Tumbling Stars
Fabric for Tumbling Stars:
16 fat eights (9” x 22”) pieces for the outside of the blocks
32 fat eights (9” x 22”) for the star centers
1 yard light tan background
1 yard dark tan background
1 ¼ yard red border (cut parallel to selvage)
1 ¼ yard dark brown for border (cut parallel to selvage)
1 ¼ yard backing

Cutting the fabrics:
For each of 16 blocks:
Cut 8 different A diamonds for the center
Assemble the blocks:
1. Layout the inner 8 - A diamonds with 8 light C
squares.
Cut 8 - A diamonds of the same color (I used 8
different prints.)
Cut 8 light C squares
For the background:
Cut 9 - F squares
Cut 12 - G triangles
Cut 4 - H corner triangles
From the red border fabric:
Cut 4 - 1 1/2” strips
From the brown border fabric:
2. Sew the pieces together.
Cut 4 - 4” borders
3. Layout 8 diamonds around the center and sew
together. Make 16 blocks total.
Assemble the quilt top:
1. Layout the blocks with the F - squares, G triangles, and 4 corner H triangles.
2. Sew the blocks together in a row. Sew in the F squares. Sew the G triangles around the outside. Sew on
the corner H triangles.
Finishing:
1. Press the top. Sew the red border to the brown border. Sew onto the quilt and miter the corners.
2. Layer and baste. Quilt and bind.
