Founded on June 14th 1979 microdia is one the oldest cross head and extrusion tooling manufacturer
in the world.
Starting as a modest extrusion tool manufacturer, the company has been constantly growing, creating
successive cross heads families: mf, 9000, avantis, eomex etc. under the guidance of Mr Patrick Zacchia
CEO of the company since its creation.
The proximity of advanced swiss cables manufacturers stimulated the development of complex extrusion heads and tooling making of microdia a leader in the field.

MICRODIA’S CROSS HEAD FAMILIES:
COHERENT THROUGHOUT MORE THAN THREE DECADES
The eighties: mf-10 & mf-20
mf-10 & mf-20 fixed center, single or single layer + skin/stripe, the first
microdia’s cross head created to extrude solid , foam skin telephone
wire and building wire made a successful on the market. Hundreds
of mf heads were sold all over the world.

The nineties: mf 9000

In response to the market demand, asking for a cross head easier to
handle with shorter tooling change time and higher precision microdia engineers designed the first mf 9000-10, immediately followed
by larger models covering an overall diameter range of 0.1 mm to
160 mm.

The 21st century: avantis
To cope with the challenges posed by the new technological compounds, it was necessary to have an even more versatile cross head
design whilst remaining fully compatible with the earlier cross head
type in terms of adaptability and tooling; avantis was the response.
Strongly built according to microdia tradition, avantis cross heads allow heavily loaded compounds and high viscosity polymers to be
efficiently extruded at reduced pressure and higher speed.

ecomex the green:
Derived from the avantis concept, ecomex has been engineered with
the aim of improving biopolymers extrusion conditions. Although it
looks like an avantis, the head block has been redesigned in order to
reduce drag and friction heating during compound transit through
the cross head, allowing higher speed without product alteration.

Construction documents as well as quality control report of each microdia cross head is archived
in our facilities and every single part reference is laser engraved making easy spare part further
ordering.
Existence of a large stock of spare parts makes it possible short delivery of standard wear parts;
manufacturing of parts sold long ago is always possible.
