A tradition since 1913 in Lincoln, E-Week is dedicated to recognizing and rewarding engineers’ accomplishments.
Our keynote speaker this year is Curtis Tomasevicz, USA Bobsled Olympic Medal Winner and Electrical Engineering alumnus. His
speech will take place on Friday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. in Othmer 106.

Why the Arts Matter

afternoons to meet and take photos with children. Throughout the festival, visitors can participate in a variety of

Cyber++ Competition
8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Bellevue University
A cyber defense competition designed to test your science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills. Open
to all high school and community college students. Teams of two to four students along with a mentor/coach will
match wits to fix vulnerabilities and toughen system security. Form your team for this free event today at

University of Nebraska at Omaha

Experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will conduct hands-on workshops for families.
Topics range from math magic to geology. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there also will be free, multiple hands-on

9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Interact with astronomers, engineers and physicists to learn about planets, optics, telescopes, space travel,
nanotechnology and more. Hear from special guest Clayton C. Anderson, Nebraska’s own astronaut. Attendees
will have a chance to win great prizes including a telescope. Mueller Planetarium will present fulldome shows at 11
a.m., noon, 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Regular museum admission.
eCreamery Ice Cream & Gelato
10 – 11 a.m. | Max: 20 kids | Free
Store manager Raymond Calkins will present the Science of Ice Cream and Dry Ice. Students will be given a small
tour of the facility, a lesson on how ice cream is made, a brief history of ice cream, and the differences in density
and composition between gelato, sorbet and ice cream. Event is full.
Hyperbaric Medicine Center at The Nebraska Medical Center
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Free with ticket
Stop by the only facility in the region able to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy to critical care patients 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. Tours of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center last a half hour and are offered every half hour.
Lincoln Children’s Museum
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Free for members of Lincoln Children’s Museum; First 50 children who are not members of the Museum will
receive one FREE youth admission with each paid adult admission. Join us for Science Saturday as we team up
with University of Nebraska-Lincoln engineering and science students to conduct experiments and engineering
feats.
Lincoln Children’s Zoo

Hands-on learning stations– focused on animals, nature and science -- will be available throughout the zoo from 10
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will last from 10 to 20 minutes per station. Visit as many as you’d like.
Saturday & Sunday: Regular admission does apply (no additional cost for the activities). Lincoln Children’s Zoo
members are free; Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium members receive a 50 percent discount on admission.
Metropolitan Community College

Fort Omaha Campus: MCC’s Horticulture, Land Systems and Management will have guided tours and hands-on
activities through the working greenhouse, gardens and farmyard. Learn more about plants and how they work, see
the different methods in which plants are grown both inside and outside, and learn about aquaponics systems: how
they work and how they are beneficial to humans, fish and plants.
South Omaha Campus: Learn more about trauma emergencies/ immobilization and cardiac emergencies. The Fire
Science Technology Program will have an aerial truck on display, as well as extrication equipment. See how the
“Jaws of Life” are used and ask questions about fire and life safety. A variety of activities related to chemistry,
biology and physics also will be on hand for all ages.
The Heartland Organization of Rocketry (T.H.O.R.)

Join us for Fire On The Farm -- our first large rocket launch this year. This multi-day free event, with commercial
motors on April 26 and research launches on April 27, takes place on private land 2.5 miles east of Jansen.

As part of the 60 Days of Science exhibit, visitors will learn more about biology, chemistry and physics through
experiments, observations and physical tests. You might blow a hole through a pop can using just atmospheric
pressure, make invisible ink or a magnetogram, float on air on a hovercraft and see a demonstration of burning
elements (fireworks) with diffraction lens glasses.

City Sprouts Community Garden

Tour the Community Garden, the Urban Farm, orchards and learn about trees. Visit the chickens and the hoop

The French Bulldog

In “The Science of Bacon,” Bryce Coulton, head chef at The French Bulldog, will discuss the science involved in curing pork belly, which leads
to bacon, pancetta and tesa. Participants also will learn about the techniques required to ensure meat is cured properly, tastes good and is
safe to eat. This special event costs $10 per person and includes a sample of whiskey bacon and a free beer or house wine. Event is full.
