If you were there, you were part of a
great first night of Pro-Deo groups! Not
only do we have excellent teens
involved already, but our leaders are on
top of their game. Trust me when I say
you will want to be a part of this
ministry. Be sure to check the list below
to determine what group you need to
attend. We have some great curriculum,
leaders, and food this year! Come on
out this Wednesday.
•
•
•
•
Jr. High Group (all 7th and 8th
Graders) will be meeting in the Rest
Room (the room with the couches)
next to the Youth Room from 7:00 8:00 pm. If you want to show up
around 6:30, the leaders will be in
the gym to hang out with you.

DON’T FORGET, that on the last
Wednesday of the month, we
WILL NOT HAVE PRO-DEO

Pancake Outreach Service in the
Youth Room for all teenagers.
Oct. 22: Groups meet in homes
Oct. 29: No Pro-Deo groups. Pancake

•
October 19: Movie Night with

Event from 4 - 8 pm. Events will
include prayer room, group prayer
room, Bible reading, and then
sharing experienced at “HeBrews”.
November 2: No SNA due to BKU
Night.
Movie Night with
Nathan & Kim RETURNS!
Iron Man will be playing at a screen near
you today starting promptly at 5 pm. In
fact, it will be playing at the infamous
Rest Room movie screen upstairs in the
Youth Room that renowned critic, Kim
Tucker, exclaimed as, “nothing beats
relaxing in the tub with the latest movie,
some popcorn and all your friends – it’s
the latest experience that everyone must
try!” One thing to remember…NO
DINNER will be served.
Instead,
GUYS are in charge of bringing
drinks and GIRLS are in charge of
bringing snacks. So invite your friends
and come pull up a tub, couch, toilet, or
the old school floor and enjoy Iron Man
tonight!
HOUSE OF PRAYER
After the blessings from this summer
with the House of Prayer, we want to
open up the Youth Room on Sunday,
October 26 from 4 – 8 pm for a mini
House of Prayer. We will have a prayer
room in the main Youth Room with live
feed from IHOP, as well as using the
Rest Room as a Bible Reading area. In
addition, there will be an open
classroom for people to pray in groups
over one another and the last hour the
“HeBrews” coffee shop will be open to
have a reflection/sharing experience
over one’s time with God. Though this
is a teen event, we encourage anyone of
any age to come and share in this
experience and invite friends. This
would be a great time to spend in prayer
over next summer’s House of Prayer and
your role in it since we will be needing
teens to start planning it soon, as well as
adults to help out. Start praying now
for the mini House of Prayer and other
Houses of Prayer to come!
Tucker Thoughts...
Fall is filled with activities and events,
so let us know what, when, and where
they are because we want to come and
support you! It doesn’t matter if it’s
school or job related, a sports game or
chess championship, role in a play or
dressing up as a turkey for a store’s
Thanksgiving sale – we want to know
them all! I’ve already had the privilege
of hearing Kathryn Dunn’s powerful
and beautiful solo in Duncanville’s
marching show, as well as guessing
which of the disciplined marchers are
Joseph Easley, Cassie Gray, Al-Vincent
Joubert, Brian Kelton, and well,
Brennan Utley with his snare is easy to
pick out! And there’s always Emily
Bevers doing an awesome job cheering
and encouraging school spirit at every
Duncanville game! I think Emily should
come up with a youth group cheer…just
a thought! Though, I haven’t gotten to
go, Scott came back exclaiming the fun
he had watching Austin Meter at the
Red Oak football games. And Tuesday
night I got to enjoy the phenomenal job
David Vehon does with the Midlothian
choir concert. I encourage anyone, even
if you do not live in Midlothian, to come
to one because they are always fun and
impressive. And we have some
outstanding singers in them, such as
Mckenzie Casada, Nicole Simpson, and
Sarah Sullivan.
They did such a
amazing job Tuesday night! Some
upcoming events that are around the
corner are:
Friday, Oct. 24, 7:30 pm:
● Duncanville vs South Grand
Prairie (Zane’s school!!!) football
game in Duncanville
● Midlothian Homecoming game
vs. University in Midlothian
Saturday, Oct. 25: UIL Area
Marching Band Contest in Mesquite
Sunday, Oct. 26 & Tuesday, Oct.
28: Midlothian HS play “Harvey”
with Ashley Branham
Friday, Oct. 31:
● Cedar Hill homecoming game vs
Irving in Cedar Hill
● Midlothian vs Ennis football
game in Midlothian
Good morning and welcome! We are pleased to have you join in the public assembly this
morning. Though this brief time together does not define us as a congregation, it is still an
important part of what we do and who we are. We are simply a local gathering of God’s
people dedicated to the mission of “Knowing God; Growing in faith; Serving one
another; and Sharing Jesus as Lord.” We are undenominational and multicultural. All
who name Jesus as Lord are invited to share in the Lord’s Supper. Guests, please feel no
obligation to participate in our weekly collection. We don’t want your money; we’re just
honored to have you in the house. Please stay and have lunch with us in the Fellowship
Center...We have two assemblies every Sunday morning. The early service is always an
hour and five minutes, while the second assembly is longer. If you like precision, we invite
you to worship with us at 8:30…Please bring your candy the next two weeks to give away
at our annual Fall Festival, Oct. 31. We will have hundreds and hundreds of kids on the
grounds. It’s big fun for everyone, and a pleasant alternative to much of the Halloween
insanity that hallmarks the day…We need a videographer. If you have interest and skill,
please let me know. We have a wonderful new camera; we just need an operator…The
ministry team, complete with elders, gathered together twice in the last ten days to plan and
budget for 2009. Ministry leaders, please be giving immediate attention to your budgets for
next year. We will try to resource you properly. None of us are foolish enough to predict
the coming economy, but we are strategizing in a flexible manner...Scott has been to
Chicago this week for a lengthy seminar concerning Small Groups. He and Kim will be
good leaders for our Life Groups. Please support them as Bryan transitions out of the role.
Keep looking up—trusting God…Ya’ know I love ya’!
~Ron
SERVING TOGETHER...CHURCH & FAMILY LIFE NEWS
It is such a privilege to serve and minister with such a grace-filled church. I hear comments
weekly from folks in our community about how the Lord is working in your lives and the
testimony that it is to others. Duncanville Church of Christ is truly becoming known as a
place of grace — “The GracePlace.” What a fine description of who we are at the
Duncanville Church of Christ. Our community has taken notice! Praise God! Keep
praying, keep serving, and keep sharing! Because of our graciousness to our community
there are always opportunities to serve in the kingdom. Some opportunities hide behind the
scenes — tending to a flower bed, making sure our emergency response equipment is
charged, cutting out class material, or visiting a shut-in. Others are very public —
coordinating a community outreach event, teaching a class, leading a Life Group, or serving
as a greeter. Some of you have God-given talents that you would like to share — please do.
We will graciously accept your sacrifice of service and love. A very special thanks to the
scores of people who share acts of service each and every week, week in and week out —
as a celebration of the grace given to them. Isn’t it great to have an opportunity to serve
out of gratitude and love? Isn’t it great to have a gracious place from which to serve? Let
me encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance to lead you to that very special place of
service that He has prepared for you. The Duncanville Church of Christ—The Grace
Place!
~Hugs, Jeff

IMPORTANT TEXTS:
TODAY’S EVENTS:
Jesus taught the early disciples many things in both Word
and deed. Jesus is the world’s most remarkable leader—
The True Servant leader—and He imparted both wisdom
and example to His followers. The New Testament is
packed with stories and teachings regarding Spiritual
Leadership. Here are five important (but certainly not
exhaustive) elements of effective Spiritual Leadership
taught by Jesus and practiced by the Apostles:

ACTIVIDAD DEL 31 DE OCTUBRE
ASUNTOS EN LA ADORACION
Nuestro hermano Gustavo Lomeli
compartió con la congregación el
domingo pasado sobre la idea de
preparar vasitos con dulces con el logo
tipo de la iglesia, para luego distribuirlos
en la actividad que tendremos el 31 de
este mes. A todos nos pareció excelente
la idea y haremos los preparativos
necesarios.
A medida que nuestro
hermano nos brinde más información
sobre los preparativos que él necesita
hacer, los daremos a conocer a la
congregación. Al respecto, se pide que
las familias de esta iglesia hagan
donativos de dulces y pasteles para
luego darlos gratis a nuestra comunidad
en ese dia. Se encuentran depósitos en
las entradas a nuestro edificio por si
gustan colaborar y contribuir a este
esfuerzo.
Recuerden que habrá una
diversidad de actividades para niños con
distintos puestos y juegos para los ellos
y toda la familia.
Últimamente han notado la
incorporación de cantos bilingües en la
adoración por la mañana. Es algo
intencional que hemos decido hacer para
mejor incorporar la participación de
nuestros niños. Nosotros como adultos
conocemos los cantos al entonarlos en
nuestra idioma, pero como los niños
entienden poco español (o por lo menos
se les dificulta leerlo), hemos decido
buscar la formar de mejor incorporar su
participación. Y un buen principio para
ayudarles con esto es cantando los
himnos y cantos en ambos idiomas. A
necesarios.
