January through April 2016 Session
Welcome to 2016! As we welcome the New Year we also move into the depths of winter. For
many, this is a time to “hunker down,” and recede into the warmth of home and hearth for the
long dark winter. Many quilters and sewers, (a hearty group) do not seem to shift into the
contemplative moods of winter. We tend to look forward to new projects, buoyed by Holiday
projects completed and the opportunity to move on.
For those of you who would like to step out into the bracing chill of winter, we have a whole
new offering of classes with instructors to help you navigate through the projects. From the
antique fabric prints of Latimer Farms block of the month to the Bench Pillow of the Month, a
12-month “pick-up” kit designed by Kimberbell, and everything in-between. Please take a look at the class and project listing and see what might
make your winter a time for shaking off any cabin fever that might like to seep in!

As the proud new owner of a Husqvarna
Viking Sewing machine, it’s time to learn
all the wonderful features available on
your machine. Bring your machine, power
cord, foot pedal, accessories and user’s
guide and learn what your machine can do
for you.
Classes are $10 for those who purchase
their machine from Ruth’s Stitchery. You
will receive a $10 in store coupon when
attending as scheduled. Classes are $50
per session for those who have purchased
their machine elsewhere.
Know-How classes are scheduled every
two weeks with the intent to get you into
a class soon after you purchase your
machine. Please let us know if you have
not received your Know How class and we
will be happy to schedule one for you.

Solid plus Essentials Gems and Jewels
Strip packs. See what’s new at
Wilmington and play “fabric buyer” as Kay
shows what’s coming. This event is free
however, space is limited and registration
is required.
The second trunk show is from Andover
Fabrics featuring the Little House on the
Prairie line which arrived in November.

months of quilting suspense. The theme
is “Quilter’s Legacy” and features the

quilt. This mystery has already begun, but
kits are still available, and with a little
effort it is possible to catch up.

On the first of each month stop into the
store and pick up a new bench pillow kit
related to a season or holiday. Each kit
contains everything needed to make a
pillow cover – including embellishments.
The first four months include a Valentine,
a Welcome Spring, a May Flowers and a
Slice of Summer Watermelon pillow. If
you’d rather not make a pillow, these
whimsical designs would work equally
well for a table runner, a small topper for
a couch or bed or even a small wall
hanging. The registration fee includes all
materials to make your pillow form.

Electric Quilt – Easy Draw

EQ7 has four drawing modes. In this class
we will explore the first – “Easy Draw.”
This tool is used for drawing pieced blocks
much as you would use paper and pencil.
You can draw straight and semi-circular
lines to subdivide a square or rectangle
into patchwork sections. This tool is great
for creating traditional and foundation
pieced blocks. We will spend a little time
learning to recognize what sort of grid a
block is based upon to make it easier to
draft that block. To get the most out of
this class, bring your laptop to follow
along.
Electric Quilt – Quilt Layout

Electric Quilt is a powerful and fun tool for
creating quilts. In this class, we will focus
on quilt layout using the blocks included
with EQ7. Explore the 10 different layout
options in the software from horizontal to
custom. We’ll learn how to create a quilt
from a block and how to use the premade
layouts from the layout library. Bring your
laptop with EQ7 loaded and follow along
or just come and watch the software in
action on the screen.

Latimer Farms by Red Crinoline Quilts is a
block of the month created for Marcus
Brothers. This 12 month program consists
of thirty-six 6” finished block centers with
sashing added to make the blocks 10”
finished before adding a black frame. With
the addition of sashing and borders the
quilt finishes at 101” square.
The Latimer Farms fabric line was
designed specifically for this program and
the pattern is available only with the kit.
The kits will include all fabrics necessary
to finish the quilt top. You may opt to join
the block party or to just pick up a kit each
month.

This six month
BOM gives
you the
opportunity to
use your
sewing
machine feet
to make a
twin size quilt.
A few of the
techniques used include: pintucking, twin
and wing needles, bobbinwork, fringe or
tailor tack foot, couching, circular
attachment, ruffler, and the binder foot to
add accents. Choose to have a bright quilt
as shown in the picture, or limit your
palette to 3 or 4 colors. Bring your sewing
machine to this class – please note we
only stock the specialty feet for Viking
machines. If you are using a different
brand you will need to acquire the feet
elsewhere prior to class. You should have
a good basic working knowledge of your
machine prior to class.
Stitching Society

Beginning in March, you will learn 61
different embroidery stitches and stitch
combinations, get a small project pattern
each month and receive 180 for hexagon
motifs. Many people work the motifs in
wool, but the projects are optional. You
are welcome to just learn the stitches and
work on your own projects. The purpose
of the class is to learn how to “stitch”
while you make wonderful small projects
or blocks for a quilt. Stitches start with
the basics and become more complex.
Please register by January 31 to ensure
your kit is available at the first class.

software. This demo which is offered
monthly will give you an overview of just
how powerful the Premier Plus Software
is. While the demo is free, please register
in advance.
Class Policy
Please pre-register for all classes and pay the
registration fee in full at least one week prior
to class. Class fees are refundable or
transferable only if we cancel the class or if
you cancel 7 days prior to class. In fairness to
our teachers and other students, there are no
exceptions. Many of our classes require a
minimum enrollment. If the minimum is not
met one week prior to class, we will cancel
the class. Please keep this in mind when
purchasing supplies.
We cannot accommodate children during
class – please honor this. It is not fair to other
students or the instructor when someone
tries to bend this rule.
Any supplies included with the class fee are
listed with the class description.
Private lessons are available at instructor
discretion at a rate of $50 per hour.
