Message from the Chair

We are quickly approaching the start of
the 2010 Annual
AACC & Clinical
Lab Expo (July 2529) at the Anaheim
Convention Center in
Anaheim, California.
The annual meeting is
an important venue
for networking and
learning details of the
latest scientific and
industry advances in laboratory medicine especially in molecular pathology.
This year’s meeting is located in an area with
which I have some familiarity. As an adolescent
growing up in Southern California I spent a number of weekends in Orange County and have fond
memories of enjoying various sites including Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the beach towns
of Laguna Beach and Newport Beach. The most
well known attraction is of course Disneyland
which will be within walking distance of the convention center and most hotels, and provides a
counterpoint to the more serious activities going
on at the annual meeting. There are also many
other attractions nearby, however some will require a car, but are well worth the effort.
Since I frequently return to the area I always try
to visit sites that have a special appeal to me including the Mission San Juan Capistrano, the
Queen Mary in Long Beach, and the always inspiring Huntington Gardens in San Marino, and
the Getty Museums which combine outdoor gardens and art. For your less cultured instincts you
can catch a baseball game at the Angel Stadium
of Anaheim or shop at the Anaheim GardenWalk,
which is also within walking distance, or Fashion
Island in Newport Beach. As you can see
there are many opportunities to take a break
from the meeting, but don’t forget to participate in several events developed by MPD
which are described below.

MPD 2010 Awards Finalists: The MPD Science and Education Committee (SEC), chaired
by Jerry Yeo, has reviewed the submitted abstracts for consideration, and has selected 2-3
finalists in each category to present their respective posters on Monday, July 26,
12.00pm- 1.30pm at the Hilton Anaheim Hotel (Manhattan Hall). Based on the authors’
presentations a winner in each category will
be chosen by the committee. The finalists in
each category are as listed below in the SEC
report.
More details of events of interest to MPD
members are also described elsewhere below.

MPD 2010 Award Finalists

The MPD Science and Education Committee (SEC) recently
reviewed and selected the following AACC 2010 abstract finalists in each category listed below. Each finalist listed below will
present their poster to the committee on Monday, July 26 at 12
noon at the venue listed below. The committee will then choose
a winner in each category. Failure to appear at this judging
will automatically disqualify the finalist from being considered for the award. The decision by the SEC is final and no
appeal will be entertained.
