Enrollment/Joining Fee
The $25 fee is paid upon membership sign-up and will only be charged once except in the case of a
lapse 3 month lapse in membership.
Cancellation Polic y
You may cancel your monthly membership at anytime by coming to the YMCA, completing
a cancellation form, and turning in your membership card(s). The cancellation form must be
completed prior to the first of the month, or you will be charged for that month. Memberships
are non-refundable.
Fitnes s R eimb ur s ements
YMCA members in eligible insurance plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Minnesota, Medica, Health Partners, Preferred One and UCare, can receive a $20 or $40
(couple) reimbursement per month by working out a set number of days each month. That’s more
money in your pocket for staying healthy!
*One adult (18+) covered by an eligible Medica plan may enroll in the program.

It is the responsibility of every individual or their parent or guardian to provide for their own accident
and health coverage while participating in YMCA activities. Neither accident nor health coverage
is provided for participants by the YMCA. The Alexandria Area YMCA is not responsible or liable for
accidents or injuries that occur on YMCA property.
AWAY—Always Welcome at YMC As
Members of the Alexandria Area YMCA are welcome at YMCA’s nationwide, as part
of the national A.W.A.Y. This offers members a chance to keep in touch with the YMCA and exercise
when they travel. Please contact local YMCA’s for any restrictions that may apply. Visiting YMCA
members may use the Alexandria Area YMCA 8 times per calendar year at no cost. After 8 visits, the
daily guest pass fee will be assessed.
Special Needs
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate in YMCA programs. If you require special
assistance, please contact the Welcome Center Desk. We have elevator access to all levels of the
building and aquatic wheelchairs. Private changing rooms and showers are available in the Family/
Special Needs Locker Room.

at your convenience!
2. In Person - As always, we are happy to take your registration at the front desk.

Registration must be completed before the applicable deadlines.

YMCA memberships may be purchased the day of registration to receive the
discounted rate.

Please have your YMCA membership cards available at registration.
•
Classes are subject to being combined or cancelled, based on enrollment.
Program Credit/R efund Polic y :
Membership fees are NOT REFUNDABLE. After a class begins, a program credit may be requested if
the participant is unable to attend due to medical reasons. Credit request forms are available at the
Welcome Center Desk.
M ember and Guest Code of Conduc t
The Alexandria Area YMCA is committed to providing a safe, healthy, welcoming atmosphere for
its members and guests, while respecting each individual’s privacy. We expect persons using the
YMCA to follow facility policies and use the YMCA Character Development values of Caring, Honesty,
Respect and Responsibility in their conduct and relationships with others.
Specifically, our YMCA member code of conduct prohibits:

The unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras or PDAs to take photographs or
videos of YMCA members and staff in locker rooms, pools or anywhere within the
YMCA.
•
Inappropriate attire: Appropriate attire is to be worn at all times in YMCA activities.
•
Vulgar language including swearing, shouting or name-calling.
•
Harassment or intimidation or threatening conduct.
•
Theft or behavior which results in destruction of property.
•
Any demonstration of sexual contact or activity.
•
Improper contact with minors.
•
Physical contact with another person in any angry or threatening way.
•
The use of chemicals, tobacco or alcohol on YMCA property or at YMCA activities.
•
Unauthorized solicitation.
•
Carrying concealed weapons or objects that may be used as a weapon.
Members and guests are encouraged to take personal responsibility and look out for
their own safety and the safety of the YMCA. If a member or guest observes a problem or
encounters a situation they are uncomfortable with, they are to report this to YMCA staff or the
Member Service Desk. Please seek assistance from YMCA staff if needed.

The YMCA reserves the right to deny or revoke membership to any individual who exhibits behaviors

Guidelines for Youth
Ages 6 and under

Parent/Guardian must be an arms length away from the child, or the child must be in
child watch services.

It is the responsibility of every individual or parent/guardian to assume responsibility for
their child’s actions. The YMCA reserves the right to terminate any youth recreation.
M embership Holds
Holds will be granted for medical reasons only. Your membership can be put on hold for a minimum
of one month and a maximum of three months. Holds must be requested prior to the absence,
and before the first of the month in order to stop the automatic withdrawal for the given month.
Membership holds must be made in writing at the Welcome Center or with the Membership Director.
Group Fitness Classes
Land and water fitness is open to all YMCA members, ages 18 and older.
M en’s and Women’s Fitness Locker R ooms
Children, 0-12,
are not allowed in the Women’s or Men’s Fitness Locker Room.
Youth, ages 7-16,
may use the gender appropriate Girl’s/Boy’s Fitness Locker Room
Pools
Lap/Open Lanes: Open to ages 13 and older.
Family swim: Age 6 and under must be directly supervised in the water, by a parent or guardian.
Open Swim: Children that cannot touch the bottom of the pool or cannot swim must be a
directly supervised in the water, by a responsible person, age 16 or older.
Guest Passes Guests are always welcome at the YMCA. All guests must register at the Front
Desk and present an ID. Youth guests under the age of 10 must be signed in and accompanied by an
adult for the duration of their visit. All guests must comply with the philosophy of the YMCA during
their visit. Each Young Adult, Adult, One-Adult Household and Two-Adult household memberships
receive four guest passes each year.

may be resubmitted two more times by and assessed a processing fee of $30 for insufficient funding.

Running Track
Members Ages 14+ are permitted full use of the track.
Members 10-13 years old must be accompanied side-by-side by an adult
YMCA member.
No one under the age of 10 is permitted on the track, except during
designated family times.
Wellness Center
Members ages 15+ are permitted full-use of the wellness center after completion of a
scheduled wellness orientation. Members ages 13-14 are permitted full use of the entire
Wellness Center after the active teen program series is completed. No one UNDER the
age of 13 is permitted in the Wellness Center.
Members ages 14+ may participate in specified fitness classes, or family fitness classes.
Members 17+ may participate in any fitness class (check schedule for details).

Zumba
Zumba® fuses hypnotic latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program
that will blow you away. Work out, get hooked and get into shape while you are having a fitnessparty! Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one
exhilarating hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage
and captivate.
D eep Water Ae robic s
Come prepared to get your heart pumping and your body moving. This class is designed for
people who feel comfortable in water over their head and using an aqua jogger (flotation belt). We
will concentrate on cardiovascular fitness and toning on both upper and lower body. **Note it is
important that participants know the basics of swimming.
Shallow Water Aerobics
Put on your swimsuit, jump into the water, and get ready for a great workout. This class is a non-stop
workout that promotes cardiovascular fitness while toning those problem areas and increasing
flexibility. **Note you do not need to know how to swim.
B oot Camp
A high intensity workout that could include anything from jumping rope to lifting weights, from
running on the track to animal-based crawling or jumping movements. Come challenge your
cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, agility, and balance. Boot Camp sounds hard-edged, but
it is really a lot of fun.
Step Aerobics
Come listen to great music, test your cardiovascular fitness , get ready to sweat all while using a step.
FIT (Func tional I nter val Training)
This total body functional strength training class, will challenge your muscular endurance, balance
and coordination by moving through all planes of motion with multi-joint exercises
Cycling
Whatever your exercise level is, you may participate in ANY cycling class on the schedule! Cycling is
a popular alternative for aerobic training because it is a non-impact and efficient, calorie-burning
workout.

Weight Los s B oot Ca mp
Whether you are looking to lose weight or just get in better shape, this is a class for you. You will meet
with your group 2 times a week to do cardio and weight training activities. Nutrition/ exercise goals
and a dose of motivation are also included. Participants will receive pre- and post-session fitness
assessments.

This FREE 6 week program, is designed as a fitness program for individuals who have never worked
out before, who need a reintroduction to fitness, or who are looking for some guidance with their
fitness routine. Our coaches will teach you and train you on a balanced strength and cardio fitness
program and teach you how to properly use the equipment in the Wellness Center. For more

A 3-week small group program geared for teens aged 13-15 years interested in setting up a detailed
fitness program using weight machines, light free weights, stability and medicine balls. Teens will
also cover a variety of the cardio machines. This is a great program whether you have been working

Attendance is mandatory for all Teens aged 13-15 wanting to use the wellness center! Participants
must attend six - nine classes and demonstrate maturity to use the wellness center. Participants will
learn how to use strength and cardio equipment correctly, proper form and safety precautions for
exercises. Upon completion of the class, teens will be permitted wellness center use, with, or without

Your child will have a blast while gaining social skills for the upcoming school years. During the gym
time, kids will experience various games that will build coordination, balance and flexibility. The

Did you know that strength training helps to maintain bone density? Here is a chance to work up a little
sweat and learn some new strength training exercise. A personal trainer will educate and lead participants

Classes are offered for participants as young as 6 months of age through adult. Both programs
progress dependent on the skills learned in previous levels. With each level, the amount of
endurance needed increases. Classes will be combined depending on enrollment. Private swim
lessons are also available for all ages.
How do I k now which level to register my child for?
Children, 3 to 36 months can participate in our Parent/Child Swim classes; 3-5 years start in our Pre-K
swimmer program; Children, 6 and older can start in our youth progressive lessons. Check out our
descriptions for the level that fits your child and the American Red Cross equivalencies with those
descriptions. Still have questions? Call Cahil, at 834-9622.
What do I br ing?
Your child should bring a swimsuit (remember, no street clothes allowed in the pool), a towel and
goggles (we have goggles to purchase at the Welcome Center). All medium and long hair should be
pulled back into a ponytail. A padlock is recommended for locker use.
Where do I go?
We have three locker rooms for your use: The family locker room has 7 individual rooms and must be
used when helping children 5 or older of the opposite gender. We also have a boys and girls locker
room for participants to use. Each locker room leads directly into the pool area. Please remember to
shower before and after using the pool to keep our facility and your skin clean!
What is the M a ke - Up Polic y?
Because of the progressive nature of the program and limited class size, no make-up classes are
available. Refunds or credits will not be given for missed classes. However, if lessons are cancelled
due to pool closure, a credit of $3 for members and $6 for non members will be given.

It is not uncommon for a child to stay in a particular level several times before successful completion.
Practicing skills during open swim and family swim times would help if your child is not progressing
as quickly as you would like. We also offer private and semi-private lessons for those who need extra
work on a couple skills or want the one on one attention.

For the purpose of progression, we encourage our students to attend all of the class sessions. We
understand that there are times when your child will need to miss, however, if they miss two or more
classes, they will not move onto the next level.

Swimmers should swim on the right side of their respective lane. Each turn should be approached from
the right to the left and finished with a straight-ahead push off. Please refer to the current pool schedule

YMC A Flag Football
It’s back! The Alexandria Area YMCA proudly presents our Flag Football Program for boys and
girls ages 4 thru grade 4. All participants meet for one hour sessions (Pre K/ ages 4-5 will meet for
45 minutes). The program will be held at Discovery Middle School; on the football fields behind
the tennis courts. We will stress the Fun in Fundamentals while learning the skills of football then
applying them in actual games. Volunteer coaches will help coach each team. A coaches meeting will
be held on Wednesday, August 18 from 5:00-6:00 PM at the YMCA office. All participants will receive a

YMCA’s Over 40 Men’s Basketball League may be just what you are looking for! - Games will be
played every Sunday and consist of 2-20 minute halves with a five minute halftime. Games will be

YMC A Childcare Center
The YMCA Childcare Center is a high-quality, values-oriented, state-licensed facility for children 6
weeks - first day of kindergarten. Open from 6 am - 6 pm, Monday - Friday, we can work around
your schedule. The staff are made up of baccalaureate degree teachers, CDA degree teachers and
experienced care-givers. The YMCA Childcare utilizes developmentally appropriate curricula to
develop children socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
The YMCA offers swimming pools, a gymnasium, running track, and a large outdoor play area. Please

Parents play an integral part in developing routines for their infants care at the Y. Feeding schedules,
napping, and playtime are discussed daily between parents and teachers. Individualized activities
are offered that meet each child’s developmental need and ability. Within the classroom, thematic
activities change weekly. Outside the classroom, daily outings may include buggy rides, free swim
bi-monthly (Toddlers Only), blanket time or playground time. Teachers communicate with infants
through speech, sign language and song. Parents are welcome to stop by anytime to take part in
caring for their child, or just to visit.
The toddler classroom is full of activities for children. Toddlers enjoy singing, enacting flannel board
stories, painting, gluing, and coloring which all help to develop fine and gross motor skills. Toddlers
work with concepts specific to early childhood such as shape, color, and developing vocabulary.
Children in this classroom will also enjoy using the YMCA outdoor playground, pool, and gym.

Child Watch
Take full advantage of your membership by using our low-cost Child Watch service! Attend a group
fitness class, swim, or take a walk with a friend while our experienced caregivers take care of your
children.
What You Need To Know

Your children can stay for up to 2 1/2 hours per day.
•
Children, 6 weeks through the age of 6, can attend Child Watch.
•
You need to stay in the facility, or be using the Central Lakes Trail walking path.

You and your children both need to be members (guests can purchase guest passes & punch
cards)

We operate on a first-come, first-serve basis (no reservations).
•
YMCA members with a one-adult and two-adult household membership will receive FREE child
watch services for their immediate family members.

YMCA members with an adult or young adult membership, are required to pay the hourly rate
for child watch by purchasing a punch card.

Child Watch may utilize the gymnasium, playground, outdoor field space and classrooms based

Discipline
Discipline in Child Watch is based on an understanding of the individual child’s needs and stage of

distraction and diversion, and if necessary, supervised removal from the group for short periods of
time. Physical punishment is never administered.

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. Attendees will enjoy
great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is
seen as too simple or too hostile…questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from?
Where am I going? Alpha is especially for you if you’re interested in exploring Christianity for the first time, or
wanting to brush up on the basics. If you have questions, please contact Sue, (320) 759 - 1800, or see www.
alphausa.org. Each evening includes dinner, presentation, dessert, and small group time for discussion.

Please join us in the social lounge each Saturday morning this fall for a discussion on current events or life
issues from a biblical perspective.

Chr istmas Tree Lighting & Chr istmas Caroling
Bring your family for the first annual Christmas tree lighting and Caroling. The Y will string lights on
its outdoor Christmas tree and we want you there when we turn the lights on. We will then sing some
Christmas carols around the tree. Hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies will then be served inside the building.
This event will also launch our Christmas Giving Tree program.

The annual FCA Christmas Breakfast is a time to gather together and share breakfast, prayer, songs, and hear
an Inspirational Christmas message. An uplifting 1-hour program that will be a welcome reminder during

Please join us for a night of Christian fellowship, great food and great fun. Bring the whole family to enjoy

families of all faith!

Our annual Dining Around Douglas is just around the corner! Be on the lookout for a date! Join us for

Through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, people just like you come together to make their community
stronger. Donations to the Strong Kids Campaign allow the YMCA to provide membership and program
assistance to kids and families who might not otherwise be able to afford YMCA services. With a commitment
to making programs and services available to everyone, the YMCA will provide scholarships and program
subsidies to families in need.

donations are still coming in! Supporting the Strong Kids Campaign will allow us to offer membership &
program assistance to hundreds of children and families each year. Ask the Welcome Center Staff how you

As of April 28, the “Complete the Dream” Capital Campaign has surpassed the $8,526,000 mark and leaders
are confident they will raise the remaining $359,000 necessary to reach the campaign goal of $8,885,000.
To date, 838 individuals, businesses and foundations have supported the YMCA with pledged gifts to the
campaign. The Alexandria Area YMCA welcomes community members to consider a gift to the campaign to
raise the remaining funds. All gifts are appreciated, however, gifts of $1000 or greater will earn a spot on the
Alexandria Area YMCA Donor Wall. Gifts can be pledged over a 5-year period or as one-time gifts.
The Alexandria Area YMCA broke ground on the proposed 56,000 square foot program center on April
14, 2009 and is eagerly anticipating opening the doors to the Maynard “Bud”, Sylvia, Diana, Neil and Bruce
Peterson Program Center on June 1, 2010.
