The heart of the farm. And the joy in the work.
Once a pioneer,
always a pioneer.
Over 160 years ago, Daniel Massey
started it all. He was a family man,
working man, businessman, inventor,
tradesman, manager, entrepreneur and
genius. In other words, he was a farmer.
For more than 50 years, we’ve shown
that same commitment in the hay and
forage business, too. Since 1955,
Hesston has been the undisputed
leader, with innovations like the first
self-propelled windrower, the first
hydrostatic windrower, and the first big
rectangular baler.
Today, more than ever, we’re determined to prove that the heart of the
original Massey Ferguson and Hesston
brands still beats under the shiny new
exteriors of every model we make.

Farming keeps evolving. So do our balers.
For more than 30 years, Hesston’s been the first name in balers.
Guess that’s why all those other guys incorporate so many of
the features we’ve pioneered over the years. Well, now we’re
raising the bar again, with the all-new Hesston 2800 Series by
Massey Ferguson and our tried-and-true Hesston 1700 Series.
Available in 4 x 6 and 5 x 6 models, Hesston 2800 Series highcapacity balers have everything you need to streamline the
job and maximize your productivity. The advanced Console I
provides real-time monitoring and bale control. Our exclusive
Quad Cylinders System (QCS) delivers absolute control over
belt and bale tension. And our one-of-a-kind independent
flotation system ensures a smoother ride, greater stability and
faster operating speeds. We are also the only manufacturer in
North America to offer a fully automatic baler – our Hesston
2846A and 2856A Auto-cycle models.
But, say you don’t need all the bells and whistles. Then consider a
Hesston 1700 Series round baler, with the same Hesston quality,
dependability and durability, at a price that’s easy to live with.
You still get innovative features like our patented open-throat
design and vertical bale chamber, for consistently solid, highquality bales. You even get our time-tested Hesston drive system,
known for its long-lasting performance and lower operating cost.
Of course, there’s one more thing that sets Hesston round
balers apart – your local Massey Ferguson dealer. With years of
experience selling and servicing Hesston balers, there’s nobody
better to help you choose the right model for your operation
and your budget.
So, consider our model chart. Then turn the page and look around.
And let us help you find the round baler that’s made just for you.

Hesston 2800 Series by Massey Ferguson
Worth a second look,
and maybe a third.
The first time you glimpse our new Hesston 2800
Series balers by Massey Ferguson, it’s immediately obvious that these high-capacity balers have
evolved – completely. But take another look.
Under the gleaming red sheet metal, you’ll find some
of the most advanced baling features in the business.
Consider the renowned Hesston baler drive system,
for example. This simple drive system is modeled after our legendary Hesston 2100 Series large square
balers, which are still number one on the market
today. With only five chains, our exclusive reversible
540 or 1,000 gear box, and built-in overfill protection, our drive system combines simplicity with
strength, for greater reliability, durability and safety.
Look even closer and you’ll see the unique design of
our super-wide, low-profile pickup – starting with
a small-diameter pickup that sticks out further for
improved visibility. Higher capacity, positive rotor
feeding incorporates side augers to simplify the
drive system and provide quieter, more dependable
performance.
Combine all this with an open-throat vertical
chamber and more starting roll bars, and you get a
high-throughput baler that can handle whatever your
operation demands – whether you’re a large dairy
or livestock farmer or a commercial hay producer.
With a wide, low-profile pickup
and centering augers, the
Hesston 2800 Series tackles
wide windrows with ease, while
maximizing leaf retention. And
by packing the chamber all
the way to the edges, dense,
square-shouldered bales result.
The 2800 Series round baler
creates two baling sizes – 4 x 6 ft.
and 5 x 6 ft. It includes both Autotie and Auto-cycle™ to enhance
The hydraulically operated
main drive clutch protects
against overfilling and maintains tension on belts during
bale ejection, minimizing belt
problems. For quick, easy
maintenance, all major drive
components are accessed
through the convenient
one-piece service door.
2800 Series / Baler Drive System & Pickup
With fewer, heavier drive
chains, the new 2800 Series
baler drive delivers unsurpassed
simplicity. And that translates
into greater reliability and
durability for even the largest
operations.
PAGE 9
output and efficiency. High intake
capacity comes from a wide,
functional pickup design similar
to that of the industry-leading,
Hesston large square balers.
Everything about them saves you time, money and effort.
When we set out to create the new Hesston 2800 Series, we knew these balers had to do more than
just bale hay. They had to be good stewards of your time. And your money. And your peace of mind.
That’s why the Hesston 2800 Series is designed to be the epitome of efficiency and convenience.
Features like our unique Quad Cylinders System (QCS) ensure you have more control over baling, while
giving you less to worry about. With QCS, belt tension stays consistent, even when ejecting bales, for
superior bale density and less chance of belt misalignment. Staggered belts increase the effect, while also
reducing chaff buildup. Other design innovations, like Sure-Trac crowned drive rollers, a dual-tube twine
arm, and three-ply Wedgegrip bale forming belts, also contribute to better bales, longer service life, and
less maintenance.
Other design enhancements, like sturdy alligator belt lacing, ensure reliable performance and cut maintenance time. Our simplified, positive hydraulic kicker ejects bales gently and puts them right where you want
them. Standard Auto-tie or available fully-automated Auto-cycle both take the hard work out of building
high-quality bales. Heck, we even cleverly designed surfaces around the pump, pickup and kicker to discourage trash build-up, so there’s less time-consuming chaff build-up that can wreak havoc with your baling.
Forming the perfect bale
Open-throat feeding assures
high-capacity baling on all Hesston
round baler models. As the pickup
gently moves the hay into the
bale-forming chamber, the forming
belts and starter roll begin rolling
the all-important bale core.
The variable bale chamber design
produces a consistently dense bale,
from the core to the outermost
layer. This advanced design delivers
a dense bale that’s easy to handle
and keeps it shape in storage.
Consistent bale density ensures
a high-quality bale every time.
Bales are dense, square-shouldered
and packed consistently all the
way from the center to the outside layer.
The large twine box adjusts to hold 8 20,000foot balls or 12 10,000-foot balls, so you can
keep baling all day long. The convenient location allows easier access to the baler drives.
2800 Series / Speed & Wrapping System
PAGE 11
Optional mesh wrap capability can be factoryor field-installed. Simple mesh feeding and
routing, plus extra roll storage, makes it faster
and easier to start baling and keep baling. It’s
even easier to load rolls.
Brains, brawn and comfort?
You bet your bottom dollar.
The hay business is nothing new for you. Same
for us. That’s why you know that nothing beats
legendary Hesston quality and durability. So,
imagine getting all that, plus a healthy dose of
comfort, every time you bale.
Along with our exclusive optional independent
torsion axle suspension, the rugged Hesston
2800 Series features large flotation tires
and independent gauge wheels for improved
pickup, greater stability, a smoother ride and
increased operating speeds. Other brawny
features include a strengthened baler frame,
improved shielding, and positive tailgate lock.
Of course, you also know it takes more to
succeed in the hay business these days than just
rugged reliability. It takes smarts. The kind we
built into our new Hesston 2800 Series balers.
Take our cutting-edge Console I terminal, for
example. Three years in the making, this
exclusive console provides real-time, advanced
monitoring and bale control to give you the
flexibility to build better bales.
And that’s just one of the ways we made the
2800 Series smarter. There’s a whole lot more.
And there’s nobody better to fill you in than
your Massey Ferguson dealer.
Visit today, and see for yourself. The new
2800 Series isn’t just the toughest baler on the
block. It’s the brightest, too.
Gauge wheels keep their feet on the
ground. Pickup height follows ground
contours, so you gather every possible
leaf of your valuable crop.
PAGE 13
Our advanced Console I terminal
makes it easy to monitor and control
baler functions. With more settings for
greater flexibility, real-time monitoring,
and an easy-to-read color display, you
can count on consistently better bale
density and superior bale production.
2800 Series / Suspension, Frame & Monitor
You’ll enjoy a noticeably
smoother ride and greater
stability when traveling on
the road or baling in the
field, thanks to the Hesstonexclusive, torsion axle and
large flotation tires.
Hesston 1700 Series by Massey Ferguson
Professional grade. Practical price.
What’s more, Hesston 1734 and 1745 balers incorporate the
legendary Hesston drive system. With only four chains and
fewer moving parts, this reliable drive system delivers longlasting performance, reduced maintenance, and lower operating
costs. The balanced tension system uses twin hydraulic cylinders
and two springs – one on each side of the baler – to maintain
tension on the bale, reduce strain on the baler frame, and build
more uniform bales.
Auto-tie monitor option
The 1745 Auto-tie bale monitor gives you fingertip control of
automatic, semi-automatic or manual modes. In auto mode,
a “full bale” alert sounds when the bale reaches the pre-set
diameter, and the baler automatically begins the tying process.
In semi-automatic mode, the “full bale” alert signals the
operator to activate the “cycle start” switch. In manual mode,
the operator assumes complete control of the tying process.
Available in 2010, the Hesston 1745 will be
offered with a mesh wrap option. Modeled
after the new Hesston 2800 Series round
balers, the 1745 features easy mesh routing
and extra roll storage to keep you baling
longer. Additionally, a combination of fewer
moving parts and sealed bearings makes for
less maintenance.
PAGE 15
Engineered to handle 2,500 or more bales every year, these
workhorses are the only balers in their class to feature dual
pivoting tension arms for more uniform bales. And 1700 Series
balers feature the same patented open-throat design and
vertical bale chamber as our 2800 Series balers, so there aren’t
any feed rolls, compression rolls or drum rollers to restrict hay
flow or create wrapping problems.
1700 Series / Models 1734 & 1745
The way we see it, just because you want to turn out topquality, 3 x 4 or 4 x 5 bales doesn’t mean you should have to
pay top dollar for a baler. That’s why we built our Hesston
1700 Series balers to turn out solid, easy-to-handle round
bales with as little as 30 PTO HP.
Easy to buy. Even easier to own.
When it comes to real value in a larger round baler,
nothing beats the Hesston 1746 and 1756 models.
Cranking out the same big 4 x 6 and 5 x 6 bales as their
2800 Series counterparts, these two 1700 Series balers
don’t skimp on features.
Like the smaller 1700 Series balers, the Hesston 1746
and 1756 are the only value-priced round balers to
feature dual pivoting tension arms for better bale
uniformity. Add Massey Ferguson’s patented openthroat design and vertical bale chamber, and you’re
ready to build solid, consistent bales with less power
consumption.
Labor-saving Auto-tie is standard on both the Hesston
1746 and 1756 models, and mesh wrap and bale kicker
are factory-installed or field-installed options. Combine
all these conveniences with the fully featured standard
bale monitor, and you’ve got a baler that, while elegantly
simple, gives you everything you need for fast, troublefree baling.
In keeping with our simpler-is-better philosophy, the
Hesston 1746 and 1756 also make maintenance a snap.
It all goes back to the simple yet strong Hesston drive
system, our heavy-duty construction, and the legendary
Hesston quality that’s built into every baler we make.
After all, the way we see it, our balers should do more
than deliver high-quality bales at an affordable price.
They should be so easy to own that you’d buy one all
over again – assuming you ever needed to.
Tried-and-true performance
and simplicity of design are
hallmarks of the 1700 Series.
In fact, you won’t find a
better value anywhere.
Bale Monitor
Control key features like driving lights,
optional mesh controls and the optional hydraulic kicker function from the
convenience of the fully featured bale
monitor. The standard Auto-tie even lets
you choose between the fully automated
mode, a semi-automated mode or full
manual control of the tying process.
Crowned Drive Rollers
The Sure-Trac drive roller has a crowned
drive surface that keeps belts centered and
turning, even in adverse conditions, so you
get longer belt life and less maintenance.

We set the standard, and now we’re raising it.
For lots of folks, when you’re talking hay, you’re talking Hesston. That’s because, for years as the leader in hay, the
Hesston name has stood for quality, performance and innovation in hay equipment.
Well, now we’re raising the bar again, with our new Hesston 2800 Series by Massey Ferguson. Along with legendary
Hesston dependability and durability, these round balers boast a long list of features you just can’t get with any other
baler. Features like our advanced Console I terminal, reversible PTO gear box, and independent torsion axle suspension.
Of course, our 1700 Series balers continue to deliver the same rugged, cost-efficient performance Hesston’s known
for. And, even though some folks consider these tried-and-true, heavy-duty balers to be real workhorses, we still
keep packing them with more features that also make them easy to operate and maintain.
Combine all this with our extensive warranty, our excellent financing, and our dedicated dealer support, and you’ll
see – you simply couldn’t make a wiser investment than a Hesston baler. So, see your Massey Ferguson dealer today.
And discover why the saying “Nobody knows hay like Hesston” rings as true today as it has for the last 30 years.
Welcome
to the family.
