VITAE
Born in Salzburg (Austria), primary school in Siezenheim (Austria), high school
(Werkschulheim Felbertal) in Ebenau (Austria). Certified as a craftsman (carpenter) in 1974,
matriculation ("Reifeprüfung") in 1975. Military service 1975/76 (lieutenant
[“Oberleutnant”]).
Medical school from 1976 to 1982 at the University of Innsbruck (Austria). Master of
Public Health Degree from the School of Public Health and Hygiene at the Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore (Maryland) in 1994. „Postgradueller Hochschulkurs für medizinische
Führungskräfte“ at the University of Salzburg 1997. Married to Dr. Veronika AllerbergerSchuller, civil servant at the University of Innsbruck. Proud father of Sebastian Josef
Allerberger.
Residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of Tamsweg (Austria) 1982/83. From
1983 till May 2002 employed at the Federal Public Health Laboratory in Innsbruck,
tenureship in 1985. Residency at the Department for Clinical Microbiology at the Mayo Clinic
in Rochester (Minnesota) during a sabbatical year (1989/90). Faculty Member at the
Department for Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Johns Hopkins University in
Baltimore during a second sabbatical year in 1993/94. In 1992 the venia legendi was
confered for "Hygiene, Microbiology and Preventive Medicine", in 1998 the title “a.o. Univ.Prof.“, in 2006 the title “Univ.-Prof.” From June 2002 till 2003 staff member of the Institute
for Hygiene and Social Medicine at the University of Innsbruck (on unpaid leave as of 2003).
As of 2003, head of division area human medicine at the Austrian Agency for Health and
Food Safety in Vienna, as of 2006 statutory officer (“Prokurist”). As of July 4, 2006
“Unterschriftsbefugnis für Gutachten nach dem Lebensmittelsicherheit- und
Verbraucherschutzgesetz”. From 2004 till 2008 and again since 2011
“Lehrveranstaltungskoordinator Mikrobiologie und Infektiologie” at the Paracelsus Medical
University in Salzburg.
