Georgette Taylor Fry Dew,
84, of Roanoke, went to be
with the Lord on Thursday,
August 14, 2014.
She was predeceased by
her husband, Roderick "Corky"
Dew; and her parents, Thomas
Houston and Mamie Blanch

Georgette is survived by
her children, Janis Dew

David, and Roderick Dew and
his wife, Anita; grandchildren,
Amie Nichole Bondurant Huff
and her husband, James, and
Emilie Gail Bondurant and
Roderick "Ricky" Dew; brotherin-law, David H. Dew and his
wife, Jean; nieces, Robin
Fescina and husband, Michael,
and Cathy Semones and her
husband, Michael; nephews

officiating. Interment will be
held at Blue Ridge Memorial

Well Tootsie, today makes
one year in Heaven for you. Our

Hazel Gibson Crowder, 90, of Botetourt, went to be with her
Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2014. She was born on July 5,
1924, a daughter of the late Otis and Vergie Gibson. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl
L. Crowder Sr.; brothers, Otha Gibson, Leonard Gibson and
Lester Gibson; and sisters, Hattie Lucas, Rachael Wellons, Stella
Thomas and Juanita Moore.
Surviving are her sons, Earl L. "Corky" Crowder Jr. (Linda)
and Michael R. Crowder and former wife, Barbara;
grandchildren, Meagan, Melissa, Jeffery, Darin, Greg, Karen,
Larry Lee and Wendi; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sistersin-law; one brother-in-law; special niece, Kay Mills; and
numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Our Lady of the
Valley and Good Samaritan Hospice for all the care and support.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on
Monday, August 18, 2014, at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville,
with Pastor Brian Lawrence and Jeff Crowder officiating. The
family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Rader Funeral Home, 630
Roanoke Road, Daleville.
Burial to follow at Troutville
Cemetery.

Bobby G.
Bobby G. Bower, 77, of Salem, passed away Friday, August
15, 2014, with his loving caregiver by his side. He was retired
from Salem Tools after many years. Bobby loved his
homeplace, and was the kindest, most gentle person.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Theresa
Bower; and brothers, Jerry and Don Bower.
His surviving family includes his wife of 44 years, Helen
Bower; daughters, Cindy Sarver and Terri George;
grandchildren, Kelley Sweet and husband, Shawn, and Colton
George; great-grandchild, Parker Sweet; brothers, Max Bower
and wife, Sue, and Gene Bower; and serveral nieces,nephews
and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karri and Dr. Rogers of
Lewis-Gale Medical Center as well as the staff at Heartland
Rehabilitation for their loving care and support.
A period of visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014,
from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in
Salem. A Celebration of Life service will then begin noon.
Inurnment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
Chaplain Dave Vanderpool will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bobby’s
name to either the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric
Road, Roanoke, VA 24018; or to the Salem Animal Shelter, 1301

Leda Reid Wingfield, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday,
August 15, 2014. She was born in Botetourt County on August
18, 1919, to James Emmett Owen Reid and Roberta Henderson
Reid. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Leda graduated from National Business College and for over
30 years was the secretary/bookkeeper of Waldron Realty
Company. She was a long time member of Riverdale Baptist
Church, having served as church treasurer and worked with the
youth and Girl Scouts.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathryn
St.Clair of Sanford, N.C., and Pamela Vaughan (Kenneth) of Blue
Ridge, Va.; grandchildren, Amy St.Clair of Winterville, N.C.,
Aaron Vaughan (Anne) of Floyd, Va., Jennifer Haddock (Trey) of
Greenville, N.C., and Sarah Vaughan of Roanoke, Va.; greatgrandchildren Autumn and Gabriel Vaughan of Floyd, Va., and
Joyner and Reid Haddock of Greenville, N.C.; special niece,
Martha Gray of Buchanan, Va.; and many other nieces and
nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August
18, 2014, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with the Rev. David Jones
officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 17, 2014,
from 3 to 6 p.m. at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Ethella Dimples Dickenson,
93, of Roanoke, passed away
August 15, 2014. She was born
in Indiana April 13, 1921, to
Delmar P. Craft and Blanche
Addington Craft and soon
after moved to Wise. She
married Howard G. Dickenson
in 1940 and moved to
Baltimore, Md., before moving
to Roanoke in 1946. Dimples
worked at Heironimus for
more than 40 years and was
an active member of the
Greene
Memorial
United
Methodist Church since 1959.
She is survived by one
daughter,
Anne
Smith
(husband, Mike), of Roanoke;
two
grandchildren,
Kelly
Shager (husband, Paul), of
Lynchburg, and Scott Smith
(wife, Cindy), of Moneta; two
great-grandchildren, Michael
Smith and Anne Marie Smith;
one sister, Nancy Craft, of
Bristol, Va.; and one sister-inlaw,
Lois
Bekkerus,
of
California.
Dimples was preceded in
death by her parents, her
husband, and two brothers,
Delmar P. Craft Jr. and Cicero
P. Craft.
Visitation will be held at
Oakey’s South Chapel Monday
August 18, from noon to 2
p.m. followed by the funeral
service at 2 p.m. Interment
will be the following day in
Castlewood.
The family would like to
thank Dr. Gene Godwin and Dr.
Joseph Austin for their many
years of care and friendship.
