kalwaria we continue to Wadowice, the birthplace
of Pope John Paul II. The childhood home of the Wojtyla
family is now a museum, displaying many interesting
curios from the Pope’s life. A visit here provides an
entertaining, anecdotal panorama of the humble life of one
of the greatest figures of the 20th century. Nearby is the
parish church, which the young Wojtyla attended.
In the afternoon we visit is quite austere, a step back
into one of the darker moments in the 20th century. We
make our way to Oswiecim to the Nazi concentration
camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Considered one of the
largest and most heinous camps, this was the site where
approximately 1.5 million people lost their lives, among
them mostly Jews.
When the camp was liberated in 1945, fleeing German
troops attempted to destroy it, but they were unsuccessful.
Allied troops discovered about 7,000 remaining prisoners,
all in desolate condition. Auschwitz-Birkenau remains an
example of the destruction of World War II. Today the site
serves as a museum and is included on the UNESCO World
Heritage List. Our visit includes the cell of Fr. Maximilian
Kolbe, who gave his life in substitution for a prisoner who
was to be executed. We return to Krakow for evening and
dinner. (B, D)
TUE, JULY 26, DAY 5: KRAKOW: CITY TOUR,
OPENING CEREMONY & MASS: Krakow – one of the
great cities of Europe, rich in culture and history, and the
former archbishopric of Pope John Paul II. This is our
home for the next days!
In the morning we enjoy a
tour of old Krakow, the most
charming old city in all of
Poland. We begin with Wawel
Hill and the Cathedral.
Then we make our way to
Kanonicza Street, pausing at
the address where Pope John
Paul II resided while he served
as Archbishop of Krakow.
We pass by the Jagiellonian
University and come to the
main market square, one of
the most scenic public squares in all of Europe. Our visit
includes the Mariacki Church and the walls that protected
the city in the days when Krakow served as the home of the
Polish kings. This afternoon we participate in the official
opening of the World Youth Day in Krakow. (B)
WED, JULY 27, DAY 6 THROUGH FRI, JULY 29, DAY
8: KRAKOW: CATECHESIS & YOUTH FESTIVAL:
These days are filled with World Youth Day activities, with
catechesis in the morning and youth festival & cultural
activities for the remainder of the time.
On Fri, July 29, the Way of the Cross is celebrated. (B)
SAT, JULY 30, DAY 9: KRAKOW – PILGRIMAGE TO
PRAYER VIGIL WITH HOLY FATHER: Today we
make our pilgrimage walk to the site of the Closing Mass.
Tonight we participate in the
Evening Candlelight Vigil
with the Holy Father and
hundreds of thousands of our
fellow pilgrims from around
the world. (B)

CLOSING
MASS
FOR
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016:
This morning we awake and
celebrate the Closing Mass
of our World Youth Day Pilgrimage. We return to our
accommodations for the evening.
MON, AUG 1, DAY 11: KRAKOW: EXCURSION
TO TYNIEC - BENEDICTINE MONASTERY &
CZESTOCHOWA - JASNA GORA SHRINE / WARSAW:
After breakfast we depart from Krakow to nearby Tyniec,
where the oldest polish Benedictine monastery is located
(since 1044). We visit the church, the museum and have a
chance to get to know a bit about the life of contemporary
monks.
From Tyniec we continue to Czestochowa to visit Jasna
Gora Monastery, the most significant place of religious
worship in the Polish Catholic world. The site dates from
the 14th century. In recent years, nearly five million
pilgrims have visited the Monastery to see the miraculous
Black Madonna. Its tradition began when Prince Ladislaus
II of Opole invited Pauline monks to Poland. He gave them
Jasna Gora (Bright Hill) and a small church under the
invocation of the Holy Virgin Mary.
The prince presented them with the miraculous
picture of Our Lady, which
was supposedly painted by
Luke the Evangelist on a
wooden plank from the table
on which the Holy Family
dined. However, more recent
research proves it was a
Byzantine icon from the
6th or 7th century. During
the Hussite wars in 1430,
the monastery was sacked
and robbed and the picture
profaned. To this day, one
can see the sword-cuts on
the cheek of the Madonna. In the mid-17th century, Jasna
Gora was the only Polish stronghold the Swedish army
could not conquer during the so called Swedish Deluge. In
1717, the picture was crowned with papal diadem and was
called the picture of “Black Madonna.” After Jasna Gora
we continue to Warsaw for evening and dinner (B, D)
TUE, AUGUST 2, DAY 12: RETURN TO USA: After
breakfast we start our journey back home. (B)

Terms and Conditions
All travel arrangements will be made by Catholic Travel Centre. Making any payments
(cash, personal check, cashier check, money order, no credit card payment) towards any
tour constitutes your unconditional acceptance of all the terms and conditions stated in this
tour brochure. Catholic Travel Centre shall be referred to as CTC within this document.
DOCUMENTS: US citizens require a valid passport. Other nationalities please inquire
with the appropriate embassies. Passports must be valid for six months beyond the tour’s
return date.
REGISTRATION AND DEPOSITS: Registrations cannot be taken by telephone. Registrations are processed in the order received. Complete the registration form and return with
your deposit.

Non-refundable LATE PAYMENTS: Each late payment is subject to a non-refundable $50 late fee. If any
payment is not received within 14 days of due date shown above, we reserve the right to
cancel all airline and hotel space and to retain all received deposit payments made to date.
FINAL PAYMENT: Late registrations (received after February 1, 2016) must be accompanied by full payment by cashiers check only plus a non-refundable $150 late fee and are
subject to availability. CTC & Diocese of Charleston reserve the right to cancel reservations that are not paid in full by February 15, 2016 and retain all payments received. A
non-refundable $25 fee will be charged on all checks and online payments returned by
our bank.
CHANGES IN PACKAGE: After initial invoicing, any change in package from air inclusive
to “land only” or vice versa is subject to a non-refundable $50 per person per change
processing fee. Such changes must be finalized by the passenger in writing by February
1, 2016.
INDIVIDUAL CANCELLATION FEES & REFUNDS: All cancellations must be received in
writing via certified mail, facsimile or e-mail. All the payments made are NON-REFUNDABLE. CTC & Diocese of Charleston recommend that all passengers purchase some
form of passenger travel insurance. We offer an optional travel protection plan available

TOUR OPERATION & CANCELLATION: While no changes are anticipated, CTC & Diocese of Charleston expressly reserve the right to cancel all or any part of the tour or to
make any changes to the itinerary, for any reason or whenever it deems it necessary for
the comfort, convenience or safety of the tour participants. In the event of any alteration to
the itinerary, every effort will be made to substitute the altered activity with a comparable
replacement. If a tour is cancelled in its entirety by CTC & Diocese of Charleston, full
refunds shall be issued within three weeks of such cancellation. This will constitute, in full,
CTC & Diocese of Charleston’s obligation to you and CTC & Diocese of Charleston bear
no further responsibility beyond the full refund. CTC & Diocese of Charleston shall not
be held liable and hereby expressly disclaims liability for any loss, expense, damage or
inconvenience caused as a result of any tour cancellation or changes made to the itinerary.
Furthermore, CTC & Diocese of Charleston are not responsible for any additional costs or
fees relating to the issuance and/or cancellation of air tickets or other travel arrangements
not made through CTC & Diocese of Charleston.
CANCELLATION BEYOND CTC & DIOCESE OF CHARLESTON’s CONTROL: CTC &
Diocese of Charleston expressly disclaim any responsibility for any losses or expenses
incurred due to cancellation or alteration of the tour resulting from, but not limited to: cancellations due to travel advisories or warnings issued by the State Department or any
other relevant authority, acts of war, war, terrorism, acts of God, natural disasters or any
other circumstance beyond CTC & Diocese of Charleston’s control. In such case, CTC
will assist you in requesting refunds for all services prepaid but not rendered, less a nonrefundable $200 per person administrative fee. CTC & Diocese of Charleston shall not be
held responsible for any non-recoverable amounts disbursed to carriers or other service
providers on your behalf.
AIR TRANSPORTATION: Round-trip Economy Class. All airfare tickets, unless specifically stated otherwise, are non-refundable non-transferable. Airline space and fare is subject to final confirmation approximately 11 months prior to date of group’s return date to the
USA. Tour departure, date, and time are subject to confirmation of the airline space. CTC
reserves the right to recommend alternate departure/return dates if number of airline seats
required is not available. CTC reserves the right to change the arrival and/or departure city
in Europe to accommodate airline availability.
Airline schedules are subject to change without notice. CTC & Diocese of Charleston are
not responsible for itinerary changes necessitated by changes in the airline’s schedule.
You are responsible for any possible airline fuel surcharges and/or security fee surcharges
levied at the time of ticketing. No individual deviations will be allowed from the group itinerary. Passengers arranging their own airline transportation are responsible for meeting the
group at the first hotel of the group’s itinerary.
TRANSPORTATION TO WYD EVENTS: Transfers to official WYD Events will be by public transportation as included in the World Youth Day Registration Packet.
HEALTH: Most foreign countries do not conform to the U.S. A. Disabilities Act standard.
CTC & Diocese of Charleston cannot provide individual assistance to tour members for
walking, dining, getting on and off motor coaches or other transportation vehicles. Participants who need such assistance must be accompanied by a qualified companion at
all times and at their own expense. Furthermore, while CTC & Diocese of Charleston
cannot accept responsibility for providing access to all facilities included in a tour, CTC
& Diocese of Charleston will make every effort to assist in providing mobility aides to
the extent feasible and with applicable costs borne by the participant. CTC & Diocese of
Charleston assume no responsibility for the participant’s inability to fully participate in the
tour, nor can CTC & Diocese of Charleston provide any refund for non-participation in any
part of the tour.
DEVIATIONS: Deviations from the group flight itinerary are not possible. If you wish to
make your own airline arrangements and purchase the ‘land only’ version of the tour package, please contact your group coordinator for the ‘land only’ pricing.
AIRLINE SEATING, FREQUENT FLYER & MEAL REQUESTS: Seating is on a group basis only. CTC cannot accommodate any individual requests. CTC advises that you contact
the airline for frequent flyer miles and special meal requests two weeks prior to departure.
BAGGAGE: Baggage is at risk at all times. We strongly suggest that you bring only one
piece of checked luggage and one carry-on. The passenger is responsible at all times for
carrying their own luggage; porterage is not included.
ACCOMMODATIONS AND MEALS: Based on double/twin/triple accommodations with
private bathroom facilities (limited number of single rooms available). Triple room consists
of twin/double room plus a rollaway bed. There is no price reduction for a triple room. If
no roommate is available for you or your roommate cancels prior to departure, a single
supplement surcharge will apply. Meals are menu of the day as shown in the itinerary
(B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner).
SIGHTSEEING: By private motor coach with English-speaking guide/escort. Entrance
fees included per final itinerary.
PRICES: All prices are based on a rate of exchange in effect on July 14, 2014. Prices
include good faith estimate of the projected increases for 2016. Quotation is based on
minimum group size quoted and is subject to change if airfare increases at time of airline
confirmation or if exchange rate fluctuates.
Airline fuel charges subject to final confirmation at the time when the tickets are issued.
NOT INCLUDED: Passports and visas, meals not mentioned, beverages with meals, extras beyond standard menu, excess baggage, telephone calls, fuel surcharges, laundry or
any other items not explicitly stated as included.
LIABILITY DISCLAIMER: CTC & Diocese of Charleston hereby expressly disclaim any
and all liability for any personal injury, property damage, loss of baggage, accident, delay
or irregularity, any claim for special or consequential damages or any other loss which may

any air carrier, hotel/motel or other lodging operator, railroad operator, bus operator, public

any liability for statements, actions or inactions of any intermediary agents such as group
administrators, spiritual directors or tour leaders, travel agents or any other intermediary involved with the selling, promotion or operation of CTC & Diocese of Charleston’s
tour. Furthermore, to the fullest extent permitted by law, CTC & Diocese of Charleston
disclaim any liability for any damages or injuries, or other losses whatsoever, sustained or
incurred as a result of the negligence of CTC & Diocese of Charleston. Group administrators, spiritual leaders and tour leaders likewise expressly disclaim any liability for the acts
and/or omissions of any of the above entities and/or individuals not directly under their

in this brochure or other accompanying documentations and the contents therein may be
changed at any time without notice and at CTC & Diocese of Charleston’s sole discretion.

a state court in and for Los Angeles County, CA, or in the U.S. District Court for the Central
District of CA and shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.
