been inviting German publishers to exhibit
a selection of their books abroad in order to
meet this great demand.
You’ll find all the information about the

to the end of the World – legendary discoverers
and their adventure stories
Günther Wessel
Since the beginning of time, humans have set out for
unknown shores – on their search for a better life,
riches, power, or in the name of science. Yet what was
life really like for men such as Leif Eriksson,
Ferdinand Magellan, or Heinrich Barth while they
were exploring the blank spots on the map?
Using lively scenarios from the discoverer’s perspective, Günther Wessel provides insight into decisive
turning points of these legendary expeditions.
He then explains each historical situation through
illustrations that do not require any previous knowledge. And so we see: At the end of each new
discovery, life was not the same as before – for those
who had stayed behind and for those far away from
home, for people who lived in ancient history and for
the people of today.

forever
Kai Lueftner
Illustrated by: Katja Gehrmann
Egon’s father will never come back. He is gone.
Forever. There are no pills to take against that
“forever.” It will never be the way it was, says his
mother. But life will go on. But why are people
suddenly behaving so strangely? There are the
whisperers, who always say, “The poor child,” and
then there are those who grin. And then there’s the
army of speechless ones. Most of them are like that.
It is difficult to talk about it, yet it is so simple:
Papa is never coming back.

Martin Baltscheit and Christine Schwarz
Rumors spread like wildfire. Stork, Duck, Parrot, and
other bipeds know something suspicious about the
ever-silent (and, by the way, sleeping) Flamingo – it
is probably even dangerous! But eventually even the
sleepiest flamingo will wake up and start to defend
itself.
Martin Baltscheit takes the effects of rumors,
suspicions, and prejudices to the extreme with
delightful slapstick comedy and fabulous support
from Christine Schwarz, who congenially illustrates
the victim’s metamorphosis.

the amazing and astonishing adventures of
maulina schmitt
Finn-Ole Heinrich
Illustrated by: Rán Flygenring
Maulina’s world has gone off the rails: she and her
mother have moved out of Moldavia, away from their
cosy house with the voracious floorboards, blue-white
sofas and greasy light switches. Maulina doesn’t understand why they had to move all the way over to the
other side of town to »Plasticville«, where everything
is totally sterile and there doesn’t seem to be a child
in sight. Was it the man who made that decision?
When Maulina is angry, nothing is left standing. And
right now she’s furious: at the man, at her school, at
the whole wide world. Her one desire is to move back
to Moldavia – and she already has a scheme in mind…
Whether Maulina’s scheme succeeds, whether she
settles down in »Plasticville« and what will happen
about her mother’s secret will be divulged in volume

master mario’s story –
the day the puppets took over
Rafik Schami
Illustrated by: A.M. Eisen
The audience loves it when a lazy, good-for-nothing
duke becomes a diligent, hard-working farmer and the
prince, instead of marrying the princess, weds a clever
girl from down-to-earth country stock. But the puppets are bored stiff with playing the same parts over
and over. They cut through their strings and assign
themselves their own roles: Queen Selfless becomes
the Sorceress GimmeGimme, court jester Po-face turns
into Sidesplit the Clown. The only one who wants to
hang on to his old identity is King Slugabed. At first
Mario is horrified, but then he realizes that his puppets’ desire for liberty cannot be restrained, and from
that point on they all perform together: the puppets in
their self-chosen roles – and Mario as a giant.

the grumpy bear
Annette Pehnt
Illustrated by: Jutta Bauer
The Grumpy Bear doesn’t like having visitors and he
doesn’t want to visit anyone either. But the friendly
creatures in his neighbourhood don’t let that put
them off. “So we’ll just keep on practicing this whole
visiting business,” says the Tingeli. The Grumpy
Bear’s surliness just washes off him like water off a
duck’s back. The Tingeli is always full of good ideas;
it takes charge and chivvies the rest of the animals
into line so they can all do things together. The end
result is a cheerful little community in which everyone thoroughly enjoys themselves: the Grey Heron
family with its overprotective mother, the King Penguin whose favourite treat is sardine jam, the Rabbit
family with their countless bubbly children – and
Marie, the little girl who is glad she can pour out her
woes to her new friends.

a midsummer night´s dream
Barbara Kindermann
Illustrated by: Almud Kunert
Barbara Kindermann enchants young readers with
her wonderful narration of one of Shakespeare’s
classics: It is a midsummer’s night, when four
love-sick people wander through a forest near Athens.
This wood is full of fairies, as it belongs to the powerful king of fairies, Oberon, who lives there with his
silver-shining queen, Titania. Oberon‘s favourite fairy
is named Puck – the spirit of mischief, who causes
confusion wherever he goes by swaying his magic
flower. During this enchanted midsummer’s night
many misunderstandings, bewitched situations, and
emotionally chaotic situations need to be conquered.
Will love be found in the end?

henriette is (not) a proper princess
Katja Alves
Illustrated by: Daniela Kunkel
Oh, to be princess at last! That is Henriette’s dearest
wish. Thanks to her vivid imagination, her wish
actually comes true: her parents suddenly turn into
servants and their home becomes a palace.
It’s just a pity that real princesses aren’t allowed
out to play.
In that case, Henriette would rather be a perfectly ordinary little girl after all—and in the wink of
an eye, her parents are perfectly ordinary parents
again, too.
„Henriette is (not) a Proper Princess“ takes a different approach to the ever-popular subject of
princesses and is beautifully illustrated with lots of
bright, colourful pictures.

mick and mack, here we are!
Lissy Kramer
Illustrated by: Dorothea Ackroyd
In no time at all, helpless little bundles of fur turn
into lively, inquisitive puppies who are always up to
something! Lexa’s five puppies are typical: after only
two weeks, they’re full of energy, turning the whole
house upside down. Luckily Lexa’s owner Lena has a
big garden where they can all run around and play to
their hearts’ content. A few days later, some important
visitors arrive: Lukas and Mia are allowed to choose a
puppy each. They have promised their parents that—of
course!—they will look after their dogs themselves.
And they have already chosen their names: Mick and
Mack are coming home with them!

mick and mack birthday detectives
Lissy Kramer
Illustrated by: Dorothea Ackroyd
“Why shouldn’t dogs have birthday parties too?“
thinks Mum. And for Mick and Mack’s second doggy
birthday, she organises a scavenger hunt through the
town. “And who are we going to invite?“ she asks Lukas and Mia. Well, that’s an easy question: Mick and
Mack’s four best doggy friends: Tipsi, Oscar, August
the Strong, and Darling, along with their owners.
There’s a big birthday cake for Mick and Mack, just
like at any birthday party. And then the fun with the
puzzles begins—in two teams. For the first riddle, they
charge into the butchers; then they rummage through
a second-hand shop and go for a splash in the big
fountain in front of the town hall. What a good thing
that all that shaggy fur can be dried quickly under the
hood driers at the hairdresser’s. The final riddle takes
the lively group to the market. But when Oscar discovers a mouse and knocks over the market stall filled
with oranges, they have to turn tail and run off in a
hurry. In the end, everyone gets some well-earned
sausages from the barbecue.

Why? Why? Why? pro Knowledge (Vol. 1):
the earth
Andrea Erne
Illustrated by: Jochen Windecker
Why are there earthquakes sometimes?
Why does it get dark in the evening? How does the
salt get into the ocean? These and other intriguing
natural phenomena pique people‘s curiosity again
and again. In this book, young readers can explore
oceans, mountains, deserts and rainforests—with big
„discovery pages“ that let you peer into the interior
of a volcano, for example—and learn how you can
make contributions toward protecting our planet
every day. Experiments such as constructing a minigreenhouse are invitations to take an active role.
With more than 19 million copies sold in German
and editions in 20 different languages, the series
Why? Why? Why? (WWW) represents the very best
in non-fiction for children. The series “Pro Knowledge“ is especially geared toward 8 to 12 year olds,
and conveys interesting information with the quality associated with WWW: the books are factually
correct, modern, include interactive elements and
thoughtful details, and are always at the level of the
target group.
The book’s foldout discovery pages provide a
visually impressive rendition of certain subjects over
a large area, its interviews feature experts giving
insight into their fields of expertise, and the accompanying comic is an additional fun way of learning
information.
The expanding lineup of “Pro Knowledge“ was
launched with 4 titles in Fall 2013 and 4 in Spring
2014, followed by 2 titles every six months.

Why? Why? Why? pro Knowledge: Cars
Sabine Lipan
Illustrated by: Tobias Pahlke
This book takes readers behind the scenes of auto
production, explains how vehicles work by means of
models, and delves into the historical development of
cars. Each question is answered in language children
can understand: how does an Otto engine, or gasoline engine, work? How do robots help build cars in
today‘s automobile industry? Who develops the design
for cars, and who decides which color cars will be
painted?
Large foldout pages make it possible to study the interior of an auto in great detail and understand exactly
which pieces belong where, or have a close look at
the assembly line of a car manufacturer. In expert
interviews, tire carvers and auto mechanics explain
the distinctive features of their professions. An entire
chapter is devoted to cars of the future, which researchers have been working on for years. Innovative, unbelievable and outlandish visions of personal vehicles
are included in the plans and let readers imagine how
we might move from place to place in the future. In
fascinating and easily replicated experiments, children can recreate the action of a piston in a cylinder,
among other things.

blow, bandage on, all better!
Bernd Penners
Illustrated by: Henning Löhlein
An innovative concept for a book with five realistic
bandages to make everything better and heal quickly!
Five animals have hurt themselves: the dog has injured its paw, the monkey has a bump on its head, the
bear was poked in the bottom, the sheep scraped its
belly and the elephant has a flat trunk. There‘s only
one thing to do: blow it a quick kiss, put a bandage on
it, and everything is all better.
There is a matching bandage for each animal in the
book. Large illustrations provide plenty of space for
the bandages. The animating rhymes help the “patients” feel better. The bandages can be removed and
cleaned with cold water over and over again, and stick
to all smooth surfaces.
