Spring 2014
Out and Not So About in Region 11
Well I did get to help celebrate the Christmas
Season with the Blue Ridge Doll Club at their
annual holiday party in December as their
invited guest, and I saw many of you at the
Gaithersburg Doll Show the first weekend in
December. Then I was the invited guest of the
Lady Baltimore Doll Study Club’s annual
Christmas festivities later in December. In
January, The Chesapeake Doll Club of
Maryland hosted their annual Martin Luther
King, Jr. doll event with 86 members present
from 12 Region 11 clubs where we learned the
history of Middy blouses from Vicky
Christopherson. One day later, the storms hit,
and the rest of my events were cancelled.
Hopefully, spring is on the way, and we can
again get out and about in our region.
On February 10th the world
news informed us that
Shirley Temple Black had
passed away. Needless to say,
that news hit doll collectors,
especially the ones of my
era. I thought I would get
my own Shirley Temple out
and photograph her for you
to show she dwells in my
heart always. Given to me
on Christmas 1939 by my aunt, she looks a little
worse for wear but still retains that beautiful
smile. She sports her ribbon from 1983 when we
were asked to bring our beloved doll to a
regional in York, PA. I hope many of you also
have your own original Shirley.
Now its time to think spring!
Fondly, Faye

stringing and repair, displays of Region 11 doll artists, UFDC club
sales tables and UFDC information. On Saturday, March 1, Janet

Convention Helper Request
Helper Room Co-Chairs, Jerry and Jill Hanson, are
requesting helpers for the 2014 National Convention. The
donation form is in the recent President’s mailing and is also
on the UFDC Website. Minimum value must be $100.
Helpers being mailed should be sent with the completed
form to the Central Office by June 6th. Those wishing to
deliver their helper to convention should return the form
with a picture by June 6th. Thank you so much for being a
Helper Donor. If your club doesn’t have the means to
donate a $100 helper, maybe a sister club that you do
programs with or that you share field trips with, would like
to join together and send in a helper. Think about it.
Annual Club Activity Reports
Club Presidents, you were all sent the club activity report in
the February mailing, so please make sure you return it to
the Central Office by April 1st. These reports are essential
to the IRS to maintain our not-for-profit status. Failure to do
so, could result in late membership cards being mailed to
your members.
Adopt-A-Doll Program
Have you or your club considered adopting a doll from our
museum? An excellent way to stay connected with the dolls
in our UFDC Museum. You get to choose what type of doll
you want to adopt and for $100 a year, that is your adopted
doll. Of course it stays in the museum but all visitors to the
museum can enjoy your own particular doll.
