Welcome from Councillor Gordon Matheson
Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau
The 13th annual Glasgow International Comedy Festival – Europe's premier comedy
event – has grown from humble beginnings to become a much-loved showpiece at the
heart of the city’s cultural calendar; one which is widely deemed ‘unmissable’ by locals
and visitors alike.
It has brought some of the biggest – and funniest – performers in the world to Glasgow
over the years; reinforcing the city’s position on the global comedy circuit, and 2015 will
be no different with an eclectic line-up of top comedians from home and abroad.
The calibre of the Festival programme is a strong reflection of why Glasgow enjoys an enviable worldwide
reputation, both as a place to visit and as a city which can put on a show. We're well used to staging
major events with huge international appeal.
Glasgow was recently voted the friendliest city in the world by travel bible Lonely Planet – Glaswegians
are renowned for their hospitality and good humour, so it’s no surprise that we’re home to one of the best
comedy festivals in the world which perfectly encapsulates the city’s personality.
Whether you want to see home-grown comic talent or a plethora of leading international acts, and with
more than 400 shows across 46 venues over 23 laughter-filled days, I hope everyone who attends the
Glasgow International Comedy Festival has a fantastic time.
It’s true that PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW laugh: let's celebrate!

How Do You Write A Comedy?
A discussion around the comedy writing process. Where do
you start and what makes it funny? Whilst there is no magic
formula, we’ve invited comedy writers to share their insights
and maybe teach you a thing or two. From sketches to
sitcom, what makes the cut and what doesn’t? If you want
to write comedy or already do, come along and join the
discussion.

Commissioning: What Happens?
There are several routes a script makes its way on to TV or
Radio and while no two projects are the same, there is a
process. We’ve invited industry professionals to answer your
questions and share their experience of working in comedy.
What’s next for comedy and what are commissioners looking
for? Bring questions and find out what you would like to know.
