Children’s Ministries
December Faith Journey Shakes It Up! We’re doing something “different” for the month of
December! Instead of our usual class rotations, we’ll do three large group activities, beginning
with Happy Birthday, Jesus! on the 6th. Children in first through fifth grade will spend their
Sunday School hour in the Great Hall each week. Sure, we’ll have lots of fun...but we’ll also be
sending a very deliberate message that this time of waiting is incredibly special! We’re not
recruiting teachers, but we welcome any adult volunteer who can assist with our activities on
December 6, 13 & 20. Please let Catherine Anne know if you can help!
Casting has now begun for the 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Family service. If you or anyone in
your family would like to play a role in this special service, please email Catherine Anne
([email protected]) ASAP.
We are delighted you are worshipping with us! As a guest, you are invited to:
1. During the Words of Welcome, please print the requested information on the
Friendship Pad and pass the Friendship Pad down the pew.

Seasons of the Spirit~Room 235: We take to heart the hope and challenge of John’s

discussion on a range of topics related to living in today’s world.

Feather a Child’s Nest ~ P.W. asks you to please consider supporting our “adopted” child,
Ally Dombrowski & other Thornwell children by making a donation at one of the posters in the
main lobby, Narthex or Sheppard Hall, or you can place your donation in the Sunday morning
offering. The children can turn the “turkeys” they get in Sunday School into the collection box

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of
the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended
into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from
thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints;

Service Notes
The word “advent” means the coming of promise. The season of Advent, a period of four
Sundays, mark the beginning of the Christian year. Traditionally the church has used the
season of Advent to anticipate Christ’s return. It is about looking forward to the ultimate
fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to liberate us and usher in a brand new heaven and earth.
Seasons of waiting and preparation are built into the church calendar to help us realize the
truth that much of the Christian life is about living in the tension of anticipation: Christ has
come, but we wait for Him to come again; we have been redeemed, but we long for
complete redemption; we live between what has already happened in the life, death,
resurrection and ascension of Jesus and what will happen when He returns. As a church
family and individually, during this Advent season, let us focus our hope to enable us to
live confidently – even though we live in the midst of this tension. Let us wait for birth.
Let us wait for new life. And this year, as we wait, let us anticipate the new things that
God will be birthing in us and through us in the lives of others.
