Say Goodbye to 2014
Another year ends BUT now we can look forward to
next season. It’s less than 6 months away.
Listen, you’ve got Halloween, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, New Year’s celebrations and then it’s only
a month away from registration in February.
Valentine’s Day followed by Easter and we’re in April
and it all starts again. You won’t even know it
happened.

Last Newsletter of 2014
This will be the last newsletter for 2014.
January’s edition will be out just before Christmas
and will have details for the February signup,
procedures and dates.
Your emails will be monitored daily during the off
season as I know many of you will have questions
regarding next year’s signups etc.

February’s Elections
During the February signup we will hold the annual
election of vacant Board positions. If you think that
we are doing a lousy job or you feel that you have
something to offer the membership and our club,
please put your name forward and be a candidate on
the 2015 February ballot.

a confirmation email that your request has been
received.

Vendor vacancy for 2015
There is now a vacancy for a catering vendor starting
at the beginning of the 2015 season. Anyone wishing
to cater for the members during Mon-Fri bocce
evenings please forward their details to:[email protected] and we will give
you the information required.

MBF Court Maintenance
Contract for 2015
The MBF are inviting bids for the 2015 Court
Maintenance contract. This will entail
ongoing maintenance, upkeep and
grooming during the 2015 season which
runs from April until October and will also
include work done prior to the season
starting, to overcome the issues left from
the fall/winter weather.
USED Club Balls
As you will see from page 4, the Club is
purchasing new Perfetta Pro 107mm balls
for the 2015 season. You will also see that
we are offering members an opportunity to
purchase sets at the same price that the club
is being invoiced.
However, we also will have 15 sets of USED
balls which we are offering our members at
a cost of $40 a set of 8 + a pallino and
including a brand new Perfetta case.

We only have 15 sets.
Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
We are at present finalizing a “Scope of
Work” document which will outline all
requirements for the successful bidder/s.
These sets will not be available until
December but first come first served so get
your email and check in as soon as possible.
This document will be available in
November.

Fees for the 2015 season
The fees for 2015 Thursday Senior Bocce will
be $150 per team. The MBF decided to
increase the fee in line with other
federations and to also improve the end of
season awards.
Over the Fall/Winter recess we will also be
discussing the fees for the Volo and Open
leagues and details will be in the next
newsletter after a decision has been made.

Court 9
Infamous by some reports, lauded by others. Loved and hated because of the “gutter”.
Wears the balls faster than the other courts. Never follows the same line twice.
It seems that a Bay Area fault line runs straight down the middle.
So…………………….…it’s time to upgrade and put down a new surface.
This fall/winter we are taking offers to convert the court and welcome all bids. If you have the
expertise and are interested or know of someone who does, then please write to………………

We will answer all questions and meet with prospective contractors to discuss what is required.

This will be the only opportunity to purchase

order to get the discount.

These are the same balls that the club will be

The price, $115, is the same as the Club will be

the same set of balls as you will be playing with
all season, which you can use for practice &
recreation purposes.

Winners of the raffle
An impromptu raffle was held during the Final Four games with Gene Rittburg and Billy Kintana
selling tickets. A total of $300 was collected and all the proceeds were put back into the prizes
which resulted in 4 winners each receiving $75.
The happy winners can be seen below, one flaunting his ill-gotten gains.

2014 Contra Costa
County Championships
This year the event was being hosted
by The Antioch Bocce Federation at
their courts in Chichibu Park.
Games would be the first to 12 points
for all matches.
Proceedings started around 8.00am
with a breakfast spread for the
participating teams.
Court 4 was designated the court that
the final would be played on so no
games were played on it until we had
the final two teams decided.
Around 8.15 the teams were given
instruction as to how the
Championship would be structured
and play got underway by 8.30.
The top 2 teams from each of the
“Five Families”of Antioch, Pittsburg,
Concord, Crockett and Martinez were
drawn into 2 Round Robin divisions of
5 and the top 2 in each division were
then to progress to a “single
elimination” for the semi-final and
final.

Division 1 included “Sting” from
Concord, “S & N Floor Coverings”
from Martinez, “Squandered Talent”
from Pittsburg, “Johnny B’s” from
Antioch and “Be-occe Ballers” from
Crockett.
Division 2 was made up of “Bocce
Bunch” from Concord, “Mainly
Greeks” from Martinez, “Fab Four”
from Pittsburg, “La Famiglia” from
Antioch and “Bocce Questo” from
Crockett.
Sting vs Johnny B’s
Play got underway around 8.30am
with both the Martinez teams having
a bye for this first round.
The longest match was the first one
on court between “Sting” and
“Johnny B’s” which lasted for over an
hour.
Lunch was served at Noon and a very
tasty spread from “Sticky Chicken” of
ribs & chicken was welcomed by the
players.
The afternoon session started around
1.00pm with the final games of the
Round Robin.
In Division 1 “Squandered Talent”
went through undefeated with
“Sting” as runner up.
Division 2 saw “Bocce Bunch” &
“Mainly Greeks” both going through
with a 3-1 record with “Bocce Bunch”
taking first on “Head 2 Head” result.
This set up the first semi-finals match
with “Squandered Talent” vs “Mainly
Greeks”

“Mainly Greeks” won the first semi
over “Squandered Talent” by 12-7 and
“Sting” prevailed 12-4 over “Bocce
Bunch” setting up the final between
Concord’s “Sting” and Martinez’s
“Mainly Greeks”.
The final was a close fought battle
with “Sting” winning 12-9 over
“Mainly Greeks”.

2014 Contra Costa County Championships.
Also to “Mainly Greeks” who placed second representing Martinez Bocce
Federation, and joint third to “Bocce Bunch” from Concord and “Squandered
Talent” representing Pittsburg.
