We believe that there is only
one environment and that this
environment is global ..
Schaeffler unites its three great well-known
brands INA, FAG and LuK under one roof.
With more than 82,000 employees at over 180
locations worldwide we manufacture components
and systems for the automotive industry and
sixty other industrial sectors.
Our commitment to active environmental protection and occupational safety has been firmly
established in our company’s management principles from the very beginning. One of the first
of these principles states, “Exemplary actions
based on clearly defined ethical values determine our success.” It goes on to say: “We assume
responsibility for our environment.“ Meeting this
requirement means recognizing risks, analyzing and evaluating facts and making the right
decisions for a particular situation. We established a group-wide environmental protection and
occupational safety policy years ago to serve as
guidelines for our actions. These guidelines are
evaluated regularly and basic ideas are adjusted
to match ever changing requirements.
What is special about our environmental protection and occupational safety management
system compared to many other companies is
its worldwide implementation at the same high
standard. We do not make a distinction between our plants in Germany, other countries in
Europe, the United States, Asia or other manufacturing sites. We believe that there is only one
environment and that this environment is global
and worth protecting everywhere. The same
applies when it comes to evaluating our employees’ workplace environment. Here, we make
no compromises in maintaining high standards,
true to our conviction that safety must have top
priority – worldwide. We began more than ten
years ago to validate all plants to EMAS environmental protection regulations and to have them
certified to ISO 14001. In 2010, we reached this
ambitious goal for all of our 80 production sites
worldwide.
Our commitment to environmental protection
has gained recognition by our customers as well
as political leaders. We have received the Ford
Motor Company’s World Award for Environmental
Leadership Worldwide multiple times. Receiving the Environmental Medal of the State of
Bavaria, The European EMAS Award as well as
the EcoGlobe in 2010 and 2011 serve as both a
confirmation for our policy and a motivation to
continue on our course.

Our Divisions
Automotive
The automotive industry is our main group of
customers and represents 60 percent of sales.
For this industry, Schaeffler is a recognized
development partner with systems expertise for
the entire power train – i.e. engine, transmission,
chassis and accessory drives in passenger cars
and commercial vehicles. Schaeffler offers
a wide range of products that ranges from
energy-efficient solutions for classic powertrains
with internal combustion engines to products
for hybrid vehicles to Components for electro­
mobility. Precision products made by INA,
LuK and FAG help vehicles use less energy and
emit fewer emissions without reducing driving
comfort, safety and fun. Our customers world­
wide include all renowned automobile manu­
facturers and suppliers.
Our Automotive Aftermarket provides replacement parts in OE quality as well as comprehensive services to distributors and independent
repair shops around the globe. It helps promote
qualifications and expertise in brands and products and provides marketing support.

Industrial
Through its global organization and application
support teams close to the market, our Industrial Division supplies rolling and sliding bearing
solutions, linear and direct drive technology in
the INA and FAG brands for around 60 industrial
sectors. Its products include more than 225,000
items, ranging from miniature bearings only a
few millimeters in size, such as those used in
dental drills, to large-size bearings with an
outside diameter of several meters for wind
turbines. The Industrial Division’s renowned
“Aviation and Aerospace” group designs highprecision bearings for airplanes, helicopters and
rocket engines such as the ones used in the
Airbus A 380 and Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner.
Special applications with high-precision bearings,
e. g. in medical engineering, complete our
product range.
Schaeffler’s Industrial Aftermarket (IAM) handles
the replacement parts and service business for
end customers and distributors. IAM is a strong
partner and offers its customers innovative
products and services that significantly improve
the service life and performance of production
facilities. In addition to a comprehensive range
of rolling bearing products, the IAM portfolio
ranges from mechanical assembly tools to
intelligent online monitoring systems, from
service training courses to fully customized
maintenance solutions.

Besides being close to the customer anywhere
in the world, our strong employee focus and
having sustainable management, other important
success factors include innovative power and
creativity. Around 6,000 employees develop new
products, technologies, processes and methods
at 40 R&D locations to provide market-oriented
solutions. With more than 1,800 patent applications and over 18,000 patents and patent
applications currently in effect, Schaeffler is one
of the innovation leaders in manufacturing. Our
primary development locations in Germany are
in Herzogenaurach, Schweinfurt and Bühl, all of
which are linked to other development centers

Our Brands
INA
Founded in 1946 by brothers and Ph.D. holders Wilhelm Schaeffler and Georg Schaeffler in
Herzogenaurach, this brand has become a global
player as a rolling bearing manufacturer and automotive supplier. The INA brand primarily includes rolling bearings, linear systems and engine
components. The success of this company with
headquarters in Herzogenaurach began in 1949
when Georg Schaeffler developed the needle roller and cage assembly – an ingenious invention
that helped needle roller bearings achieve their
international breakthrough. In 1952, an INA-made needle roller bearing replaced the previously
used plain bearings in VW Beetle transmissions
and represented the beginning of an “automotive career.” Today, there are hardly any passenger cars without INA engine and transmission
components. Cam phasers and hydraulic bucket
tappets ensure higher performance, reduced
consumption, fewer emissions and more driving
comfort in modern engines.
The highly varied activities of the Automotive
and Industrial Divisions with regard to electric
mobility are concentrated in our “E-Mobility
System House.” Our wide range of products
already offers a multitude of solutions, ranging
from sensor bottom brackets for electric bikes
to start-stop systems and hybrid clutches all the
way down to electric drives.

LuK
In the Schaeffler Group, LuK is the company that
focuses exclusively on the automotive industry.
LuK was cofounded by the Schaeffler brothers in
Bühl in 1965 and immediately took the technological lead in the market with its first innovative
product, a diaphragm spring clutch. The LuK
Group has been fully owned by Schaeffler since
1999. A number of groundbreaking products
followed, such as the selfadjusting clutch for
dualmass flywheels and the dry dual clutch.
Innovation and technological leadership are important company pillars. Today, one out of four
cars world-wide has a LuK clutch.

LuK works closely with its customers to find
solutions for tomorrow’s automotive world.
Examples include dual clutch transmissions and
components for continuously variable transmissions, products that provide added safety and
comfort and fewer emissions.
FAG
The FAG brand and the rolling bearing industry
are inseparably linked. In 1883 Friedrich Fischer
designed a ball mill in Schweinfurt that allowed
him for the first time to produce high-precision
steel balls in large quantities by machine. This
invention is generally considered the historical beginning of the rolling bearing industry,
which started its triumphant road to success
in Schweinfurt. Ever since, FAG (Fischer Aktiengesellschaft) rolling bearings – a registered
trademark since 1905 – have been synonymous
with firstclass products and expertise.
Since its acquisition by INA-Holding Schaeffler
KG in 2001, FAG has been an important part
of the Schaeffler Group. Whether it is highprecision bearings for aviation and aerospace,
sensor wheel bearings in passenger cars or large
bearings with an outside diameter of more than
four meters for wind turbines, FAG products are
the first choice for all aviation and aerospace,
manufacturing and automotive customers. FAG’s
range of products and services is the perfect
complement for the INA brand.

Code of Conduct for
Responsible Company
Management
Schaeffler is continuing the social responsibility
of all of its companies and regards this as an
essential requirement for continued corporate
success. The Schaeffler Code of Conduct is
based on the principles of the “Global Compact”, “The Global Sullivan Principles of Corporate Social Responsibility” and the standards of
“Social Accountability International”. The basic
principles described here constitute a minimum
standard for us and do not affect countryspecific
additions that are based on the relevant cultural
circumstances.

Conflict of Interests, Gifts and Attempted Bribery
We will not accept gifts or payments or hold
(company) investments which could lead to a
conflict of interests. In particular, neither bribes
nor any other illegal payments may be offered,
made or accepted.
Suppliers
We encourage, where practicable, our suppliers
to introduce and implement similar principles of
social responsibility within their companies.
Responsibility
We believe each of our employees has an
individual responsibility to follow this Code of
Conduct and encourage coworkers to abide by it
as well. Management is responsible for enforcing principles that become part of our rules or
policies.

Over the past decade, Schaeffler has successively established an environmental management
system that we can be proud of. All manufacturing sites have been certified to ISO 14001
and also to the more stringent European
Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
The Group’s non-European locations, e.g. in the
United States, Brazil, China, India and Korea,
have also successfully passed inspection based
on EMAS.
The certificates and environmental statements as
well as the Schaeffler environmental policy are
available on the Internet.
With the validation and certification of its
manufacturing sites, Schaeffler has been
leading the way in environmental protection.
The company has received several awards for
this commitment, including the Bavarian Environmental Medal and has been awarded Ford
Motor Company’s “Recognition of Achievement,
Environmental Leadership“ award three times.
Schaeffler’s commitment to environmental
protection was recognized on a global scale
when the company was presented with the
EMAS Award in 2005.
All of Schaeffler’s manufacturing sites have an
environmental protection coordinator. At each
location, the plant manager is responsible for
ensuring environmental compliance.
The “Competence Center for Safety and
Environmental Protection” and its competence
groups both plan and coordinate the strategic
orientation of the management system and provide support on environmental protection issues
to all Schaeffler Group locations worldwide.

Occupational safety and environmental protection are part of our management principles. We
create and maintain a safe working environment
that promotes the health and performance of
our employees and embrace environmental
responsibility to secure our company’s continued
existence and success.
The following principles apply to all Group locations worldwide. We are firmly committed to our
employees, to society and to future generations.
Efficient Occupational Safety and
Environmental Management
We embrace and continuously improve our occupational safety and environmental protection
system. We develop forward-looking strategies
and work with our business partners to implement these strategies. We perform regular
checks to determine how well our specifications
have been implemented and how successful our
management system is in all divisions.
A Safe and Employee-Friendly Workplace
We believe that all work-related injuries and
illnesses can be prevented. Highly motivated
employees and executives support our efforts
to provide a zero-accident workplace. We give
equal consideration to the protection of our
employees and contractors. That is why we
base the design of new workstations and work
processes on the latest scientific findings and
place great importance on the ergonomic design
of workstations.
Reliable Actions
We are committed to complying with all legis­
lation and specifications regarding occupational
safety and environmental protection.
We act responsibly in accordance with our own
regulations, which often go above and beyond
applicable laws. We plan, purchase, operate

Minimal Environmental Impact and
Environmentally Friendly Products
We take every effort to prevent environmental
impacts in all of our activities. This includes our
efforts to generate as little waste, wastewater,
noise and other emissions as possible. We use
resources and energy sparingly. We produce
environmentally friendly products by taking into
consideration a product’s entire lifecycle.
Responsible Employees
We regularly provide information and training to
our employees and business partners to ensure
they have the skills and expertise necessary to
carry out their work safely and to minimize environmental impacts in all company departments.
Preventive Measures
We take comprehensive measures to protect
our employees from health hazards and prevent
damage to the environment. Comprehensive and
effective emergency measures are in place at all
locations to ensure that our employees and visitors receive adequate care in the event of injury.
Open Communication
We conduct an intensive and trusted dialog with
interested parties. We provide information about
our occupational safety and environmental protection measures as well as the impact each of
our locations has on the environment.

Environmental Communication
The company’s intranet provides comprehensive
information: contact persons, databases, a waste
guide and much more. This information is made
available to all employees worldwide.
Company newsletters and notices are also used
to inform employees.
Regular Conferences
Environmental protection conferences held every
year allow participants to exchange information
and coordinate goals and actions. These conferences last several days and are attended by the
environmental protection coordinators from all
locations. Since environmental protection conferences were first introduced, cooperation and
coordination (e. g. for planning environmentally
relevant facilities) between all locations have
improved tremendously.
Global Regulations: Plant Standards
and Procedures
All actions relevant for the environment, such as
the approval of indirect materials or the specification of substances prohibited for use in products and packaging, are regulated globally by
special plant standards. In this way, Schaeffler
ensures that hazardous materials are used only
if there are no other alternatives.
The relevant departments are informed in a timely manner about the use of such materials, and
the required action is taken. This means that our
customers can be sure that products supplied by
Schaeffler contain only approved materials.
Safety rules and regulations also apply to contractors working in Schaeffler plants. A document
detailing all safety-related requirements has
been prepared for contractors working on the
plant premises. Contractors may not enter the
premises to perform their work unless they have
agreed in writing to comply with these requirements.
Regular Internal and External Audits
The level and progress of the company’s
environmental protection are also monitored by
regular internal audits at all manufacturing sites
as well as external audits by an independent
environmental verifier. These audits are planned
and coordinated at company headquarters and
carried out by the Schaeffler auditor pool.
All locations receive an audit report that
includes details of the current status and
recommendations for improvement.
Due dates and responsibilities are defined for
all relevant measures.

Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler receives 2011
EcoGlobe Person of the Year Award
The EcoGlobe Institute of the University of
Duisberg-Essen has awarded the 2011 EcoGlobe Person of the Year Award to Maria-Elisabeth
Schaeffler. The prize was awarded in honor of
Mrs. Schaeffler’s entrepreneurial achievements
and cultural and social commitment as a company partner, Vice Chairperson of the Schaeffler AG
Supervisory Board as well as a member of the
Supervisory Board at Continental AG.
Minister Norbert Röttgen, it is sponsored by
DEVK Versicherungen and ACV Automobil-Club
Verkehr in cooperation with the EcoGlobe Institute Duisburg-Essen and awarded by an independent blue-ribbon committee consisting of experts
from the fields of science, politics, business and
culture.
“Her keen sense of what is good for the
company’s employees and with great selfdiscipline, has allowed Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler to
build a business that has a highly remarkable
cor-porate culture and great economic success,“
the selection committee said in its statement.
The strategic principles to which Maria-Elisabeth
Schaeffler has oriented the company are characterized by high social, environmental and quality
standards. She has molded the group into a
modern, global and successful family-owned
business and given it a very sound strategic
direction.“
The committee especially stressed Schaeffler’s
activities in the fields of sustainability technologies, including the optimization of tracking systems for solar plants, the development of wave
energy converters for the utilization of ocean
power and drivetrain solutions for wind turbines
as well as the company’s dedication to electric
mobility and its contribution to reducing fuel
consumption in internal combustion engines.
At the awards ceremony Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler said, “It is my great pleasure to accept
the EcoGlobe Person of the Year Award. I regard
it not only as recognition of what I have done
in the 15 years since my husband passed away,
but also a confirmation and appreciation of
Schaeffler’s great technological achievements.”
The EcoGlobe, initiated in 2007, is the mobility industry’s first international environmental
award. Under the patronage of Environmental
Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer presents Maria-Elisabeth

Environmentally Friendly Products
Environmental pollution and the depletion of
resources can largely be attributed to the increased consumption of products. We must change
our way of thinking and insist on environmentally friendly products that use fewer resources
and minimize the strain on the environment.
Our “Integrated Product Policy (IPP)” addresses
this idea and aims to promote environmentally
friendly products.
Schaeffler – Always One Step Ahead
This isn’t a new idea for Schaeffler; we have
embraced this idea for many years. We accepted
the challenge to design environmentally friendly
products a long time ago. What is new is the
methods and tools used to achieve this goal.
How can we utilize previously untapped potential to improve the ecobalance of a product over
its entire lifecycle?
New Inroads
One way to make environmentally friendly products is to increase the efficiency of the material
and energy used, thus reducing environmental
impacts. We continuously evaluate and design
all material and energy flows, from the time they
enter the company to the time they leave as
products or residual materials.
Comprehensive Data Management
The company’s own environmental data coordinator handles inputs and outputs of material
and energy flows for all processes and products
at the respective plant. Material flow analyses
help further integrate environmental management into the company’s corporate units, such
as Logistics, Manufacturing and Financial Controlling. Existing processes and technologies are
ques-tioned thoroughly, and additional opportunities for improving processes are recognized
and put into practice.
Information Networks
Environmental impacts occur even when resources are extracted. To make products even more
environmentally friendly, Schaeffler stays in
close contact with its suppliers and customers.
A shared network is used to record and analyze environmental information along the entire
product chain. The insights gained allow new
solutions to be recognized for environmentally
friendly products and sustainable development.
Recycling
We try to ensure that manufactured components
are recycled at the end of a vehicle’s service life.
This is why LuK and INA are founding members
of the Partslife recycling system.

Social Responsibility
Social Responsibility
Environmental experts around the world agree
that the global environmental problems of our
time can only be solved if both economic and
social factors are considered. On the one hand,
only economically healthy companies pursue
long-term environmental protection activities,
and from a social standpoint people who are
starving or suffering social injustice cannot be
motivated to become active in protecting the
environment. The “principle of sus-tainable
development” is based on these assumptions.
In line with the company philosophy of accepting new challenges, Schaeffler has tackled the
concept of sustainability. Generally, sustainability
is not seen as an additional job to be completed but as an idea that offers new opportunities
since it links problems that were previously
treated separately. A view that integrates economic, ecological and social issues allows new
solutions to be found and thus contributes to
the sustainability of a company and of society
as a whole.
Although a lot has been said about sustainability and social responsibility, not a great deal
has been done. The examples below show that
things are different at Schaeffler:
Health as a Social Factor
Preventive occupational health and safety
represents an essential social component at
Schaeffler. We confront this responsibility by
implementing numerous measures and projects.

Introduction of Schaeffler
(Ningxia) Co., Ltd.
Schaeffler (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. is located in
Yinchuan which is the capital city of Ningxia Hui
Autonomous Region. The company is surrounded
by Kocel Casting Co. Ltd, Xibei Bearing Co. Ltd
and Wenchang South Road.
The plant implantation occupies total area of
137,280 m2, the present plant 1 produce railway
axle box bearing products with two buildings
gathers the support buildings makes 28,865 m2
of covered area. In June of 2012, the new plant 2
with 55,228 m2 covered area was partly finished.
The new plant 2 are producing deep groove ball
bearings, generation C and Tapered roller bearing.
Here about 554 high qualified employees in
Yinchuan plant, plant 1 manufacture metric and
inch dimension railway axle box bearings (TAROL
units) of supreme international quality. Its TAROL
bearings are mainly used in locomotives and
freight as well as passenger cars. Plant 2 manufacture deep groove ball bearing, generation C
bearing and tapered roller bearing. Deep groove
ball bearings and Gen. C bearing used in precision instruments, low noise motor, automobile,
motorcycle and general machinery industry, which
is the most widely used type bearing in machinery industry. Tapered roller bearing mainly used in
automotive industry.
The company invested heavily in introducing
imported technology, completed inspection instruments. It applied itself to manufacturing and
refurbishing railway journal bearings, especially
the high speed and heavy load bearing as well as
its components and accessories.
Moreover, the company also reconditions used
axle box bearing units, also from various other
manufacturers, and this task is carried out in a
workshop separated from the new bearing production area.
Our main customers for Tarol is the Chinese
Ministry of Railways (MOR), to which we provide
locomotive and wagon works in China. Our customer also includes international railway systems
manufacturers and railway operations worldwide.
The main customers for DGBB and Gen. C are
some domestic customers, applied for e-motor,
transmission and etc. The main customer for TRB
are Great Wall Motor Tianjing, Jatco (Guangzhou)
Auto-Transmission and etc.
Schaeffler (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. has received ISO
9001:2000 and TS 16949 quality certification
under the Schaeffler Group cooperator schedule (by TüV Süddeutschland). Further, Schaeffler
Ningxia has got the AAR (American Association of
Railroad) certification as well as approvals of several international railway systems manufacturers’
product and quality system. In 2014, Schaeffler
Ningxia received CRCC quality certification which
approved by MOR. Additionally, ISO 14001:2004
environment certification was received in 2006.
OHSAS 18001 certificate was received in 2009
also. In 2013, Schaeffler (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. has
received EMAS certificate as well.

Location
Changes at the Location
The forging process which was located 8 km away from the plant, moved to the Tarol extension
building in June 2014.
Built up of a new central hazardous waste storage warehouse according to Chinese regulations and
got final acceptance from local environmental protection bureau. The total size is 195 m2, the old one
is 64 m2, the future business development was also considered. The waste phosphating liquid, waste
emulsion, waste oil and waste barrels will be stored in this warehouse. The former hazardous waste
storage place will be demolitted at the end of 2015.
The former waste water monitoring system station was moved from south west corner of new plant
to the total outlet of both plants. There are 8 septic tanks in front of total outlet, the waste water
can get basic treatment before entering into city sewage system.
The evaporator system for waste water disposal will be located in central cooling room.
The system will start in the early of 2016. The equipment capacity is 5,000 Tons per year.
In March 2015, one experienced EHS engineer left the company. In May, a new engineer joined our
company working as EHS engineer.
In July 2015, an ergonomic coordinator was defined and got training in Yinchuan plant.
The ergonomic improvement leading by IE department was started.

Impacts
One of the primary goals of environmental protection is to prevent environmental impacts at their
source or to at least minimize unavoidable impacts. A large number of measures have been
implemented to achieve this goal.
Schaeffler (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. regularly evaluates its activities, which allows the identification of
its direct and indirect environmental aspects, with the respective associated impacts. We identify
the aspects mainly through experiences together with on-site inspection and “Risk Aspect Analysis
Checking list”, also the following information should be considered when we identify environmental
aspects:
1. importing / improvement / replacement of manufacturing processes or utilities;
2.importing / improvement / replacement of chemicals or environmental protection equipments;
3.serious environmental accidents.
4.other environmental impacts and so on.
On the maintenance of our Environmental Management System, Schaeffler (Ningxia) Co. Ltd.
promotes a minimum annual review of all environmental aspects.
This evaluation takes into account all environmental aspects most common for this type of activity,
such as:

Environmental Impacts
Emissions
Air pollutant emissions associated with boilers
can occur. Natural gas boilers are used and
these boilers are considered clean relative to
coal or oil fired boilers. To keep air fresh and
clean at the shop floor clean, dust/particle
originated from work station are taken out by
the exhaust hoods. Waste air from heat treatment process is burned by using natural gas
before emitting to the outside.
Noise
Our company is located in northwest of
China. The noise criterion is “Emission standard
for industrial enterprise noise at boundary GB
12348-2008”, the limit is 65 dB(A) in a daytime
and 55 dB(A) at night time. We pay more
attention to noise pollution and monitor noise
periodically, the result of management is good
and there is no external complaint until now.
Saving Water
Water is supplied by city municipality. A save
water campaign is spreading in whole China now
due to water shortage. At our locations, water is
being reused and recycled maximally from production line. Schaeffler Ningxia already invested
an evaporator equipment in 2015 for waste water
disposal, after evaporation, some water can be
reused.
We try to minimize the consumption of water expense. Centrally located emulsion facilities allow
a very long service life for cooling lubricants, thus
preventing unnecessary water consumption. All of
these efforts have resulted in a significant reduction in fresh water consumption in manufacturing.
Waste water management
Waste water consist of life using water and
industrial water, and cleaning the surface of bearing and grinding in production produce waste
water. Hazardous substances are monitored by
a waste water online monitoring system. If the
waste water do not meet the waste release standard, we will get the information immediately.
To reduce environmental risks and save resources,
many waste treatment and filter machines are
put into use in order to produce a reusable
water and liquid in production, central facilities
have been installed for large-scale consumption
of substance such as grinding oil. A positive
side effect is the quantity of potential water
pollutants requiring transportation have been
decreased considerably.
Waste management
Waste generated at our sites is collected separately. Wastes including waste scraps, waste packing
material, waste liquid and waste sludge. Waste
scraps are generated from production process.
Waste scraps and waste packing material can be
recycled and can be sold to a recycling company.
Waste segregation has revealed a great deal of
potential prevention. Waste liquid is classified as
hazardous waste according to “National Catalog
of Hazardous Waste”. Waste oil, waste water
with oil, waste phosphating liquid and waste
emulsion are classified as hazardous waste.
Therefore, those wastes are disposed by local
certified company on a regular basis. Meanwhile this certified company is regularly double
checked by our Environment Health and Safety
(EHS) Department and central facility department
to make sure there is no indirect impact to the
environment.
Contracts are signed with the waste disposal
department on a regular basis to discuss current
issues and determine required actions.
Energy saving
Energy saving is one of our top priorities. Our
company always dedicates to save energy and
reduce emission for protecting our earth. For
better energy saving, one energy coordinator
was nominated and energy organization in the
whole plant was created, we educated our employees to improve awareness on how to save
water, electricity and heat. But on the other side,
we asked our employees to control on-site energy consumption. Many posters were introduced
everywhere of the plant.
Environmental Impacts
Soil
Leak proof floors have been installed in all
storage areas to prevent leaks and volatilization
of potential water and soil pollutants. Hazardous
substances are collected in a special container.
From 2014, turning chips and grinding sludge
were collected in a big container and transported out by certified supplier instead of storage
on the ground directly before.
Oil prevention equipments or anti-leakage
chemicals equipments were installed at most of
machines, such as oil / water separation equipment, well isolation, collection waste equipment
etc. Soil has been more secured and better
protected due to above preventive measures. So
far there is no soil / ground water contamination
accident occurred.
Work accident
Like we pursue our product quality “zero defect”, “zero-accident” is also one of our goals to
be achieved. Every accident will be recorded into
the database and analyzed by EHS and related
department. And responsible department will
update risk analysis accordingly. First aiders are
nominated from each different department and
well trained by company. The contact method
of the first aider could be easily found at shop
floor or information board.
Logistic and transportation
Transportation of products and goods be controlled strictly. The transportation is considered
during the packing process, to prevent pollution.
At the same time under the premise of considering the cost, energy saving transportation will
be used previously. Some parts of company are
using electrical forklifts instead of burning oil
forklift to make the transportation more environmental friendly.

Environmental Impacts
Significant Environmental
Aspects
The standards of identifying significant environmental aspects including “waste water, air pollutant
and noise”, “solid waste”, “use of energy”, “products” and “others” have been made as assessment standards according to different environmental aspects. These five standards present life cycle
assessment theory in order to assess significant aspects precisely and appropriately in Schaeffler
(Ningxia) Co. Ltd.
First, release of waste water, air pollutant and noise, under unusual normal operating/emergency
conditions, discharge of pollutants exceeding national standards is treated as significant environmental aspects. Second, the waste on the list of National Catalogue of Hazardous Waste (new) and in
large quantity is treated as significant environmental aspects. Other situations are treated as normal
environmental aspects.
Waste oil, waste emulsion, waste phosphatizing are three significant environmental aspects, they
occur in the production process, e.g. turning, grinding, maintenance, assembly, phosphatizing and so
on. In order to minimize the environmental aspects and control it effectively, we collect those wastes
with tanks according to the requirement of local government firstly, secondly we place those tanks
in a fixed and appointed storage house, finally our qualified suppliers will transport and disposal
those wastes periodically. Also we do surface hardening in storage area in advance to avoid penetrating pollution, at the same time emergency storage tunnel for leakage with tanks is done in order to
avoid polluting environment.
In 2014, our company invested a new hazardous waste storage warehouse and new waste storage
warehouse as central waste storage place. The total size is around 540 m2. The warehouse was strictly designed and constructed according to state law and also got final acceptance from local Environment Protection Bureau.

Products and packaging
A procedure P170070 (Release of chemical production and product materials) is used in all
sites of Schaeffler group BAFF form (Material,
Fluids and other Chemicals-Request/Approval
form) must be filled in and approved by headquarters for every new chemical production
material.
The main material in the products at our plant
is steel, which contains virtually no hazardous
substances after machining. Turning waste iron
scrap and processing waste was sold. The unused parts can easily be recycled and re-melted
into raw steel, thus ending the raw material cycle. All life cycle is more environmental friendly.
The customer generally decides what type of
packaging is to be used. If possible, reusable
packaging is used to reduce the environment
impact at our plant. Cardboard packaging and
wooden pallets are usually recycled.
Contractors are used for external transports.
Those transports are coordinated by the logistic
department. Sometimes we also use internal
vehicles to carry products. We always advise the
contractors take care of environmental protection.
Employee transport
At our site, most of the employees come to work
by bicycle. We have installed two bicycle parking
spaces outside of company gate respectively in
Plant 1 and Plant 2. Plant 2 built a new car parking area in 2013. And the parking area in both
Tarol and DGBB have extension plan in 2017. We
installed deceleration equipment around company gate to make sure of employees and other
people’s safety. Care about employees and social
aspects are our duty.
Environmental performance of
contractors, subcontractors and suppliers
Our supplier ratings always take environmental
certifications into consideration. We spread our
environmental information and issues to them
and ask them to follow our work safety and
environmental policy meanwhile to take relevant
environmental action. We provide special support to small and regional suppliers who wish to
implement an environmental management system. For example, waste management company
is regularly double checked by EHS Department
to make sure the company is in accordance with
the law when they are dealing with waste.

Health and Safety
Risk Management
Risk Management covers the topics fire protection and plant security as well as special
requirements regarding the usage/storage of
particular chemicals (methanol, acetone, toxic
substances, etc.) or out of special manufacturing
processes.
The guideline for Risk management was updated
by EHS Great China and released by COO China,
our plant updated risk analysis accordingly.
Plant security

business partners and visitors, etc.)
The security guards follow the security principles
to register the visitors and distribute visitor
cards. No visitor can walk in the plant without
staff’s accompany or take photos without the
permit. We plan to set up a CCTV central monitoring control system in 2016.
Fire protection

We have the compulsory fire brigade, all members from security guard and each department,
every year we will give fire fighting training and
arrange drilling for all compulsory fire brigade,
to ensure all employees can make quickly response when there is any fire or emergency.

Sufficient fire extinguisher and hydrant were
installed in our plant, and different fire extinguishers were provided according to the area
difference.
All contractors working in our company need to
sign the EHS agreement, they have to register
when they get into our plant and get visitor
cards from the security guard.
>>Checkup (transportation for
dangerous goods, etc.)
All vehicles which go outside of company must
be checked by security guards. All vehicles from
other company before they get into our plant
they must register at security guard room and
get car pass permit.
>>Emergency plans and management
>>Training and exercises
Except the compulsory fireman have the fire
fighting training and drilling, all the employees
also will attend the fire fighting training and
drilling.
Company made a emergency response plan respective for environment and safety, the emergency plans were also registered in local Environmental Protection Bureau and Safety Production
Bureau. Any urgent situation occur (like nature
disaster. nature gas and chemical leakage etc.),
general manager start the emergency response
plan and all departments follow it.
Health and Safety
Health and Safety
Schaeffler Ningxia pays much more attention
to the work safety and occupational health,
continuous improvement have been made on the
workplace in order to create a safe and comfortable working environment for employees.
Occupational safety
We commit ourselves to create a healthy and
safe workplace. Hazardous health impact test
was made every year, if any unusual health
problem occur, we will make an improvement on
that working position. All machines have working
safety instruction on it, the instruction will show
how to work in a safety way.
Ergonomic issues
During designing the layout and choosing the
machine, comfortable workplace, measurably
lighting etc. ergonomic impact was considered.
The equipment of DGBB and Gen. C grinding line
has been rearranged in 2014, and the equipment
direction has been changed make the loading
and unloading more conveniently and reduce the
labor intensity of the operator.
Tarol IR face grinding installed the automatic
loading and unloading system, which not only
reduces the injury rate, but also reduces the
labor intensity of the operator. Tarol Grinding line
was equipped with the forklift, the operators can
adjust the height which he needs and reduce the
intensity of the operator. We have one Ergonomic coordinator from IE department who is
responsible for ergonomic issues in our plant.
Hygiene
Our cleaning worker clean and disinfect the
public facilities everyday to prevent diseases
among staffs. During period of high incidence of
infectivity disease, we will organize employees
to take more exercise, as well as sterilize the public area, setting the propagandistic information
board to provide the relevant hygiene information to all employees. We will also invite external
professional person to give related training to
women and all employees.
Occupational health
The occupational health examinations were
made for all possible hazardous positions, and
all the reports were documented. Every two year,
we also organize one time health checking for
all employees in our company.

Water Consumption
The indicator shows that rapid growth of water
consumption from 2012 to 2013. Because all
kinds of facilities have been put into use in the
new plant, which made the total water consumption increased; and the production value
declined from 2012 to 2013. From 2013 to 2014,
We have updated the grass-irrigating pipeline in
the whole plant and reduced unnecessary loss
of water. We have installed technical watercooling medication device to optimize the water
consumption, which would process on technical
cooling water and reduce the emission of waste
water.
