I hope you're all having a great summer training. There's
some news items I'd like to share with you all.
KG president know if you have something for the agenda
for this year.
New IPO rules. We've been working with Germany to get
a good English translation of the rules. It's been a long
process because the document has gone back and forth
between LV American and Germany several times. We
should be able to have copies available at the Nationals,
if not sooner.
If you haven't heard by now, that general membership
meeting will be Friday afternoon at the stadium, from 4 to
7. We hope that by getting business out of the way on
Friday, people will be free to enjoy the event more, and
be able to socialize as they wish on Saturday evening. I
hope to see many of you there.

Many of you may remember that when the General
Membership meeting in Eugene ended, we had not
finished the agenda. The Board promised to call a
telephone meeting. It's long overdue, but we are finally
going to have it on September 11. The time and call-in
information will be posted on www.DVG-America.com.
We are going to address only the issues that were on the
agenda in Eugene but that didn't get addressed in the
meeting. Anything new should be held for the upcoming
general membership meeting at the Nationals. Let your

DVG Judges Apprenticeship Program
● To apply to the DVG Judge’s program you must:

Be a minimum of 25 years old and maximum of 55 years old
Be a DVG member for a minimum of 5 years
Have at minimum, 1 year as training director (club or LV)
Have been a trial chairperson for a few trials
Only be a judge in one organization
Have titled two dogs from IPO 1 to IPO 3 or (VPG) and one of these dogs (or another dog)
must have a BH and an FH
● Have been a helper (in some cases theoretical knowledge is enough)
The applicant can apply anytime during the year. (All documentation for the new LRA's have to be in the
DVG office prior to September 15th for the process to begin)
● APPLICATION PAPERS
● Submit 2 resumes, one from normal life and a resume about dog sport; (two separate
resumes)
● Make the following DECLARATIONS
● To pay for the education (the LRA gets no expenses paid)
● That the LRA has no claim for damages against DVG for bodily injury or loss of income that
results from judges training or from training or judging assignments
● To be only a DVG judge after certification
● Give consent to the publication of his/her personal data concerning dog sport
● Get a letter from a mentor judge that they will support you and give you further training
throughout the program when you become an apprentice judge
● Get a letter from your club president stating that they support you
● Get a letter from your KG President stating that they support you
● Get a letter from your LV President stating that they support you
● Provide two passport photos
The candidate will then put everything together and give it to the club President. All of the letters and
resumes get put in one package and will then get sent to the LRO (Head Judge of the LV the person belongs
to)
The package then gets sent to Germany to the LRO, and once the board approves the new apprentice judge
it will get published in LV America’s magazine and also in DVG Germany’s magazine.
If anyone has any concerns about the apprentice judge after their information has been published, they
must put it in writing, sign it and send it to the LRO of the LV where the candidate belongs.
The apprentice time starts with an introduction (normally from the DVG-LRO) and also a written test.

What is a Dog Sport Festival? DSF is IWDA’s summer IPO trial, in addition to two other dog
sports. However, this year, the day after, we decided to have a huge Training Day BBQ.
Talk about an amazing time – we had a blast!
Rewinding back to the trial, we were set to have an 18 dog trial; all the entries had
been submitted and paid. We were looking forward to such a super turn out, the trial was
quickly becoming the size of a regional championship! Teams entered from Arkansas,
Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana and even Florida. Then
disaster struck. One dog broke a canine the day before the trial at practice and would
need immediate surgery, another refused to track days leading up to the trial, one was
sold, two
were pulled

finish the trial and were

points. Another very dear
club member, Donna Dunn and Xeppo, finished the track with 78 points. Though Xeppo
has seen younger years, I really admire Donna’s courage to get out on the field and try for
another IPO 3 with very little training leading up to the trial. But even more important
than the trialing, is Donna and John Dunn’s love and commitment and unselfishness.
They drive every year to our club’s trial and do so much for us. If there is ever anything
that needs to be done, just let Big Daddy (John) know and it is done. Interstate Working

On to the
BBQ…….. We invited Attis and helper Jason Murphy with Judge Jacki Purdham

Festival BBQ to boost
positive interaction
with clubs within the
region. The BBQ was
attended by TriState, Northern IL,
Meridian, Arkansas,
and of course IWDA!
We started the day
with tracking.
Thinking there would
only be 5 or 6 people
willing to track, I
agreed to take every
one tracking in the
dirt fields as some
were preparing for
DVG Nationals. Little did I know there would be over 20 dogs at tracking! Simply
beautiful as we started at one end and worked our way down the field. We still had room
to track 30 more if needed.
After tracking we arrived

to the field to a host of
friends and family ready
to train. Some had
already taken the field
for obedience. Big Daddy
fired up the grill and the
BBQ began. With so
much love for the sport,
at one moment, I had to
sit back and quietly
watch, amazed at what
was taking place. Even
people who had never
spoken before were
training together and
having fun. Best of all
was watching Sarah’s
little Terv puppy’s long
bite, she is a demon.
While I don’t know the
total number of dogs who
attended, Jason and I worked everyone, some even twice. We celebrated IPO in great

fashion; good training, great people and
more food than we could all eat. Dog Sport
Festival this year was less about the trial and
more about bringing everyone together to
share in the sport we so love. Leave the
politics and hang-ups or dislikes for anyone
at the gate and enter into the “fest”. It
doesn’t matter who you train with, what
you’ve won, or how many Nationals you’ve
been in or even if you are brand new to dog
sport, what matters most is what you share
from your heart. There was a lot of sharing,
caring, applause and encouragement. Try a
Training Day BBQ in your region and see if

RSV2000
SCHAEFERHUNDVEREIN RSV2000
- a club with a clear strategy and determined objectives
RSV2000 was founded in June 2007, since 2009 the club is a member of the German kennel club VDH, this
means they are members of FCI: RSV2000 judges are allowed to judge in all FCI countries and RSV2000
pedigrees are accepted in all FCI and cooperating countries, like in the USA by AKC.
The founding members, first of all Dr. Helmut Raiser, today’s RSV2000 office manager Ursula Zabel and
RSV2000 chairman Eugen Ecker, had for decades tried to improve the training, breeding and health of the
German Shepherd within the established SV. They never really succeeded politically.
In their newly founded club they summarize their objectives in two sentences:

We want a trainable, vital German Shepherd
We want a Schutzhund sport that is effective, respects the ethological items and is fun for dog and
handler
Open for every utility dog enthusiast
Global thinking is well known in dog sport and breeding. RSV2000 is open, as it is shown in seminars all over
the world, to each and everyone who is interested in training a utility dog. As time is precious and the number
of people interested very large, members and sponsors of course are preferred. To become a member or
sponsor is possible for everybody and very easy by Internet. RSV2000 maintains an Internet site providing all
information necessary in German and English, Spanish is under construction.
Wide range of seminars
Dr. Raiser has the ability to break down complicated topics to easy terms: In utility dogs breeding follows a
causal chain: training - sighting - selection - breeding. The first step, training, is crucial for breeding but also
offers the possibility to be active with a German Shepherd, train together with friends and compete in trials.
For this basic need RSV2000 offers seminars for a very affordable price in tracking, obedience, protection and
workshops for helpers. Seminars are mostly offered in Germany, but RSV2000 has a number of trainers, most
of them speaking English, who can go to different countries.
Sightings are an essential in RSV2000 breeding
In breeding two ideas need to be considered:
· To pass a Schutzhund 1 trial (IPO1) has become a lot more difficult over the past years.
· Genetic experts consider it as a fact that the biggest challenge for pure bred dogs is and will be to
tackle the disadvantages of inbreeding and loss of diversity in the gene pool.

In RSV2000 starting to breed, meaning to breed a dog once, is relatively easy, using it more – more work is required: According
to FCI rules the dog needs a show result (minimum good) and findings for hip- and elbow dysplasia (both C or better). RSV2000
additionally asks for an DNA profile at it’s institute in Germany and a presentation of the dog in a Talentsichtung (talent
sighting).
The young German Shepherd (12 months and older) is shown in a standardized training session and it’s behavior is described by
trained experts using a matrix. Afterwards the outer appearance is described in a matrix as well, the dog is weighed and
measured, pictures are taken and a detailed questionnaire is answered on health issues.
Knowledge needs to be available for every member
All data collected at sightings and later at Koerungen, another screening for breeding that asks for more performance, is
collected in an Internet database. All data is available for each member and sponsor.
RSV2000 has invested a lot of money to give all members and sponsors access to all data. Transparency in data is an essential
for breeding that focuses on the genotype. So every member has access to a
· data base with general data of so far about 47.000 German Shepherds
· sighting details of every German Shepherd that so far have been presented, appr. 800 by today
· detailed data of all dogs who passed a Koerung in RSV2000
· Pictures of the sighted dogs
· Detailed finding results of hips and elbows including the x-rays
· Pedigrees of lots of German Shepherds
· Possibility to simulate a pedigree for a planned litter
· and many more functions
Budget focuses on German Shepherd first
The Internet site also has the objective to handle most of
administration online. This will on a long term save
money. Cost for staff is very high in Germany. RSV2000
answers any questions fast, if they come in by mail. All
information is available on their website: www.rsv2000.de
So even in the office RSV2000 follows simple priorities
when it comes to decisions:
1. Is it good for the German Shepherd?
2. Is it good for the RSV2000 members?
3. Is it good for the club?
German Shepherd and handlers are in the center of
activities
Every year in fall, this year October 3 to 5 RSV2000
celebrates dog sport enthusiasts at its international
championship Internationale Siegerprüfung ISP RSV2000.
Everybody with a German Shepherd titled in SchH/IPO3

All participants and visitors describe this event as a
highlight in sports.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I
beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try
to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must
exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years
--canine attendance is not required.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog’s butt. I cannot stress this
enough!

The Arkansas Schutzhund Club is proud to welcome the
2014 LV/DVG America Championship back to the great
state of Arkansas.
The diamond in the Championship logo is significant in
several ways to our club. Diamonds naturally signify
elegance and beauty but also precision is needed when
cutting them to bring out their true brilliance. The canine
athletes demonstrate elegance and precision form years of
hard work. Arkansas is the only state that has a diamond
producing mine and the only mine in the world that an
individual can keep what they find. The greater significance,
to all of us, would be the diamond that was lost last year
with the passing of Sandi Purdy. This championship event
will be dedicated to her memory.
You can expect a handler friendly event. The Arkansas
Schutzhund Club's training grounds are nestled in the
beauty of The Natural State. Our training grounds include:
club house, porch areas, concession stand, and large
shade trees with lawn furniture on 70 acres. The training
field will be set up for obedience and protection practice.
The area is plentiful in tilled dirt and lush cover fields, so
tracking will be favorable.

and Carl, included again this year, Wayne
Kemper and Luis Rodriguez and first time
camper Rory Kennedy. They arrived well
suited and ready for protection work.
Certified as a DVG Helper by the age of
eighteen, Kemper’s experience quickly
exploded to include an array of Regional and
National Championships. Kemper also serves
as DVG OfV (National Training Director.)
As a member of the South Florida Schutzhund
Club, Rodriguez has participated in numerous
club trials; later on advancing into GSDCAWDA Nationals and SEKG Regional
Championships.

On September 13-14, Ann Dolan traveled to Canada to judge the 13 entries who gathered for WRAC’s annual
Fall trial. Saturday morning started with light rain, but it made the sod beautiful for tracking. The IPO 2 competitors
were Sue Nesbit with her GSD Onzy, Heather Dickinson with her GSD Vice and Lynn Anderson with her Doberman
Cash. Sue and Onzy started off with a very nice 98 point track followed by Heather and Vice with a confident 95
point track. Lynn and Cash struggled but still managed to pass with a 70. The IPO 3 competitors were Cynthia Wiley
with her two Malinois, Iuma and Cam, and me (Angie Patchen) with Libby. Cynthia and Iuma finished the first IPO 3
track with a score of 97. After a pedestrian walking his dog nearly crossed the last 2 tracks, Libby went out and
earned 100 points! On the third track, Cynthia and Cam also earned 100 points. It was a great start to the day!
After a breakfast break and a small weather delay, we hit the field for obedience. Heather and Vice and Sue and Onzy
both showed off some beautiful heeling, earning 86 and 92, respectively. Next up were Sue Minard and her Malinois
Carmen, working for their OB 2, and Cynthia with Iuma, earning 81 and 89. Cynthia with Cam and Libby and I were
up next. Both dogs showed their experience on the field and just like in tracking our dogs again earned the same
score, 94 points.
The rain held off heading into the protection phase. Heather and Vice earned an 87, finishing with a total 267, a
new IPO 2 title and qualifying for the 2014 DVG Nationals! Sue and Onzy earned a 94 in protection, for a final 284
and a new IPO 2 title! Sue Minard and Carmen earned an 86, giving them their PR 2 title. Cynthia and Iuma gave a
strong performance, earning a 93 for a total 279 and a new IPO 3 title - a first for Cynthia! This was Libby’s 5th and
final IPO 3 title and my little girl finished strong with a 97, for a total of 291. Cam gave a very powerful performance
that earned him a 95, for a total of 289 and their goal of qualifying for DVG Nationals was complete! In the end, Libby
ended up High In Trial – what a way to retire!
Sunday’s weather was a much more pleasant, which was a big relief for our 6 BH handlers and their dogs. Anne

Bolivia started off the day with a few bumps, but overall
very nice performances for these young girls. Lisa Little
and GSD Dot (littermate to Prada) and Patrice Clarkson
and rescue Rottweiler Thor were the second pair to take
the field, again offering two respectable performances.
The last pair of the day was our version of Yin and Yang –
Gino Stoccero with his ABD Keno and Hilary Watson with
her Groenendael Bouncer. All of the BH dogs worked
hard for their handlers, but we have to give special credit
to Bouncer, Hilary’s first IPO dog, for his nearly flawless
performance, what a great team! Our BH teams showed
the true variety of our DVG club with 5 different breeds
out of the 6 entries!!
All the competitors send out special thanks to Simone
Lehnhardt for locating great tracking fields, Steve Belowos
and Joanne Fleming for laying tracks in the rain, and of
course Steve Clark for his always safe and consistent
helper work. WRAC members also thank Joanne for the
countless hours of coaching she puts in throughout the
year.
A personal note: The last time I trialed Libby was at
the DVG Nationals in Atlanta in 2012. Last year, we
took some time off while I completed graduate
school and Libby had a litter of puppies. This spring,
Libby underwent 3 surgeries in 5 months, but she
bounced right back. Libby has always been a reliable
teammate who loves to work, so at 8 years old, I
decided to make the 2014 WRAC club trial her
retirement party. This is only my second IPO dog and
I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to
show her from BH to multiple IPO 3 titles, including
2 Nationals. This trial was both relaxing and stressful
at the same time – there should be no pressure, but
my hope was that she would show better than
ever… and she did. Libby met or exceeded her best
scores she’d ever earned in each phase! I’m so
pleased we had the opportunity to perform together
on the schutzhund field one more time and I know
she’s going to enjoy her retirement.
